@@domofswitch Yes, I was very lucky to land that gig. Larry sounded just as good during his shows as he did on his records. What a singer! It was a good run while it lasted. He was first with Mercury Records and they never promoted him like they should have. He then moved to Columbia Records. Anyway, we played 50 states during that time and did tours with Mel Tillis, Steve Wariner, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Shenandoah, Jim Ed Brown and such, in addition to 4 or 5 appearances on the Opry (I can't remember) and many live and recorded shows on TNN. I was also his road manager, so I was pulling double-duty. lol It's a shame he didn't have more success than he did. He had a great manager (Gene Ferguson), but I guess the record companies didn't see the value in Larry... go figure. An interesting note: Gene Ferguson is the one who discovered singer John Anderson. John was working at a Winn Dixie (supermarket) bagging groceries and was singing as Gene was checking out. The rest is history. Pretty cool.
R Long Jr Wow I've known this song from Larry since it came out back in the day but after all this year's when Tracy Lawrence released how a cowgirl says goodbye I always thought he had copied Larry's getting nowhere getting over you because as soon as I heard it I knew it had the exact same style and here it is just right now by reading the comments I come to find out that Larry boon wrote that's how a cowgirl says goodbye for Tracy Lawrence no wonder it had the same beat .
I played bass in his band. He was fantastic to work with. We had one helluva band. Whew! Good times.
