So what’s the go with the newer model truck having a Detroit? I’m Australian so I don’t know much about the emissions laws you guys have in America lol I’m just really curious
This truck is a Glider Kit, basically a glider kit is a brand new truck without an engine, transmission, or rear ends. We bought it from a company that puts the older, rebuilt pre-emmision engines and transmissions in them. Its a way to get around the emission laws since the laws go by the year of the engine, not the truck for rigs in the US.
@DrtyDiesel our truck is straight piped and we were thinking of putting a small performance muffler on it to quiet it down. We do long haul so it's pretty irritating. Did it make a difference in the cab with the muffler on? In terms of drone
@@JPTV3000 very true. I’ve lost most of my hearing in my right ear since I had a single straight piped stack on the right side of my truck for over a year.
I run a 25 inch resonator loud but enjoyable loud i tried straight pipe my ear drums were hurting after a day. I run Rockies mostly and running straight pipe Jakes at 1700 rpm for 15 mins makes your ears bleed
No I'm a company driver right now, wanting to be an owner operator though. Local fuel hauling is definitely what i prefer, its a fairly easy job with good pay and home every night.
Man that old 60 series sure does good with no muffler no muffler wins love the scream of a 12.7lL 60 series
I agree haha
I could listen to the straight pipe sound whole day 🔥

Was it even quieter with the muffler
It was a little, but the biggest difference was the jake brake. Which was much quieter with the muffler vs without.

@@Knots263 absolutely. With the muffler it was much quieter in the cab.
@@DrtyDiesel thanks. It's nice to listen to until the 10th hour. DOT hates it too.
@@Knots263 I hear ya on that for sure
No muffler = No hearing
I've got a 1988 freightliner. FFLC big cam 400 with no muffler.

I like both
How much horsepower does your truck have.
We bought it at 500hp.
I run a 25 inch resonator loud but enjoyable loud i tried straight pipe my ear drums were hurting after a day. I run Rockies mostly and running straight pipe Jakes at 1700 rpm for 15 mins makes your ears bleed
I agree, heavy on the jake hurts after a while
What muffler were you running?
Just a standard 10” straight through muffler. I think it was by Donaldson maybe?
what truck is that
2017 Peterbilt 579 glider kit
Are you a owner Operator ? Not sure if you said so or not. I am looking into local tanker.

Is the muffler the dpf?
Not on this truck, it's a pre-emissions engine so no dpf needed. On mine it's just a regular muffler
Can I straight pipe my truck with def
No,unless you get it deleted then yes
Most definitely no muffler
I agree!
I'd rather the muffler.
STRAIGHT pipe wins!!
Damn right
Ew a muffler get rid of it
