Ready, set, plan! The description is now complete, with more links to previous videos, to help you structure your wardrobe. Next Wednesday: how MY wardrobe plan would look like ;-)
Thank you so much! I love that your plan is both specific and customization/flexible. I've also been reading "The Curated Closet." Between that book and your video series, I hope to dive into the world of capsule wardrobes this fall.
The way you talk is so nice, I feel like i can focus more on your content instead of some youtubers exaggerated tones and screams distract me so much....
I just wanna say I really admire you and the work you put into this! You are very informative with professional opinions and still you come across really friendly and with sense of humor. The fact that you ask your followers questions and take their critiques in consideration, shows us you are the real deal. Thank you for helping us with your amazing videos. Wish you all the best...you deserve much more followers! 😊😃
U r my favorite too Justine. Very pleasant person to watch giving very useful advice. U save us hours of torment with decision making and problem solving. I liked ur solution for tidying away French curves, metre rule, etc Mine were always in the way! Thnx
My favorite (honest) method to gauge just how often I wear a garment is to put the hangers on the rod “backwards”. After I wear the item, I return the hanger the “regular” way. After 3 months, I take out all of the backward hangers and evaluate those items. Easy!
Hi Justine! Big fan here. I wanted to share what worked for me in terms of style and number of pieces for my capsule wardrobe: instead of 30 items for each of 4 seasons, I did 10 items each for 5 categories: Work, Warm (I move between continents and climates so grouped all warm weather days together), Basics, Cool (ditto for winter+early spring+late autumn) and Event. My Basics capsule has things I wear all year like jeans, Breton striped top, chiffon/silk blouses etc, Work capsule has the suits & formal dresses/trousers, cashmere, I like to keep these two in a minimalist Parisian kind of theme & colours. My cold weather capsule has an English countryside vibe with tweed jacket, sheepskin coat etc while the Warm one is very classic with bright floral sundresses & such. The Event one has beaded, designer etc partywear. This way I have 10x5= 50 pieces instead of 30x4= 120, which means I don't have to put much away & therefore can mix & match more throughout the year= thus never get boredom same clothes or style all season!
Thanks for sharing this. I think this approach is something that could work for me. It's approximately what I'm doing already but helpful to have more of a framework to enable better planning and to streamline even more.
I love the way you pronounce "pear" in the earlier videos. I really like it when people who speak another language fluently have their own unique pronunciation of a couple of words. It makes it special and endearing.
I come from one of the Baltic states, and as I was born in Soviet times and much of my childhood and teenage years were spent during the economically hard times after the collapse of USSR, I can tell that I have always had the capsule wardrobe. Only it was driven by absolutely different reason - mainly constant deficite of clothes in the stores and lack of money. However, one thing was the same - to try to look as good as possible in any circumstances. So, it is interesting to see how people from wealthy countries are now learning these skills which I have learned from my mother. And actually since we have joined the EU and the fast fashion brands entered our market I often cought myself willing to do as THEY do meaning shop often without consideration and make impulse purchases, but somehow I still find it difficult, although sometimes I wish I could buy something just for fun (and I actually do, but still the piece usually will have a REAL use). And being in my thirties now I am kinda fascinated to see how our difficult living circumstances have actually made many of us think sustaibable and reasonable also fashionwise.
Good to hear your thoughts, Polina. You have a useful mindset that aligns with Justine's eco-friendly philosopy (and French philosophy) of dress. I hope you are able to get the quality, flattering clothing that you enjoy. Sometimes in the West, despite the impression of abundance, there is a poverty in selection of well made, well designed clothing that lasts. That's partly why I like American consignment shops (and shop in Canada when I can), because the clothing is so well made, with a flattering and stylish cuts.
I am always surprised how 120 pieces is considered a capsule wardrobe. Coming from post soviet country, I always had just a couple of garments and if something got damaged, then I would look for something new. Now that I am not so limited by money, but still 120 seems to be a lot.
@@corkaczarownicy I agree. I think having 30 items you can wear each season is reasonable but many should overlap. I have a year round capsule wardrobe and aim for 30-40 pieces of clothing and shoes. I have semi formal work wear and some seasonal items, but the seasons are not as extreme here as they are in Europe
The only youtuber that thinks her audience ...internationally.... kodos!!! Now i can relate ... we only have dry and wet season here... much love ..❤️❤️❤️
Since having started watching this channel I have looked at my clothing different and added personal style to my routine of personal self reflection. I have become more aware of why certain outfits make me feel good and others don't and have gotten better at replicating the outfits I feel comfortable in with other pieces in my closet. Thank you for expanding my self awareness!
Funnily enough, that's how your wardrobe works when you have no extra money. You know you needed jeans, a jacket, two blouses, a sweater, a cardigan etc., and you assemble minimal wardrobe that works. Because you have no spare money to waste on a whim, only planning will get you through.
I buy tee-shirts from Hanes, and wear them underneath cardigans, sweaters, or with a heavier top in the Winter months. I also layer thermals underneath tops with color. For example, a red-pinkish floral thermal top underneath, and topped with a burgundy top. Underwear tee-shirts are more versatile, especially in the winter months. Tops cost more money, so budgeting forced to be more economical.
Amazing! I want to share my wardrobe! I live in Costa Rica. Two seasons, wet and hot. No budget for clothes. Most of my clothes come from gifts and passed-down items, but I'm lucky to have a family with similar shapes and good taste :) Tops: 4 blouses, in bright colors and long sleeves, for sunny days (to avoid sunburns and excess heat). 3 formal shirts in different styles, but the blouses also work for formal wear. Around 7 t-shirts for daily wear or exercise. Over-Tops: 5 light knit sweaters, in neutral colors. 2 big, warm sweaters for cold nights. 2 large rainproof jackets. 3 "formal" jackets (one black, one gray, one brown). Bottoms: 1 blue jeans, 1 dark gray jeans. 2 shorts. 1 sports leggings. About 5 dresses. Shoes: 1 running shoes, 1 sneakers, 1 formal booties. I wear the running shoes daily as I have a problem in my feet. Hope it helps someone!
Cécile Lebleu thank you. Im from Costa Rica too, we have similar clothes. That' s interesting. Escribo en inglés por si alguien más lo lee, realmente. Pero me parece muy chiva encontrarme otra persona de mi país en youtube, ya que asumo que somos tan poquitos que nunca voy a encontrarme un comentario tico en esta red social. Saludos
You are my FAVOURITE TH-camr Justine. You are knowledgeable, relatable, honest, clever, beautiful and articulate. I have learnt so much from your videos. Keep them coming!! ❤🎉
Justine! The way in which you consider all elements is refreshing. Culture, climate, personal style, body shape, colour, lifestyle and personal preference is soul fulfilling to me. As a Canadian with family in Europe I feel there is so much lacking where I live. Your European ideals on fashion reflects a woman's creativity and authentic self. Thank you.
bonjourJustine, I am a regular viewer of your videos. being a personal stylist and style consultant myself, I very much appreciate your stress on importance of: colouring, body shape and style/personality for one's style. really, these things (knowing oneself) are the core of great style no matter what age or ethnicity, and when one gets to really know what suits her/him, trends (or fads, to put correctly ;)) are not even important any more. thank you for sharing these important facts in your videos!
Yes I have an Indian holiday capsule wardrobe. Traveling to India and having tailor made clothes is how I created my first capsule wardrobe. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. Now I have multiple capsules to the point I was fearful I may have multiple personalities.
I found your channel researching a capsule wardrobe. In such a short time you are like an old friend. You me and a cup of tea! Thanks for the great video!
For 2016 my goal for the year was to buy no new clothes, in the end I had to buy two bridesmaids dresses for my brother and cousins wedding, but other than that I did achieve my goal! For this year 2017, my goal is to purchase more locally made clothes to support new businesses. Greetings from Ecuador!
I started getting rid of clothes before watching this video. Now I have a direction on where to go from here. This is the most comprehensive video that I have found on you tube on capsule wardrobe. I'm very grateful that I have found your channel. Thank you Justine!
Yesterday I went to a second hand store and bought a very nice cardigan, I left very happy because I felt like I was doing something nice and today I've been spending my day sorting out all the clothes I have left and answering your questions in a note. It was really fun and made me think about what I really need and that I can find very nice thing in a more ecofriendly way!
Thank you so much for this series! So helpful! I have a suggestion for those who need to add to the wardrobe, take pictures of your items that you have on your phone and create an album you so you can make sure when you go to get the new piece to fit in, you can make sure it's the piece you need and are looking for. This helps me from buying something completely off track and something that doesn't fit with everything else. Looking forward to the rest of the series:)
A few years ago, I stumbled onto your channel, and you taught me my undertone. (I can't believe I thought I was anything other than warm?!) Now I'm rediscovering your channel, and I am so excited to find this series. Thank you for explaining color and fashion in such a simple way for people like me! Fashion doesn't come easily to me, even though I desperately pretend otherwise. You are so helpful. I love your videos and will save them to reference again . Esp this series: I love timeless clothes!
I travel for vacations and for work. So I always make sure that every piece i buy I should layer on top of each other or could be matched with each other. I have discovered that scarfs with mixed colors, denim, good black pants and a good style white blouse is a must.
Thank you for being a voice of well-researched, considerate reason among the overall craziness of beauty/fashion TH-camrs. I watch your capsule wardrobe videos at least once every six or so months to remind myself to hold back when I want to go on a spree for clothes I will never wear... and I learn so much from your historical/cultural videos! Please keep up the hard work!
Thanks for reminding that this should be a positive experience! Wardrobe organization can get overwhelming at the drop of a hat, but why create stress over something you love? Super awesome Justine-spiration... as always!
I love your videos. I am in my 70s and retired. I travel world wide a lot for 3to4 weeks at a time. I've created a "travel" capsule wardrobe by watching your videos. I always look European chic . My favorite video is the one "French chic" Thank you so much. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Justine! It was a very happy coincidence that you started this series just when I was thinking about planning a capsule wardrobe. This is what I've done so far: I didn't plan with seasons because the weather is either warm or cold in my city without middle terms. So just two piles of clothing. I discarded all the items I didn't use or love, I tried to focus in not to think 'oh, but maybe I'll use it someday' because I just don't,I know it for sure. Now I'm using what I have and deciding if I need more items or not.
Love you! You are the best! Merci! Maybe you don't know how much you help all of us, who do not have a clue about this. You give us a starting point and direction! And make it so easy and simple to take care of ourselves! Thank you so much!
For the last month, I've been taking a long, hard look at the way I dress and the way I shop for clothes. While preparing for a family vacation, I discovered how much minimalist packing appealed to me (a month with 3 bottoms! 4 tops! lightweight luggage!) and I was driven to expand the principles beyond the luggage. My wardrobe was all over the place: I'm mostly a thrift shop shopper and I'd buy anything that caught my eye - without trying it on! - because if it didn't fit, no matter, it cost almost nothing. I also had 2 babies in 3 years and my body shape was all over the place for the last 5 years; there was lots of things too small and lots of things too big among my clothes. It needed a good overhaul. I've watched a lot of your videos lately and this week-end, I did the big purge (with an eye for my skin tone, undertone and body shape; thanks Justine!). I'm down to 114 pieces (including shoes) for 4 seasons. The particularities: - Here the winter takes up much of the year so the ratio warm weather clothes - cold weather clothes is 1/3 -2/3. Also, my summer wardrobe stays out year long because I use many items as underlayer in winter. Aaaand my vests and blazers get lots of use in summer since the a/c at work is so freakin' frigid.- I'm very, very, particular about the feel of fabric against my skin. Everything I kept feels soft or silky. All of my pure wool stuff got the shaft (including my cashmere turtleneck); I only kept a few merino blend that don't feel like wool at all. - I work in an office so most of it (I'd say... 90% ?) is formal wear, and the rest is camping clothes/travel clothes. Of my 9 pants, I only have 1 pair of jeans :-((( I miss jeans. But for the travel clothes, I chose pants in a not too campy style, that I can wear to work (like Icebreaker's Shasta pants, and Mountain Hardwear's black yuma) (does the idea of wicking fabric pants as "formal" wear make the Parisian in you shudder...? I wonder ;-)- I got rid of everything that wrinkle or won't go into the washing machine since I don't have time for hand washing or ironing. Steam cycle is a very good friend.- I have over 10 dresses because I love how hassle free wearing a dress is - no wondering which top, which sweater, which blazer to wear with which pants. This may change as, while skimming my wardrobe, I made a list of outfits. I'm thinking of sticking that list to my wardrobe wall as easy reminder... riding herd on the kids in the morning, I don't have the mental space to think about my outfit so a pre-done kit list would be just the thing. - The only cardigan I kept got relegated to sleepwear... I probably don't know how to shop for/take care of cardigans because all those I owned turned into shapeless rags in under a month. Conclusion: I got rid of more pieces of clothes than I kept. It is so liberating! My objectives for the next year : - buy no more than 5 items (4 already decided, 1 spot left open); - get down to less than a hundred items (the number of dresses will probably get cut in half; I want each piece of clothing staying in my wardrobe to fit with at least two other items)- Travel with carry on only... And for a long week-end in NYC, travel with only a 4L bag, ie: a medium purse (sorry, had to plug some minimalist luggage stuff in here ^^) Phew, that turned into a long post... Et ce sera encore plus long car je tiens absolument à vous dire combien j'apprécie vos vidéos, Justine. Vous êtes réellement sympathique, vous n'avez aucune condescension, vous êtes encourageante et naturelle... J'adore votre style! Merci!
Back to this video after six years because I’m a new mom and definitely need to adjust my wardrobe to my new life. Thank you Justine for your incredible work!
I think you explain this concept really well. I’m leaning on doing my wardrobe this way from now on. It’s quite a challenge, I must say, since I tend to often shop impulsively. But I see that it’s not just about being organized and not being wasteful. I realized that having a capsule wardrobe will save me plenty of time of digging through my clothes and money spent on throw away fashion items. It made me redirect my time and money on more important things. So thank you for sharing this. 🙂
Bonjour Justine, my first ever comment on TH-cam! I've been waiting for this video since I awoke. You make fantastic content with perfect timing, I'm working on a capsule wardrobe myself. I've binge watched all your videos and always looking forward to new ones. I'm very interested in everything fashion, from brands, high quality fabrics, stitching, shoes, jewelry, hairstyles and makeup. Keep making amazing videos, much love from Toronto ❤️
Thank you for this series Justine. I'm actually at a place where I hate almost all my clothes and want a wardrobe makeover! This is really going to help me decide, if I actually do need a new wardrobe. I work in an environment where I have to wear full business attire (full business suit actually) three days a week, and business casual twice a week. I'm learning so much, because I realized half my closet does not make any sense to have whatsoever! I also don't like shopping so timeless pieces would be my ideal wardrobe choices. I'm lucky on one aspect though. I live in the tropics, the weather is perfect here! :)
Great video and just in time! I am trying to plan a new wardrobe and style as I near my 59th birthday. I don't have too many clothes but I find that they don't go together very well. I am missing some key pieces and this will help me get motivated and started. Keep up the great work!
Hi Justine, You are so organized and details are right on point. I have changed so much on how I look at my wardrobe. I am buying smarter I have more room in my closet. but still have some purging to do. But I am getting there. Who says you can't teach and old dog something knew lol talking about myself I am more than likely your oldest knew friend here. I love the time listening and learning. Now that I am retired it will be easier because causal is what I go for these days very little reason to go dressy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise, it is so helpful with making life much easier other than the organized chaos I was living in. Now I can look in my closet and see what is there. That a plus. Love and hugs from Shirley see you Sunday
Shirley Hook I know you're not the only "mature" new friend Justine has because I am here: retired & 54. It's never too late to learn! Besides, Justine is so much fun!! 😘
Hi Amy, I will have my 69th birthday in October. So I am much older than you, but hey Justine is a blast she is an amazing young lady. Nice to meet you Amy and yes you are right it is never to late to learn I learn something new everyday. And look forward to being a hip young thinking mature older woman. Age is but a number. My heart is young, but my body on some days tell me wo slow down. So I listen, rest a bit and then I go full blast. Thank you for replying hope to hear from you again. I do love people.
Shirley Hook I agree with all you said, especially the part about the body saying "Whoa!" Mine did that a few days ago, so I am resting for now. Soon I hope to go full blast again! 😘
This is extremely well planned and methodical! I am definitely using this to design my wardrobe. You make creating and utilizing a capsule wardrobe so easy Justine! A great video, as usual 😀😀
I do like your take on the 2 bold colours for each season. I don't quite do that because I love colour, but I have organized my wardrobe into colour categories, with a few pieces that fit in several categories. For example when I was visiting family for a week I packed all my green/pink category with a secondary brown accent.
After watching your videos I realized that I've curated a capsule wardrobe without realizing it. I entered into my 30s and had two kids, so a lot of stuff has been donated over the years because my body has changed, I have no money, and I am dressing a little older now. Its been a natural evolution for me. Also, I've realized that I do have certain colors I stick to for the most part. A couple outfits I have don't fit with the other colors in my wardrobe and I think this is why I don't wear them. So now I understand something about myself that I didn't before 😂 thanks, Justine!
Hey Justine, just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate that you create such detailed and informative videos for us! This video has been incredibly helpful and it is the best video about capsule wardrobes that I have ever watched. I love the way you organise your thoughts into categories (for eg. in this video you used steps) and every video that you make is always so clear and helpful. By the way, can you make more videos on shoes specifically? :) thanks xx
This is one of the most realistic and natural looking makeup tutorials I've watched on TH-cam! Thanks for making it. It has a lot of good tips without being complicated.
Merci, Justine! My closet is crammed with clothes I never wear, along with core pieces I wear frequently, sort of an unofficial capsule inside the larger wardrobe. This series is the inspiration & professional guidance I need to clean out that closet & get organized. Solid advice, as always.
I have to thank you for starting your youtube channel, Justine! Since I found your channel, my view on clothing will never be the same anymore. I used to think that I just have to wear what I feel comfortable with and never think about the philosophy behind it. Again, thank you for broaden my horizon 🤗 Keep up the amazing work since I always put my eyes on your channel 😊
The template was really helpful! And as a spreadsheet aficionado, I ended up using formulas to automatically count the items per color in each module on one tab while having another tab to list all of my specific items.
Dear Justin, i have been following u for such a long time, i am from a South Asian country, i will shift to Australia soon, of course the style n clothing will b changed according to the culture n fashion there. U r my guide n ur videos r such a helpful guideline from where i am learning so much about fashion n clothing style. U have been doing great. I appreciate n wish ur bright future, health, happiness n success❤️
I think this is the first time that I find a capsule wardrobe doable. You are making me look at my clothes in a different way. Even though I don't own many clothes, I am a bit messy in that I suck at buying basics, so I end up with a few fixed outfits because certain pieces only match each other and I can't mix things up!
Hi Justine. I'm 77 yrs. young. I'm having fun following your master plan. I think I'm going to need several notebooks. I've already loaded up my note section in my tablet but the scrolling annoys me because I want to see it all at one glance. Age? Haha. I've always taken pride in my wardrobe, except at home. I call those clothes work clothes because I ruin clothes working in the yard, painting, building, taking care of four cats, my babies. I'm tiny so I'm blessed to be able to wear most anything I choose, but that's soon to change. Haha. I'm also blessed to have, still have a full head of brown hair. Good genes? I don't know. I love the few streaks of silver. But I have wrinkles, tho. Can't have everything can we? Love your videos. They're inspiring and fun. Thank you!
I want to tell you that I tuned 42 ans Im a shop addict lover of clothes well I answered yes to all of your five questions. I began the decluttering of my wardrobe with the pandemia. I've been listening to many many youtubes video on it and still had questions left. Thank you so much for behing explainfull you answer all my left questions and I feel that I can now pursui my goal. Sorry for the mistakes I'm from Quebec Canada and I speak french.
I am trying to organise my wordrobe and make it more practical, functional. I am also giving up cheap clothes from fast fashion and investing on quality pieces that will last for years. I now now that I need to sit down and make a list of what I actually have and what would be ideal for me. Thanks so much for your guidance!
Thanks to your absolutely delightful videos, I am finally living up to the courage of my layering :). I have many pieces I always say I will layer. I have found the key is taking the time to put it together. Taking that extra ten minutes to make what I already have work. Merci, Justine!
I have no words to justify how good your channel is. I have learnt so much about fashion, skin tones, undertone and most importantly fashion, style has to be as per my taste/personality. You have inspired me so much.. love you justine
I’ve just been smaller as an autumn and cleared out my wardrobe of the many cool clothes I had- having almost nothing left this is so helpful! Thank you 🙏
This is brilliant.Thank you Justine.l now have a plan.l am a impulsive shopper, but no real plan. You end up with a closet stuffed with nice clothes but not a wardrobe. This is going to change the way l shop. You my dear are a genius.
I love you description of categories and making a list of things I need to update. It's very organized. I found your channel when I was researching capsule wardrobes and I love it. I have a job where I need to look professional every day for work. A capsule keeps work clothing costs down and makes dressing in the morning easy. The rest of the time, it's leggings/sweats and t-shirts 😊
Last season I planned out a capsule wardrobe but didn't actually do it. I realized however that I was missing a long black cardigan, which I found in the meantime. This season (Fall), I decided to actually do it. I'm going for 30 items. Find by breakdown below if anyone is interested: 6 bottoms: 1 black dress, 1 long black skirt, 1 pair of blue jeans, 2 pairs of classic black pants 17 tops: 3 sweaters, 3 fancy sleeveless tops, 7 monochromatic sleeveless tops, 4 pre-combined tops (shirt+cardigan sown together) 7 over-tops: 1 spring jacket, 1 winter jacket, 2 black cardigans, 1 gray cardigan, 1 green cardigan, 1 fancy strappy brown cardigan.
Hi Justine, I just want to say how much easier it has been for me to dress well since I started adopting the capsule wardrobe mindset! I am selling heaps of unnecessary items now. Thank you!!
Bonjour, Justine! I really love your practical videos. I am in my mid-40s and I feel like I've never learned how to dress. I am a nurse, so I wear scrub uniforms at work. At home, I feel like I never have the right thing to wear. Yet at the same time, I have entirely too many clothes. Thank you for these guidelines. I am thinning my clothes out already, and thinking about what I really need in terms of the way my mother (who knows how to tailor clothes, learning from my aunt, who was a professional tailor in the WWII era) taught me to analyze quality. I love your channel!
I have just discovered you and I've already learned so much. I'm an older woman, a little heavier and it's just not as fun to get dressed anymore. I find your practical suggestions make great sense and get me a little more interested. Thank you. I love listening to you.
Hi Justine, I deeply appreciate the thoroughness of the content in every single one of your videos. Your savvy advice and fashion sense are a source of inspiration for many of us here. A few months back, I started an office attire capsule and I have managed to put together several outfits with fewer pieces than expected. So, building another capsule for my casual clothes focusing on the coming seasons (fall & winter) will be a great way to declutter my closet and get rid of clothes I have not worn in ages. I am looking forward for more Capsule Wardrobe Guide videos! Greetings from Mexico.
I'm starting to realize that the element that interests me in the capsule concept is not drastic downsizing (though I am happy to get rid of what really doesn't work), but intelligent curatorship: I'd like to make sure that each item has several possible matches that really work for me - which admittedly was not always the case thus far. Your succinct videos are masterfully crafted, inspiring and very helpful. You are truly good at what you do. Thank you!
I am not good of thinking of a capsule wardrobe as a whole. I found an example of using five of my favorite items and builing three outfits around each one. This worked so well for me and I found that many of those mini capsules actually fit together when I used my favorite color palette. This way of going about it was so much easier for me than trying to find 1 item that coordinated with my entire capsule.
You are brilliant, my dear! Great content, direct to the point and very enjoyable to watch! Very happy your channel has grown this past months! You deserve it!!!
I always used to be told to buy summer dresses because I will need them. In reality I own one summer dress now, after years of giving them away. I prefer loose pants and tank tops/oversized tees. Or shorts. Capsule wardrobes are so helpful, trying to figure out exactly what you use and what works. There isn't a set style for anyone. :) I also found I love black white and other neutrals, simple look. I appreciate all fashion and others styles but it took a few years to figure out what I like on myself! Your styling videos are perfect, and informative 👌
I'm so excited for this series, I've watched a lot of capsule wardrobe content on TH-cam and already what you're putting together is the next level of useful detail - thank you! The model I use (even though I live in Europe with four distinct seasons) is a year round basics wardrobe of ~30 items and 6 shoes , plus a seasonal/trend mini capsule (~6 items and 2 or 3 shoes), plus an occasionwear mini capsule (~6 items and 2 or 3 shoes). So the seasonal/trend mini capsule I switch up each season, and it gives you a little space to add something particularly trend led that you like. I think this works for me because in the UK although the seasons are distinct it doesn't get super hot for long periods, or super cold for long periods, so the bulk of my wardrobe works for most of the year, plus the seasonal mini capsules for the little extremes of weather! Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you so, so, much. All this time I thought a capsule wardrobe meant 30 pieces for the whole year. In Australia, we have four seasons. Now I can buy more clothes to get me through each one. Let's go shopping!
Hi Justin, love this video ! I search for a good video in that subject and I have to say You are the best!!! I am 37 years old woman and is hard for me to mix and match clothes. But after watching your videos i learn so many thinks .... Keep doing what you doing because you are absolutely the best person on youtube who explain every subject start from style, fashion to clothing and colors. I wait every week for your new show :-) I adore you. Big hugs and blessing love polish Kate
Thank you I've been living with a capsule wardrobe for 2 seasons and it's now coming up to winter & i was getting worried that I would over load my wardrobe again. But I feel your channel will help not lose control. So once again thank you.
haven't even watched it all and excited from the moment you said one season. I watch your videos every week and I wish you great success and happiness thank you for the work you do
I discovered your channel yesterday afternoon, and was immediately addicted! Your wonderfully bright, positive, energetic attitude is a delight. I'm always a huge fan of people who make an effort to share their knowledge and expertise. Especially when that individual is Parisian....... Lol! I spent quite some time in Paris in my early 20's. In other European cities too, but Paris was, and is my favorite! I am without a doubt a huge lover of fashion, and over the years, (many year), have developed my own distinct and unique style. I have pieces in my closet that are at least 20 yrs old, classics, extremely well made, and timeless. To say I got my moneys worth out of them, would be an underestimation! I may be wrong, but it seems to me, that I would hard pushed to find clothes of the same quality as those older pieces today, am I imagining this? Thank you so much
Thank you Justine! I look forward to the rest of the series. This gives me hope that maybe this fall & winter I will finally a have a put together closet...and no more "I have nothing to wear" mornings 😊 much love from the 4 season (where 6 months sometimes feel like winter) Edmonton 🇨🇦
I had never really thought much about my wardrobe until recently. I have lost quite a bit of weight and find myself needing to purchase clothes 3 or 4 sizes smaller than what I have in my current wardrobe. Since I do not want to spend a lot of money on something I am not going to get much use from, I have begun to research what outfits, colors, and materials I like. This video series is very timely and helpful for me. I spent a couple of hours today going through my clothes. This initial process was for what fits and what do I like. I removed two large bags for give away to friends or charity. Now I am not sure what I do like? What I need to keep or what else I need to purchase. Thank you Justine for helping me start this journey.
Angela Tomlinson Do you have a nice resale shop near you? I go to one fairly often for great deals on high-quality clothes. it's kind of hit-or-miss, but especially worth it when you're maybe trying different styles or you may not want to keep it for long (like if you're losing more weight). best wishes on your journey!
Angela, congrats to you for losing weight (if it was by intent, not due to illness). If you have some high quality pieces you really love, it may be worth it to get a seamstress to take them in a bit. Vegeroot's comment about consignment/resale is also very good!
I love your videos and I love the way you talk. I mean, it should be concious move and not a punishment. Sometimes i feel judged in society for "not doing enough" or not trying hard enough for environment, for the health, for the... But when you try to do things better and find joy in simplicity, it is really demotivating to hear so many judgement that your small changes are not enough. This sparks my interest in simplifying my wardrobe as earlier I looked as something you must do but really don't want to... thank you very much. Less boundaries and rules make it more approchable and doable, also easier to maintain and not just stop after doing for a month and being "good"
Again you have managed to answer many of the looming questions I have had in getting comfortable with the idea of a capsule wardrobe. I have always had a limited wardrobe and have spend time making sure I only buy what I think I will actually be able to cross reference into my wardrobe and therefore, I liked the idea of a capsule wardrobe but have wondered how I can marry my lifestyle and my seasons through into the concept. Thank you for your insight. And 'Well Done' on being someone who is so honest and considered on what your channel focuses on. You really are doing it well.
This video couldn't have come at a better time! I need a new wardrobe and I was also at an ethical turning point. Thank you for sharing, much love from Lebanon ♥
This is such a great video, I’m watching it again, more than 3 years later. Even though I don’t buy red, orange, yellow or most purples, I still have so many colors in my wardrobe, but I love them.
Great tip about adding several key pieces in 1 or 2 feature colors per seasonal capsule. Great way to follow trends without starting over (& over & over). For example, Fall 2017: Red Red Red!
Great helpful video! My mom always said to have a dark neutral, a bright color and a light color. I used to have a navy, light gray (Dior Gray) and coral capsule. The I just changed out the coral when it got a bit tired. Then I added a charcoal gray for a change in the dark neutral. Love your earrings!
Ready, set, plan! The description is now complete, with more links to previous videos, to help you structure your wardrobe. Next Wednesday: how MY wardrobe plan would look like ;-)
I'm very excited to see how your wardrobe plan will look Justine! Thank you so much for all you teach us :)
Reebs as am I! So excited!
Justine Leconte officiel excellent intro video thanks. I am in LOVE with your earrings. What are they please
Thank you so much! I love that your plan is both specific and customization/flexible. I've also been reading "The Curated Closet." Between that book and your video series, I hope to dive into the world of capsule wardrobes this fall.
Excited for your next video
The way you talk is so nice, I feel like i can focus more on your content instead of some youtubers exaggerated tones and screams distract me so much....
Quality content that stands on its own without all the distracting bells and whistles of other channels.
Vanille Riz have you noticed that she has some English words with an almost Manchester accent?
yes!
Finally we have a professional giving us invaluable information. Thanks a ton. Lots of luv from India
Justine is definitely the best, she's professional who shares facts and adds a bit of French fest of personal experience. Love this channel!
Great comment! Professionals are in deficit on YT :) One more great reason to enjoy videos of lovely Justine.
Could not agree more. Thank you, Thank you!
+Just Press Playlist thank you! Happy to help 😉
I couldn't agree more!!!! She is my favourite youtuber !!
U r my favorite too Justine. Very pleasant person to watch giving very useful advice. U save us hours of torment with decision making and problem solving.
I liked ur solution for tidying away French curves, metre rule, etc Mine were always in the way!
Thnx
I speak Spanish and always watching her videos, she is the best, BRAVO Justine!
My favorite (honest) method to gauge just how often I wear a garment is to put the hangers on the rod “backwards”. After I wear the item, I return the hanger the “regular” way. After 3 months, I take out all of the backward hangers and evaluate those items. Easy!
So simple, yet so smart. Thank you for the tip :)
Alli Minerva That's a really cool alternative to tackle downsizing! Thanks for sharing your model :-)
Alli Minerva I like your "aproach" very much! Thanks for sharing!!! 👌
You're very welcome! I hope it works well for you too 😊
I love your approach!! Thank you for sharing.
I love the way you pronounce "pear" in the earlier videos. I really like it when people who speak another language fluently have their own unique pronunciation of a couple of words. It makes it special and endearing.
+Guyomar Pillai is that why no one told me?... 🤔😅
Justine Leconte officiel I wouldn't be surprised - French accents are definitely among the most popular with English speakers.
Polina Skinke So awesome. Thanks for sharing your story
I am SO glad it is helpful. Such feedback is extremely motivating. Thanks!
"This is an exercise, not a punishment." What a fantastic philosophy!
Funnily enough, that's how your wardrobe works when you have no extra money. You know you needed jeans, a jacket, two blouses, a sweater, a cardigan etc., and you assemble minimal wardrobe that works. Because you have no spare money to waste on a whim, only planning will get you through.
CatherineZ lol this is exactly how things are going for me right now. Being a broke student is hard :/
Most of my clothes come from gifts and passed-down items, but I'm lucky to have a family with similar shapes and good taste :)
Tops: 4 blouses, in bright colors and long sleeves, for sunny days (to avoid sunburns and excess heat). 3 formal shirts in different styles, but the blouses also work for formal wear. Around 7 t-shirts for daily wear or exercise.
Over-Tops: 5 light knit sweaters, in neutral colors. 2 big, warm sweaters for cold nights. 2 large rainproof jackets. 3 "formal" jackets (one black, one gray, one brown).
Bottoms: 1 blue jeans, 1 dark gray jeans. 2 shorts. 1 sports leggings. About 5 dresses.
Shoes: 1 running shoes, 1 sneakers, 1 formal booties. I wear the running shoes daily as I have a problem in my feet.
Hope it helps someone!
Cécile Lebleu thank you. Im from Costa Rica too, we have similar clothes. That' s interesting. Escribo en inglés por si alguien más lo lee, realmente. Pero me parece muy chiva encontrarme otra persona de mi país en youtube, ya que asumo que somos tan poquitos que nunca voy a encontrarme un comentario tico en esta red social.
Saludos
you're one of the few people on TH-cam with whom I'd like to be friends in real life :)
I wait for your episode like i wait for game of thrones :D
hmmm... GoT has bigger budgets ;-) Thanks for the huge compliment!
you won "comment of the day" - I will tweet your comment right now!
anushka vaibhav same here! 🙌😃
Justine Leconte officiel it is not a matter of budget, it is a matter of talent!!! 😉🤗😃
If I had to choose between GoT and your videos Justine I'd choose your videos because they're actually helpful to my life
You are my FAVOURITE TH-camr Justine.
RedRock Asrama lol. I totally get that: it may come from assimilating easily in many cultures.
Me too. Add to that my fluctuating weight and you'd think if you looked in my closet that several women live here.
I found your channel researching a capsule wardrobe. In such a short time you are like an old friend. You me and a cup of tea! Thanks for the great video!
a cup of tea, any time! :-)
Oh,Sounds like a great time...May I Take a Seat?😍
*passes Katarina the tea😊
For 2016 my goal for the year was to buy no new clothes, in the end I had to buy two bridesmaids dresses for my brother and cousins wedding, but other than that I did achieve my goal! For this year 2017, my goal is to purchase more locally made clothes to support new businesses. Greetings from Ecuador!
sara correa Bravo & congratulations! :)
I love your picture.
Aww I love how justin considers her viewers from different countries and gives them helpful tips as well...I apriciate this so much
I JUST WANT TO SCREEM THAT I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! HANDS DOWN THE BEST!
cute :-) Thanks!
The particularities:
- Here the winter takes up much of the year so the ratio warm weather clothes - cold weather clothes is 1/3 -2/3. And for a long week-end in NYC, travel with only a 4L bag, ie: a medium purse (sorry, had to plug some minimalist luggage stuff in here ^^)
Phew, that turned into a long post...
Keep making amazing videos, much love from Toronto ❤️
thanks for all your support!! (Toronto is an amazing city!)
+Shirley Hook see you Sunday 🤗☀️
Shirley Hook She is!
This is extremely well planned and methodical! I am definitely using this to design my wardrobe. You make creating and utilizing a capsule wardrobe so easy Justine! A great video, as usual 😀😀
4 years later and this is still be best sound advice about how to plan your perfect capsule wardrobe ♥ thank you!
Your clarity is refreshing
Merci, Justine! My closet is crammed with clothes I never wear, along with core pieces I wear frequently, sort of an unofficial capsule inside the larger wardrobe. This series is the inspiration & professional guidance I need to clean out that closet & get organized. Solid advice, as always.
I adore the red lipstick with the earrings that fit your eyes perfectly combined with the simple black t-shirt!
+Anna Herz thanks!
Love this. No extra annoying bs just straight to the point with everything. I will be using this guide to create my spring capsule
I Love it when your eyes smile it's so visible and vivid. Your entire face lights up. You're beautiful:) very random sorry :D
+Katja M very sweet! Thanks 😘
+Elizabeth Rosalina Gultom thanks for telling me, and for your support 🤗😊
The template was really helpful! And as a spreadsheet aficionado, I ended up using formulas to automatically count the items per color in each module on one tab while having another tab to list all of my specific items.
Dear Justin, i have been following u for such a long time, i am from a South Asian country, i will shift to Australia soon, of course the style n clothing will b changed according to the culture n fashion there. U r my guide n ur videos r such a helpful guideline from where i am learning so much about fashion n clothing style. U have been doing great. I appreciate n wish ur bright future, health, happiness n success❤️
You have such a sparkling personality- I absolutely enjoy watching your channel.
Everything about you keeps me totally focused, I understand it and I am applying it.
This is the most helpful h'ow to' capsule wardrobe video I've come across after watching a large number of videos. Thank you so much!
I love the way you lay things out in a way that's super easy to understand.
You think of everything and cover everyone. Great tips as always! Thank you
I love you description of categories and making a list of things I need to update.
Find by breakdown below if anyone is interested:
6 bottoms: 1 black dress, 1 long black skirt, 1 pair of blue jeans, 2 pairs of classic black pants
17 tops: 3 sweaters, 3 fancy sleeveless tops, 7 monochromatic sleeveless tops, 4 pre-combined tops (shirt+cardigan sown together)

I love the way you talk so calmly
Hi Justine,
I deeply appreciate the thoroughness of the content in every single one of your videos.
Thank you!
Thanks!!
you are so natural and effortless. thank you for sharing! xoxo
I loooove her sarcasm... almost undetectable but still there! Great video Justine!
I also found I love black white and other neutrals, simple look.
I appreciate all fashion and others styles but it took a few years to figure out what I like on myself!
Your styling videos are perfect, and informative 👌
Thanks, Justine! Emerald green, as in those earrings, looks very pretty on you! Loved this video, Xoxo!
I watch your videos every week and I wish you great success and happiness thank you for the work you do
Amazing the difference a pair of earrings has on an overall look! I love the green ones you wear through most of the video.
Thank you so much
they are harder to find, but it's doable ;-)
I now have the opportunity to have a capsule wardrobe. Thank you for the info, not to mention how calming your voice is ❣️
Thank you Justine!
You really are doing it well.
thanks!
For example, Fall 2017: Red Red Red!
yes, red would probably be a good bet :-)
Great helpful video! My mom always said to have a dark neutral, a bright color and a light color. I used to have a navy, light gray (Dior Gray) and coral capsule. The I just changed out the coral when it got a bit tired. Then I added a charcoal gray for a change in the dark neutral. Love your earrings!
I enjoy all your videos from fun fashion, to ethical fashion. I get outstanding ideas of being more mindful when shopping for new wardrobe.
I really appreciate the way you explain things. You are able to break tasks down into manageable steps, which is very helpful!
+Cora T I am glad. I feared it might look like too many steps, but I preferred to go one thing at a time...
Loved hearing your tips and ideas on creating a capsule wardrobe.
Nice tips and the best thing is it's step wise which makes planning a capsule more easy! Thanks
