    Your shins are suffering because you're doing too much - either you're running too fast, not warming up and cooling down properly, or not cross training or ALL of the above. Running is not just about running! You have to switch up your terrain, have more easy conversational runs, do no more than 2 speed sessions a week and add in some hill work. Cross training and strength are NECESSITIES for us runners!! Its all about balance😊 Happy running! Train hard, train smart.

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Thank you! You are right, I didn't warm up or cool down. I should definitely start doing that when I start back running regularly. oo I like the idea of hill work, I will try that aswell. Thank youuu 🥰

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Eek... that training regimen could seem overwhelming and impossible to keep up for someone just trying out running. The warm up and cool down are important to prevent injuries and not be as sore, but the rest can wait until they've settled into a routine and gained some fitness.

    • @saramcintosh8330
      @saramcintosh8330 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Kelly_Ben Overwhelming.....maybe. Impossible....NEVER😁 As I new runner, it's important to be informed. As you learn, you grow. There's never enough information about running. Be open, be teachable, and have a willingness to show up and get it done❤

      @@saramcintosh8330 Spoken like a lover of running. Lol Many of us who watched are, but many people trying out running are busy, skeptical people who will never even give it a try if told they have to dedicate hours a week to running 'stuff' that isn't even running, or follow a complex routine. To them I say, get out the door, walk 5, do walk/ run intervals for 20, walk 5, stretch 5, and go about your day. Once they start seeing results in their health and fitness, and experiencing the feel-good endorphins, THEN they'll be interested in taking the time to learn more and try new things. But if it sounds like a part time job, it'll turn away so many who might have tried and loved it.

  • @Kelly_Ben
    @Kelly_Ben 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Congratulations!! On the time improvements, AND the weight loss! It takes some serious dedication to stick with a streak like that, especially through the sore shins and fatigue!! As a longtime runner, I fully embraced the fact that there's NO shame in walking. Once I slowed down and threw in walk breaks, I'm going so much further than I ever have, enjoying it way more, and not getting injured! Are we going to see a race video from you this year??

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! Yes deffo no shame in walking! How far have you managed to run? I want to increase my distance and would love to do a race this year if we are allowed. I did a half marathon 2 years ago and I still don’t know how I did it 🤣 I would like to try again, maybe even a full marathon 😱

    You did well. You could cross train and have recovery days when feeling that shin / ankle pain. You really don't want an injury and you will still progress a lot with only 3 to 4 days running a week. Plenty of time to build up mileage and run frequency once your body has adapted enough to do it with less pain ....

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you!! Yes I deffo needed more recovery days. I did feel better when I took a day off. I will need to start from the beginning and build up my mileage again now, its been a while since I've done a 5K lol 🥰

    There are preventative exercises you can do to help with shin splints and pain. Part of it is just because youre just jumping right into it, so it wont be an immediate fix and it will hopefully get better with time. Another thing I suggest is to try running more on the balls of your feet instead of the heels, this distributes the impact of your foot hitting the ground into the toes and calf muscles instead of your bones.

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Running helped me to lose weight all over so my legs did get slimmer. I would incorporate weight training to build muscle which would help with ''firmer legs''. I think it may help reduce the appearance of cellulite but would not get rid of it totally. Hope that helps ❤️

    Your walking pace is my 5k running pace 😂 but because I suffer from flat feet and pretty bad shin splints even if I walk fast but ignoring the pain as I can and foaming and stretching to get the most out

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤣omg the shin splints are the worst!! That's annoying that you get them from walking aswell 😭Do you find the stretching and foaming work a lot or just gives you a tiny amount of relief? Because by the time I finally motivate myself to get up and run, I cbb to add stretching aswell 🤣

    • @ellyshaker
      @ellyshaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JazmineAntoinette thank you for your comment ❤️well first time foaming I ran directly afterwards an that was a bad Idea it got worse but , if you do it afterwards it helps a lot and stretching with a band stretching the calves and hamstrings! I really almost cried yesterday because I couldn’t finish the run and I’m so slow but I’m never out of breath and I know I got the potential but the pain is unbearable . So I’m trying to run a 1k run with some speed no matter the pain just to see if I can do it under 7minutes so it will be better and starting with gaining speed first than distance. If I start something I gotta be good or okay , I really had to learn to not give up because the best athletes started somewhere too and you can have progress! 😌❤️

      @@JazmineAntoinette l think probably summer time. Because you are a new runner you will have to build up strength in you're legs . The shoes will make a difference , maybe you have been doing too much though? You will find some surfaces more comfortable and as the weight drops it will be less of a pain, l find trails rather uncomfortable because I always wear a road shoe. 🏃🏃🏃🏃👟👟

    Great job, but next time take it easy. To prevent and avoid injuries and burn out. If you can hear yourself breathing, then you're pushing too hard. I've been a runner for over 15yrs, and only once in a while do I do my 5ks in 30 minutes

    Hi there! Sorry this is a year late but if u happen to see this then I’m confused about your average paces and times. For a 5k, an 8 minute pace should get u in the 24:00 min área. Ala, a six minute pace is like, almost elite and you would get 18-19 mins, although your times are slower. Do you fluctuate? Just curious!

    • @livdelgado2954
      @livdelgado2954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for watching! I tracked each run with the Nike Run Club app and that shows the time and the average pace. I deffo didn’t do it in 18-19 mins. I think my best time was like 33mins. Maybe cos it’s the average pace?? Not sure 😬

    • @JazmineAntoinette
      @JazmineAntoinette  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh I just checked and on the app it’s the pace per km. So it would make sense that a pace of 8 per km would take me 40 mins and a pace of 6 per km would take me 30mins.
