I love how much this feels like an actual TV show. It's so entertaining and I can't wait to see what comes next (maybe also some models that can't be saved in the time too). Amazing as always Sam!
Hey Sam, I had an idea on how to fix old Bachmann split chassis loco's. I know you don't have a metal 3D printer but you could 3D print new chassis for them turning them into normal chassis loco's, take the measurements of the old one and print. You'd have to fit them with wiper pickups, and since it wouldn't be as heavy as the original you could include compartnents and holes for led weights in the plastic chassis, it's worth a try. I may be off my rocker but it's food for thought.
@@ryancinarkaya5791 In one of the recent Lawrie goes a little loco episodes on Lawries mechanical marvels TH-cam channel Lawrie had got 3D printed replacement parts for a old Mainline locomotive with a split chassis (pre Bachmann loco) and the parts you mentioned were used.
Great ideas! Yes it's the axles themselves that are the main point of failure - and you sure can 3D print new ones! I love the idea of trying to create an all-new chassis though, fascinating! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great work, I've always been fascinated by the life and death of a locomotive, and also general restoration is very therapeutic & satisfying to watch. Can't wait for more, I completely lost track of time watching this. I know people have already said this, but this really does feel like an actual show from the Discovery Channel.
Great idea you have ! I like the idea to show us easy tricks to save a run-down engine, with a challenge on time to do the job. Anyway, you are highly skilled. I'm amazed to have been able to hardwire a DCC decoder on my Hornby Peckett without destroying everything (first time to do a proper use of a soldering iron for me !), so people with highly above average manual skills like you are my heroes. Keep on the good job done ! You are highly inspiring.
Wow, hope you're proud of this Sam! The production levels are excellent, better than many TV stuff with big budgets, and many projects I've video edited on. An excellent watch.
I've been really impressed with the ramp up in production value these days Sam! You're constantly coming up with ideas to freshen up your channel which started with a very simple core concept. Its one of the many reasons why I love this channel, good job Sam!
Amazing job Sam! You made it look like just a tv show! You could both salvage and scrap it! Save parts can be reusable and use the rest of it as a scrap model for a scrapyard display on your layout!
Love the idea for the show! It reminds me of classic Discovery Channel TV shows, and it could provide inspiration for others to attempt to repair other engines.
This is one of my favourite videos on this channel. A suggestion - you could get a hornby clockwork M Series (or MO Series). You can pick them up cheap in bad condition. It would certainly be a challange!
To be honest I was a little hesitant at first being like oh no what is this going to be like but now I really want to see what happens next and who gets scrapped great video
This series is definitely gonna help me because thanks to you Sam I fixed an old tri ang train my pop owned unlike the other where I got a misinterpretation lost the blob of carbon and had to restick it with glue thanks for this and I’ll be watching in the future
The work that has been done on heritage railways in restoring old locos and rolling shows you that in principle anything can be repaired! That 3D printer would allow you to design and produce a complete layout. Using the 3D printer to create lineside structures and buildings would mean keeping within the limitations of the resolution it is capable of. Why not have a go at replacing some of those cardboard things on your layout with your 3D printed creations? You've got that signal box to start with. Then platforms and waiting rooms! Thanks for all your efforts in uploading these videos in your usual inimitable style!
I absolutely LOVE this, with some reviews or other videos I watch certain parts and skip others and sometimes skip them entirely. But THIS was unskipable masterpiece. Also I would 110% buy that T-shirt if it was in your shop
Sam, I just love this video; and I am looking forward to more in this series. Excellent production values together with your dry sense of humor make it very entertaining. And I see you have wasted no time integrating your new and impressive 3D printing skills into your material. Thanks for making my Saturday better! Cheers from Wisconsin.
I watch your videos for some time now, and it's the first time I feel the need to say what a great video this is. That's not to say that others are not, but this one is just wonderful.
This was very well made! Original too, never thought of making a challenge timed show of restoring model locos, I think I've seen everything, and then something new comes along to prove me wrong! Well done!
lol the scrapman...wth!!...such a cool idea ..i admit i havent had my train out in yrs but still have a big interest and have kept all my stuff for the future...learning alot with all the new products and techniques, just from your channel alone...
this is now my favorite thing in the world, definitely keep this series going Sam i love it! can't wait for the episode involving the 57xx, idk why. but i love panniers. 94's gotta be my fav.
One saved scrap loco I was able to work on, I got a triang 3f with a terrible body (looked like the front had been melted) but working motor, and a Hornby James with no tender I got years ago at a car boot sale. I moved the gear to the axle of the James chassis (needed to use James' chassis because of the pony truck attachment) and then used a dremel to cut space in the James bodywork to allow the motor to fit. The rest of the triang body i carefully cut up to fix things like the roof and footplates of my other 3fs, now I have 3 tender driven locos and my nephew loves watching James run past with long loads of trucks. (James is still hoping for coaches one day!)
Well done for getting that Hornby 0-4-0 Tank Engine restored and back into working order again, especially making her a brand new smokebox door. I definitely do not want to see these precious model locomotives be sent to the Scrapman, especially the Triang Flying Scotsman, that will never do.
Love it. I have always had 2 phrases in modeling 1) make do and mend. And 2) your ability to create a new model is limited to you imagination. Keep up the good work. PS I want some trams🚋🚋🚋
An awesome series idea, a great first episode too. I bet you won't get that mainline 57xx fixed though... I've spent the last few days getting my garden railway sorted. I've wired across the first lift out section, pinned the track down, cut across the board joints, wired 2 phono plug/sockets in to power the removable track but still be removable, and added locating pins on either end. It now works well, with my 08 in charge of all 22 of my wagons. Next up, further extending round the garden when my local wood yard gets more decking planks in. And also testing with my 14xx and autocoach across the joint. I'm also thinking just wire jumper cables between each track joint to supplement the fishplates instead of wiring a full on bus wire, which would take a lot of wire and also be very hard to install with all the plants around.
This is absolutely amazing. I can't wait for more. Also as a tip you should make an advert for it in youtube shorts format as for what ever reason shorts on TH-cam are broken and get loads more views so it might bring in some more subs. I really can't wait for the next installment as the challenges get harder and maybe we might see some action from the scrap man not that that would be a particularly good thing but interesting at least.
It's the first time I've seen a machine so broken that it even takes money to pay Charon... Sam, this "Salvage or Scrap" show is a very good idea (I didn't want to write "bloody" here) ! Well done ! And you MUST save that 4-4-0 American from Rivarossi.
