All new cars have this my focus st had it but oh wait didn’t work cause was a manual heheheh. My 2020 wrangler now has it and my wife’s 2020 ecosport ugh. I know just press the button
So far I don't really mind it. It seems to do a good job of staying on when needed and cutting off when appropriate. Saves some fuel around town. No real complaints from me. Easy enough to flick off if going on a trail.
Einother View I live in Florida so had to go with the soft top. Two patches and up to folds 3/4 back in seconds. Fantastic for driving places and I can throw it back up really fast 😊
does it really save fuel around town? It's my understanding that engine needs a ton of fuel by being fired up..so every time it gets turned off and then turned on, it needs that boost to start up, which won't help saving the fuel at the end....plus, more wear and tear by shutting down and starting up all the time......
That's because you sound like a rational person. Have you noticed way too many Jeep owners here and on the forums are complete assholes? I've started avoiding the forums completely and usually don't read comments here because toxic Jeep owners kinda suck.
I've had my JL for a year now and my determination is that with the manual transmission, the ESS very seldom activates in my normal driving even without turning it off with the ESS disable button. With a manual transmission, you have to be stopped, the vehicle in neutral, and the clutch released before it will shutdown the engine. The only time I do that is if I know that a particular stop light is going to be long or if I'm sitting in a parking lot idling the car while waiting on my wife to come out of whatever store she's in. I have noticed though that the air-conditioner fan keeps blowing and the cool air lasts for awhile, but once air-conditioner core has cooled off, it will restart the engine if you still have it in neutral. Each time it has done this, I've also had the emergency brake set since I was waiting in the parking lot, but I don't know if that is a factor. After it restarts though, I have yet to have it shut back down even after the air-conditioner has cooled off the cabin. As such, I have not felt a need to disable it by way of the methods mentioned in this video. I can see how if you were unfortunate enough to have an automatic transmission though, this could be rather irritating.
Question... Do you lose any features by having the second hood switch disconnected or having the smart battery thing disconnected? What does the smart battery thing do anyway? And another question... Seems like starting the vehicle every couple minutes in heavy traffic would put a huge wear and tear on the starter and flywheel... Any thought on this? Third question, love your in depth videos, ever thought of joining the bleepinjeep team?
What’s up guys. How’s the comancheep project coming along? The second hood switch is only used for reference to the 1st one. Kinda like we do with the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor and the brake switch. There are Two separate circuits monitoring these sensors and if they don’t agree with each other then it goes into default. No you don’t loose any features. I have tested the theft alarm and the remote start and both work fine with #2 hood switch disconnected. On the (IBS) intelligent battery sensor it monitors the current the battery is using During a stop start event. So if it can’t measure it then it will turn the system off. It is a lot more wear and tear. Supposedly they upgraded certain components like the starter, flex plate and other things to hold up to excessive wear and tear. And last but not least. Thank you for the kind words, and yes I would love somehow to do a collaboration or something with you guys. I have never done anything like that. I just started this channel in January this year and I’m enjoying passing along this information and creating a community. Let me know what your thoughts are joining the bleepinjeep team! Thanks again👍🏻
My wife actually didn't know what was going on when we first bought the car and she thought it stalled.. she then repeatedly kept hitting the start engine button while the start stop was active and overrode the system and it has been off ever since!!!! Hahaha ... so you can override it without unplugging anything
Auto stop/start is annoying but pushing the button every time is a much better option, for me anyway....than seeing that warning light on all the time. Great channel, I'll be subscribing after I hit enter.
Well, I hated it when I got my new JL since my JK didn’t have it but after keep forgetting to push the disable button many times, I let my Jeep do his thing & it doesn’t bother anymore beside it’s good for our ecosystem. Those long stop lights you also save some gas! My advice is get use it...then it’s not biggie!
@@BrandonHaneline thanks since I did not remove it yet it was unclear if there was actually a connection point to check continuity. I had all types of issues with warning lights no start etc replaced my aux battery and main battery yesterday. Will now start but still have a battery warning light and auto start unavailable light then show down occurs in a couple of minutes. Thank you
Why is auto start stop annoying. I love it in mine. Running with it disabled I average 22 mpg combined, I get 25 mpg with it working. The modifications you are making can void your warranty. You can get into engineering mode and disable start stop by pressing and holding the Temp UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. In the engineering menu you can disable the software for start stop.
I fail to see how a hood sensor switch or intelligent battery plug "coming loose" would void your warranty. It seems to me these are the LEAST damaging things you could do to disable auto start stop.
People, there is so much easier of a way to disable start/stop. Just disable the seat belt chime. Doing so disables the start/stop. To do this1. Seat belt On 2. Foot OFF the break, put vehicle in Run3. Wait for warning light to go out4. Quickly unlock >relock > unlock > relock seatbelt5. Turn off vehicle. People say you should hear chime if it worked, I heard nothing. First time I tried it, it didn't work. Seatbelt off, the chime still happened, as did start/stop. Second time, it did work. I hate seatbelts, and not wearing it, no chime reminder. Also, no annoying shutting off when I come to a stop. This was on a forum for a 2015 Wrangler, but worked on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee.
I'm saying if you CHOOSE not to wear a seatbelt on your own accord ( I'm not suggesting anything) Then this is how to disable the annoying chime IF you have no seatbelt on. … and IF you disable the seatbelt chime as It worked for me, then the annoying Engine Start-Stop (ESS) is disabled at the same time. Meaning if you don't wear a seatbelt and hate that annoying chime, and you also hate the ESS, you can disable both in about 10 secs.
ESS is so dangerous! More than once my system has taken just a second too long to switch back on at a junction and I've had to bail in the middle of a turn. That's the reason I turned it off. Another time it left me stranded in the middle of a huge intersection at rush hour because the constant shut off/restart drained the car battery. It wouldn't be as bad on a manual since it only kicks in if you're in neutral but I'd probably still disable it.
I feel like the start/stop option will mess up my Jeep so that’s my only complaint if it’s true. So do you know if it would effect my Jeep in the long run?
when you say that you need to keep shutting the start/stop switch off (if you don't disable it), do you mean every time you start the Jeep you need to shut it off?
Brian Murphy Hi Brian, Thank for the question. Sorry for the confusion. I’ll try to clear it up. So You can disable the stop feature by pressing a on/off switch on the dash And it will stay off the entire time until the key is cycled off then back on. Then you would have to press the button again. It’s not that big of a deal. But most people forget until they come to a stop. By unplugging the #2 hood ajar switch or disconnecting the intelligent battery sensor. You would never have to press the button. Thanks again. Hope this clears it up. 🙂
yeah, that was what I thought you meant. I thought you could just keep it in 'off' position, and it would stay off unless you turned it on. That will the first thing I disable. Second the camera.
What happens if you pull the connector from the spot and plug it back in without the plunger depressed, do you still get a error? Or does it do anything?
Brandon, I un-hooked switch #2 this morning. Didnt try the remote start but when I went to take odd down the street it said my hood was open. I dont know if start/stop was disabled or not as i stopped and plugged the thing back in..
Yes but the grand Cherokee doesn’t have 2 hood sensors. Here is how you do it on the grand Cherokee. This is my very first video. On TH-cam. This is how I got started. th-cam.com/video/tBJ_J-o-drc/w-d-xo.html
Jeep Informant Well, Brandon I’m back with another question.... Since I unplugged the under the hood switch to kill the ESS system, I cant access my trip odometers or my fuel mileage info page.... anybody else having this issue? Another question and only because I have not been to where I could find out for myself, does ESS Work in 4 whl dr?
I’m not sure this applies to the jl but logically it should. On my raptor with stop start feature I temporarily removed the start stop switch and wired a jumper between the two factory wires. Basically completing the circuit and replicating me “pushing” the button every time except I don’t have to push anything. I just start the truck the start stop button lights up indicating it’s been “pushed” (no error messages of the system etc). I don’t have a jl (I still have a jk) or else I’d try this on that. Perhaps someone can try and report back. Thanks.
Thanks. I was wondering about that. Jeep ought to have a patch for that. I'm commercial vehicles they can go in enable/disable certain things and set limits. I wonder if it can be done for this issue.
I have a JL with a manual transmission and I have never noticed the engine stopping unless I stall it or unless I actively turn the engine off. Is this feature not available with the manual? I don't see how it could work.
This is literally the only thing I don't like about my JL. The single most annoying feature ever. I think I'll try the hood ajar sensor approach. I like having battery info. Thanks.
Jeep Informant yup. Every time I forget I'm like "noooooooo!!" when it cuts out. Makes me paranoid every time I approach a stop. "Did I turn it off???"
I love my new JL but want my opinion I dont see very much of a difference in fuel economy with this eco shit off feature.Just feel like now days manufacturers are trying to squeeze out every ounce of fuel they can get to save and the way oil burns also.To me that causes more issues and technical problems down the road.
Thank you for a great video. The JL 2 door Sport S we ordered for my wife should be coming any day now. I hate the "Start/Stop" already. We'll probably just push the button every time we start up. Don't want to take any chances with the warranty.
Does either one of the methods to disconnect start/stop have an advantage over the other one. I disconnected the switch on battery, but if it’s better I’ll disconnect the number two hood ajar switch instead. so glad your on here to educate us on this kind of stuff, thanks
Whats up Todd. Hmmmm I think I prefer the #2 hood ajar switch method over the battery intelligent sensor. Wrangler is the only vehicle with 2 hood ajar switches so other FCA vehicle will have to disconnect the BIS(battery intelligent sensor) Thanks for the kind words. 👍
Jeep Informant I thought I had asked you, but can’t find it anywhere, but is there a way you can post a video on how to or best way to connect a direct wire up for a radar detector? Going to taking a trip and don’t wanna see wire hanging down in front of the radio. Also to be a patron of your channel, how do you set it up if you wanna pay so much for each video? Thanks for your time, Todd
Hey Todd. You did ask me and I apologize for not getting around to it. So 2 questions. 1. Radar. You are wanting to power the radar detector up to make it look clean correct?? If so I’ll need to look. Tomorrow and fine the best spot. Please send me a message on Facebook so we can message back and forth with pictures and video. And we can knock this out tomorrow. Are you in the USA? Also where will the radar be mounted windshield or top of dash? 2. On the Patreon question, to be able to set up a amount per video you can’t go less than a dollar. And I personally thought that would be to much because I have been putting a lot of videos out lately since I stated doing recalls also. If you want I can set it up that way. If you would like. We can work it out what ever fits you best. If you are possible suggesting Patreon. I would be very blessed. Here is the link for the Facebook. facebook.com/New-car-owner-tutorials-tips-tricks-and-hacks-972194962934877/
By disconnecting that second switch under the hood what light up on the dash continuously or does it go away on the dash? I don't want that love that saying it on the dash continuously but even the Tazer by Z automotive you have to leave it plugged in all the time that's not good either
If you do the seat belt reminder hack, and don't wear your seatbelt the start stop won't engage. Or if you have a manual trans as long as you hold in the clutch it won't turn off.
I got mine 2018 Jeep wrangler unlimited sport 2 days ago, standard transmission. The stop/star light was off, but I do not know what I did and now the light is on. Looks like is disable which is fine for me but kind da bothers me that the light is on at all the time in the dashboard.
Here’s a question. My auto start/stop warning light came on by itself. When I turn off the Jeep the radio continues to play for a minute, After l’ve locked the door and walked away. How do I fix that? I like the auto feature. It saves gas.
JeepInformant I’m in Texas. It’s always over 90! I’ll need to look at the update. Do you know what version the standard radio is on? If not, I’ll look it up. For some reason. I think there was an update done within the last week.
Also the heat could be killing the battery. It’s been over 90’s here all summer. And I have been putting in batteries like crazy. I would take it to the dealer and see what code is in it.
JeepInformant I would be worried if it’s the battery. I work from home and keep my Jeep in the garage. I have the basic radio. No upgrade. 5 or 4 inch screen?
Auto stop/start fried my ecu and throttle control on my 2019 JLUR twice before I did research and figured it was that. Jeep couldnt figure out what was going on I had 300 miles on it the first time and 350 the second time. I got a tazerjl and defeated it through programming and no problems since and now have 5000 miles
With the hood plug #2 disconnected Does the message that says “auto start stop service unavailable” stay on the screen in the gauge cluster preventing you from using the gauge screen?
I knew about the 2nd hood switch, but not about the battery current plug. I have a 2020 Jeep Gladiator and twice now the stop/start has malfunctioned. This hood switch is coming off! Thanks!!!!
I have a 2009 jeep wrangler x wont crank or start turn key does nothing. Never happened before replaced ignition switch, checked actuator pin, battery, fuses no go. First time it did this when we moved the jeep to change driveway position. Put it back ,next day no crank or start. Then noticed the shifter was really loose found plastic bearing had broken replaced and had to move shift cable to put new bearing in place. Shifts, check engine light and security lights turn on with key as well as other gauges. Wont connect to OBD reader and intermittently radiator fan turns on without the jeep getting hot. Checked starter, solenoid and alternator too. I am ignorant as to what to do next. Can you suggest what to do next? Someone posted about a starter safety neutral switch but it wont start in park or nuetral.its an automatic trans with 4or. PLEASE HELP!
Fast forward to now: you can buy a Start/Stop Eliminator from the company out of W. Virginia. It costs about $100; throws no codes; and takes about 10 minutes to install--plug and play.
While waiting on my JL as it slowly makes its way towards here via rail, I started reading a downloaded copy of the JL's manual. I stumbled across something that I'm curious about... On page 25, it states: "Never remove the mechanical key while the vehicle is moving, as the steering wheel will automatically lock as soon as the key is turned. This also applies to vehicles that are being towed." I was under the impression that it was not possible to get this vehicle with a mechanical key that you can turn in an ignition switch (in the steering column or elsewhere). Is the manual in error or is there some sort of hidden handshake that I need to know about to make this key switch visible?
Yes you can disconnect the battery but make sure you disconnect both batteries. Service Stop Start System after repair, Battery Light, Blown Fuse Jeep JL Wranglerth-cam.com/video/ZhDZOwovl8c/w-d-xo.html
I had the auto start stop on stopped at a stop sign for a second and when I took off the car revved up high but wasn’t shifting to the next gear so I had to pull over turn feature off put it in park then back in drive. I’m Not sure why the car did this but it could be dangerous somewhere in a traffic situation.
So on mine the sensors are reversed. The one on the passenger side is the correct one to disconnect. The one on the driver side disabled remote start. I have the Rubicon, so maybe that's the diff. Or it might be random based on the person who connects them in the first place. At least it is easy to test and switch! Thanks again for the tip.
Or you could just get used to it... I have brake pressure down to a science on my Highlander. If I don't want stop start to activate I just apply slightly lighter pressure. When I'm chilling at a red light I know will be more than 30-40 seconds I want the engine off. If I know it will be more of a rolling stop I keep it on. Some people just can't deal with change no matter how minor...
just ordered a Sahara was told between 4-8 weeks for delivery. I wanted to get a Manual. unfortunately the manuals only come with the 2.0 4cylinder engine
Nice what color did you go with? I’m curious, who told you you could only get manual in a 2.0L?? That’s not true! You can only get 6 speed manualit in the 3.6. 2.0L is automatic only along with the diesel. I hope it wasn’t a salesman trying to trick you in to buying.....
granite crystal. we all looked together as we built the car together from the plant's form. only the 2.0 was registering for the 6 speed manual we tried selecting V6 it would remove the manual. Also the JT is starting to be available for order so we think they're switching engine options now
yes, i'm from Chicago. the dealer gave me a vin # and on the decoder It does state it will be a V6..lol guess ill really find out when it actually arrives not to worried about it i just want a manual. im currently in the Build status
I did this today to my 2021 JLU. 2.0 turbo. I disconnected the wiring harness. Left the switch. I put electrical tape over light so I don't have to look at it.
I just got my JL Unlimited Sahara, it took 3 months to get but I'm in LOVE!!! Well, except for this feature.... LOL! This is off subject but wondered if you could do a video on installing the soft top. I ordered the "Dual Top", comes with Hard Top and then the Soft Top is in a huge box that takes up the entire back of the Jeep. Would love to see exact way to install on the JL. Thanks
What going on!! What color did you get? Currently I’m about 2 weeks backlogged on request. But if I get a customer wanting Softop installed I’ll record it. It did look a lot different when I was analyzing it in a previous video th-cam.com/video/QaCbako96CU/w-d-xo.html. Hopefully someone will have me install one soon. Congratulations on the new ride!! 😎
Thank you!! I came from a Charcoal Grey JK to a White JL. Loving the JL so much!!! I've had white wranglers in the past and I guess white is just my favorite. ;)
I'll admit I didn't watch all of the video, just FF'd to what you did. For those with the tow package, some comments on the JL forums are saying it's like a Ford where it will turn off when you're towing. If so, you can disable it by using a cheap 3rd brake light receiver plug in. It doesn't bother me so I haven't tested it with ours yet.
Man this stuff makes me nervous. So again, in your opinion Brandon, Trailer hitch light plug, battery plug, or hood switch. Which is the safest disconnect and most simple faultless way of disconnection the Start Stop. I just hate it!!. I don't want to push that damn start stop button every time I get in the JL. What is the best of the 3. GREAT GREAT helpful videos. I know Ive asked this in other questions, but when my JL comes in I just want to do it and not worry about it. Thank you so much again.
I bought mine a week ago, auto park feature disabled by it self.... how do i reset it to normal.. i know it’s annoying but the orange light on the dash it more annoying
If the Yellow auto stop start light is on. And You didn’t dis one to anything. Then there is a malfunction in the system. If you disconnected something reconnected and the light should go off.
Hi Brandon. ( is this your correct first name spelling?), I know I've asked this before, so forgive me for sounding like a parrot, but which feature do you believe will be the safest feature, IE the one with no other effects or faults on any of the other Jeep features or code faults: the battery smart sensor wire, or hood switch?. I assume those are the easiest and simplest ways to disconnect that start stop awful feature, but are they completely free of any other possible problems for the rest of the vehicle?. Thanks again.
AWESOME. Thank you very very much. I had that start stop on my Range Rover Evoque- perhaps the worst vehicle I ever owned. Actually it was the worst vehicle I ever owned. Actually I leased it because it was a crazy 299 a month lease , to get people into the brand that otherwise couldn't afford it. I loved driving it but it was a horrendous vehicle. Always at the dealership. Pushing that start stop button every time I was in that thing made me crazy. I'm glad I don't have to live with it on the Jeep JL.
I found that with mine it seems to also be brake pedal sensitive as well. it seems if I mash the brake pedal down it will kill it. If I am light footed on it it seems to not recognize I am at a full stop (even though I am) and it doesn't activate the ESS. Also, my salesman told me that the 2 parts under the hood also are for the alarm system. Is that true?
That is great to hear that you can control it with brake pedal pressure. Im sure with a little time the primary driver could control it never to come on. Thats awesome. For the 2 switches under the hood. The #1 hood ajar switch is for the theft alarm. and if it is disconnected the Remote wont work and the the alarm wont work. But with #2 Hood ajar switch unplugged the remote start still works and the alarm will still go off. if the alarm is set and someone breaks in. You can unplug the #2 switch and be ok. Thanks for the great question.
The smart battery disconnect tells me the battery is being taxed more. This can be a concern because it will tax your battery mode and reduce its life. looks like I need to have dual batteries.
Could you imagine if the Willys flat fender had stop start technology. Yeah, it would never have been made into production. Jeeps are no longer the utility/ all terrain tractor that could take a licking and keep on ticking. Now if you break down on the trail, instead of pulling out your craftsman wrenches you’ll be pulling out a laptop or programmer. I will never understand why companies think they have to try to make something better when it was perfect just the way it was. They are trying to turn the Jeep into a luxury vehicle. If you want to make luxury vehicle, then make a luxury vehicle. Don’t try to turn a tractor into a luxury vehicle. We don’t need a sensors for everything, touchscreens, cameras, remote starts, push starts, stop start, auto locks, electric transfer case control settings, automatic breaking systems, down hill descent control, nor any other so called idiot proof technology that was meant to take the work out of driving. If you don’t have the mental capacity to drive or work on a car then you don’t have any business owning one. What will they come up with next, a self changing spare tire because the majority of the millennials don’t know how.
sho942000 I’m all for capitalism and innovation, but Jeep didn’t just change what a Jeep is. They changed their target demographic too. Yes, the Jeep is one of the best selling vehicles today but today’s Jeeps aren’t made for the avid off-roader. They are designed to appeal to the urban weakened warriors who likely will never commit to serious off-roading, and who rather just use their Jeep to haul their kayaks, take a weekend camping trip, or just own one to pursue some social status. However, this kills the Jeeps bread and butter. After the 2nd world war the Jeep rose to popularity in the farming and off-road community. It was their sales that helped Jeep survive to what it is today, but as soon as Jeep got a leg to stand on it turned its back on those who carried it all those years before. Now it has lost its simple reliability and is nothing more then a glorified show vehicle for those with deep pockets.
I'm all for simplicity as well...but...with the masses, come regulations. I think it all has to do with population, numbers, and environment ie. more people equals more sold equals more pollution. As CJs, TJs, and YJs became more popular, JEEP sold more of them. The platform then became more mainstream and newcomers to the platform started to outnumber the purists who understood the original purpose of the vehicle and when, where, how they were used. The newcomers began complaining and suggesting what JEEP could do to make it better for the quasi-assimilated newcomers to the platform...and the purist just grumbled to themselves and went on wheelin' and modded their Jeeps even more to suit themselves and laughed at the wannabes. It's not a big secret that most Jeeps dont get modded save for the wheels and tires. So...what did JEEP do? Theyre not in it to lose money, so they catered to the numbers and by some default the loudest voices. Newbies wanted it more roomy, more "convenient", more stylish...and they got it all. And JEEP sold more Jeeps. And when you sell more Jeeps, you impact the environment more. So you gotta bow to the Govt and EPA and make your product more efficient and cleaner running or you dont get to play. And that takes computers and eelectronics. Which made the Jeep more expensive to build, diagnose, and fix when needed. And if JEEP hadn't added two more doors to the the Wrangler platform, it probably wouldn't be the best seller that it is now or since...and JEEP could have killed it off as no longer a viable product for them or maybe even sold it off to another conglomerate to have them deal with it...and sometimes with that comes the death of an icon. Good thing JEEP still offers the platform in a two and four-door configuration, but the complexity of the electronics are here to stay. Good thing there are still Flatties, CJs, TJs, and YJs out there to mod and that the aftermarket still cares about them. The options for purist are still out there👍🇺🇸
That's why I keep holding on to my TJ bought it new and outfitted the way I wanted. I get the ",I wanna buy a new Jeep itch " when the new models come out but I would be spending $60,000 + to replicate mine and I would have all the new "technology's" to fail on the trail. Jeep is pandering to the masses with there Jeeps in my opinion.
It's not as big of an annoyance as I had anticipated. The restart happens on brake depress, before even engaging the accelerator. Then for stop and go touch traffic, you can turn it off completely with the button. Not really as big of a deal as I originally made it out to be.
Guys, thank you for all of the great comments and questions. If there is subject that you would like for me to cover in more detail let me know. Leave me a comment below.
Hi , Just subscribed. I'm on the verge of buying the 2l turbo since I'm in hilly Colorado and the low end torque should do wonders out here. One thing that I would like to know is the 2l stop start as annoying as on the 3.6 since it has the mil hybrid system that on paper would make it sound like it should be better since the engine has more time to kick in and the generator should help get it moving faster.
Sadly even if you have the manual this is still a pain you have to deal with. Any risk unplugging that second hood switch long term? Also Jeeps system is way too aggressive. Toyota does a good job of dialing it back.
Hey, thank you so much for this video. I have been looking at the JL very closely and even checked one out at my local dealer. Compared to my trusty JK, all that I see are convenience upgrades and more electrical stuff to go wrong. My main issues have been with the push button start and the stop/start. Most others have said to easily work around stop/start to use a 3rd brake light receiver plug in. But your techniques are easy to do and work. However, does the error message stay on all of the time once you use either one of your solutions? Also, without two keys, does the JL come with two of the remotes? Thumbs up and new subscriber so that I can learn more about the JL from you.
Wow. Thanks so much! Its people like you, That is why post these videos. ok, So on your remote question Every new Jeep comes with 2 new Keys. Im Not sure if Keyless go is a standard option. I'll have to look. If its not im not sure what kinda key it has. Ill find out and let you know. Thanks for the great questions. Keep them coming. It gives me ideas
Hey Brandon, Thanks for all you do to inform & educate us on our Jeeps. I haven't seen any comments regarding this, so thought I'd ask your opinion. Regarding the EcoDiesel model specifically, and I suppose the turbocharged gasoline engines, has FCA thought about the damaging effects to the turbo by the use of ESS shutting the engine off without any turbo cool-down time? I realize the turbo on the diesel is water-cooled, but Jeep still has cool down times in the supplemental manual. Seems to me that this is a grave oversight that is going to cost folks in the long run if they don't defeat the ESS. I know that synthetics are more immune to heat stress & oxidative effects than conventional oils, but still this would seem to be extremely detrimental to the turbocharger. Whats your take on this?
Dude! I didn’t even think about have a louder Exhaust. It’s bad enough with the stock exhaust. Glad I could help, what color did you get? I’m assuming red from your picture.
What is the issue with the Start and Stop feature. Just push the button. I like the Start and Stop feature I have it on other vehicles. Simple just push the button
Whoever came up with the start/stop feature needs to be slapped. Just like the MDS system on my Ram 5.7 Hemi. annoying!! I know it's for fuel economy, but I didn't buy a full size truck with a HEMI for friggin FUEL ECONOMY!!!!! Geez this stuff pisses me off!!
They trying to make the vehicle go hybrid at red lights...lol...just bought a brand new jeep and I was getting worried when my wife said it cuts off at the stop light...
Brandon, can you please do videos on the following subjects related to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL: 1) Replacing the the poor quality bulbs in the Dome Headlights located in the Sound Bar and in the rear roll bar with LED 2) My Wrangler's Key Fob currently has the ability to unlock and start the car by single & double clicking. My JL did not come with the proximity sensor in the door handle. Is there a way to trick or enhance the key fob I have by adding a proximity sensor into it in order to unlock the door when you're with 5 - 10 feet of it (I have a key fob and an app that can lock, unlock, start the jeep, beep the horn etc. There must be a work-around can you please figure it out. PLEASE O)IIIIIII(O
People are so lazy. Just push the button like you did to start it or to turn on the defrost/hvac controls. Europeans have been using this system for years and don’t care. Saves gas and the environment.
Maybe people want their machines to work the way they want them to work, and they don't want to be inconvenienced by automakers who decided to kiss up to insufferable environmental zealots.
@@clayfree7428 I was using a Jeep with this feature and another problem with it is that the AC compressor kicks off, so at a light the heat gradually increases (especially because people trend to have the windows up with the AC on) so one the coils warm the computer automatically turns the engine back on which minimizes the supposed benefits of this feature. Plus another problem is that when the traffic resumes there's a delay before you can move. The delay is brief; but it's a delay. People already sit at green lights longer than they should and this will compound the problem especially when numerous vehicles with this feature are lined up. I also can't wait for the day the vehicles won't start back up.
Just maybe they work the way they do, is to conform with GOVERNMENT. Isn't all this crap thrown on for fleet averages? If the thing doesn't default to "on", maybe Uncle Sam wags a finger..
Why do people hate saving money so much? ESS is one of the greatest ideas they've come up with, unlike some of the other kooky and silly crap they've done.
Whaaaaaaa.... I don't have time to push a single button. lol. I don't find it that big of a deal. If you don't press the brake pedal most of the way down--it doesn't turn off.
LOL, thanks for making me laugh. When you say it that way is sounds lazy. I think I’m more trying to describe as it’s aggravating to push the button every time. And yes I am hearing more owners talking about the pressure on the brake pedal. If you’re the primary driver of the vehicle then it would be very easy to pick up on the pressure needed not to activate it. But some people don’t mind. It’s there for reason. But a lot of others don’t. Thanks
The thing that gets on my nerves about it is that when I come to a stop and catch it at just the right moment. It will cut off when I am starting to let off the brake and it cuts off then immediately starts right back and kinda gives a delay on take off. Let me know in a couple weeks what you think. 👍🏻
I just got my Rubicon last night and the was the first thing i noticed while driving it home was this auto stop/start feature. To be honest it is too early to cast my vote one way or the other.
No problem man. Some people get used to it and it doesn’t bother them because they are saving fuel. Others don’t. Just curious did you know it had it before you bought it? Most salesmen and not disclosing that it has stop start because it kinda has a bad wrap. And they might lose the sale.
Hate to tell yeah this but the start stop feature was required by those wonderful jokers in Washington EPA and others.....who also required the back up camera starting this year on all models. It's really not a big deal. Unless your the type that likes to pull wires that could mess other stuff up. FYI my neighbor pulled his of his ford Escape and removed a ground the short it caused cost him $5000 think hard before you do this.
Yes you are correct our wonderful government did implement this feature along with the backup camera. Although they did leave a loop hole for a reason. So when they purchase a Jeep they can disable it themselves. Maybe on Ford’s it may do damage I don’t know. But with 20 years of Chrysler experience, disconnecting the auxiliary hood switch will not damage or void any warranty. It would be the same result as if the switch was or sensor was bad. My guess is over half of 2018 Jeep Wrangler owner will research how to disable this feature because their sales man didn’t tell this about it.
I think with my neighbors the ford escapes was just a fluke I hope. I'll tell you if I can figure out how to kill it on the 2.0 pulled the trigger yesterday on my order. After my dealership salesman called and said I could.
Nice, glad to hear they are back online to order. When I get my hands on a 2.0l I will definitely trying to figure it out. How long did they say it would be on your order?
there not on the regular web site yet. I just have bought 3 jeeps from the same dealership over the years and went to look at the JL and asked the right questions. Dealers can take your order now....there is still a waiting period.
Hi Robert. The 3.6L is using the same system that we’ve been using since 2014 in the Jeep grand Cherokee and Cherokee. The 48 V system. Also known as the mild hybrid Will be on the 2.0 L gas on the new wrangler and also on the 2019 ram 1500. Here is a link with more information On the mild hybrid 48v system th-cam.com/video/VhH0NEyHC5Q/w-d-xo.html
Those who scream bloody murder over the auto start/stop feature are the same ones that swore Jeeps stopped being Jeeps when they went to coil springs. Get over it.
Who's got time ...? To push A BUTTON ... ? When you're ALREADY in the vehicle and have literally NOTHING else to do? How fucking lazy are you? I tun mine off if it gets to be too much (busy street with lots of lights) or if it's super hot out. Other than that I use it as intended.
In the entire video you assumed that all your viewers knew just what the "auto stop start" feature actually does. And you never once told the viewer what it does before it is disabled.

Glad to hear. Hope your enjoying the Jeep. If you put it in 4WD. Is disables it also. What top option did you get?
Einother View I live in Florida so had to go with the soft top. Two patches and up to folds 3/4 back in seconds. Fantastic for driving places and I can throw it back up really fast 😊
does it really save fuel around town? It's my understanding that engine needs a ton of fuel by being fired up..so every time it gets turned off and then turned on, it needs that boost to start up, which won't help saving the fuel at the end....plus, more wear and tear by shutting down and starting up all the time......
It would be nice to hear of someone doing a test with it disabled and enabled. And see the difference.
Interesting!!
Yes I personally think it’s a great feature.
How can the fuze array be tested to determine if that is the problem with the engine will stop soon issue
Remove the fuse array and test each side with a multi meter
I will have to look into that Gerard. I haven’t seen that in there.
@jeepinformant has this been confirmed? This would be an awesome way to disable it!
No changes can be made in engineering mode.
Seat belt On
So you are advising drivers not to wear their seatbelt.........? Or are you saying disabling the seatbelt chime disables SS?? Please respond.
I'm saying if you CHOOSE not to wear a seatbelt on your own accord ( I'm not suggesting anything)
Then this is how to disable the annoying chime IF you have no seatbelt on.
We have had this system since 2014. Haven’t replaced any starters yet.
Jeep Informant So it won’t mess up anything on my Jeep?
No it will be fine. It’s designed and tested for this. Personally I do not like stop/Start. It’s just annoying.
Jeep Informant Thanks for your help! So if I want to disable it with no problems how would I do that?
I show you 2 ways in the video. The easiest is to disconnect the #2 hood switch.
Will doing this keep the auxillary battery charged from the alternator or generator?
I'm still looking for this answer
when you say that you need to keep shutting the start/stop switch off (if you don't disable it), do you mean every time you start the Jeep you need to shut it off?
Awesome dude!! Thanks for watching.Glad I could help.😀
I’m some models they switched them. Plug that one back in and try the other one.
Jeep Informant Yes Sir, I did that and it did work... Now my Niece wants to know if it can be disabled on a 2018 Grand Cherokee w/v-6
Another question and only because I have not been to where I could find out for myself, does ESS
Work in 4 whl dr?
No it doesn’t work in 4wd. Also if you move the shift lever over to the left when your in drive it puts in in manual mode which also turn off the ESS
Thanks.
I'm going to have to get a diagram of the switch but I definitely want to try it.
Thanks.
Ambrose Little It can be annoying. I know it’s only a button but still I forget every time. Lol.
Jeep Informant yup. Every time I forget I'm like "noooooooo!!" when it cuts out. Makes me paranoid every time I approach a stop. "Did I turn it off???"
wonder if disconnecting hood ajar sensor 1 will work if the JL doesn't have remote star feature
Hello, how do I cycle the key to reset the dashboard? Thank you
Jk or JL?
I’m sorry. Just by pressing the ignition button to turn the Jeep of and then back on. Hope this helps.
Sorry JL
I saw the video you sent were on and figured it was the JL.
I love my new JL but want my opinion I dont see very much of a difference in fuel economy with this eco shit off feature.Just feel like now days manufacturers are trying to squeeze out every ounce of fuel they can get to save and the way oil burns also.To me that causes more issues and technical problems down the road.
Amen brother!!
Thank you for a great video. The JL 2 door Sport S we ordered for my wife should be coming any day now. I hate the "Start/Stop" already. We'll probably just push the button every time we start up. Don't want to take any chances with the warranty.
I Completely understand. Being a brand new Jeep. But if you do get frustrated with it you will know what to do.
Jeep Informant
I thought I had asked you, but can’t find it anywhere, but is there a way you can post a video on how to or best way to connect a direct wire up for a radar detector?
Do you know if these options will work on a 2017 Cherokee latitude?
Unplug the battery intelligent sensor on the negative side of the battery post this will diss able to stop start system.
Here’s a question. My auto start/stop warning light came on by itself. When I turn off the Jeep the radio continues to play for a minute, After l’ve locked the door and walked away. How do I fix that? I like the auto feature. It saves gas.
Hey Oscar!! On the S/S light. Do you live in warm climates? 90’s +?? Also on the radio. Possibly an update. Do you know what version your at.
JeepInformant I’m in Texas. It’s always over 90! I’ll need to look at the update. Do you know what version the standard radio is on? If not, I’ll look it up. For some reason. I think there was an update done within the last week.
Ok. What radio do you have 5 7 or 8.4
Also the heat could be killing the battery.
RcFamily It does display auto stop start service unavailable but you can still use the cluster it’s just a momentary message.
Whats the MPG decrease? Ive had a few rental cars with the feature, and same as in the JL, I didnt mind it at all in any of them.
On page 25, it states:
"Never remove the mechanical key while the vehicle
is moving, as the steering wheel will automatically
lock as soon as the key is turned. This also applies to
vehicles that are being towed."
I was under the impression that it was not possible to get this vehicle with a mechanical key that you can turn in an ignition switch (in the steering column or elsewhere). Is the manual in error or is there some sort of hidden handshake that I need to know about to make this key switch visible?
I would say typo
Nawh, a typo is a small error, this is a pretty blatant error. Does your manual say the same thing?
I’ll check.
Any update?
Yes sorry. They all are the same.
Would this work on a 2018 Pacifica?
gabbyhall yes sir just unplug the battery intelligent sensor. The Pacifica doesn’t have the 2 hood sensors.
gabbyhall hope that helps. I unplugged the Battery intelligent sensor on a loaner Pacifica I had for about a week. And it worked great.
We ended disabling the seat belt chimes and that does it too! Thanks for your reply. Now we know we have at least 2 options.
why doesn't this video play and do you have any idea about charging the 2nd battery
How can i just reset it... i had my door open to move the Jeep a little .. ever since it has the auto start light on.. how can i remove it
Yes you can disconnect the battery but make sure you disconnect both batteries. Service Stop Start System after repair, Battery Light, Blown Fuse Jeep JL Wranglerth-cam.com/video/ZhDZOwovl8c/w-d-xo.html
This will work on wrangler JK?
Yes I could see it being easy to get switch up from The factory. 👍🏻
Also the JT is starting to be available for order so we think they're switching engine options now
Sweet. You know more than I do!! Hopefully they are changing it!!
yes, i'm from Chicago. the dealer gave me a vin # and on the decoder It does state it will be a V6..lol guess ill really find out when it actually arrives not to worried about it i just want a manual. im currently in the Build status
I've had white wranglers in the past and I guess white is just my favorite. ;)
Yea the white does look good!!
Yes I think you can.
I was driving today and my start stop service system light went on out of nowhere I didn’t unplug anything it just went on. Is that normal?
No worries for me I got the Tazer JL Mini fixed that problem.
Oh yea. That’s a nice one. 😊
What color is your jeep? It almost looks greenish.
Granite crystal metallic. Lighting must make it look a little different.👍🏻
Will this fix work with the 2.0 engine?
Man this stuff makes me nervous. So again, in your opinion Brandon, Trailer hitch light plug, battery plug, or hood switch. Which is the safest disconnect and most simple faultless way of disconnection the Start Stop. I just hate it!!. I don't want to push that damn start stop button every time I get in the JL. What is the best of the 3. GREAT GREAT helpful videos. I know Ive asked this in other questions, but when my JL comes in I just want to do it and not worry about it. Thank you so much again.
this damages the starter?
For what reason did they disconnect the autostart?
I bought mine a week ago, auto park feature disabled by it self.... how do i reset it to normal.. i know it’s annoying but the orange light on the dash it more annoying
Do you mean the stop start feature
If the Yellow auto stop start light is on. And You didn’t dis one to anything. Then there is a malfunction in the system. If you disconnected something reconnected and the light should go off.
JeepInformant light is permanently still on.. should i Disconnect the battery and put it back on
Hood switch. Yes Brandon is correct.
That is good news. Thank you for the quick reply and all the info you are putting up. Comes in very handy!
Thanks you so much. I really appreciate the nice comments. Stay tuned im working on a JL vs JK changes for water leak future concerns.
You clearly don't have any interest in the company making a profit or selling a vehicle that people want to buy.
sho942000 I’m all for capitalism and innovation, but Jeep didn’t just change what a Jeep is.
The options for purist are still out there👍🇺🇸
That's why I keep holding on to my
TJ bought it new and outfitted the way I wanted.
If you knew the vehicle had this feature on it would you still buy the vehicle?
Guys, thank you for all of the great comments and questions. If there is subject that you would like for me to cover in more detail let me know. Leave me a comment below.
Thank you so much for posting this. I am considering buying a Wrangler but I wasn't sure what to do about the ESS.
Your welcome. Lots of people don’t like it.
Whats your take on this?
good video bro thx for the info
I have exhaust on mine so at every stop, you can hear my jeep start back up. I don’t like it! Thanks for figuring SOMETHING out!
Dude! I didn’t even think about have a louder Exhaust. It’s bad enough with the stock exhaust. Glad I could help, what color did you get? I’m assuming red from your picture.
Yeah I got red with tan leather.
Every car and truck has to have this feature it’s smog mandatory for new vehicles.
Edit: I hate it as well
Interesting..Thank you for the video..Have a blessed day..
😂😂😂, yea I know is supposed to help but Geez. Even my wife was in a rental Chrysler Pacifica and she was like who came up with this feature. 🙄
Dude I just saw your comment again about being slapped and couldn’t stop laughing 😆
Don't want to get too political, but strict government standards for fuel economy are forcing the manufacturers to do these things.
@@paulvicenzi5024 Thanks Obama!
Anyone that can't push the button each trip, keep them away from learning to fly.
Maybe people want their machines to work the way they want them to work, and they don't want to be inconvenienced by automakers who decided to kiss up to insufferable environmental zealots.
When that shit breaks, starter, battery etc..... you better have deep pockets. No thanks....I’ll pass!
I actually like yhe stop start feature
I'm going to try that in my jl lol Thanks 👍
Just buy a dummy trailer light plug, done. Ppl have been doing it on F150’s for awhile now.
Bizzobb Foshizzle unplug the hood switch. There is two switches that are side by side. It’s the one on the left.
Thanks
i found out if u dont hit the break to far it should not shut down,
My vote is undecided yet because idk how good it works . I can’t see it being that annoyed unless you have an exhaust
The thing that gets on my nerves about it is that when I come to a stop and catch it at just the right moment. It will cut off when I am starting to let off the brake and it cuts off then immediately starts right back and kinda gives a delay on take off. Let me know in a couple weeks what you think. 👍🏻
Will do
I'd like to defeat the remote start system - I never use that. (On the 2.0 turbo, that is.)
if you disable the seatbelt chime you will disable the auto/start system
Agreed
Yes have 2019 JL Wrangler it very Annoying stop and go.
It's on my audi too. Can't remove it.
Not once did they mention it to me. I started to panic to be honest until I realized the auto stop/start display.
Hope I helped. Enjoy the Jeep man its a great one!
My guess is over half of 2018 Jeep Wrangler owner will research how to disable this feature because their sales man didn’t tell this about it.
Just got a rubicon last night!!!! Love it! It’s a simple button.. relax guys
not true on the 2 litter i have one and it can be turned off
Thanks, man!
Just unplug the hood switch . It’s that fxxking simple. There is two switchs when you open the hood, side by side. It’s the one on the left.
I agree with that title !! 😡🤬
Ok cool. my general manager said the same thing.
Hate the start/stop … but Chrysler actually has a way better start/stop than many other brands. Subarus is absolutely terrible!!!!!
Well the start/stop feature uses a 48-volt lithium battery.
Most ridiculous feature ever. Wife’s Ford has that also.
God bless you!
In the entire video you assumed that all your viewers knew just what the "auto stop start" feature actually does. And you never once told the viewer what it does before it is disabled.
