Hey Pete, thanks for this video! Both cameras are pretty interesting, and I think you nailed it covering their pros an cons. Personally I like the looks of the X-T5 and the grip of the R8, the tilting screen of the X-T5 and the fullframe Sensor of the R8. Tough decision! The greatest con of the R8 is the crippled design to protect the sales of the R6II and the lens policy of Canon. I shoot mostly street and travel and although I really like the usability and the small size of the R8 (as a fullframe camera), I think I would opt for the X-T5 although I would prefer to shoot with a fullframe sensor. Given this, I am very curious about the rumored Nikon Zf fullframe camera😅.
R8 is not crippled, are you mad? Same sensor and af system, great video, durable body, its cheaper so off course its not exactly like the r6 ii BUT its cheaper than the xt5
Nice comparison Pete! For me, the lens selection and the price of lenses was a major factor in choosing my X-T3 two years ago. The better quality lenses from other manufacturers where just going to be out of reach for me as an amateur. The used market for Fuji lenses is very good. So, you can get really good glass at reasonable prices if you're patient and keep shopping. AF has always been a point of contention with Fuji bodies and lenses. And, sometimes is the lens that is the issue rather than the body. But, I learned to use back button focus and a single focus point and have done pretty well with it even on the X-T3. So, I imagine it's even better with the new bodies and their AF systems. Thanks for the info, have a great day!
Thanks Charlie! The AF in the new Fuji bodies is light years ahead of the XT4 and other older bodies. I've really had little issue with it working great other than wishing it was a bit stickier for sports as I said in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting as always!
Coming from, Canon, Sony, Olympus and Leica (background datum). I eventually settled on Fuji as the way I was going. X-T3, X-T30 with lenses. Now I have the X-T,. it seems to me to be the most proficient all rounder. Landscapes, sports, motor sport, studio etc. It just works for me, do it all @ a fantastic price point. The studio curveball is my GFX 50SII, I guess I'm now a committed Fuji Guy. For me the X-T5 is a winner, The Fuji system is a Champion for photography, bang4buck, IMHO. A top of the range Sony, Canon, Nikon, with their best lenses are in the £$ astral-sphere.
Thanks for the comment! I agree, the X-T5 is a tremendous value for the price point and very capable for all kinds of photography. I love mine. Eventually I would like a GFX body for my studio too though! haha
Hi Pete. I agree with your assessment of Canon lenses as to restriction on 3rd party lenses & as to the limited lens choice & cost/expense of Canon top tier lenses. Fuji has more lenses & are much more cost effective. Several of their lenses can rival Canon “L” series glass. I switched years ago from Canon & have not been disappointed.

I think you will love Fuji! The compromise is mainly in autofocus speed which isn't quite as good as Canon, although the size, Fuji colors, etc, are really great.

But I'm concerned about the sensor difference. Is APSC ok for daily use? (I never use APSC camera before)
Sure that’s a good comparison too. I chose the R8 because it’s the most popular Canon right now and I also wanted to see how the full frame lower res compares with the higher res cropped sensor.
What are some of the main reasons why you did not consider or compare the R7 to the XT-5? It seems to not have any of the primary shortcomings you mentioned with the R8.
It's the X-T5 for me. The cost is a major factor considering that my main income does not come from photography. It's difficult to justify spending on a full-frame. That and the cost of Fuji lenses are more economical .
I switched a few weeks ago from Canon RP to an XT-5. It may be confirmation bias after having spent a bunch of money switching brands, but I feel a full frame sensor is a bit overrated for most use cases. Also Canon feels like hospital equipment compared to the XT-5...I felt like picking up the XT-5 to shoot all day long (while I had both bodies) so ended up selling the Canon and a ton of lenses. For me the 40mp sensor allows me to crop like crazy (need to upgrade to R5 and spend twice XT-5 money for this privilege on Canon-end)-- I mostly use the 18mm f1.4 and end up cropping to get 35mm eq images with very little loss of quality and this particular fuji lens is phenomenal. I also recently bought the Fuji 100-400 -- it may be one of Fuji's heavier lenses, but buying an equivalent Canon 600mm is not only crazy expensive but significantly heavier. Autofocus is definitely better on Canon, but you can make do with Fuji given it's better at everything else. With AI noise reduction software, I would say that high ISO performance is neck and neck (canon's is a smaller sensor so fewer noise pixels). IBIS -- ah it's so great! I don't think I'll "need" a tripod for 80-90% of my stills. Today, I am good with my choice with the Fuji and its APS-C sensor. It could change in the future -- but I will still stick with APS-C.

Hey, thanks for the video. Can you please compare the image quality of the cheaper Canon RF lenses (35 or 85 mm f 1.8) and the new Fuji LM WR lenses like 23 or 33 mm f 1.4?
If you shoot using the EVF, then you are jamming your thumb into your nose lol. If you shoot from the LCD sure then it's fine but I much prefer a physical dial.
@@PeteCocoPhoto if its a regular joystick then it is slower, the canon r5 and r3 uses this touch sensitive to move around, much faster and sensitive that normal joystick
@@mbismbismb I have an R5 and still prefer the joystick unless I'm shooting from the LCD. But a lot of times I have the camera at eye level and in that case I find using the touch screen inconvenient because my face is against the camera
My last 2 shoots, I have been bringing my R6 and XH2. Sadly I have more misses with XH2. I have gotten now in the habit to take 2-3 shots per pose hoping to get a sharp one. The R6/105 had a 99% hit rate, XH2 was more 92-93%, more issues on the Sigma 18-50, the Viltrox 75 was better.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Not so much with WA lenses!. I have tried TX5 with 16-80, and now I have XS20 with 18mm LM WR, and both combinations give me to much OOF pics compared to other brands!
@@PeteCocoPhoto The lack of fine detail especially when subjects do not fill the frame, also the way greens/grass/foliage is rendered (looks like watercolor paint). I tried C1 which helped a bit but didn’t eliminate all the issues. I found out that running the file through DXO Deep Prime got me the best IQ to a point where I was fairly happy, but that adds an extra step to my workflow. I moved to a Nikon Z5 saving a ton of money in the process. The Nikon files are noticeable cleaner and sharper than the Fuji files.
@@FotosyMas. At the end of the day you gotta be happy with what you are using so you made the right decision. I haven't experienced these issues myself so it's interesting to hear the experience others have had.
You're not wrong LOL. I haven't seen the new Sony menus but I hear they are better. Fuji's newer menu is much better than the last generation but it still has a way to go.

You forgot touch to focus and shoot. And touch to drag on R8. R8 has electronic first curtain as well as pure electronic shutter.

I reviewed the Zfc and I was really impressed with it. Zf looks very interesting for sure.

Actually there is the option of "film simulations" with he canon with the Canon custom picture style editor. It's incredible what's possible with it!

@@PeteCocoPhoto An image is an image, we edit them. To edit a GFX image is a joy. The X-T5 imho has a bigger repertoire built as an all rounder.

I'm very happy with my X-T5. I still love the R5 but don't use it nearly as much nowadays.

Is the R8 sensor similar to the R5 for image quality? (Other than being able to crop more on the R5)
Both are full frame but R5 is 45mp and R8 24

Lens selection and price was the main reason I switched from Canon DSLRs to the Fuji XT-5

I used the Canon 100-500 RF L lens for most of the images in this review, not the nifty fifty.

Haha the X-T5 is actually very solid in the AF department. Not at Canon level though.

Just sold my XH2 and XT5. I hate the x-trans sensor array. Might give Fuji another chance when they decide to adopt bayer sensors.
