1989 Volvo 240 Overdrive Doesn't Engage - Relay Fix

If your overdrive does not engage it may be as simple as a fuse or the overdrive relay could be not working. The overdrive relay just may need to have the solder points refreshed with new solder. Fixing the overdrive relay is an easy fix.

I've been looking for this video for a few months since my 5th gear stopped working. Thank you very much. Yes, mine was also desoldered and after fix - started clicking and indicator appeared on a dashboard. Best regards and thanks man!

I’m new to Volvos, drove it home after purchasing yesterday and was working then stopped and the light came on and won’t go off. I can’t go past 70mph and if I stomp on it in 4 the car revs but goes no where. Curious would this be caused by it not going into overdrive or is it a transmission issue

Sorry I am geting to this late. Is the red arrow on? It sounds like yours must shift into overdrive to go 70.
