Great job done Ben, the result looks awesome. I have to do mine also, but first I’m working under the car, painting the exhaust and spraying a lanolin oil based film over the underside to protect it from the salty roads this winter.😊

Might look at some underbody protection on mine at some point, luckily we don’t suffer salty roads here in France. Not sure what they chuck on the roads but it doesn’t seem to rot the car.

Clear coat spray paint works really well lasts longer

My early 322 might not be the most reliable but I sure do love the glass headlamps on it.

Yes, my old TD6 had lovely shiny glass headlights, never had a problem with them. And they call it progress.

Good work Ben, looks much improved 👍. Got my MOT on 6th as well! Not done many miles either so 🤞. Hope yours goes through ok👍 Just done a 320mile return trip to Norwich for the weekend! Eats the miles in great comfort! Checked for codes with IID on return, nothing new! 👍 Oh solar panels now installed, got a 3.6kw inverter. Obviously not a lot of sun atm🤣

Not much sun here at the moment. Last December we did 145kwh, hoping to get more this December.

Ummmm the reflectors on mine is the bigger problem. Sometimes looks like I’m driving around with candles up front!

On my L322 headlamps which were as bad as yours and slightly yellow, I started at 300 grit, then 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and finished at 3000, then used some head lamp lacquer, they are now perfect and have lasted. I didn’t need to use a polisher or polisher.
Its a few extra steps using each of those grades but each step is shorter and the finish is better… no scratches or marks visible at all.
A UV 2pk plastic lacquer is key to the final finish, clarity and longevity

I only had up to 2500, and even then they looked like our old poly tunnel, that is why I used the polisher. The coating I put on does work to a certain extent, but I'll likely finish them off with some lacquer when the weather gets a bit nicer.

Nice job Ben! I have to admit half way through there, it wasn’t looking good. Way to stay with it! Good luck on the inspection!

I was thinking the same at that point, luckily they buffed up quite nicely.

HI Ben - Love the channel - Nice job chap. I'm in the process of doing just that job. Looking for a decent polish as like you I think the supplied stuff it a bit to agressive. What polish did you use? Most I see say not to use in plastic - What do you recon.
    Cheers
    Peter.

I think I used Megiurs finishing compound and then finished it off with a bottle of old turtle wax.

Just changed my nearside lens on my 2006 L322, £78 and 30 mins, chuffed to f**k. The offside was ok bizzarly.

If only the headlights came out of the 2010 facelift model as easily, I would have gone straight for the new lenses. A project for next year perhaps.

I'm afraid your method is somewhat Haphazard for my liking, First I must point out that anyone who can afford to run a Landrover can well afford a proper kit and do it properly!! My suggestion for a novice or someone who a basic understanding DIY, Needs a 3M heavy duty restoration kit, The instructions are fool proof, Provided the said introductions are followed to the letter!! Only three sanding steps you only add water at stage 3, You didn't tape around the headlights first which is a definite no No!! The buffer way to big, The only additional tool needed is a Cordless drill with variable speed, Which is a good investment in its own right, Try to buy this tool with an extra battery!! The other recommendation is after care after washing the car either by hand or car wash, It only takes minutes to dry lens, I use Turtle wax restorer with added UV in the polish, If you have any misgivings as to this kit? There are many TH-cam demonstrations proving this is the number one restoration kit, Meguiars clearcoat is far superior to wipes, One midium to thick coat is all thats needed, Anyways you did a good job on that single headlight 🤔🤩🇬🇧👍
