The 'weird' pattern in the combustion chamber of the new cylinder are from the cylinder wall plating process.Nikasil basically explodes a nickle composite wire with high voltage and this plates the bore, then it is machined to size.
Love the content. Husqvarna (Redmax owner) redesigned the fan to eliminate those inserts from coming loose. Watching you rebuild one of these things was worth it's weight in gold. The majority of the oil/dirt near the bottom of the engine and volute comes from the base gasket failure points. Also, the oil on the bottom of the intake tube is normal due to the oiling system design. Keep it up !!
My son-in-law got a free leaf blower once because the fan was loose and the person who owned it thought it had a rod knocking my son -in -law put some washers on it and different bolts and it worked fine.
All that oil all over the blower made me think the nebulizer wasn't flambulating correctly. Oh, and the extra washers, as you determined. Thanks for a good one, Mustie!
I was thinking this as well but that was a ton of oil. Maybe it has been laying on its side a little while waiting for the Mustie1 fix and a bunch of premix did get dumped into the tube and the gas evaporated from the oil. I dont see how that much could get in there from blow back alone. Who knows i guess.
@@warrenmichael918 The whole engine was layered in dirty oil though, more like a long standing problem and not a single incident. But it could have been happening because they are storing in the trailer they use to get to their jobs and they've been storing it wrong habitually.

This one really exposes the inner-workings of Mustie's mind. I would automatically expect the worst that it was bottom end. I would never think, fan. And then, as he's working on the wrist pin, he uses a pinch-off pliers to hold the connecting rod. This is like watching Paul over a Gearbox tv. Sometimes it's not always about the repair. It's how they position the work to do the repair. True craftsman, indeed.
Educational video to say the least. MOST people would presume it was the bottom end as well and the blower would soon be on the scrap heap, even among those who would attempt a repair anyway. The repairers are 1-10% of the population. The rest exist in the "if-it-doesn't-work-throw-it-away" crowd.
@Hjerte_Verke . Not like when I was a kid. We fixed everything unless it truly was scrap and then we'd salvage everthing that could be useful. Especially hardware. My Gramps had 5 sheds with 2 of them for salvaged bicycle hardware and 1 for frames and frame parts. 1 for chains, sprockets, brakes and other frame mounted parts. The last one his shop. In Flint Michigan walking distance to the AC Spark plug factory. Every kid for a mile around would bring their bikes to him to be repaired and modified. He'd build them from parts including neat boy or girl paint jobs and sell them autographed. I wonder how many of them were passed down and still exist.
Seen the issue of the fan starting to make more and more noise before. Used a 2 part plastic filler/glue to fix the slop on that one. I do like the fiber rings as a fix tho, much easier and less mess. The oil in the intake is also something i see often, the fuel evaporates but the oil stays behind and pools at the botom. Often due to storing a machine on its side and over time the fuelmix seeps through the carb.
I am a huge Echo backpack blower fan (pun intended)😂. They are extremely serviceable and built for a lifetime of abuse. Little things, like how all the hardware uses the same driver is the kind of thing that makes maintenance and service doable. I have thousands of hours on my PB8010 and don’t ever want anything else. Best investment in equipment I’ve ever made.
From his teardown, I'm not surprised, it looks well built, the top end didn't seem too bad considering, I would maybe have changed the front seal and made an attempt at a better fix for the fan but I'm splitting hairs.
Had an older Red Max backpack blower and it was very useful. The Walbro carb gave up the ghost and was NLA, nothing could be found to make it work. Leaf season waits for no carb and I replaced the blower. Reminds me I've still got several hours of leaf work to do today. It is a yearly necessity and challenge getting them picked up prior to any snowfall.
They are so loud and im not sure they are that much more efficient than raking at least time wise. Seems every time we go to Pickwick lake all the rich folks that live on the water are running them all day long.
@@rhinovirus2225 Aside from corners, yeah. And way cheaper to run. And lighter to carry. And less maintenance. Blowing grass and dirt off paths is the only real use case I can see for these things.
