  • A common problem with EV´s are brakes rusting or getting stuck since there is so much regen on the cars the brakes are used a lot less than ICE cars. When you change tires for the season its a good idea to spend an hour extra cleaning and lubing up your brakes. It´s not that hard and you don't need any special tools. Remember to set regen to low and use your brakes! However, a code from Tesla to deactivate the parking brake would have been nice. I´m not a skilled or professional mechanic, replicate and do it on your own risk. This video is for the Tesla model 3 Performance. Torque for the 20mm bolts is 140, caliper sliding pins 25nm

    THANK YOU for this! I couldn’t find any tutorials on the M3P performance red brakes that require front caliper removal. There are so many other tutorials on the LR versions where you don’t have to take the caliper off to remove the brake pads. Much needed video, THANK YOU!

    Great video - way above my personal skill level, but now I know how to ensure that the garage/shop does a proper brake clean. Thanks.

    Great video, It looks like you can just lube the sliders with the caliper still on the vehicle. Greasing the pads is mostly to stop noise I have never soon one stuck.

    Great vid, thanks. I recommend ceramic paste instead of copper/aluminum paste.
    Pro tip: For the rear/handbrakes, secure the wheels and put the car in Service -> tow/transport mode, and the handbrakes will release.

    Frosty, at 17 minutes in, you said you will not clean the 2 rear brake cylinders on the performance brake because they were working fine but will clean them later in the future. Its been 4 years ago, do you or can you make an update video on cleaning the the two rear brake cylinders and lubing them?

    It appears you did not need to remove the pad retaining pins at all? Also why so tight on them, they are never moving even if you lightly snugged them given their job and the loctite! It looked like you gave them hell! Loved your use of break cleaner and alcohol! Very good work! Thanks for the video!

    For the rear calipers, I saw another video where they put the vehicle in tow mode. Would that work?

    • @FrostyFingers
      @FrostyFingers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but if the car resets/restarts or something you are screwed if it powers up.

      Put in in Tow mode and once in tow mode unplug the wiring connector to the electronic parking brake to prevent it from resetting

    Actaully you need an E18 Torx - this is what the official service manual for the Model 3 says ;)

      Use this feature instead of putting the car in Neutral?

    Would've helped to have the camera showing the area behind the rear rotor you said to clean, etc. That showed us nothing.

    In Sweden, they would look like shit after just one winter. Cold, warm, wet, freezing, salt, gravel, dirt, ... Everything gets rusty.
