    0:00 - Intro
    BAD:
    0:21 - Price
A colorado ZR2 starts at 48,000 - which is already a lot, but you get most everything you can want as far as options
Which is why the loaded as-tested price of my truck here is 52,600
0:57 - Simple stuff hidden in screen
And if you’ve watched my other videos you’ll know i’m talking headlight controls - yes, it’s true, the headlights are controlled through the screen and the controls are 2 taps away
But here’s why that isn’t such a big deal - as standard you get auto headlights AND auto highbeams…so you’ll RARELY need to access the controls anyway
If I’m honest I’d still prefer a physical control for the headlights, but I at least see what they were trying
Do I love that? No, of course not - but I’m not enraged by it either, neither thing will be that much of an inconvenience to you
    1:58 - Fuel economy
But of course they went this way for emissions and fuel economy, right? Then you’ll understand why i was surprised to see the window sticker with a 16 mpg average on it
I mean, my ancient 4runner with its ancient 4.0 n/a v6, which is notoriously thirsty was getting 17 mpg on the highway…
    2:54 - Rear seats
    It’s just small
The rest is actually pretty good
Seat backs dont open up, but they do fold up for more storage
You get nice vents back here, chargers, an outlet, and a manual rear window
And for $1000 you can get a sunroof
    Good:
    3:37 - The Offroad hardware
3 in lift and revised front bumper they were able to fit 33 in Goodyear M/T tires here vs the 31s from last gen - this itself is a BIG upgrade
almost 40 degree approach angle, just over 25 degree departure, and almost 25 degree breakover - all with just a hair under 11 inches of clearance
From there of course you have the Multimatic shocks
And of course from there you’ve got your more normal things like a low range transfer case, skid plates, and a nice touch you don’t get in the Trail Boss..rock rails
    5:22 - The offroad software
Then there are the drive modes, you have normal and tow/haul, but then you have 3 offroad modes - not even a sport or eco but then 3 offroad modes…can you tell what this truck is focused on?
There’s the offroad mode which is sort of a catch-all; 4hi, trail cameras on, etc
Then there’s Baja mode which is also 4x4 but with ESC off to keep the wheels spinning…plus a few more things
And then there’s terrain mode, which is what I remember spending a bunch of time in with Drake in NC - and it throws you in 4lo, turns on trail control, puts your front camera and underbody camera on, and it’s BRILLIANTLY done - rock crawling isnt usually my thing but this was awesome
    6:55 - Offroad Time Attack
    9:06 - The drive
And when you head BACK on to the pavement it’s pretty good there too
    10:02 - Interior details & luxuries
This historically has not been a place Chevys have shined, BUT they are making up for that now
The interior here is actually pretty nice and there’s a lot of attention to detail
And then all ZR2s get the Yellow interior stitching - which pairs perfectly with our Nitro Yellow truck here
The seats are comfy, except for the headrests, but they’re heated and cooled AND the seat coolers will come on automatically as the truck cools itself down when you get in - same thing with heating in the winter
    10:52 - Looks
And the exterior of the truck isn’t too bad either!
It looks badass and for more detail check out our feature tour video next week
    11:49 - Versatility
Well the ZR2 gets downgraded for towing to 6000 lbs - which is still pretty decent but the max towing for the Colorado is 7700 lbs in other specs
And then there’s the 5 foot bed with just under 1300 lbs of payload
But you’ve got the ZR2 detail, an outlet, and the cool tailgate cooler thing
    12:22 - Tech and customizability
You’ve got a lot of it here, and some of the best stuff is standard
Like the 11 inc h cluster which has like 5 pages of customizability
And the 11 inch center screen which looks great and works great
You’ve got google built in here so you get native Maps, Assistant, and even Podcasts htat aren’t limited to news like in the Sierra from last week so my wife can listen to her murders
Wireless car play and android auto here is great
    13:18 - The engine
It’s GM’s 2.7T 4 cylinder and for the Colorado it has 3 outputs
The ZR2 gets the high output as standard which means 310 hp and 430 lbft
The only thing to be ware of is that the high output here is rated at 16 mpg from the EPA
    14:47 - Outro

I ordered a ZR2 as soon as they let me. The only Tacoma that isn't relatively gutless is the new Hybrid Trail-Hunter and I don't want a hybrid, never will. I also don't care about Mpg even slightly. But that said, one of the channels I've been watching with the new ZR2 (or Canyon, I can't remember) said he got 30 mg on a highway trip. He was averaging 50 to 60 mph and didn't say he was trying to hyper-mile the drive. I was actually a bit skeptical, but I definitely saw a couple other guys on other channels getting around 28 on the highway in the Canyon with the same engine HO tune. I guess the ZR2 has the mud terrains so it might be harder to get mpg up in the high 20's but it's kinda weird that GM's mpg claims are so low when it seems really easy for guys to get at least up in the mid 20's on the highway.

@@2011buddylee front and rear lockers, most versatile and adaptive multimatic dssv’s, segment first 10 camera system with washing capability, more suspension travel than the ‘24 Tacoma TRD pro, better sleeker smoother infotainment system, fully forged bottom end and rigorous diesel rated testing for the 2.7L without the complexity of an extra turbo or hybrid system, which only gets you slightly more power in the Tacoma. But again it’s not even out yet so. Currently it’s the best. But honestly sales numbers aside, the old TRD pro was worse than the 2nd gen ZR2.

    • @RCian2000
      @RCian2000 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@2011buddylee yes but for the Toyota fandom their defense was always reliability, which the current tundra iforce max is littered with problems so much so the owners complain about them a lot (I work at a Toyota dealership lol) but as far as the raptor goes, it like the zr2 have more suspension travel which is a HUGE attribute and advantage of a sporty off-road truck. Really, a requirement for the consideration of being a better off-roader. The raptor, like the other raptors, have been true to the prerunner/ desert runner ideology, that the Colorado was doing first in the midsize segment, but like the tundra, the bronco drivetrain has some critical issues right now. I’m worried about it but as far as the point you were making, in particular the TRD, it may be quicker, but faster? Debatable considering they’re trucks, and all trucks even the full sizes are speed limited, because driving trucks that fast is fucking retarded. 💀 it would probably serve Ford well if they spent some more money on racing competition to find problems and bullet proof it before release like the Colorado. The truck that won with a bent frame 😂

I've seen people getting up to 20mpg with these, so, that's good enough for me. What I probably will do, is buy a set of cheap steel wheels (since they were REALLY smart and now they match the full-size wheel lug pattern), and run some more street oriented tires (Michelin LTX M/S - I run them on my RAV4 and love them) for daily driving (and they're better in the snow/ice), and put the knobbier ones on when playing in the dirt. I'm sure a LOT of the degraded fuel economy vs the Z71 with the same engine is from running these knobby tires. I also keep my tires at or close to max pressure even unloaded so that helps as well.

So I went to a Chevy dealership, knowing that the headlight control was on the main screen, and there was no knob for it. I was in front of the ZR2 and I asked the sales guy to turn the headlights on. 😂. I wanted to see how long it would take him to figure it out. Well, he looked around for it for about two minutes. He then left and grabbed another sales person. They both fiddle with it for a couple minutes, then they both fetched a technician.. I didn’t say anything during the entire time. The technician came got into the main screen and turned the headlights on. The two salesman said “why on earth did they do that? “ They both looked at me and I said, “ do I need to say anything?” AND whom on Gods earth would put the lane recognition on those switches under the main screen? There are three free spaces right next to the adaptive cruise control button. Who designed this? The lowest bidder?

I don't like how everything is in the screen, my '18 ZR2 has been a great truck with the exception of the touch screen. Right after warranty, it has become extremely glitchy...which is insanely common amung many different Chevy models with the same infotainment system. I've heard from owners of this new Gen, that they're already having issues with the updated screen. I paid $52,000 CAD for mine. When I built my current truck specs online onto the new model, it came out to $69,000 CAD. Beautiful truck, but I'll keep mine for now.

Great truck man. Congratulations. I wanted one bad but didn’t want to spend the money so I went with a brand new 2023 Frontier and saved about $18k. Been very very happy with this truck! My heart will always love Chevy though! Maybe one day I’ll get a ZR2 used until then I’m satisfied with my new Fronty. Badass Colorado man!

My Colorado was an automatic with the inline 5 cylinder. In the mountains, it would constantly downshift and rev to the moon climbing uphill. It would also make some weird grinding noise when descending that I never figured out. I kept it less than a year and traded it in.
I ended up getting a 2000 Frontier and later my 2009 Frontier.

If GM infotainment systems were infallible I would agree that the trip meter and headlight controls being in the screen isn't a big deal but My 2019 Colorados infotainment system has been the worst part of my 140 k miles.
Andre at TFL has demonstrated with his Colorado trail boss that they've been unable to solve those issues at GM.
That mileage is a joke and can be beaten (if barely) by a 5.3 liter Silverado trail boss and destroyed by the 3.0 duramax for less than 5K more, only the width of the Silverado can get in the way on some narrow trails..
