I tried this..it was amazing!it chopped cucumbers, onions, tomatoes n Cillantro, drizzled some olive.oil.n lemon juice with himalayan pink salt...tastes amazing!!
In India, particularly in the state of Maharashtra in India we eat sprouted lentils and eat them cooked mostly steam cooked or with little water. we sprout all various lentils and pulses even some beans. It is part of our traditional food and is called 'USAL'
@MochaEats - You can put them on top of anything or eat them as is. You can even "blend" them into a "mush" like texture and add them to any salad, sandwich, burger, etc., add a little mayo, relish or anything you choose to mix with the sprouts and spread on bread, or whatever! Mix with eggs if you eat eggs (don't cook them or cook very 'lightly') this, however will reduce the "nutritional" value of the sprouts. The sprouting of any seed, increases the "nutritional" value up to 200-300%.
important thing is to remove the water from the bottom tray and let the colander sit in the ""*DRY*"" tray till the next day. then wash soak for just a few mins (2-5 mins only). then remove the water from that bottom tray. let the colander sit in the dry tray.... not shown in the video. just mentioned orally. many new people might miss this most important point!
I started sprouting one pound of lentils twice a week and feeding them to my 10 chickens. Egg production went up 50 percent. I no longer feed commercial laying pellets; just grains and pulses. My chickens are thriving on their new diet.
THANK YOU. I read a couple of lentil sprouting guides, watched another video, and they have "sprouting jars" and other things that cost $5-10. I just wanted to sprout lentils with what I own to see if they're easier to digest (less gas inducing). I used my regular colander and by the second day the lentils had cracked. I waited another day and the sprouts were about 1/4-inch long. It was so easy!
I did the Fenugreek seed and Im just so excited to say I had awesome results.I put some Fenugreek Sprouts,Homeade Salsa,Garlic,Zucennie, dried Greens well I thought I went to heaven Thank-you so much for sharing this
Yes - SO good!! Sauté with garlic, s & p, a bit of soy sauce; and maybe a bit of cooked potato cubes. I like to use them when little green leaves have developed. I also use clear plastic/a glass container, to expose them to sunlight, for the development of chlorophyll, etc. As the lentils are sprouting, when they’re submerged, I also like to skim- off as many as the shedded seed skins as practically possible. They’re good!!
Great video explaining the process 👍However it’s very important to use organic seeds, lentils are sprayed with chemicals right till the end before harvesting…. My husband was a farmer and it was shocking to me how much chemicals he used and we were not aware, of how bad it it is to consume 😞
Great video, I’m really loving growing my lentil sprouts! I eat raw sprouts every day. No need to cook them. They are more nutritious and delicious raw. Very easy to digest.
Hi quick question if I may? After the 3 days do you leave them to sit and dry and then put them in a ziplock bag in the fridge? That would be what my intuition would say
well here I am again - Day 4 and I am very happy with my batch - had some in salad yesterday and they were great. now what has happened is I did too much - so now looking for how to keep and preserve freeze etc Thanks for video - my tupperware steamers turned out to be perfect for the task
Awesome video. I was sorting my lentils for soup and was like I want to see what a lentil plant looks like. Thanks you for this video. I was not aware that I could make lentil sprouts.
How serendipitous!!! Incidentally, I was looking for a how to sprout lentils video. Found yours, watched it and thought, I better subscribe. Turns out, your Channel Name is Khang Starr. Now, in October '21, I rescued a little kitten and called her Kang Kang, you know, because I was walking down the street when, KANG! KANG! There she was. Decided to Google Kang Kang, was a bit taken aback by the meaning and thought it better to call her Kangster, because by this time, she was already used to the Kang sound. Like I said, SERENDIPITY! That or Google's algorithm's heard me say Kangster so much that it went directly to you. Either way. Great video. Simple. Thank you. I hope you read this 😃
Thanks for this thorough explanation. I've used a method just leave damp paper towel on seeds and this works as well for the duration of 5 days or longer. Important to note dampen the towel or paper as needed only.
lentils are good in that they dont go bad like other beans and seeds when trying to sprout, buckwheat is also good for not needing rinsing during sprout process, they seem to be anti bacterial (unlike black beans or quinoa that rot easily if not cleaned meticulously) good vid
I have sprouted many seeds however, it was by mistake that I learned to sprout lentils. LOL I made an amazing sprouted lentil and sweet potato Mediterranean soup, it was fantastic!!! Thanks for your video! PS, people can also buy a sprouting jar if they don't have a colander. I bought mine at a whole health food store for under $6.
what an absolutely fantastic video! very clear instructions concise and to the point. absolutely superb voice as well. so one of the other videos the girl says that most of the seeds have pesticides on them and they can be poisonous. how do I know which ones are safe to sprout?
To be certain, buy your seeds from sprouting websites, they are mostly organic and will not have any pesticides. I order from GotSprouts.com, Amazon and Sprouthouse.
@Bluegrass Arts Anne - I found one, here in NYC, at a 99¢ store. You can also check stores like Target and Wal-Mart. It's kinda like being in the right place at the right time when it comes to discount stores.

I literally had wet lentil I soaked over night, cooked half left the the other half in the fridge in a container and forgot about it, days later FULL of sprouts Left some pieces of garlic cloves in my fridge too n forgot about them... they sprouted too. Easiest method by far lol
These sprouts are awesome cooked in homemade bone broth, with just a little powdered black pepper, turmeric and sea salt, served over hot rice! Yummmmm!!!;-)
Thanks for the video! I'm doing this. I couldn't find a cool colander with a bin like you have. Where did you get that one? I'm using 2 Dollar store bins, one with holes poked in it (it shattered a bit so I had to line it with paper towel) and the other as the catch tray. I'm looking forward to eating my lentil sprouts in 3-4 days!
Thank you for this video, it answered my questions perfectly! I'm heading to the store tomorrow to scout out the dry bean aisle. I wish there were whole peas. I would love to sprout peas. I may have to go to a larger store to see if they have whole peas instead of split peas. I'm also glad I could watch this with captions on, so as not to disturb my husband who is watching TV. :)
Sprouts are adding texture and they fill you up, both in energy and feeling. That's a game changer for me. Didn't know it was that simple, any idea why they're selling so freaking expensive in grocery store?
I have tried mung bans, lentils and alfalfa.. all of them do well but the most delicious are alfalfa and lentils. I dont care much about the mung beans. Also, I have no luck growing broccoli seeds.. I like 5 days lentils and warm them for 10 seconds on the pan to activate the sulfuraphane.. which is great enzyme
Wow a lot goes into making sprouts. This makes it very clear. I guess it won't work with the lentils that are already split, like Indian dal. I have some French lentils (green), probably that will work. I need to get the colander.
Hi - this is great video - you are very clear and cover everything nicely - okay so I am motivated to try, but have a question you may be able to answer for me before I get started. I have a similar set up to use and have a lid and I am wondering if that is just as good as a towel or if the reason for towel is to let air circulate thanks
Nice vid! What would happen if you'd eat the 10 day old lentil sprouts? Personally I think I'd enjoy them more in that stage but now I'm curious as to why one shouldn't. Thanks.
you forgot to mention that plants defend themselves with lightly toxic saponines to prevent animals eating them too much.. sprouting gets rid of the saponines and also activates the enzymes, which is even better for digestion..
I tried this..it was amazing!it chopped cucumbers, onions, tomatoes n Cillantro, drizzled some olive.oil.n lemon juice with himalayan pink salt...tastes amazing!!
yeah this sounds delicious
I would have skipped the oil and salt
Dude, I've got to try that!
2 more days to try it ! thank you !! you mean raw dont you??

@Pyramyd Seven - I believe she means like in a food processor or chopping which is another great way to eat them.

Same name :)
Thank you, i was gonna make a mistake by leaving the water there, i thought that lentils soak the water.
Thank you for a great video. Where did you purchase this colander. Haven't seen one with collecting water tray. Thanks.
Hanae Soodi He mentions it at 2:19. Even I understand what he said. To discard the water after a few mins.
Hanae Soodi Why?He mentions it at 2:19.

Great video! Where can you get a colander like that?
My parents used to sprout when I was a kid. It tastes different when cooked, actually better than non sprouted
What a beautiful and soothing voice you have.....
Thank you for the kind comment!

I put mine by a heat source but not directly on it.They grow faster that way.
Where did you find that awesome flat colander with a liner?

I like the mason jar method.

Thanks from Pakistan.

@@KhangStarr I couldn't find a colander with a catch tray like you have. Where did you get that one? It looks spot on for the job.
Thank you for posting this video. Very useful. Exactly what I was searching for. Simple!
I like your video - short but sufficient, so it doesn't require much time to watch. Thanks

when you say "lentil seeds", you mean regular lentils right?

I love that collander..where do you find that double layerd one?
Great video , very informative. I'll try those lentils that way.
Thank you 🤗
HI Khang, I really enjoyed your video and wondered if you will or could do a video on sprouting chickpeas.
Thanks Chris
