My name is Candy.. my dad, James Albert Sherman, wrote this song in 1985 for me when my mother moved me to Florida after she had divorced my dad to marry a man who was in the military. Broke my dad's heart. Larry Boone happened to hear my dad playing it on stage in a bar in Mobile, Alabama and fell in love with it. So he bought it and made his only number one hit. Larry Boone sounds very much like my dad too which I love. My daddy passed away in 2004. I can't listen to it without tearing up but, I will always cherish this song because it's a part of him and reminds me how much he loves me. Miss you daddy! Forever....
I love reading comments like this.. My name is Candy and my dad, James Albert Sherman, wrote this song in 1985 when my mom divorced my dad to marry another man who was military. Broke my dad's heart and he wrote this song to express it. He was a guitar player too and Larry Boone bought it from him when he heard my dad singing it on stage in a bar in Mobile, Alabama. Thank you for your comment. Made me smile!
@@candancesherman282 Thank you, Candance for telling me the story behind this song. It will forever change the way I listen to it. May your Dad rest in peace. Once again, Thank You!
@@karenminyard517 Absolutely! It's a sad love story with a tragic ending. I still cry listening to it. It really is a beautiful song written with heart.
iTunes has a couple of his albums but not this one or this song. I was about 15 when this came out and heard it on American country countdown with bob Kingsley. Someone needs to talk to iTunes lol!
PURE COUNTRY GOLD!!...Thank you soooo very much for posting and sharing this "rarely heard anymore" lil' country gem that peaked at #10 on the charts for Larry back in September 1988...I thoroughly enjoyed it!...and the sound quality is FANTASTIC too!...Take Care!! Ms. Elizabeth 📻🎶🎧📻🎶🎧
I looked for this song for a long time I didn't know the artist. I think I always thought it was John Schneider. It is a beautiful song sadly didn't get enough play time on the radio in 88
Heartbreaking story to go with one of the great wordplay titles of all time. This guy also sounds amazingly like early 1970s Bocephus as well. Terrific effort by Larry Boone all around.B.W.
Decent-sounding song! I’ve never heard it till now. Also, I probably should’ve realized in the first chorus, but I’d say that just before the beginning of the second verse, I realized that Candy is the name of the girl.
I'm that Candy. My dad wrote this in 1985 when my mom left him for a military man and moved me to Florida..broke my daddy's heart to be taken from him. Larry Boone happened into the bar one evening when my dad was singing it on stage and he fell in love with it and bought it from him. I lost my dad In 2001. Larry Boone sounds just like my dad too which I love. He truly brought justice to my dad's words. I very much love reading all the lovely comments and seeing how much people enjoy it.
That's a great song. Why doesn't he get any airplay. I just heard him on Save Country Music on FB and had to come over to TH-cam to hear so more of his music. He is so good I just don't understand today's record producers out there today. This is good country music. There really are lots of us out in the real world that love to listen to good country music.
Funfact: this song was actually written by my biological grandfather. He sadly never knew how to get credit for it, and he died from being an alcoholic. My mother was a child around this time and she plays it whenever she's cleaning or working on on a project. No i will not release names or further details about what happened between them, i don't know if my grandma would be okay with it or not. Its part of her story not mine. So sorry guys, not actually written from larry boone. He just sung it 😊
My dad actually wrote this one in 1985, James Sherman. My name is Candy. Yeah, that Candy. My mom divorced my dad to marry a guy in the military and broke my dad's heart when she moved me to Florida from Alabama. Larry Boone happened to hear my dad singing it in a bar and fell in love with it so, he bought it from him. My dad passed years ago and I love that I will always have this from him! I'm happy everyone enjoys it so much. Warms my heart.

A Saturday riding with my grandmother in the car going to the grocery store. Knew all the words to this song. Brings me back to the 1980’s.
My daughter's name is Candyce and i used to sing this to her mom.

Oh wow. I hadn’t heard this is so so long. I love this song. Brings me back to when I was a kid.

Agreed....the 80's and 90's were filled with great country. And a lot of them are all but forgotten. This is a great song. Thank God for TH-cam.
I REMEMBER hearing this song on country radio in L.A. when it came out. The only song of his I had heard before now.
Come back larry!
Sounds wonderful
Fine....just fine!
I'm going to play this song tomorrow morning 06-07-19 on our radio station Boss Hogg Radio facebook.com/BossHoggRadio/

Another great artist that got robbed of his career because of radio Programmers that had no clue what good country music was
