It's actually a pretty nice strategy. There is not a word on the Tesla web site about this upgrade, because they obviously want you to consider the M3P. But after you purchased the M3LR, you showed that you were not willing to shell out $8k extra for the entire performance package, so how about going halfway to the M3P in pure acceleration for $2k? Some of those (us) that were not willing to pay the extra $8k for the M3P might very well pay $2k for the Acceleration Boost upgrade, and Tesla gets some extra cash.

Also great for countries where m3p is 20k more over the LR. Here is a 3k upgrade which is pretty good value.

    • @slickmastajay
      @slickmastajay ปีที่แล้ว

@crainger I mean for efficiency all you gotta do is make sure the aftermarket wheels weigh the same or less than LR stock wheels. $8k for the performance is not bad at all actually because if you were to get an aftermarket big brake kit, aftermarket suspension, wheels n tires, and acceleration boost option it would cost nearly $8k and you lose factory warranty on those parts

I don’t know if a 100kwh battery is needed, but a 90kwh battery would be perfect. It wouldn’t be as much weight, while still adding ~100hp and torque. Also range would increase to 375 or so. Lastly acceleration times would be mid 2s and quarter miles in mid 10s which would be perfect. A 100kwh battery will get you 400+ miles of range and low 10s in the quarter mile, but it would add more weight which isn’t necessary or beneficial, cuz it might weight close to 4300 pounds, instead of 4100 or so with a 90kwh. Also a stiffer suspension, or air suspension is a must.

100kwh battery for Model 3 doesn't necessarily mean more weight. Its been a couple years and the battery cocktail may have improved significantly the energy density for each battery. Same number of batteries but each battery will hold more juice. Insignificant weight change. They just need to make sure the motors and powertrain can handle that much more juice and torque so there might be some improvement to individual components.

Unless you want to take it on the track and race it the performance model is not worth having with the tyre problems and hard suspension and cost of tyres!! The $2k upgrade is sweeter. I have really noticed the jump in the acceleration with the boost. The Long Range with the boost is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. In NZ now they’re not offering the LR any more. That’s a pity

Great channel always straight to the point and then to the discussion. I think Tesla have again made a perfect move to keep their reputation up there. For $2000 if you want move performance on the long range 3 its a great deal. You can envisage other performance upgrade paths such as Ludicrous 3 maybe at the same time as Plaid S to keep the product placement gaps but its win, win, win ! I bought a P85 MS in 2014 and soon after came the duel motor, so you feel a bit like you should have waited but then Tesal upgraded the P85 and you soon forget anyway and think hell they are all brilliant. I think Tesla listen to owners and if there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction or need they respond with upgrades or offers. Why wouldn't they? Everyone wins. And to my mind they also update the charging algorithms tweaking the performance / charging characteristics of the battery. Tesla have the data and the technology to continuously improve the ownership experience even years after purchase, no wonder we love these cars every time we drive them, even 5 years later.

A $2,000 upgrade boosted it too easily and now the P3D needs to be a 2.6-7 second car to 60 mph to counterbalance the hierarchy. A Launch mode would be awesome! No, the cars aren't too close. The Performance model isn't just about the straight line power. You can get an LT1 V8 in a base model Camaro, or you can get that same engine in an SS. The SS comes with better suspension, brakes, etc. The 3 Performance is no different.

Thanks for video. I have a long range, dual motor Model 3 and I just got the $2000 performance upgrade yesterday. I noticed a seat of the pants difference on the first drive. But, I had no idea that it would put my Model 3 down into the 3.5 range in the 0 to 60 and into the high 11's in the quarter mile. Money well spent. Anybody who has modified or "tuned" a gasoline powered car, knows that the first $2000 usually goes towards intake and exhaust, but rarely buys you this sort of dramatic performance increase. Also, I have a feeling that Tesla will be rolling out a ludicrous mode Model 3 before too long.

dumas1012 If it only was that easy. Performance models have a weird stepped hub. What I would like to see is large barrel aftermarket 18”s that fit on M3P w/ big brakes ***with smaller diameter tires***. I know some of these lighter aftermarket wheels are already available, but I’m curious about the gearing advantage. Does it make sense to give up some of your 162mph top speed to get slightly lower gearing? Or is the car already traction limited from 0-40 mph so a taller tire makes more sense for a higher 1/4 mile trap speed? The first thing Model Y owners will probably try is bolting on smaller diameter Model 3 wheels & tires.

Which wheel/tire package is on your buddy's dual motor sport, 19 or 20 inch? I wonder if the 18 inch package would even be a bit quicker. The 18's weigh 47# per corner. I have heard that the 19 and 20 inch weigh more.

The AWD+ has the 19" Wheels.

19” wheels would be lighter and more aerodynamic than the 20”, could be one of the reasons these were so close?

@@greghagen6711 I've tried aftermarket staggered 20" wheels and tires on my long range, dual motor Model 3. The loss of power and range was noticable. The handling was better and the look was superb. But I went back to the 18' without the aero caps for the best balance of looks and performance. I'm wondering if anyone in this thread has tried 18's on a P3D?

Lance LaCour I have a P3D and debating on whether to go with 18” or 19” wheels for winter tires. I’ve seen a lot of information saying the smaller the better but not sure if I like the looks of the smaller wheels. Thanks for the feedback.

It looks like difference between the original Roadster normal 3.9 versus Sport 3.7 - it's all in the takeoff. The power is the same but the point at which full power begins is a lot lower at takeoff with the original Roadster Sport - the sport firmware anticipated wider tires. In this case it looks like the performance firmware launches more quickly as the suspension and tires are expected to be there to handle it.

They boosted 0-60, but still not as much as the performance model.
      I discuss it here:
I tested the boost upgrade before/after, getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with the dragy.
I also extrapolate times for different states of charge, based on previous data.
I then do a full analysis of the better times and discuss how this is not the same as getting a full 5% HP increase and whether it is worth the money.

The M3P will be getting a code rewrite soon for a Ludicrous-style launch boost with better top end speed. Similar to the Acceleration Boost in the LR.

Are the motors the same? If so you could get a long range and do suspension and brake upgrades.

I have that boost option. Pretty quick ride now.
How do the speeds change with the different size rims? Or if it is the same over all diameter tire size.
Amazon sent me the performance badge, and I bought the spoiler, pedals, and caliper covers for that performance look. I purchased those chrome wheel covers and chrome lug nuts as well.
It's a decent commuter car. I hope one day the fSD works correctly.

Yes, the Jan Brady version got a BUNCH of horsepower. But the Marsha Brady version is probably going to get a lot faster after its Brady Boost. The RWD Cindy will be a drift machine after it’s boost. Not sure what to call the SR+....what was the name of the Brady dog?
