Didnt golf last year, and went out for the first time this year. No range prior. I watched a number of your videos the night before and incorporated releasing through the shot that you stress. I always faded and sliced with loss of power. I focused on what you teach, and WOW. I was really driving the ball straight with a slight draw & lots of power for me. I have never hit so well, and it really felt effortless. A few misfires of course. Like u said in this video, I ended up to the left on a lot of shots simply because I wasn’t expecting such a nice consistent draw. It was a blast & I can’t thank u enough.
Clay, thanks ever so much for all your time and effort put into your videos. Your work on Rotary Swing all those years ago got me into golf and took me from a beginner to an 18 handicap. Now with your videos and more consistent practice I’m at 12 and couldn’t be happier. Thank you so much
You guys are the best on TH-cam. I've learned so much. I'm 64 and still breaking 80 on a good day. I just wish I could turn back the clock 50 years. Young players today have so much information to help them. Well done guys.
15:35 how the head stays over the ball. Watch the hat. Once again, Clay, taking notes for the next range session. So many of your drills have done me well.
Hi Clay; I was working on a lag drill & made an addition that really made a difference in holding it & not casting from the top. I put an object on the shaft that will slide easily up & down the shaft. Most anything will work that has a little bit of weight. I use a small piece of PVC pipe which I put slide over the shaft to the shaft end of the grip & take my swing to the top. You don't swing it there but just put it at the top of the backswing position. When you start down, if you cast or lose your lag, the object will slide down the shaft. If the swing is proper, still holding lag, the object won't slide until just before impact & thru until the object meets the club head after the impact area. This also promotes full extension into your straight line release. This helps me more with full extension rather than lag because if I have a lag issue it's that I sometimes hold it too long. If you find it helpful, feel free to share it with others as it really made a difference for me also to stop hitting at the ball rather than swinging the club. It makes me concentrate more on the object meeting the club head with full extension rather than the ball.
Focusing in-at the HOW TO DO segments of this tutorial, it is one of the best Clay´s on compressing the ball, forward shaft lean, turn & release. However it seems to me a little much repetitive on the classics mistakes often performed by us weekend golfers. This tutorial inadvertently shows some movement like one's Rory´s practice drills to gain hands speed: coming down (on the in-out path) with hard speed and bluntly stoping the club at thigh height, Rory does it with separate hands (hinged the right wrist as much as possible) to force lead arm to keep straight and keep the lag builded. Again thanks a lot Clay.
THANK YOU for making my golf iron game fun at 60. The impact bag drill has been a life changing event. I’m glad that you shared this incredible concept with the world !!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Very clear tips. Thanks for the information. I think your tip on keeping the left upper arm connected as I rotate is what I have been not doing consistently. Thanks
This is quite literally the best instructional video I've seen. I'm a new golfer and have watched many instructional videos, but they're hard to follow and understand. I've learned more in the past 26 minutes than I have over the past 8 months watching other videos.
im a super new golfer (less than a month or so) and im so happy i found him as early as i did. with covid cant get in person lessons right now so youtube is the next best thing.
You’re simply the best! You don’t waste time and you have actually helped me so much with my golfing skills. I wanna personally thank you for giving me an urge to come back to the golf course to practice more and improve :).
Great video Clay....can you do a video on irons off the tee...i have a problem...shanking or bad slices.. only off the tee, no matter my tee height. I know I'm not the only one with this problem...par 3s no matter the distance has now become a nightmare...lol...thanks again
Hmmm, there is really no difference in hitting a ball off a tee vs the turf. You tee it up to give yourself a perfect lie. Sounds like it might be mental but I would try to hit the ball off the toe. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Should the handle of your driver be a little up versus setting up with an iron where your hands are hanging more straight down?? Thanks great videos 👍😃🏌🏼
I have a small amount of arthritis in my thumbs so I have changed over to a baseball grip. I am trying to relearn the game after not playing for over 20 years and it ain’t pretty. My question is can I get lag with a baseball grip or am I wasting my time trying? Thanks for the videos. I believe they are helping me.
Yes, you can absolutely get lag with a 10 finger grip. The only difference between he 10 finger grip and a interlocking or overlapping is that your hands are linked together in any way. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
It depends on at which point in the swing. The lead hand is used more at impact and the trail hand is used more at around waist level in the downswing. Keep in mind that that's literally what should be happening. That may not be the best thing for you to feel. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
The more you get inside, the more you can rotate open. Are you saying that there's a direct correlation between shallowing the club and being able to rotate your hips opens? Can you expand on that a little, Clay? I feel like I'm not rotating my hips as open as I need to (maybe15-20 degrees). When I look at my swing from behind, I can see that I'm slightly over the top sometimes. I'm talking slightly. Usually I'm on the same path down as back or slightly below.
Yeah, if you come down steep then you have to make a compensation in the downswing to get the club back on plane such as standing up. When you stand up, it raises that hands which drops the club down. You can't rotate when you stand up and lose the flex in your legs. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I have the tendency to hit down on the ball well, but when i open my hips too much and hands are in front of the ball, the club face stays open and it shoots straight to right. Any thoughts?
I was just at the range and was doing the first drill. It was crazy, I was hitting the ball almost the same distance and felt more pure with feet together and a half swing, but couldn’t get that to translate to the full swing. I could not get my hands to hit the same, it was frustrating!
It's hard to say without seeing your swing but I would compare the swings on video and see what you're doing differently. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard I actually uploaded a video of myself hitting a couple balls in hopes someone would look at it and see what I could change for a better stroke, if you wouldn’t mind taking a quick look I would really appreciate it!
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard I even added a clip of the hitting drill. The ball went straight with good distance for not really swinging. Wish I got the same feeling from my normal swing!
Hey Sam, it can make a difference. We don't have a video that talks about it but there is a video that Dr Sasho Mackenzie did: th-cam.com/video/z3V8doDTXhc/w-d-xo.html. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Ok clay, so at this point I'm hitting my irons and hybrids pretty much dead straight with good distance. The problem is my driver and 3 wood, which I am consistently slicing very hard. I try to replicate what I do for my irons and do an in to out swing, but it's not helping.
@@mattbecham8795 well I'm left handed so if you mean basically left for me then yes, I believe my left shoulder is lower. I feel like somehow the problem may be the shaft being too flimsy, if that's possible to create a slice
I am no coach. But I lost my driver slice by opening up leading foot and lowering swing. Almost like a baseball swing. That allows me to keep club face square behind ball. Only off the tee though. All other clubs I have a high swing.
It's always going to compress but it's the amount of compression that can change. I've heard Lee Trevino describe it as feeling like you can't get the ball off the face. Like it's sticking to the face. You'll feel like the ball is on the face for a long time for the one that are really compressed. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
