      Someone needs to develop a silencer for them. Maybe an internal coating/baffle within the snorkel itself. Meredith in Brisbane have just developed a silencer for theirs, game changer.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. Glad it helped with your decision. I guess it all comes down to each persons usage - if you’re not likely to tackle water, then just know your wading limits etc and if driving dusty conditions behind other vehicles, I’m sure you’ll keep on top of your air filter maintenance etc 👍

      You don’t normally get a snorkel for looks per say. Main reason is to stop water entering your engine during water crossing and secondly reducing dust ingress to your filter. Too many 4WD’s are mall crawlers these days.

    warmest regards from Italy Florence a question about the snorkel I see many snorkels on many off-road vehicles that have the mushroom pipe turned towards the rear of the 4x4 off-road vehicle and does anyone have the mushroom pipe turned towards the front of the 4x4 off-road vehicle? (and some off-road vehicles Does the 4x4 have a cyclone mushroom like an agricultural or earthmoving machine?) Christmas 2023 from Italy Florence!)

      Hi thanks for the message. You do see these type of snorkel heads on farms and places where there are particularly dusty conditions. Be interested to hear others views on front vs rear.
      These type of heads are more commonly used on the plastic moulded type of snorkel, rather than stainless.

    Hi Mate. The ranger looks beautiful. I have noticed you have installed the IDrive. does it make it better on fuel? I have the Everest sport V6 and im doing 14/100. Im looking for something to to drop to fuel down. Thanks.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate 👌 It’s been a cool process building it up and still a few things to come.
      14 seems a bit high - is your Everest modified / carrying a lot of extra weight/big tyres? Ultimately a lot will depend on the type of driving you do (Eg a lot of stop/start vs hwy).
      Generally an idrive (EVC) Is not used to lower consumption - can have the opposite effect if you have on some of the more aggressive settings. There is an eco setting, but I wouldn’t be advocating for this as I found from stock the V6 to be a little laggy - therefore adding to this wouldn’t be ideal. I’ve found the EVC really livens it up and makes it more drivable and more control offroad.
      Suggest a chat to your local Ford dealer just to double check nothing else going on.

    Honestly man, that induction noise is a bit too much for me. I don't mean to rain on your parade and I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I reckon that would get annoying so quickly. I think a plastic snorkels are better sounding, the metal ones have too much resonance for my liking, but the metal ones look WAY better. But that's the thing one mans annoyance is another mans delight. Still a slick looking car, all the best with it. Oddly enough the v6 has a bit of a similar rumble to the old 5 cylinders, on camera anyway.

    • @Johnno1979
      @Johnno1979 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It seems the only people saying a snorkel won't increase your fuel use are those who sell them. Pretty much everyone else has in increase of at least 10%. Adding anything to the outside of your 4wd impacts fuel consumption, weather it be roof racks, bull bars, awnings, big tyres or snorkels.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Wadeftt I haven’t noticed any increase in fuel consumption from adding a snorkel. There may be some marginal differences between forward facing (ram effect) vs rear facing. End of the day if you’re driving dusty roads, or there’s a potential of driving in deep water, a snorkel will be of benefit. Otherwise probably not necessary.

    Great video thanks for keeping these coming. There is a bit of resonance there which I don't love - not sure if it's the materials, diameter of the pipe or airflow path. May also just be air running over the edge of the pipe? 5:37 the sound of the pipe after the turbo spools down and after, there is a sort of constant whistling which doesn't change with the turbo. Could just be how stainless sounds, I don't own one so would do more research before I make the purchase.
    On a side note, what a great rig you've got!
