Me too! I'm trying to own a smaller wardrobe, use everything that I own, and keep enough variety to be able to match my outfit to my mood. I'm working towards a basic general wardrobe of really simple garments. Then have small capsules for each style. Boho capsule is as small as one dress, a hat, and one top. Then I can add in the style capsules with the basics. It's important to have a fairly cohesive color palette. I'm not done, but I'm really excited about this idea and what I have done so far has been working well.
whitmaca A small capsule for each garment sounds like a great idea, it would make getting dressed up easier depending on what mood you’re in for that day.
The struggle is loving styles like "cottage core" or "dark academic" but I work in a warehouse in an administrative role that sometimes involves climbing stuff... I need jeans and a slighty dressy work shirt and comfortable flats. None of that is "librarian-esq" (another fav look on boards!). Also I have kids and 0 time to iron or dry clean anything so it has to be simple, sturdy material... a hand knit cashmere sweater is gonna fall apart in the wash. So I often end up looking "dumpy" and cheap in my opinon. So I'm here trying to correct myself a bit. Thanks for your videos!
Thats a very good point about you being attracted to dressier stuff than you will realistically wear in your life. I find this in myself too. I work from home so I don’t need a lot of dressy things currently. I have been trying recently to figure out how to pair those dressy things with casual things to make them more everyday appropriate and get use out of them. This video came along at just the right time! And I really love your message about using what you have and being intentional about what you bring in. Thanks for all the inspiration! 😄
Thank you from France. I love watching these kind of videos for years, but it's the first time that i truly understand how to create my style and embrace it. You clearly made a point And stand out from the crowd. 😊🤗
I would add: D) consider your body type. I like pointy toe shoes but they kill my big toe. I have to accept that I cannot wear them, or I'd be wasting money forcing myself to literally wear a shoe that doesn't fit. Best I can do is a roomy almond toe. I am a pear shape with an athletic build (broad shoulders, flat chest). And I have a long torso. Some days I like to play up that sharp-then-curvey contrast. But, if I want to do an oversized look, I find it often made me feel more broad. I learned I had to find blazers, sweaters and tunics that are 30"+ to hit me right. Learning these things about my body, and accepting how it changed post-partum, has me MORE SATISFIED with my wardrobe AND my body. Rather than expecting it to work when I copied a look, I learned to tweak the look so it felt good for my body. (Also, long torso + curvy booty means I struuuuuuugle to find comfortable jeans. They pull down at my hips. I need a rise of, like, 14" in a high rise for them to feel good.)
You're totally right! Honoring your natural body shape and anatomy makes a huge difference. I think it's important to understand our "essence" first, and then see how we can bring that in with and make it work with our bodies.
This is very helpful advice. My struggle is that my favorite things to wear don't really fit my lifestyle. My style is fairly casual and comfortable, but I like a little touch of Boho or romantic elements. My favorite things to wear are light, loose sundresses, shorts & tanks, things like that. I live in West Africa, which requires long skirts and very modest dressing. I'm most likely to wear a comfortable solid color Tshirt with a skirt made with African wax fabric. Then I'm comfortable, and appropriate for the cultural modesty. When I'm in the US, the majority of my time is spent where it's too cold and impractical for my favorites (especially since I get cold easily after adjusting to the African climate.) One thing I realized recently is that I can work some of the aspects that I like into comfortable modest tops- things like ruffle sleeves. I've started looking for a few things that will work to tweak my wardrobe a little. Listening to your explanation of personal style and how to incorporate it really made sense.
Hi Anna! Where in West Africa do you live? I lived with my family in South Africa for a little bit. What if you focus on finding boho brands, and then seeing what they have available in the dress code that you need? I'm sure there are loose long sleeve dresses/shirts that would work, and you can easily belt them to add style. There's also gotta be cool clothing from India, they have similar requirements and are super colorful. Also, have you seen the Netflix show Dead To Me? I haven't seen your style, but the character Judy has a super boho chic look and a lot of the times wears stuff that is covered up. Look her up! It may be a good source of inspiration.
@@vazq_Fernanda Looking for brands with a boho style is a good idea. I haven't seen the netflix show, but I will look it up. I can't say more specifically than West Africa, because of security. We've lived in Africa for about 10 years, first Central Africa (Congo) then moved to West Africa. :)
I get that about security! We only lived in SA in Africa but we moved around a lot. I hope you have found some pieces or brands that work! Another creator, Emma Losey, has a video on how to incorporate boho into your wardrobe, and she mentions some brands. Check her out!

I have to wear all black everyday to work as a hairdresser. I like some edgy pieces like you. How do I divide pieces out so I have some fun things to wear on other days or evening. My style is very similar to yours
What you're essentially saying is that your job requires you to wear a uniform, so have a few pieces that fit that uniform (maybe build a work capsule), and then build your personal wardrobe with whatever actually makes you happy. If you need a little more pizzaz in your uniforms, you can pull accessories from your personal wardrobe to add a bit of an edge.
My taste is a little too vintage for modern stores. It is difficult to find the cut and even the colors I like. I'm trying to imitate with more modern things, but it's not quite right.
Fernanda, I love the tops you wear, like the one you have on now. I can’t wear that without a bra because I’m chesty. What kind of bra do you wear that no straps are visible?
I’m wearing a strapless bra! The key thing is that it has to fit you really well. If you can get measured in a department store, those are the best places to shop for bras in my opinion. I can’t not wear a bra either!
Hey Fernanda! Can you tell me what brand those neutral flats were you showed? I’m a heel girl slowly transitioning to lower heels, blocked, or wedged heels. Trying to find flats I like...😳

Your body may not be the same that it was, but it's so much better now because it gave you SIX CHILDREN!! I'm still amazed that our bodies can create an entire new human, it blows my mind. Quick tip: Often people think that the way to "disguise" the tummy area is to wear flowy tops, but this can actually make it worse because it brings more attention to that area when the fabric moves in front of it. Instead, try high-waisted pants or skirts and focus on bringing the focus elsewhere - your face with jewelry, your boobs if you like them with a nice neckline, or your legs. I hope this helps!

But you know what… I’m very comfortable in my clothes and I don’t know if I would like to change anything.
That's the whole point right?! As long as you can move and you're comfortable, it doesn't matter what you wear!
Thank you! This was a really helpful tutorial, also for introducing me to how to use Pinterest effectively.
Question: How do you expand the types of images you can find on Pinterest? I only follow a few but they look the same and are only one aspect of what I like to wear
Very helpful..keep up the good work.
Thanks Joan!
New sub! TFS! ❤
Awesome top 💕
Very interesting!
Thank you Eline!
My taste is a little too vintage for modern stores. It is difficult to find the cut and even the colors I like. I'm trying to imitate with more modern things, but it's not quite right.
Me too!!
I've gotten this comment a couple of times. I'm thinking more and more about it! What era of vintage do you like?
Vintage shops or goodwill are great places to find style pieces you like far more variety than in a shop I've found 💞
Fernanda, I love the tops you wear, like the one you have on now.
I am not able to decide which style stuits me best. hipster, classy, punk. I trie to combine it xD
Combining is what defines YOUR personal style! That is what makes it unique.
I live in a climate where you cannot preplan outfits due to the constantly changing weather…but maybe if I planned a week at a time and then flexed…
Hey Fernanda! Can you tell me what brand those neutral flats were you showed? I’m a heel girl slowly transitioning to lower heels, blocked, or wedged heels. Trying to find flats I like...😳
Hi Janice! It's nice to see you. That particular style is from Tory Burch, but they are discontinued. Sam Edelman or Aldo may have something similar though!
Fernanda - Approximately Right Hey Fernanda! I was just watching your latest video! Thanks for the advice, I see Aldo has some I like!
Have I been butchering “chambray” this whole time? Lol! I’ve been pronouncing the A like in shamrock.😂
My personal challenge is that I'm 53, short and round! LOL
What looks great on others in photos usually looks ridiculous on me. 😐
Wanna book one of the free 20 min consultations that I offer? I can give you some pointers!
@@vazq_Fernanda I might very well be interested in that.

I like styles that cover my figure but end up looking dowdy. I love jackets but they don't fly at home where I work as a retiree.
Hi! You mean you want to hide your figure? What if you look for items that flatter it instead, while still being covered up? It's not about showing skin - it's about creating shapes!
@@vazq_Fernanda I know I should but my stomach and midriff get in the way! No waistline here!
@@lavadaroufs You can create the illusion of a waistline with visual interest: with Peplum tops, belts, V-necklines, patterns in your tops. Are you an apple shape?
@@vazq_Fernanda Definitely an apple!
TH-cam : let's not send her any notification at all and let her find out about it from Fernanda's community tab.
Really?? You didn’t get an email last week?
@@vazq_Fernanda
If I checked my emails I would be a good student.
I'm not 😂
Still! It bums me out that you didn't get alerted right away! I like seeing your comments. Did you find the other video you were looking for?
@@vazq_Fernanda
Other video?
I got a notification saying "6:10 would love to see that video" But I think you meant one on style uniforms right?
🖐🏼🙂
I'm a mom of 6 44 yrs old
so my body isn't what it was 😭
I perfer a dressy style/ boho tops that are more flowy in the mom tummy area.
sigh.... just something I need to work on I do love fashion definitely don't have a capsule wardrobe but I do find I only use a small percentage of my clothing lol
@@vazq_Fernanda awe thanks so much make me want to cry 😭
Your right sometimes I do feel bigger in baggier tops I will try the high waisted trick
would I than tuck in the top ? tia 🧡
Great upload! I think you'd enjoy my videos too. Keep up with the great work! 💛❤️
Ahem. Courtesy sneeze into your elbow. We should all make this a reflex.
Agreed 100%. I will say that I went to go wash my hands immediately afterwards, but that didn't make it into the video.
So informative. Thank you!
