Great job with the insulation and ceiling demo. Are you going to be keeping the kitchen where it is and if so are you going to be keeping the character it has now or replacing it with a modern one?Your dog certainly loved the beach, made me smile watching it.lookibg forward to your next post.
Yeah we will keep the kitchen in that room and going to keep the inglenook as it - wether we can get the fireplace working or not is tbc but we will put in a modern cooker etc in the rest of the room
Loving Gav being'not too happy'! To be fair, having seen so many people who have never done any building work before spend SO long messing about, it's refreshing seeing an actual experienced trades person just pile into a job and get it done. I think you're a good team. 😁
Please , IGNORE the armchair experts . It is YOUR forever home , Gavin obviously knows what he is doing and has plenty of experience . Do the job YOUR way and we will have the joy of seeing the beautiful homestead that you create , good luck and a BIG thankyou for taking us along on your journey . Woof woof Sarin
Oh lordy 🙅♀️clearly the keyboard warriors have never lived in an older stone built house let alone renovated one. Of course you have to strip put, especially when the house has been damp! You guys are doing a great thing by saving an old building and future proofing it. That's far more responsible than buying a new build. You do you 😊
This is what renovating an old house is like, you have to strip everything down, sometimes to the bare bricks, to repair the damage of previous renovations and do everything decently. Gova's face is priceless😁! A dog happy on the beach, it's so nice to see her joy. Everything will be fine and beautiful, it just takes time and work! Take care👍
I was brought up in a house like this, you are doing the right thing now getting back to the bare bones of the house and identifying any issues to be sorted now, not 6 months down the road when you have damp or water ingress and need to undo the work you have done. You need to bring the house up to date from a basic building to one fit for a modern lifestyle that you can live in for many years without any issues. Good luck, i am enjoying your journey.
I love watching Gav’s face! In a few years he will be the village grumpy old Welshman! Sunday is not complete without Nichole’s humor and the homestead.
Don't feel like you have to explain your decisions! Ignore the haters and people who think they know better. Just continue the project at your own pace and own way and we will all stick around.to follow the process, you are doing great!
You pair are such great workers it’s so good to see you getting on with it, you are such a lucky lady having your very own Victor Mildrew to keep you entertained, can’t wait for Episode 9
@@Dannyp8038 yes agree. We have just been through a back to brick full renovation just like Gav and Nicole. People will always do things differently from each other and that’s cool. It’s a huge undertaking. Wishing these guy well, it’s a huge challenge but they will do it no problem.
Totally agree with those people saying it’s your house, your decisions, your money so ignore the doubters and do what you want when you can. Just enjoy it if you can, it’s a huge task and will take a long time but when you look back in a few years you will be amazed what you achieved and reap the benefits. Good luck to you.
I agree with so many of the comments here. It's been obvious from your first video that your plans for the house, the buildings, and the land are good and sensitive to the property. Keeping the character and add those modern conveniences that will make it more comfortable and efficient. Well done.
It’s your house, do it exactly how you want. It’s no concern of anyone else what wall or ceiling you rip down or keep. They are not paying for it. Best of luck x
You guys have done so much already. I think that you are going about it the right way, you are going to know exactly what you have in the end and not be thinking about the botched jobs someone else did years ago. 👍❤️
You are going about this renovation in precisely the correct way. Keep and restore as many original features as you can, but you also have to be realistic and practical as well. Keep up the great work. Keep the timber lathes for kindling too.
Hi there, episode 8 popped onto my page and I clicked so fast. This kind of channel is just my kind of thing, I went back to your first post and have watched all of them and also subbed. Gav you’re hilarious!!! Great couple!!
Your home, your choice; I agree with the changes, especially with the small size of the beams , which I noticed hardly held even a person walking across them. You guys are on the right track.
Your house, your rules! It’s a big commitment and many years worth of work. I’m enjoying your style of presenting very informal and literally like a chat over the garden fence! Love it! ❤
Hard work, well done. I’m enjoying watching you renovate. You don’t have to explain to most people why you are starting with a back to bare bones approach with the house, we can see. Ignore the critics, there will always be nobends who think they know better 😂
Of course you have to gut the house - that is just logical for any renovation of this age of house. Clearly the house requires a lot of work to bring it into today's era with basics like plumbing and electricity but if also provides you with the opportunity to put in what you want. Please ignore the negative comments - one would assume that those making these comments have clearly not walked in your shoes.
Don’t listen to the comments. It’s your house and your design. Just like the people who built it, they made it into what worked best for them. Open that place up and build it how you want it and what suits your needs. Pocket doors are a nice touch on older homes that don’t take up much space.
Great job both. Look after each other and have a giggle. You will look back on this time sitting in the warmth of your Welsh farmhouse kitchen in a few years and recall what fun you had. Loving your work Gav. Ignore the pigeon poo comments….they are as nothing before your trusty yard brush!

Oh of course not! We love all the advice - it's more just people presuming we would be throwing them out or destroying the character of the building but we maybe didn't do a good enough job of explaining our plan from the beginning!
Love watching this it’s coming on well those plaster lathe ceilings are pure dust I do like the idea of the vaulted ceiling’s upstairs keep up the good work
Gav is a man of not so many words but I like his ideas about using traditional materials with some modern innovation to restore the farmhouse. You have to get rid of anything that is damp or rotting else you'll be creating problems from the get go if you don't. Good luck to you both, I hope the coming winter isn't too harsh and you can keep the caravan cozy. West Wales is known for its early daffodils and potatoes so fingers crossed for you.
Great job both of you. Really hard work getting those ceilings down but it will be well worth it. Thanks for sharing your progress and as others have said don’t worry about anyone else’s opinions unless you specifically ask for it. Your house your rules 👍
Yeah if you’ve got loadsa money to spend on your restoration, then yes throw everything away, salvageable or not. But if you’re like me…… then keep as much as possible 🙂 But a wonderful undertaking to completely restore an old Welsh Farmhouse…….. well done 👏👏
I was one of the people a bit sad about the ripping out, but I now totally understand, concrete tanking is the devils work but builders are still doing it as a fix for damp. Will Gav be running a building business in your new home area? Because I would totally trust him with my old house ❤

At work the HSE man told us to wear gloves when using the high speed drum sanders, so I asked him if we should wear neckties as well. Keep up the great work.
My ceilings in my old Welsh longhouse are just boards butted up against each other not really fixed to the cross beams. They were covered in layers of feed sacks glued in place. That took a while to get off! My doors are identical to yours, but I still have the old bakelite switches for the lights. The stone walls do not have a skirting board as it would be impossible to fit them, so when you chip off the cement render you may find the same. Offer the half decent insulation to those with a caravan to stuff underneath for insulation - you get rid of it and they are grateful! Seren got the zoomies!
You have my respect and admiration for the standard of building and restoration you are committed to. It will take more work initially, but yeah, it will be best in the long run. I love your commentary, and Gav needs to use gloves more-what a pair!
Great to see your plans develop as you uncover more problem and clear the mess. Perhaps you should rename the house the Tardis and it looks so much bigger on the inside then out. Thank you for a great update.

Clever to remove the ceilings from above.
