Fortunately, it looks like the construction access points mean that the TBMs won't have to each do the full tunnel lengths. The tunneling time at Pacheco Pass is estimated at 4 years with multiple TBMs working and these segmented tunnels don't appear to be individually longer. Not relying on just one TBM means that they aren't fully reliant on any one TBM like with Bertha in Seattle where it broke down and delayed the entire project by two years. Needless to say, I'm pleased to see their preferred route is the segmented SR14A route and not the continuous E1 or E2 options.
@Ringsofearth It's a pretty fixed time frame of 4-5 years since it's pretty hard for external factors to affect tunnel boring rates. Not sure what the existing President has to do with this state project, but even if he doesn't like the California project, he agrees they are a good investment. "They have trains that go 300 miles per hour. We have trains that go chug … chug … chug. Our airports, bridges, water tunnels, power grids, rail systems-our nation’s entire infrastructure is crumbling, and we aren’t doing anything about it. These projects put people to work-not just the people doing the work but also the manufacturers, the suppliers, the designers, and, yes, even the lawyers. The Senate Budget Committee estimates that rebuilding America will create 13 million jobs. On the federal level, this is going to be an expensive investment, no question about that. But in the long run it will more than pay for itself. It will stimulate our economy while it is being built and make it a lot easier to do business when it’s done." - Donald Trump, March 3, 2016. I wholeheartedly agree with him. We need to invest more on a federal level in our airports, bridges, water tunnels, power grids, and rail systems. LAX has the $14 billion Landside Access Modernization Program. Now we just need to get the rest done too because freedom of travel choices is a great thing and Trump recognizes that.

The High-Speed Train To Fucking NOWHERE !!! Lmfao
Lots of tunnelling to do, I hope your boring machines are good.

@Ringsofearth You can build a wall around yourself, then put a lid on top.
