  • Time to carry on the repair of my #salvage #audi #tt mk2 8j.
    I bought this car from auction after it had been stolen, crashed and set on fire and took it upon myself to restore this to a better condition than before the previous events and add my own twists along the way.

    I’ve just finished restoring an Astra Van, have changed it to use a VXR chassis and had the same. I got distracted when putting the rear shock on and left a bolt slightly loose, couldn’t tell by feel or eye, and it knocked a lot. Lesson learnt, tightened up and all fixed. Not saying yours is that simple, but worth a check.

    Would you consider doing a Transit custom build in the future Chris? Nobody had done a salvage repair. You could do the full MRST bodykit wide arch conversion and facelift it at the same time. You can use it for collecting body parts for future builds too 👌

    Use window cleaner and micro fibre cloth, it's a coating which turns like that in time and if you rub off all the anti glare coat it's actually better.

    You’re dead right about buying g a ‘CAT’ car Chris. Even lightly damaged cars are often written off just because parts are on back order and the insurance don’t want to fork out for a like-for-like hire car for months. It’s cheaper for the insurance to write it off and recoup a lot of the money selling through Copart than it is to pay for the hire car. Likewise seriously damaged cars are often repaired (particularly if it’s the other party at fault) and no future buyer is aware of it. A few years back we had a Land Rover T-Bone our Z4, really badly damaged, seen much less damage on Copart cars, I was sure it’d be a write off, but it wasn’t us at fault and the other party insurance repaired it.

    • @Chris_Slix
      @Chris_Slix  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its unavoidable in my garage as it such a small space with hard surfaces. I may look into sound insulation as the channel progresses I'm sure you can imagine I loose money on every video and my garage's sole purpose at the moment is for my detailing work. Thank your watching and for your feedback though Carl!

    @nickcann ปีที่แล้ว

    I've watched quite a few of these videos now and can't help thinking it's very similar to your friend Matt's channel to the point where you're sort of doing the same cars he's already done. Maybe some original content would be good, like choosing cars that Matt hasn't done already, just my opinion. It just all feels a bit "samey" watching this so not so inclined to watch this as much as Matt's channels

    • @Chris_Slix
      @Chris_Slix  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem here is how many cars he has done! I agree i do want to try and keep the cars as different as possible but we do have very similar taste in cars and what is affordable 😅 I appreciate your feedback and it is something that is on my mind but at the same time i don’t want to start building a diesel fiesta if you see what i mean 🤣 hopefully the more the channel grows the more i can afford to go for cars which are more rare!
      Thanks for watching 😊

    • @nickcann
      @nickcann ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chris_Slix Thanks for the reply Chris, hats off to you, the cars are lovely, I think it would just be nice to maybe look at something different. There are heaps of crash damaged vehicles out there that must be worth looking at. I completely appreciate that Matt is your mate but you could definitely go for something different. Maybe start by making a list of the car's Matt has done so you know not to go there. I'm sure Matt will help out where he can and obviously, the growth he's had with his channel has obviously afforded him the wealth to take on the bigger projects. Perhaps you could take over that 635 CSi BMW that he started and seems to have disappeared into the ether, we haven't seen that since it went away somewhere, perhaps you could finish that for him if he has so much else on his plate, that would be great to see that car finished, a proper classic. I'm not suggesting any particular car to go for, just dare to be different which I believe might help you generate some more interest. Keep up the good work, I very much like what you did with the interior of the TT you're currently doing with the alcantara trim.

    • @Chris_Slix
      @Chris_Slix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nickcann he does have a plan for the 635i but that would be way too big a job for me to tackle with all the welding required! Unfortunately im not full time on this at the moment so i have to pick cars with a reasonable turn around rate as otherwise it would get very stagnant very quickly. Copart (or similar) does dictate the purchases we can make and its not always as simple as picking a car sometimes the car picks us! But I completely understand your point of view.
      But hey lets see what the future brings!
