I got my model Y long range a year and a half ago. I added the performance upgrade as soon as I got home from picking it up. It’s so worth it. It’s like having a high-performance multi use vehicle. 39K miles no issues. It’s like a dream. I drive a lot so it really matters to me. Saving hundreds per month vs our Prius, that’s how good Teslas are.

The blue with white interior is my favorite match, I only wish for the light wood accents instead of the plain white ones, and maybe , blue accents in the interior, either by the stitches, and some other areas , what I really wish though , is for tesla to make a two level sun roof cover , one with a mesh (P.S. I also wish some door window mesh covers that come from top to bottom along the window and push against the door plastic to have a seal, for areas that have loads of bugs like mosquitoes or other small and annoying or maybe even harmful things like wasps or Australian critters.) and a reflective top with insulated bottom full top cover above the mesh that is made to reflect the light and heat and not trap it, I wish for them to make it automated for performance by default, but to be able to pay like $500 for the motorized version in the long range versions of Y and 3.

  • @darrenkellett

That is a more accurate video about the performance boost. You don’t have to reply when I say, I watched the CarWow video with your download of the boost on your car but after the download, when he went into the settings, it was in chill mode, but if you had raced in standard mode it would have been in sport mode. Anyway the video was effective and will probably encourage some to buy the upgrade 👍.
Just a side note, I have a model y long range, which I received a few weeks after you and I had a BMW 3-Series in that light flat blue pull up next to me and start revving with popping and banging going on. I’m always in chill mode but I couldn’t resist the challenge so I quickly changed to standard mode and hit the pedal when the lights turned green. I heard him go for it with the engine screaming and popping as his auto box changed gear but it got quieter and quieter, I didn’t just beat him, I annihilated him. At the next lights he pulled along side of me with his passenger window down so I wound mine down, he asked “is that one of those model 3 performance Tesla’s” when I told him “ no, it’s a model y long range” he said “f**k me that’s f**king quick”. The BMW 3 didn’t have any badges on the back but wasn’t very old so I’m not sure if it was an M3 or not. My point is if your car was in standard mode on the first run I’m sure it would’ve beaten the Porsche Macan GTS off the line even if it didn’t beat it to the finish, it would’ve been a lot closer. Am I right? You don’t have to answer. 😂😂😂

    • @RSEV
      @RSEV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It WAS in standard. Certainly not chill. That was just an overlay shot to show how the mode name changed from standard to sport.

We bought our Model 3 LR in March last year. So quick! Then I saw a TH-cam video of the difference the performance upgrade makes. I knew I was going to buy it, even as I told myself (and anyone who would listen) there’s no way the car needs it. Sure enough, I did. Immediate and obvious change. It was a no brainer. Spend the same amount on a performance boost to an ICE car and what difference will it make?
Hitting the upgrade during the daytime just brought forward the inevitable - I would have done it late at night after a couple of glasses of red anyway...

I've seen several videos looking at this. What I've gathered is that the added boost is primarily in the lower speed ranges. After the initial jump, the difference in acceleration levels off to negligible. I've seen similar results comparing LR vs the Performance. Almost all of the difference in 1/4 mile times vs the LR is gained in the initial 0-60mph portion of the race. No real gain beyond that. Whether you'll notice a difference in range apparently depends to a large extent on how you drive. If you are accelerating hard from starts, your range will diminish, and a bit more so if you have the boost.

I suppose it is a nice addon feature, but unless I am going to drag race my buddies, Impress my friends, or go to a drag strip, what is the sense to having this little extra hp to do 4.2 seconds in 0-60 mph. If I wanted to do this I would of bought a Plaid S model. Now there is some Accel. speeds.
Being retired, I just drive around town and not on any major freeways, etc anymore. What, am I going to screech away on every stop light??? I don't think so unless you want to buy allot of tires all the time.
Isn't the stock setup fast enough with 4.8 seconds in 0 to 60 mph??? Also stock top speed is 130 mph ( battery drainer speeds).
So how about the top end speed with the Accel. Boost. Is the vehicle any faster than 130 mph with the boost????

Another excellent video - great that you can compare the cars side by side. On the CarWow video, it seemed to me that the performance boost on the Black Model Y really kicked in a few seconds after launch. You then saw it pull away from Yianni's car. My M3P would have left the Macan behind from the start. Do you think that the power curve is a little different with the upgrade or does it just come down to the additional weight of the Y?

It can do 4.8 seconds, literally dozens of tests right on here with it hitting that time. The model 3 LR has done 4.1 seconds and I believe 4.0 seconds with motor trend so not sure why these tiles are a little slow. Conditions I guess

AB just finishes off my Y. I totally agree the AB works well when combined with the suspension, makes me think the suspension was designed for the performance of the AB long range Y. My understanding is that the rolling pick up, 30mph plus is very similar to the performance, it certainly feels well quick! Can't quite get off the line as quick as a Y performance as the performance has bigger drive motors.

    Awesome video as always Richard!
I asked the service center last year about to uncork my RWD 2016 facelift S70 and they sent me a £600 quote. They would release 5kw battery capacity and would unlock the full potential of the motor.
An extra 20milles range and a little bit faster acceleration was not worth for me (as the model S is pretty fast anyway) but probably there are plenty of people who are happy to go for it. To pay £1500 for a sport mode for Model Y? If it’s really makes the car as fast as a performance version, I think it’s worth it!
