      I suffer from man made dreams for the last 20 years...
      90% of dreams are man made by electricity. Here are the values:
      The frequency in Hertz of the dreams are around 300Mhz for the high and around 7 hz for the low value.
      The electric field values on my sleeping bed of each dream range from 40-70 v/m a set of 4 or 5 values before the peak which can be usually around 120 V/m and can go up to 400 V/m if the want to wake you up or shake your heart.
      Especially if you have excess toxic conductive metals like silver or copper.

    Practically speaking, how is external light applied to these receptors within the brain?

    • @MrSwaggernaut83

      I think moreso the technique is useful for research and understanding the way the brain works, which can then be applied otherwise for practical applications.

      Through a very small fiber optic cable. There’s a light source and a pulse monitor that sends pulses of light into focal brain regions

    • @RenéRiedel-n2h
      @RenéRiedel-n2h ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually one of the main problems with these techniques. Same for photothermal cancer therapy: you bring molecules/nanoparticles into the region where they should be destructive/applied (ROI), then you activate them with light. However, light doesn't simply go all the way through bones and tissue without at least affecting other parts that are not in ROI. What you can do is getting as close as possible while avoiding destruction as good as possible, eg by optical fibre technique, or/ and trying to switch to a wavelength in the biological window (meaning where biological molecules absorb less). The latter could be difficult here for optogenetics. Another approach is to use magnetic fields instead of light, which would also be difficult here. Well, but good question.

    • @chuggyy
      @chuggyy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@njhuffman The brain is functionally localized. That essentially means that one area of the brain executes a specific function. That function may be chained together with other areas/functions in order to facilitate more complex behaviour (requiring multiple steps), but that particular part of the brain that executes that function is specialized for that alone. (There is some capacity for adjacent regions to compensate for lost function in the event of trauma, but this is limited).
      The whole notion that you "only use 10% of your brain" is false. You may find that that is the typical amount of neuronal activity on average across a sufficient interval, but that doesn't mean you have this potential mental horsepower locked away just waiting to be used. The other 90% is just highly specialized circuitry that is used to facilitate other functions when it is needed.
      Take this for example. There are circuits in the brain which sole purpose is to initiate a fear response in the presence of certain stimuli. That is all it does. For instance, your eye captures light, transduces that into a signal that it can send to the occipital lobes, that signal goes through many different regions of the visual cortex that refines/interprets that information and relays it to still more portions of the brain that are more in control of behaviour. If a shape that looks like a snake enters your visual field unexpectedly, that signal will likely be sent to a portion of the brain which sole function is to cause fear. This motivates you to move away from the snake, thus protecting you, but it also creates a very unpleasant sensation; in fact it is that sensation that makes you flee.
      If you took a person and were able to turn that circuit on arbitrarily, without the typical environmental factors that might illicit such a response, that has incredibly severe implications. You would be able to make someone experience paralyzing, crippling fear for absolutely no reason, possibly indefinitely.
      Now, again there are many circuits that control many specific functions. If you turned every single one of them on all at once it would be a catastrophe. Would you experience pain, pleasure, fear, sorrow, wonder, sadness, joy... everything all at once? Your senses would not function properly, it would be a psychedelic trip from Hell. Imagine; you shit, cum, clench, seize, and writhe in chaotic torment and ecstasy and probably expire at the end of it. Conjecture of course, as it's never been done, but interesting to ponder.

    I’m currently studying neuroscience and I just for the first time discovered what optogenetics is and I’m just mindblown at how creative and smart of an idea this is and how many possibilities there are with this. There’s a lot of dumb shit humans do, but then there’s humans that quite literally use their brain to understand the very cells that exist in our brains and modify them. Does that ever just blow anyone’s minds? That being the most evolved species on the planet means you can have consciousness of what is happening in your own brain and how to repair it

    • @njhuffman

Only their corporate buddies get the "repair it" focus while the rest of us get the turn them off or whatever else they have in mind to absolutely control and manipulate as many people as they can to do what they want when they want it...

      @@noelaremondderbez6114 welcome to the rabbit hole. Being schooled in computer science, finite automata, and spending some time studying the nature of consciousness, I do not feel that behaviors are the result of computation. My intuition leads me to consider that sentient beings (all beings are sentient) are decentralized, non-boolean, quantum processers that share information via fields.
      "Disorder" is subjective. Dysfunction is objective. The molecules could be used to restore function. This is not computation.
      It is becoming clear in the discussions of consciousness that our being is non computational.

    But why would specific neurons be responsible for mental disorders? As far as I know they are often times caused by regulatory problems due to genes present in e.g. microglia not just your typical neurons. You can't just kill the ones that don't conform as they have probably differentiated into a cluster of cells with the same "symptoms" that carry out an essential function. Yes, the brain can rewire itself, but killing cells is not the way to go in my opinion

There’s sounds in popular music, pixels in ads and tv little things we don’t notice that change our behavior. All you have to do is nudge it and the brain takes care of the rest. Consciousness is a mechanism for ignoring conflicting messages. Like holding something hot, you don’t get let go automatically even if it starts hurting. You decide to go against what your body is telling you to do. Your neurons are constantly rearranging themselves. There’s a way to influence that even if it hasn’t been found yet. Don’t trust what you can see, your brain is a liar

    Wonder if this would work to turn on all the connections that we are not using. A brain at 100% would be interesting.

      Be careful what you wish for Steve, and if you are thinking of this now, the government is already deep into it.

      I don't wish or hope or pray...they are all imaginary. But I do "wonder" because it is the base of imaginary thinking the mother of invention and the primary mind humanity lives in. This the problem of mankind. They have not yet developed intellect. I have...a rarity. 3rd Phase of Universal Evolution an analogy of intellect.

      It must be stated but the notion that we don't use 100% of our brain is completely false. You can read about this myth in any neuro book, or online if you prefer (www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-people-only-use-10-percent-of-their-brains/)

      100% would turn your brain into mush. Everything connected with everything? All feelings, memories, thoughts triggered at the same time? As others pointed out this is not how brain works. If we ever get to full optogenetical brain then triggering 100% would be equivalent of Windows blue screen ;p

      6 years later, by implementing fear, they found the way to install the new software in the whole world population, blue lights are being installed everywhere on the streets, and the ones who used to call others crazy or conspiratorial, are now the sheep 🐑
