  • This is how I replaced the cloudy headlight lenses on my facelift 2010 L322 Range Rover. If you're thinking about doing this job on yours, this might help you out.
    The small ratchet that I used is like this one: www.amazon.co.... (I have no affiliation with this seller).

    Well played, sir .. I've tried and (with a donor lamp) failed at this once already .. but next time, I'll be better prepared having watched this.

    What a character! 😀Thanks a lot for such an informative video. I wish you would do the projector upgrade as well. Nice work.

    Awesome video. I'm two days into the project, have cut and cleaned both. About to clean and reassemble.
    Made a cutting tool by sharpening a verandah bolt head and then sticking that to a drill. Not bad if a job of you know what you're getting into. And this video tells you all you need to know.

      Thanks man, I really appreciate the comment. Hope it goes smoothly for you and let us know how you got on and especially if I missed anything. Sometimes the comments hold as much useful information as the videos here and the more people that write about their experiences the more it helps others.

      With temperatures around 25°C my butyl tape was pretty tacky, after setting the sealant and putting the two main pieces together, I placed the headlights in the sun for some minutes, I then used a water pump pliers to press the parts together going around the perimeter. I used the "carbon fibre cloth" to protect the shiny parts from the jaws of the pliers. This worked better than using hands to press the two together. (But I'm sure if an oven is available and you get the parts to 80°C there wouldn't be much pressing required)

    I'm curious how the sealing has held up, More of interest how the new Chinese covers are holding up? I'm worried they will go bad in the sun quickly with perhaps no coating or whatever they say they have? I guess you could spray the new ones in clear two part paint like people do which suposably makes them last forever... Mind you they are that cheap you could put new ones on every year or two.
    I've got the new covers... I am going to be removing the projector bowls though because I believe they need re coating (my driver's side very dim) I found a place to do it but they want pictures of the bowls first to confirm and quote

    Hi mate! Good job and I was very happy to find this video. Currently busy replacing the lenses on mine. A question that came to me after removing the two T10 screws with the small ratchet tool: how do we fasten these again after the insert is fitted into the lens? Greetings from a fellow M539 fan 😁

    • @FatNFurious
      @FatNFurious  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can just use a screwdriver to fit them as there is easy access once the lens is off and the light bucket isn't there to stop you getting to it. It will all make sense when you do it. 👍

      @@FatNFurious Thanks mate! I did it! The new lenses really stand out and make the car look stunning again! It was a very long and frustrating job that got me questioning the necessity of it every minute until I got the new lens fitted. I was happy to find your coverage on this pig of a job!

      @@mikaelangelosgarage I am so pleased to hear this, I still glance at mine whenever I walk towards the front of the car, it was definitely worth the effort in the end. Really glad I was able to help you out.

    I’ve just done mine on my L320 2010.
    It took me all bloody day to remove the lens and clean the channel out. I used an angle grinder to slit it open to the bottom of the glue.
    The 4 corners were an absolute pig to do.
    Today I put the new lens in.
    The mess was terrible, dust everywhere and inside the light itself.
    I hoovered and blew it out till it was clean.
    Fitting it back into the vehicle loads of dust came from nowhere and it looked crap.
    I removed the light again and a bulb and I managed to get most of the crap out.
    So not looking forward to doing the other one 😢😢.
    Not long ago I did my 2008 sport.
    Ten minutes with a heat gun and I broke the seal and they soon came off.

      I know! Everyone will jump on and tell you to "just heat them up" but that's because they've never done the later cars. Good job though, you have to do the other one now of course but it will be quicker the second time.
      I've bought another L322 which I'm procrastinating about doing and the wife's D4 can wait a little while yet too I fell 🙂 Might just have to have a 'headlight day' and get them done.

    Awesome job and very helpfull clip, I think it is the only clip covering the 2010-2012 headlights. What is the black adhesive silicone band called? How should I search for them on ebay? Can you give us a link? Thank you, great job

    • @FatNFurious
      @FatNFurious  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called butyl sealant 6mm x 8mm so you can search for that. I bought this one but it is at least 1.5 rolls too much, it won't go off so I guess I have it for next time (*sighs). www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183695194433?itmmeta=01HPFRHWDPQZP4B8QW17QPPXCG&hash=item2ac5163941:g:l8kAAOSwjexbm67E.

    Why not heat them up first to free the glue, mine worked out better that way without having to cut them off. Also, warm the butyl up for a minute, makes it easier to apply. I baked mine 75 deg c for 6mins to loosen, 8 mins on 75C to reseal.
