    One of the best explanation video about basal ganglia I have seen in TH-cam till date....simple, clear, concise, descriptive.
    It especially gives confident for the viewers that they gained some knowledge about basal ganglia without confusions...keep it up✌✌

    These are some of the best neuroscience videos on youtube. Good speed, through explanation, and EXACTLY the proper amount of depth for someone studying. Many videos are too "overview" or too stuck in the minutiae. Please make one about neuroanatomy of attention!

    Thank you, this helped a lot! Could you comment on the role of acetylcholine on the basal ganglia? Antipsychotics block dopamine-receptors in the striatum causing parkinsonism. Anticholinergics release these symptoms (at least partially). How do the acetylcholine-neurons integrate in this model?

    • @PeterDewMedia
      @PeterDewMedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am prescribed Procyclidine, it is an anticholinergic, a great drug which acts on the acetylcholine system of the brain. I know that acetylcholine is an important neurotransmitter, the effect of this drug is not only alleviation of any side effects but also a really good boost in mood especially if the person taking it were really depressed. It's not used in the NHS or in the world as an anti-depressant but I think it's a really good chemical and would be perfect for cheering people up who were feeling sad, or feeling demotivated. It's not safe to overdose, it's non addictive when taken at safe dosages I have found myself, I take a dose of 10mgs a day and then, even if life can be depressing, I am still reasonably happy. Not all of the anticholinergic drugs boost mood, but Procyclidine seems to do it quickly and very effectively.

    When we are considering an indirect pathway without the involvement of DA, the cortex is exciting the Striatum and following on from here we will eventually get to inhibition of the Cortex =withold movement. However, using the D2R in the Striatum, you start by inhibited the Straitum so, shouldn't the final outcome be opposite of excitation of Stratum i.e you end up exciting the cortex = movement initiated for the Indirect direct pathway involving D2R. Can you explain this?
