I didn’t miss any chapter every Thursday at 9:00 pm, in Costa Rica, in the early 80’s I love it! I called my pet at that time after Joan Collins: Alexis.
My current Chihuahua is named Sable - I thought about the name Alexis but I read a pet training expert says pets shouldn't have names with more than two syllables - am looking for another pet whom I might name Lexi (for Alexis).
It's remarkable how an American audience embraced a British actress as Alexis. Just goes to show how well a sense of 'otherness' serves a villain. Pamela Nomvete as Ntsiki on Generations is another great example. Although South African, she grew up overseas and couldn't speak any of the local languages, but my word, what an actress! People still remember the character to this day. Good thinking, producers!
Yeah! The real cat fights were between Joan and John that you can definitely see onscreen Linda and Joan probably were nice and courteous to each other but that was about it.
But the problem was... Linda and Joan knew each other in real life long before dynasty. And their relationship was OK. So, it was difficult to set it as a rivalry.

I'm currently working my way through the entire series of Dynasty. There are two things that I find really odd. The first Fallon was an American, then later replaced by an English woman who looked nor sounded anything like the original. Then we had Amanda who had an English accent, but was later replaced with an American - Crazy.
Pamela Sue Martin is an American actress, who originated the role of Fallon Carrington. Pamela was replaced by British actress Emma Samms, who also had a recurring role on the popular American soap opera "General Hospital" during that time. Catherine Oxenburg who played Amanda Carrington, was replace by an American actress (forgot her name), but she was only there for a few episodes (wasn't a good actress either) and the Amanda Carrington character was dropped from the show.
@@MrJuly1990ish the actress who attempted to replace Catherine Oxenburg as Amanda is Karen Cellini, an American - think she's originally from Philly and is 3 years older than Catherine.
I never understood why they insisted on recasting a part when someone left. Couldn't they whip up some secret lovechild or cousin, similar in spirit but a different person. That would be far more interesting and I don't know about anyone else but I saw the two Fallons and two Stephens as entirely different people. I don't care how traditional this recasting is in American television. It just does not work.

Yes very interesting. You can see how though: Blake really was the centrepiece of that show and when Alexis came along it sidelined his limelight. Showbusiness is all about the masthead and who gets top billing. It's as simple as that so it makes sense that Joan stole John's thunder and he wasn't happy. He was also a very established television actor by that stage. Joan was always considered a B-grade film actress who really just got lucky when Sophia Loren wanted too much money to play Alexis and Joan wasn't even in fact a 2nd choice. She had done a part on Fantasy Island so she was familiar to the Spelling producers. All of that backstory and "pedigree" counts in showbusiness: the whole "who the hell is she?" Phenomenon. Joan got lucky essentially and it just worked. It's all timing and fate. I don't understand though why Joan says "I never understood Linda"... I think Linda Evans was a really beautiful personality and much too subtle and ethereal for the bawdy and unsubtle Collins. I always felt Linda had a lot of class and pedigree as a person and she carried herself so beautifully through all the scenes on Dynasty and was such a lady. She also retreated from the limelight once the show was over and I think was quite a truth-seeker, always on a spiritual path. Of course the very worldly Joan didn't understand that. I thought exactly the same thing and I love armie hammer and John James. John James could easily play armie's father or older brother in a series. I would love to see them do a series together. They truly are two beautiful, beautiful men. John James just hasn't aged much at all and is still gorgeous.
Catherine oxenburg was so beautiful when she was young. She has aristocratic blood and I always thought she bought so much class to the show. Her wedding dress at the time in the show set trends and she looked amazing. Kind of the Grace Kelly of the 80s! I always thought her sleeping with her mother's boyfriend Dex was so hysterical and outrageous but I loved it anyway. That's what made Dynasty! All that illicit and transgressive sleeping around - so fabulous.!
I'm wondering and baff how important it is to discuss the choice Taylor or Collins...!? For me it makes no difference , they a quite the same types. I ' m occasionally tempted to fancy ..... they choose class....and an enjoyable face.! 👍
I loved the show however I thought that some of the stories were stupid and unrealistic. For example I had difficulty watching the story of Kristal and Rita played both by Linda Evans. Boring.
The storylines were some of the stupidest shown on TV. They contributed more than anything else to the shows demise. I still watched it though. Re-watching it recently though I couldn't make it to the end. It was so annoyingly absurd.
Dynasty was always the poor man's DALLAS. There's no question about what the SUPERIOR show always was starting with the opening, the actors, the characters, the scripts, just everything. Dynasty was no.1 for a single year ONLY while DALLAS was the number 1 show in the US and the world for years and years and years. Dynasty was just a novelty that had A woman JR with clothes and jewelery, no substance, just facade and bad, so bad scripts. And they topped it off with aliens, lmao. Meanwhile DALLAS still holds up and always will because it was quality 100%!
Didn't the Devil show up in the last episode of Dallas?? Hardly what I would call 100% quality...it became an absolute farce after the it was all a dream season.
TheMediaDirectory perhaps true but I still adored Dynasty more. It had a spellbinding magic Dallas just didn't. Dallas was too drawn out and went on way too long. Length of production is not how you should judge a tv series because tv is a disposable commodity. It's about impact not length and certainly soaps aren't about grit but about aspiration and fantasy. Dynasty also had a superb ensemble cast which I can't say Dallas did apart from its 3 main stars. It also seemed to capture something about the 1980s in ways Dallas couldn't. Or didn't. It epitomised the times politically economically and socially, and created firsts in all sorts of ways : it gave voice to gays and older women and so on. So it had social impact. You can't say Dallas did the same thing, despite the "quality" you mention in its production values.
AtomicPickle1 Dynasty was just a copy of DALLAS. Everyone knows that. After the abc executives saw what a huge hit DALLAS was for CBS, they literally said 'We need a DALLAS.' SO YEAH!
DALLAS was great for the first four years. DYNASTY was also good during seasons 1, 2 & 9 --- but in between, it got totally lost, as if written by children... As John Forsythe once said: "the producers didn't know what they wanted."
Documentaries like this are so sad to see. It's clear that that American TV companies prime goal was to do the usual thing in the US- try and be as dramatic as possible with no substance. Pathetic. "John and Joan were at each others throats" "Linda scrubbed every part of her and downed mouthwash after kissing Rock Hudson".. It discusts me that talentless crap like this was even allowed back then, but hey, the USA needs any drama it can get. Putrid and just what I would expect from them.
In the last season of Dynasty, it was very sad. I watched the last season of Dynasty and it was terrible. Blake and Alexis's two children were not in the last season Amanda and Steven were not there. The characters of Sable and Monica could not save the show. Al Corley was a much better Steven and he was way more cute than the second season. I felt bad for Joan she gain a little bit of weight in the last season. But when the tv - movie was made she lost weight and I was happy for her.
John Forsythe was absolutely perfect as Blake Carrington! I adore his whole appearance and voice ❤

what happen_ED 2 da 1st 30 minutes about GROWING PAINS . . . LMFAO
...Nolan Miller was wrong for that rug.
Joan Collins and Alexis are one and the same person.
I do think the same - she is only realy known as Alexis ..
They did some shit editing my making Collins sound like she hated Linda. Not the case.
Esther Shapiro is a bitch. She and her husband destroyed the show and never gave anyone any credit.
I really did like Catherine Oxenberg not Karen Cellini.
1:20 😂😂😂 🚬
They took down the Dallas one.
I'm wondering and baff how important it is to discuss the choice Taylor or Collins...!? For me it makes no difference , they a quite the same types. I ' m occasionally tempted to fancy ..... they choose class....and an enjoyable face.! 👍
I greatly up wanting to be rich
So they threw John under the 🚌🚌🚌 really 🤔🤦🏾♀️ horrible
Catherine Oxenberg has a different face
I loved the show however I thought that some of the stories were stupid and unrealistic. For example I had difficulty watching the story of Kristal and Rita played both by Linda Evans. Boring.
"Oxenberg terminated"
JOAN COLLINS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,JOAN CRAWFORD..1904-'77
Bochinche!!!!
Apparently John was not a fan of strong women..
SIGH....you can't get AIDS from kissing somebody!!! 🙄🙄☹️This docuview is VERY tongue-in-cheek! 😂
they are talking about when aids was new to the public in the 80s. calm down
It can happen if both have sores on their lips.
The storylines were some of the stupidest shown on TV. They contributed more than anything else to the shows demise. I still watched it though. Re-watching it recently though I couldn't make it to the end. It was so annoyingly absurd.
Diahann Carroll's hairstyle was HIDEOUS!
No. Both women adored each other. Such BS.
How come diahann carroll is so white?
Aliens was The Colbys. Dallas had it's fair share of bad scripts too!
AtomicPickle1 Dynasty was just a copy of DALLAS. Everyone knows that. After the abc executives saw what a huge hit DALLAS was for CBS, they literally said 'We need a DALLAS.' SO YEAH!
@@TheMediaDirectory Of course! Dynasty was more about the glamour.
George was great. Dynasty was shit. Dallas forever!
DALLAS was great for the first four years. DYNASTY was also good during seasons 1, 2 & 9 --- but in between, it got totally lost, as if written by children... As John Forsythe once said: "the producers didn't know what they wanted."
Dynasty was great during all its seasons with the only exception of season 7.
The last season of Dynasty was the best.
