TRD Pro is capable enough for me, heck even a TRD Offroad would be. I would be swayed those directions due to the 2.4kw of onboard power. I'm sure Ford and GM will do the same in due time (especially Ford since they already have it in their full size), but until that happens I love that utility for camping and recreation.

I picked up a fully-loaded w/moonroof, paint protection, window tint, wheel locks "regular" ZR2 (in that blue) about a month ago (paid the $53 MSRP sticker), and took it to Mob for 3 days with 700mi on the clock (got about 2,200mi now). LOVE it! As a noob, the truck as WAY more capability than I do, and I plan on easing into the offroading thing. Considering that Chevy priced this into Ranger Raptor territory without an engine upgrade (95hp extra), I didn't feel the cost was worth it especially considering you're now stuck with the spare tire taking up space in the bed. I figure I'll put 34's (285/75/17 - OEM width) on the OEM rims and it should work without a lift and fit under the bed. Do that, and a skidplates for the diff and fuel tank, and I've got good upgrades to almost Bison level and saving a lot of $$. I don't need the jounce dampers. If they had put that inline-6 turbodiesel in the Bison stock or as a further upgrade for that money, I would have considered it. As is, no. I think the reason the last ZR2 had trouble on that hill was the condition of the dirt, no traction, just digging trenches, even fully locked up.

I almost bought one recently but given it's recent recalls and stop sales, even GM doesn't think it's even good enough to sell to the public. While ford performance enters it's ranger raptors in basically stock form (except regulatory equipment) in world famous desert endurance races while winning and setting records. Besides 35s and an extra inch clearance, maybe I'm missing something and you can help me out?

No you can 2-pedal so long as you aren't applying more than 50% throttle while applying any brake. He was literally goosing the throttle while his foot was on the brake, which was an old timer trick for trucks that didn't have a locking rear differential. It was completely stupid to do with a modern truck with front and rear lockers and a 2-speed transfer case. It's not even about control, which was his excuse. If you're applying more than half throttle, there is zero reason to be pushing on the brake at that point. It was stupid showboating that ruined multiple videos and didn't show the audience what the TRUCK was capable of. He wanted to show off his 2 pedal technique instead.

You want a performance truck that does quarter mile stuff buy a raptor r or trx. Everyone thinks these motors are horrible. It’s impressive the power and torque they got out of this new 4 cyl, but now it’s gonna be working twice as hard than a v6 or v8 would every day. I’m fine with the power and torque it produces, I just don’t like the fact it’s smaller and it’ll run hotter cause it’s lacking 2 pistons that would really help it out for simple tasks. What I want out of a midsize truck is exactly what the zr2 bison has, but with the engine power and reliability out of say the ranger raptor for example

But these new motors are pretty reliable for their size and power output thanks to turbos. The ranger raptor is also an amazing truck with its own share of issues but let’s be real. All these new vehicles no matter manufacturer are going to have issues. And we can thank the EPA for that. But we have gotten so spoiled and I think the hunt for more power is out of control. People want insane numbers and then complain about reliability lol. For a midsize truck I think the ZR2 actually runs really good and mine is on 35s already. Would I love another 100hp and torque? I guess for those who wanna go nuts with this, they could beef up the turbos, intercooler, cooling system, oil pump, fuel pump, ecm, tunes, and other stuff to the point they can get +100hp or more out of it. But then again, that’s adding more work for this little engine too. I’ll have to wait for someone else to do it first before really nagging on it. And yes, engines have definitely come a long way since 10 years ago. Both in good and bad ways, but that goes for a lot of things. I guess the other thing is the sound from the 4 cyl. Stock it sounds a bit like my mower, haha. However I’ve seen some guys straight pipe it from the headers all the way down to the exhaust tip and man it makes it so much louder. It’ll never sound like a v8 or even a v6, but at least with mods it can sound a lot better and more aggressive than it comes stock. That cheap rear axle Toyota started using in 2016 is a glaring issue right off the rip. Mine and about half of the guys on TW had rear diff howling that was so loud the radio couldn't hide it on the highway. They switched to Thai made Hino axles and the ring and pinion are poor quality. Might as well take the Tacoma straight from the dealer's lot to the shop to have a better ring and pinion installed. Might help a bit. And in the wake of the V35A issues, I don't have any more faith in Toyota's engine and transmission as I do the other brands. 2nd gen Tacoma was peak reliability.

When he's talking about "2-pedaling" he's referring to the computer limitation that you can't be applying more than 50% throttle while dragging the brake. You can applying 25% throttle and drag the brake to your hearts content, the turck won't disable 4-low. There is absolutely NO reason you would need to goose the throttle while dragging the brake in real world off-road driving. He's exaggerating how he's trying to avoid using the brake and throttle at the same time because he has ruined multiple off-roading videos with the ZR2 trucks because he refused to use the lockers and instead insisted on showing off how he can off-road the truck with an open diff. It was stupid and pointless, and he's acting like a big baby for being called out for it in previous videos.
TLDR: You can 2-pedal, the limitation is that you can't be gunning it and dragging the brake at the same time, which isn't a big deal because the truck has lockers and doesn't need you to drag the brakes to have traction or control.

What insight does the potential buyer get from watching a guy try to two-pedal around in a truck with the diffs unlocked? It really looks quite stupid to be honest. You wasted our time in multiple videos while making the trucks look broken, simply because you insisted on this two-pedal showboating bs. And deceptively glossed over the fact that you actually CAN use the brake while applying throttle. Ezra explained quite clearly that you can't apply more than 50% throttle while dragging the brake in 4LO. Was that really so hard to say? Instead you do this weaselly "long story short you can't 2-pedal at all" lie.
You try to make these passive aggressive comments about how it's "rolling back because wah wah wah I can't 2-pedal". Incredible. I have driven these trucks up steep offroad grades and used both pedals to prevent rollback without the system intervening. You can apply light throttle and use the brakes to prevent rollback. It's pretty pathetic how you try to exaggerate how you can't use the brake and throttle with finesse. I guess your idea of throttle control is either off-throttle or wide open.
