To this day, this is still our biggest sense of pride. Being a team able to shock big time when others least expect it. And the 09/10 campaign is still our most successful season ever. To be able to take on powerhouse European clubs until the final is still mind boggling to even think about now. People around the world mock others for the clubs they support because they haven't won trophies. As if that was all there was to a club's story. In truth, those people never dug into the history and even how said club is doing now. I got mocked at school for wearing a Fulham beanie during winter. But, those people don't look at Fulham and think: "Oooh, Fulham. Not a bad team this season, maybe they could make another European charge."abut instead think "No trophies? Pathetic." which makes me sad. That's the only reason why I typed this far. I'm sad. I'm sad because people who don't properly know extensive knowledge of this sport go on to mock other smaller teams because they're trash even when they're experiencing success in the concurrent season. They think they know the sport, but they don't. The only reason these people mock other smaller teams is because they support the big fish like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, even Chelsea who've won a good amount of trophies. Chelsea I can understand for local reasons, but to compare significantly smaller teams against your significantly bigger one on the basis of how many trophies each team has won, it's not fair. If you're gonna mock, I would say: put actual thought into it. How are they doing that season? Are they in Europe? If so, how are they? How are they doing domestically? etc etc. At that point, you're then less mocking but more so making a fair statement and ranking of other team. For example, I hate United. I find their fanbase annoying as hell trying to flex their trophies and crap. (except for the "Glazers Out" brigade. Trying to preserve and save your own club and even this sport. Great cause.) And I can say that they're worse because in addition to having just beat them at Old Trafford as I'm typing this, they've been doing terribly with such an all over the place squad. No player seems to have any real motivation. It's like a body just being forced to move. They're not doing good and they're too reliant on their individuals. So, I have, to some extent, the right to say United are terrible. A Chelsea fan meanwhile, talking scrap about Fulham, my guy, you're basically even, barely higher up the table or worse than us. You don't talk about stuff you can't do. And that's what this video helps tell you. History. The pain and suffering a certain small club have had to face. Let me clear this up. As a big club, there is an expectation for you to end up at a top half or top spot. For a small team, it's not expected for them to do particularly well. Thus, fairytale moments like these are ones that live long in the memory and serve to fans and players everyday a reminder of why they play in the colours they bear, the badge they carry. We are all human. We can like what we like. But why is it when we talk about preferences like these, we can become so inhuman? The sport is not life. In the end, mainly, it's entertainment. Arguing over your favourite clubs is like fighting over which Dorito flavour is better. You choose one you like, and then you stick with it. That's sport in an oversimplified view. So why do we still have hooliganism and public mockery and that stuff? It's just someone's personal preference. You don't have to comment on it. Yet, you still comment on it in the most inhuman way possible. Why?
I know I didn't mention cultures so it's not like Doritos. But listen. First, be realistic. No one's gonna read this long ahh thing. Second, some people choose a team to watch amd just start supporting them. Overtime they start growing attached to the club and start to realise what everyone else who supports the club does lime chants and all that. It's kinda like Doritos. You find a flavour, you like it, you stick with it. And then you find other people who like it and then find out it's best to dip it in (insert item here). And then whether you like it or not, you either do it every time you eat said Dorito flavour, or you just eat Doritos on their own.
Man i was at that Hamburg game. And i remember Fulham being behind and the whole stadium broke in to a "stand up if you still believe" chant. It was such a moment of inspiration and such a magical night at the Cottage
When an underdog team reaches a high like that, the fans have more hope than ever knowing that even if they lose, they made history. Fulham did just that.
I was at the Shaktar game, 15 years old, my first and only European game. That whole season was magical, I was the envy of all my friends that my boys had reached a Euro final and them all, supporting Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and especially Chelsea hadn’t. 2009-10 season I will never forget, a part of my childhood and how I always look back whenever I think of the good times
Even as a non Fulham supporter you should be able to appreciate this season by them and feel heart broken at the end. This was one of the most spectacular seasons by a team ever and reminds me of Ajax a few years ago.
@@robbieh2458 like Ajax No one expected them to slap Juve n Madrid and to go to the SF It was a huge surprise Fulham reach the final considering the hard path they come through
As an Inter Milan fan, I still remember that 4-1 comeback against Zaccheroni's Juventus, especially that magnificent chip. It was kind of the low point of the season for the bianconeri, much to our delight: we were on our way to the treble... Also, Roy Hodgson coached Inter in the mid-1990s: he's mostly remembered for not appreciating Roberto Carlos (!) and letting management trade him to Real Madrid, as well as losing a Uefa Cup final (when he had a spat with J. Zanetti, of all people...), but we knew he was a gentleman. Cheers :)
This is the reason why I say Clint Dempsey is still the American GOAT. Dude was electric at his very best. One of the top scorers in the Prem for a couple seasons. And he was built for big moments. Class player
When wearing and playing for the United States jersey, Landon Donovan is the GOAT. Landon Donovan still holds the record for most goals scored in the world cup from the CONCACAF region. He is also the only CONCACAF player to win the best young player award in the world cup.
@@eliasescobar326aint no way you just said Pulisic has surpassed them 💀💀💀 I like Pulisic, I think he got a lot of undue criticism at Chelsea and was a victim of their system but in what world is he better than Donovan or Dempsey? They’re miles clear

Hey, we're still on the hunt for our first major trophy, but... that campaign was magical. That is our biggest achievement thus far. That is our trophy.
He was a Great manager? I have never felt so insulted before to hear that. Good manager he is, definitely not great and he never is. Just had one wonder season with Fulham and the rest is bang average. His career with Liverpool was the biggest joke ever in English football and the rest is history.
You do know what great means right? You’re calling Roy Hodgson one of the greats of football management? Put down the can of beer and get yourself off to bed mate.
Wow, I remember a lot of these goals. Now I remember I started following Fulham's journey that specific season. What a wonderful team they had. When football was real.
Imagine it happening today...Amazon Prime would be fighting for those footage. I watched most of the matches because John Paintsil, a Ghanaian was a member of the squad. My friend and I who watched the final at his grandpa's house were very very sad that Fulham didn't win. Now my friend is married with three kids and funny enough I'm not even married not to mention having kids. Paintsil is now a coach and an occasional pundit over here.

As a Hamburg fan, the lost in the semi final was one of the biggest painful moments in recent years, along with the descend. The final would even have been in hamburg

Ich als Wolfsburg Fan kann mich noch ans Viertelfinale erinnern, das war für uns eine Chaos Saison nach der Entlassung von Veh obwohl wir einige gute Spieler wie Dzeko, Grafite und Misimovic hatten.
Omg, what a Fulham was brilliant! I remember this guys. What a season. Schwarzer, Hengelaand, Konchesky, Etuhu, Riise, Murphy, Hughes, Zamora, Kamara, Duff, Dempsey, Davies, Smalling, Gera, Nevland (haha), Greening.
Just wanted to say I really enjoy the clean edits/content on this channel. No annoying EDM background music or heavy color edits, just simply focusing on Football.
This is and probably will be my greatest memory as a Fulham Fan. Watching the games live was so good. I was the only FUlham fan in my school My school friends, some of my classmates and teachers were wishing Fulham (me) good luck in the final. Still feel the heartbreak of the final but loved every part of this run. Would love to see us somehow pull it off again in the future
Let's take a moment to also appreciate Zoltán Gera. This was probably his finest season; and it's no wonder he was called "The Magic Magyar" during his time playing in the PL
Zamora was underrated IMO. He was one of those types of forwards that drew defenders leaving space for others and he could finish. Helluva of a player.
I remember following this when I was younger and fell in love with this Fulham team and their journey. These highlights show what a good side Hodgson actually had at this point. Zamora was on fire, Gera always dangerous, plenty of experience from Murphy, Davies and Duff. Dempsey off the bench (mad) and a criminally under rated Schwarzer in goal.

Love seeing the journey of the runner-up lesser-known clubs to the Final of a tournament. Getting to a final is not an easy task. Kudos to all runner-up lesser-known clubs who made it. 👏
Life was good during that era. We had good players, Clint Dempsey, Gera, Davies, heck, I could even count "unique personality" Jimmy Bullard a golden Fulham player because personality. Also, 6 goals in 39 appearances as a midfielder, not that bad. Appropriate sponsor lol
Only 2 years before this they were nearly relegated, were in the relegation zone nearly all season & as things stood were relegated in game 36 of 38 they needed to win away from 2-0 down with only 20mins remaining vs ManCity and then win their final 2 games afterwards as well so 9pts from a possible 9 in their final 3 games, 12 out of a possible 15 in their last 4 so in their last 4 games they got exactly 1/3 of their overall tally to complete the great escape. The following season they were much better and again got the best they could hope for, 10 places higher thus European qualification. This 2009/10 season they couldn't have performed any better in Europe vs many quality teams it would've been amazing had they won vs a stacked AtleticoMadrid & it was close but a European final is still a great achievement & would've been impossible to achieve if they had got relegated 2 years earlier. This is a club who've never won a trophy in their history. Following 2 seasons in a row they finished top half until Dempsey left.
I remember watching Fulham’s run on this Europa league. Honestly, it felt just right. In the way that when a European night game was hosted at Craven Cottage, it just felt right for some reason. It’s like this particular pitch was made for such an old competition
What a time this was as a Fulham fan... Still great to watch this back. An amazing run and just wasn't to be in the end...Hodgson had a great squad back then and this was almost the ultimate underdog story... almost 😢

Here one of the teams in the group was CSKA. Nowadays, except for our champion Ludogorets, we don't have any other regular participant in the group stages in Europe, so although I was only 4 back then and I didn't watch football at that time, it feels good to see CSKA being in the group stage. Also, my beloved Atletico won their first major European trophy that seson, so although I didn't even watch football at that time, this 2009/10 Europa League is still very special for me.
I love 2 UEFA play-off's, one of them 2010 with fulham, and second 2006 with middlesbrough. Nice and bright tournaments, where underdogs going to finals.
That goal vs roma at the end was brutal for the goalie. He was standing on his head in there and his defender stands right in front of him and heads it into his own goal. Didnt even get a chance at it.
Fun coincidence how many Norwegians feature in this. Hangeland scoring, One Riise brother getting a penalty and the other getting an assist. Nevland getting sent off. Fascinating as there aren’t many Norwegians at that level
Such a good marching. When the final came, i saw Agüero and Forlán i instantly knew, they have more chance to win. But still, Fulham did 110%, and their FANS, also. Even they were second, but hey, not many smaller english club reached this result.

Hamburg through by away goals, if the last attack of HSV taking a goal
I was at the Shaktar game, 15 years old, my first and only European game. That whole season was magical, I was the envy of all my friends that my boys had reached a Euro final and them all, supporting Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and especially Chelsea hadn’t. 2009-10 season I will never forget, a part of my childhood and how I always look back whenever I think of the good times
Even as a non Fulham supporter you should be able to appreciate this season by them and feel heart broken at the end. This was one of the most spectacular seasons by a team ever and reminds me of Ajax a few years ago.
What 😂

My fav player for Fulham till today is Zoltan Gera. What a player with technique.

Greatest Fulham team I have seen. What an amazing run for Fulham
Cheers :)
hodgson è uno degli allenatori più scarsi e miracolati allo stesso tempo

@@Trancymindthey’re two fringe Bundesliga or premier league players. Maybe a strong bench option in Dempsey vs a consistent starter in the series a for pulisic. I don’t think pulisic might be a product of more attention to the game, better training and more opportunity, but he’s a better player.

Urgh, in tears watching that. Best night of supporting Fulham ever.
Wow, I remember a lot of these goals. Now I remember I started following Fulham's journey that specific season. What a wonderful team they had. When football was real.
What a sensational video, it's always boggled mind the club never released a DVD Or anything specifically about this journey. The time of our lives.
To those who diss the UEL, just look how much it’s means to these fans or any other underdogs.
Plenty of competition to go around
I would watch the UEL any day over the UCL just to hear the fans roar.
100% agree as a newcastle fan we had good run back in the 2012 season almost to the finals if cisse was onside and that still feels more magical then use in the ucl maybe that was because i was 13 when we played it back then and its nostilgia tho
Man I remember this like it was yesterday it was so crazy seeing giants like juventus at craven cottage & FULHAM playing at these stadiums too ! That juventus 2nd leg was one of the craziest games I can remember watching
Do one for Middlesbrough in 2006. Came from 3-0 down on aggregate in the second legs of both the quarter final and semi final. Was insane.
I still hate Maccarone to this day…

God, that feeling when Forlan scored... Was the first and only time I cried watching a game of football.

That year my team won UCL as i'm an Inter fan, but i followed the whole Fulham path to the Uefa Cup final, watching every match with my grandpa. We were both disappointed that they lost in the end, but it was a fun ride, great team.
That Dempsey shot...I still debate to this day if that was intentional or not, because man what a shot
So many legends in that fulham team. Never experienced football like that
De Gea and the near post goals, match made in heaven!
As a Hamburg fan, the lost in the semi final was one of the biggest painful moments in recent years, along with the descend. The final would even have been in hamburg
Omg, what a Fulham was brilliant! I remember this guys. What a season. Schwarzer, Hengelaand, Konchesky, Etuhu, Riise, Murphy, Hughes, Zamora, Kamara, Duff, Dempsey, Davies, Smalling, Gera, Nevland (haha), Greening.

three touch for goal vs shaktar is amazing, unforgettable season for fulham. The only english team which could reach european final in 2010.
What a win against Juventus and what a goal from Dempsey
Gera=hungarian legend❤

Think my favourite thing about this team is they played like one everyone did their job and it was a team filled with a lot of underrated players
As their shirt logo (LG) says, life's good for Fulham back then.
