If you have battery issues, like I did while on a recent camping vacation with my family (battery wouldn't accept a charge), good luck if you forget to turn off ESS after getting boosted. I was in a remote location and ended up waiting another 3 hours for roadside assistance.
I put one on my gladiator, works great,i agree ,when your paying these expensive new vehicles prices you shouldn't have to be dealing with something like that It should definitely have a memory switch!!! you should have an option Thanks for the video,Great job
Thanks to this video I had ordered this and it works on my 2019 JL Sport! They even have a link to this video on the instructions for the SmartStopStart. I would also think I stall everytime I stop on a light, and sometimes even makes me stall when I get thrown off with the engine turning back on again on its own... but no more worries with that ever again! Thanks again.
I totally agree this is something my JL Rubicon should have come from the factory with. I ordered immediately after watching your video, thank you for sharing this!
Actually it's more annoying that just the engine starting and stopping. When the Auto Start/Stop turns off the engine in the 2018 Grand Cherokee it also turns off the Air Conditioning and the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. So if you are cold (or hot) every time you restart after stopping you have to turn all these items back on again which is super inconvenient. Wish I had know about this sooner !
Disconnect the small 2 wire sensor on the negative clamp of the starter battery, No stop/start, NO smart charging and it`s free, works on Mercedes and Porsche, probably works on all makes of car, take 2 minutes and its reversible.
That’s great what about when you need to use the Taser JL or the superchips programmer to reset your tires and what not they also have to plug in a bypass module in those two wires you just plug that into.
Superchips I haven’t tested out yet, but if you have a tazer jl then you wouldn’t need to get this module bc the tazer jl has the ability to do the same thing and make the Ess retain its memory
Just pop the actuator (as you mentioned) that’s in the engine bay; much easier & zero cost. People that are worried about warranty or the dealership freaking out are overthinking matters, as it’s literally a single function actuator (i.e. literally ties to nothing else). There will be a small indicator on the dash; no big deal.
Here is the easy answer to why Jeep does not do this. Our Government enforces fuel efficiency standards! You are lucky to have the option to disable it with each start!
Yeah its pricey, but it's nice to not mess with factory warning lights & leaving things unhooked and possibly get damaged. Or have to explain to the dealer why it is and possibly have them do weird warranty stuff.
Like you, I seriously hate that auto stop start feature. Thankfully, Jeep at least gave us a button to turn it off.. I imagine it would be a deal breaker for me, it there was no way to at least temporarily turn off ESS. I saw your last video about removing the hood plunger, but didn’t want to do that for a variety of reasons, so I’ve just been living with this first world annoyance. I may look into getting this module, although it seems pretty expensive for what it is. Thanks for making the video to show it to us Ben.
I really hate ESS on my Jeep Wrangler 3.0L EcoDiesel. I fear that it is not good for the EcoDiesel's turbocharger to have ESS activate on a stoplight as soon as I exit the highway and abruptly stop at the stop lights on the exit ramp. That is not enough time for the turbo to cool down after a highway drive.
This is the type of You Tube video I like to see. It gives helpful advice, on a product that I will be sure to buy if I ever get a new vehicle with ESS.
i just bought a 2016 dodge durango that start/stop its ok but i see what people do not like it because turning it off all the time is not making any sense
I don't see why Jeep could not just have a option in the Uconnect settings to disable the feature for those who don't want it with the same concept of this module.
Because they wouldn’t be able to claim the increased fuel economy if it could’ve been defeated by the customer. It’s all to meet fuel economy standards

Ok, so I plan to get the new JLUR and I'm very aware of the ESS. I'm just curious why all the butt hurt over this feature? My research and a couple of test drives shows that it doesn't stop the engine during 4L driving so no engine stops while crawling. Outside of that what's the big deal? Maybe cause I don't own one now I can't understand but would someone share honestly why this is such a big deal? Or maybe I'm just reading into it to much? Thnx
It’s a hard feeling to get used to, and not one that has been very welcomed on a wrangler. Personally I don’t like the feeling of the engine shutting off, I feel like Ive stalled the Jeep and I can never get used to it. Besides that, the constant usage on the “beefed up” starter will eventually catch up with it. A lot of the dislike has to do with the fact that Jeep made this feature an option that Always turns on every time you turn the vehicle on, instead of it retaining your preference, or having a memory feature. It is quite annoying for those who do not want it on every time they drive, and have to remember to turn it off every single time they start their engine.
Ben Anton I hear you, and thanks for the prompt reply. Like I said, I don't own a vehicle that has the ESS system so maybe I can't empathize with those who dislike the condition. I will tell you this, I drive a 2012 Camaro SS and I guarantee you that you would take ESS over Chevy's implementation of the Automatic Fuel management (AFM) system that cuts off four cylinders of my V8 when off-throttle to save fuel. I paid for a V8 not a part-time 4-cylinder. And great vids by the way. I've been more of a lurker but just had to ask about this issue. Keep up the great work. BTW, think I'm gonna steal your hood vinyl idea for my JLUR when I get it. Gonna do the rear LED light strip install also! Making my list and can't wait!
I would hate that half engine bullsh*t hahah I agree with you! And thanks! I know a few people have reached out to see if I can make them a hood decal like mine and ship it to them, but since it was hand cut I couldn’t get measurements exactly right for the plotter software. Plus the red strip is a hand laid pinstripe and it’s hard to do the corners, so I didn’t want to send someone out pinstripe to do on their own! You’ll love the light though, I use it every single day haha
I have a 2019 cherokee, i disconnected the wire connector for the hood latch, it disabled the start stop and nothing else. I have driven 20,000 miles with no issues.
Do u have remote start? I unplugged the sensor by the battery and it disabled the remote start. And I can't have a dash light on, which was the case. I didn't touch the plungers. Too many sensors! I've become accustomed to the button as soon as I get in

By the time I saw this video the price was $149.00. I'll just remember to press the off button and put the money towards a needed mod.
It’s especially a problem for those with the idiotic 9-speed transmission of 2014-2016, because it aggravates the already rough and hit-or-miss shifting, which, unless you’re used to it, is dangerous. I’m stuck with it now, but I let NO ONE drive my car, too dangerous when they get the surprise shifting
Like I said if you don’t mind the warning light coming on, then that is the best option. For people that want to get rid of the warning light and still be able to use the button and let it retain its memory then the module is the best bet
I personally don’t mind the feature. I also have a manual and the engine restarts faster than I can press the clutch all the way down. And when I’m stuck in traffic or at a long light it’s a welcome gas saver.
Good to hear, I am getting a manual and was wondering how it would work on it, if it starts before the clutch is engaged then it shouldn't be a big deal

@@paulocampos6052 yes, with all that gas savings you should easily be able to afford one or two new starters and all the other crap that system wears out. Fuel economy is a giant scam. They have ways to get tons of better mileage than they are even close to getting today. The fuel companies are fighting against it and spend millions of dollars fighting fuel economy rates in new cars. They sabotage new inventions that get ridiculous amounts of fuel economy. They make it hard or impossible to get any REAL invention to market that gets extreme fuel mileage. They have the tech to get several if not hundreds of miles a gallon. Liquid gas doesn't burn it's the vapors that burn and one huge excuse they use is they can't pump a vapor or you can't regulate how fast a liquid evaporates or other such crap. We as consumers are up against huge money that doesn't want fuel economy because they don't get tons of money if cars can get 200 miles to the gallon and puts out 1/100th the emissions because the gas engine isn't pumping raw unburned fuel out the tail pipe. But hey, they came up with the catalytic converter right. O yes, now the consumer doesn't know how much raw fuel is being wasted because it's burned up in the catalytic converter and they can raise the price of cars quite a bit because of them. But at least we're not breathing it. That's only because the fuel companies were pushed into a corner. Yep, I'm griping, I've heard of tons of inventions get bought up by fuel companies only to never be heard of again. Hell, in a small car I once owned I was getting 42 mpg almost 40 years ago and they act like they struggle to get cars over 30 today. It's a scam.
Its been proven several times that ASS uses more fuel (starting a vehicle burns a lot of fuel). ASS is strictly for emissions reasons, does not help with fuel economy.
It is a little expensive for what it does I agree, I know they are running $20 off right now, but I do not have any codes sorry! Still cheaper than the tazer jl but that can do a lot more (also takes up your obd port!)
There’s a button in the car that turns it on and off as well. You just wasted 120 when you can just press the button only thing is. It turns back on. Every time you get back in the car but it’s just the press of a button
Its not just a pain. Its an extra income for the dealers because it will cause your starter and battery to fail early which will make more for them. It's an epa ploy

I hate it on my JL sport. No daytime running lights for safety, but an auto start/stop? Makes no sense. Had one on my F-150. If you used an illuminated hitch cover the truck thought it was towing and it would not work.
Did they only make this for Jeeps. I have a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer and I absolutely hate the Auto Stop/Start crap in my car. I need one of these things badly. I was hit in the head in the Army and now my memory is real bad.
$130 or just remove the hood pin you had before... Think I will stick with the hood pin. Or just spend a little more to get the Tazer Mini and get a lot more options for your money.
Eric Pascual only if you leave it plugged in when you take your Jeep in for service or warranty work. Plug and play easily removable before you take to dealer for any service work. 🤷♂️
Sorry I thought I responded to this! Yes an no. Yes it will but only if it is the direct cause of the issue you are having covered by a warranty. Dealerships will only cover factory parts, and a lot of them will not cover something if they think an aftermarket part is the issue. However it has to be proven to be the direct cause. Example : new (non factory) lift kit, the dealership will no longer cover any suspension parts, but they will still cover radio issues, electronics etc since those systems are completely deprecate under the warranty. So yes it will, same with any aftermarket part. So if your worried about warranty’s and you want to mod everything it’s probably better not to buy a Jeep
Hey genius, the reason Jeep does't give you a memory switch for stop start is because the EPA mandates they either provide nothing and you cannot control stop start (like a lot of Chevy models) or, they can at least provide the button where you can shut it off but each time you start the vehicle (and at least Jeep gave you that, because they could have provided you nothing like GM does).
I believe the start and stop serves a purpose if it saves me 1 gallon of gas a year and saves the Earth I'm all in. Maybe the Next few Generations will still have a planet. I was a watcher of your channel.
Might save you a gallon/yr but when the starter is over worked and busts you’ll have to get it replaced. Which means the original gets scraped and ends up as worse pollution in the first place. Which is why Tesla’s and electric vehicles are actually worse for the planet since their Li batteries will take centuries to degrade in a landfill
@@benanton2619 That's a STUPID reply I have a BMW and a Range Rover both have ESS for over 3 years on the BMW and 49k miles zero issues. That's just a BS reason. And if my starter goes out I can afford a new one.

nice job, all these people that like auto start/stop & have to spend $1500 on a new starter,,, there the same victims that are popping off at the jibs about you being lazy, totally agree! auto start/stop should be required to turn it on to activate it vs the other way around, buts that's common sense speaking, I'm out,,,! tc
Awesome. I hate the ESS.
Why is it that they cannot ship to California??
Because california is a socialistic governed state run by democraps who have taken away your freedom to choose on tons of these type choices. (They think you're to stupid to make up your own mind. Go socialism 👎) As long as you have socialist dumbocraps in office you'll continue to lose your freedoms one at a time. But hey, you can still vote, don't waste it!
Another stupid EPA requirement.
I hate it on my JL sport. No daytime running lights for safety, but an auto start/stop? Makes no sense. Had one on my F-150. If you used an illuminated hitch cover the truck thought it was towing and it would not work.
Wow, that sucks! Hoping they fixed that eventually?
Did they only make this for Jeeps. I have a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer and I absolutely hate the Auto Stop/Start crap in my car. I need one of these things badly. I was hit in the head in the Army and now my memory is real bad.
$130 ? I can buy the tazer for 219 and it does that and do many other things
$130 or just remove the hood pin you had before... Think I will stick with the hood pin. Or just spend a little more to get the Tazer Mini and get a lot more options for your money.
I completely agree, how annoying is this function, I love this hack, thanks I can have my normal life back again lol.
I hate that feature to
O by the way, if you don't wear your seat belt it doesn't shut off either.
Does this void warranty
Eric Pascual only if you leave it plugged in when you take your Jeep in for service or warranty work. Plug and play easily removable before you take to dealer for any service work. 🤷♂️
This doesn't cause an issue with your factory warranty? Great Video!
Does it cause an issue with Factory Warranty?
@@scottfletcher199 : awkward silence :
@@RIPPER334 Haha! I know, right? I thought I heard crickets.
@@benanton2619 no worries! Thanks for the reply! Love your videos!
Not a fan....of the auto start/stop feature on my Compass.
Don't blame Jeep for the functionality -- its government required.
The person at Jeep Chrysler that made this not a memeory button needs to be fired immediately!!!
Its mandated by the EPA (us gov), stop voting for fantasy chasers and this wouldn't happen
If the manufacturers had any sense they would have made the thing default to off not on.
👍
@@benanton2619 Tesla is in a class above Jeep. But stone age idiots will destroy the planet for a buck and say it wasn't their fault.
Interesting way to spell purpose!
comedy gold right there
Great Video but I'm not buying that thing for 130.00 dollars!!!
I don't like it but for 129.00 dollars all just keep pushing the button
