@@meeks105 I agree with you on that part because Sonic Generations had the Unleashed lightning engine but it’s deactivated for stability purposes and it is very possible to re-enable it with mods to make it look as beautiful as Unleashed does.
This game was beautiful when it came out, and it is still beautiful to this day. Sega nailed the art style, colors and lighting effects in Unleashed. It's so polished.
The voices and acting were better too. As well as personalities. Granted I love the gameplay and story of frontiers. But the voices personalities and acting just doesn't hit that mark for me. Though the game itself is in the right direction in terms of design.
It's obviously the PS3 ver that still have inconsistent FPS in some areas. No matter how beastly powerful your CPU+your spec is. Still. I hope your having a blast with your build!
@@Navi_Silver On the Xenia emulator? Not possible to do full walkthrough, unless you have a complete save data from a modded 360 for playtesting.. It crashes a lot, even at Hub worlds as well. But constant 60fps
@@forgives12 Use the vulkan renderer in the latest canary, I've been playing Unleashed on Xenia from start to finish using it. The only issue that Vulkan has is in Empire city, the streets get green, for some reason. You won't be playing in 4K 60, but the game will run at 720p 30, "as intended". Last time I've played the game on RPCS3 I had real bad performance on Empire City Night and Spagonia Night, it was just unplayable
RPCS3 and Xenia are making some huge strides! Though there are stability issues with Xenia Canary at the moment. Don't let that stop you, but stay as little time in the main hub worlds as you can before the game crashes. RPCS3 is playable from start to finish, but dips in FPS happen. I hope that both can work together to improve stability and performance.

This game released on consoles almost 14 years ago and to this day it’s a shame that in my opinion no boost stages come close to the treatment Unleashed got. Generations was cute with minor fixes but Forces was a major slap in the face, hopefully Frontiers can revive this captivating rush of adrenaline you get playing because the fact that we can’t port this game or get an Ultimate Edition like Colors is very frustrating. Sega lowkey knows that’d make bank too if they ever thought about putting Unleashed on the PS5/ Xbox

Back when Sonic Team tried Edit: Coming back to this after Frontiers, I'm pleasantly surprised with how fun it is, but overall, Unleashed just feels better. Not only more finished, but more graphically impressive as well. I look forward to however they may proceed after Frontiers, though. It's not as much of Sonic Team's fault as it is SEGA's for rushing them time and time again.
This is soooo damn good! I know that the FPS loss is not the fault of the game itself or the computer. The boundaries of optimization on the Playstation 3 were tight. Sonic Team did the best they could not to amortize the experience or have to cut any content. Nice video!
Lol now that I think about it if he spent $4000 on liquid nitrogen cooling equipment he might be able to overclock the 7950x and the 4090 to the point where 120 fps at 4k might even be possible Then again he would need to learn how to overclock cpus and gpus using LN2 and have someone else to pour the LN2 while he is gaming (which is technically impossible because pc gamers have no friends)
It is genuinely surprising that even on the Ryzen 7950X and its additional benefits on the front of Instruction Sets, the Aero Chaser portion of Jungle Joyride (Day) is still able to see framerate dips, though I am not all too certain on if this is a Resolution or Coding issue with RPCS at this point due to not yet having worked with Zen IV (I have a 5950X, at the time of typing; it's respectable for its intended purpose, but even this, Hydrophobia, and PGA Tour 'I2 to 'I4 still struggle to stay at 060 FPS in many areas when paired with a Radeon VII); it's been genuinely pleasant watching the emulator evolve over the years, what was once a Slideshow or Crashfest is now reasonably stable (even if a title is still in Ingame status, rather than Playable) and I hope we'll end up in a position where AMD CPUs and GPUs will witness the same kind of optimizations that Intel and Nvidia have gotten, there's definitely a Hardware Bias still present for obvious reasons but wishfully that will significantly improve as this decade progresses. (:
The fact that one course lasted 5 minutes is a huge deal on Segas part. The maps are really intricate and abstract, not to mention the camera angles and speed used to make this come alive.

This is fantastic! It really brings out color and graphical merit of Unleashed! The fact we're never going to get another game that looks and makes you feel like Sonic Unleashed is, however, sad.

Well, blame IGN and other reviewers at the time when the game came out (especially they didn't played the full game for the review, i think it was like 4 hours), and the game was poorly optimized for PS3 and Xbox 360. I'm just wondering what kind of computers SEGA had when making this game, with the amount of polygons.
Almost the same performance on my 11700k. I guess there's a limit at some point but at least you don't have to get the latest R9 to reach it. Nice runs btw 👏.

RPCS3 is now where Dolphin was at version 4. Incredibly impressive software but there's still issues like audio hitching and you need really good hardware to run it at a playable frame rate. If they keep this up it'll be amazing.

Sonic Unleashed is still quite a thrill to play, even to this day. The rollercoaster feel of these levels is what made me enjoy these 3D Sonic games, no matter how bad any of them were. Sonic Generations is still my favorite 3D Sonic for its level design, while Unleashed was simple but still holds a lot of action to entertain you for a long time.

Fun fact: There is an option you can check to get rid of that awful audio crackling. "Enable SPU Loop Detection". Having it on or off (depending on the PC) will either create crackling audio or completely remove it. Tested this game out way too many times, haha.

I am currently building a PC quite similar to yours to do the exact same thing. The loop holes I will go through to play this game at it's best quality.
If this is the main thing you want to play, the back compat version on Xbox can run smoother than it did on original hardware. I don't think its boost mode is as strong as Generations though, which runs full 4K 60fps on Series X.

i think it has to do a lot with the lighting. look at far cry 3, the textures don't hold up but the lighting makes the game look great.

Yeah, by experience, Xenia version not lasted that long for me. First loading screen, game crashed.
Ps3 had variable fps which in some areas was 60fps, Xbox 360 was capped at 30 fps but was more consistently 30 fps

The best cheapest way to play it in my opinion is on the Xbox Series X. I have it and the frame rate/graphics are beautiful. Way ahead of it’s time

I am currently building a PC quite similar to yours to do the exact same thing. The loop holes I will go through to play this game at it's best quality.
If this is the main thing you want to play, the back compat version on Xbox can run smoother than it did on original hardware. I don't think its boost mode is as strong as Generations though, which runs full 4K 60fps on Series X.

Sonic unleashed is probably the most visually impressive looking sonic games to exist frontiers could look stunning too and can’t wait to see modified graphics enhancements to it just like this
