A sign of a great musician, flea let nile jam the verse alone while he held back because he didn't know the song. This could be the start of something epic, they sound great!
It is true ...music is a universal language. I don't find it odd that Flea was just as fantastic as his music mates. Rock on...and keep the positive vibes going.

polpterusdelhezi I don't find it funny at all. That would be like Flea telling Nile how to play the chords on "Under The Bridge," "Give It Away," "Scar Tissue," "Other Side," or any other Red Hot Chilli Peppers' song. Just because an artist knows how to play an instrument does not mean that he or she knows how to play every song. They have to either practice or learn on the fly as Flea was doing in this video, because every song is different in rhythm, timing and chord structure. No two songs are the same. What I do find funny, however, is your apparent lack of proper English grammar skills in your sentence. You wrote "flea have no idea," when you should have written it as "Flea had no idea." Reason being is because Flea is a person and you always capitalize the names of people since they are nouns. A noun is a person, place, or thing. You always capitalize nouns. You also wrote the word "have" when you should have written "had" since you are referring to something that occurred in the past tense and not the present. You use "have" only when you are referring to something occurring in the present tense and not the past. Source: Hodgers' Harbrace College Handbook originally written by the late John C. im german so my english may be not the best ;) but thx for the lesson. i play bass by myself, if the guitarist tell me the chords he play, i can improvise a accompaniment, its not that hard if you have some knownledge on your instrument. btw every advanced bassist knows the chic-basselines, its like every guitarplayer knows the jimi hendrix riffs.
polpterusdelhezi I think that's what Flea was doing here. As far as every advanced bassist knowing Chic's bass lines is concerned, that would have to depend on what genre of music they're used to playing. For instance, a bassist who is used to playing country music probably isn't going to be familiar with Chic's bass lines and vice versa or a bassist who is used to playing rock music, as Flea is, probably doesn't play that much disco stuff hence his improvisation here. It depends on the type of music genre that they're used to playing. My late father was a professional guitar player and entertainer for 50 + years and he and I used to have many discussions about Jimi Hendrix's riffs and my father didn't like trying to play them because of Jimi's heavy use of distortion in his sound. My father believed in having a clean professional sound that the fans would enjoy. Oder mich improvisieren Deutsch hier, wie Sie sind Englisch.
OK... that's hot.... Flea didn't know the partition, obviously. Neil gave him few instructions and Flea went along on the spot! Only a great musician could have done it!
You step in never playing with Nile and not knowing the songs you puke. You are tragic because haters just scream jealously and insecurity. I hope you find your way there Oliver I really do and no you cannot have some more!!!
Nile is so bad ass. He wrote so many hits. And he inspired so many guitar players.
Trueeeeeeee
We are family is awesome

A sign of a great musician, flea let nile jam the verse alone while he held back because he didn't know the song. This could be the start of something epic, they sound great!

It is true ...music is a universal language. I don't find it odd that Flea was just as fantastic as his music mates. Rock on...and keep the positive vibes going.
Damn, once flea goes in, it's just magical!

Its amazing how flea just 'adapted' without really knowing the notes. He did really well !
Flea gets an A for effort!!! That couldn't have been easy learning the song ON STAGE!! Porps!!!
He's human! What a relief!!

Flea has the chops and the musical vocabulary. Much respect due.
I saw him play the National Anthem on the trumpet at a hockey game.

By the way, I woulda LIT THAT BASSLINE UP on We Are Family!
It's a shame Flea didn't know the song... He would really appreciate the phenomenal bass lines in it.
Another cool thing FLEA did was his acting role in the cult classic movie MOTORAMA as a busboy!!
those shadows though.
Wow! amazing the flea got toasted by Nile😳
Did Flea really not bring a compressor with him?

Flea is good, but Im not sure if he could replace Bernard Edwards
To be honest he didn't know the songs. So this isn't the best representation of what he could do with the songs.
dockaiser . I agree.
no way is flea on par with bernard
Nile is playin clean chords do not need Distortion
Flea's on to it!!!
Se me lo avesse chiesto.. gli insegnavo il riff a Flea!

"Let's play a 2 chord song!"
*plays a song with 8 chords*
The 'and' of 4
@02:50 its funny how flea have no idea what to play, you can hear nile is telling him the chords, A G etc.

Christ dude, take it easy.
Jesus what a fucking grammar Nazi you are
OK... that's hot.... Flea didn't know the partition, obviously. Neil gave him few instructions and Flea went along on the spot! Only a great musician could have done it!
well, not that difficult, u get the chords, you play them
The muzungu is lost.
Flea just listen to Nile's chords!
Hmmm
don´t sound !!!
FLEA...You need to flee off stage!!! That’s Nile Rodgers you’re on stage with Son! You better learn to follow his chords!!! SHM
FLEA!! GIVE UP!! YOU ARE TRAGIC!!
Come on man really!!!! That's not fair!!!
You step in never playing with Nile and not knowing the songs you puke. You are tragic because haters just scream jealously and insecurity. I hope you find your way there Oliver I really do and no you cannot have some more!!!
Haters like U are tragic. Flea got talent in the 80s. Last Year I've been at Rodgers concert in Rome. And Sledge rules as ever.
That sounds terrible!
Flea made an ass of himself. A rocker cant play Chic grooves
hes a funker before a rocker you should know that if you know anything about him and the chilli peppers
a good muscian can play anything!
you're wrong brother
he doesn’t know the chord progression. this isn’t the simple progressions he’s used to
Flea did fine.
