I been shooting with Canon for 12 years, then switching to mirrorless cameras for work I chose Sony ( which I onestly love so much). Last spring I tried for fun my first Fujifilm ever and I fell in love straight away.. now I own two and looking to buy some more in the future. I agree about the Fuji look, the design and the color that the camera produce it's what made me in love with these cameras.
For mirrorless I like Fuji and Sony best. Sony's more versatile on the lens options with adapters. I like the Fuji user interface best. And Fujinon lenses are always tops!
I have used Sony since the release of the a7 and a6000. While I think the cameras are workhorses, I don't enjoy shooting with them at all which is why I'm looking at Fuji cameras. The Sony cameras are awesome when it comes to autofocus and lens options but I just don't love the process of shooting.
Aussie here. 20 years Canon and most of it full frame with lots of L glass. With two young kids now, I no longer want to lug the heavy gear. Also, RF mount is closed without access to third party glass. With ridiculous RF prices, I felt trapped... Sold all my Canon gear over a period of 6 months and got myself an X-T5 and 18mm and 33mm f1.4 WR lenses. Super happy with the out of camera results. This comes from a raw-only shooter. With the Fuji, I am using jpgs for the first time in many years (I should raw + jpg). So much fun this system. The 90mm f2 is my next lens but can wait for a while.
@@lighthunter1980 i can really underline the RAW vs JPEG argument here. Shot Nikon D750 and D810 and Sony A7 II/RII/III after that before switching to Fuji over 4 years ago. I still shoot RAW+JPEG, but the RAW Files are just for the Archive on the NAS. Shooting with the X-H2 now, because i like the ergonomics, and the fact that i can have 7 different looks right at the mode dial is just insane. i got C1-C5 loaded with different Simulations, tone curves etc. for any situation or mood. C6&7 are reserved for my prefered video settings. No other camera can give me that versatility.
@@lighthunter1980 oh and if you're looking for a portrait lens (like the 90 f/2) also consider the viltrox 75 1.2 - its a fuckin beast of a lens. Ridiculously sharp, but with character in the bokeh - best lens in my bag together with the 23mm 1.4 WR
This was especially true in the early days before users started feeding back and making demands. Fuji gave the people what they wanted rather than what they thought they wanted with lenses that gave beautiful character at the expense of optical perfection like the original 35mm f/1.4 and the 18mm f2.
As someone who has shot Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Leica… my experience is that you can enjoy any camera system… you just need to spend the time to learn the camera to the point where the camera is an extension of you.
After 20 years of shooting with Canon 5D and 7D I'm waiting for my brand new Fujifilm X-T5. I agree with the feeling, photos with soul, film imitation and yes, lens prices. I can't wait to shoot with Fuji and share my first opinions. I'm so excited.
Yes; I made the switch in 2018 and have definitely not regretted it. I spent 50 years (yes, 50) with Pentax film and digital cameras and they had great sentimental value to me. The frequent repairs needed drove me eventually to Fuji. I bought an X100F and then an X-E3 with multiple lenses. I cannot imagine being more pleased with a system, not just because of the technical quality but because of the sheer joy of using them.
I went the opposite route, from Fuji to Canon R mount and couldn’t be happier. Most fun camera/lens combo what I’ve used? R6mkii with tiny 28mm pancake. The combo is basically a body with the best ergonomics and usability ever, but it feels almost like there’s no lens at all. And the results - oh boy the results! For me, it eats my former X100V and XT4 for breakfast. So, people have different preferences and that is good :D And for my professional use, RF L- lenses all the way.
Canon shooter for 17 years. Both but shooting both systems. The sooc images out of fuji is hard to beat. Canon is my go to 99% of the time for pro work. Then fuji if i want to be out there having fun.
I have been a Fuji shooter for many years. Just had to get a full frame Sony. When I first started shooting with the Sony I liked it a lot. But when the T-5 came out I bought one and that was it for me. I sold my Sony and the lens. For me the Fuji X-T5 was perfect for me for street (light, dials, small lenses), landscape, (light carrying several lens and the body), general shooting (the dials, the feel in my hands and the price of lens.) Post processing these days allows me to make final prints that make it impossible to tell the difference between full frame and crop
Hi Matthew. In my work as a photojournalist, I went from an Olympus OM1 film camera (yes, I'm old) to Nikon DSLR's, then Fujifilm launched their Mirrorless bodies, and I jumped ship with an X-T2 and X-H1. I retired just before the X-H2's came out, as well as the X-T5. I now use a variety of Fujifilms for my own enjoyment, often coupled with vintage lenses. I found an instant improvement with a lot less noise in the Fujis compared to my Nikons. And like you, I enjoyed taking photos again.
I've been using XH2 and XT5 for event work. I know that it gives up a little in low light vs full frame, but there isn't anything that I haven't been able to do with them. I've got 3 sharp and fast 3rd party f1.2 (viltrox 75mm) and f1.4 (sigma 16mm and 56mm) primes and the little sigma 18-50 f2.8 zoom. I'd probably add the Fuji 50-140 to the kit. Clients are very happy, and they've got zero idea full frame vs crop. They don't know or care. Which ever system, I'd want 2 bodies for events (redundancy and I usually have 2 bodies on a harness with different lenses and like working that way). The cost of 2x full frame Canon, Sony or Nikon and good glass would just cost a lot more. I'm enjoying the Fuji cameras, clients are happy and my wallet is happy.
I have the xt5 and recently I bought the 50-140! Is amazing, I'm loving it ! Obs: the battery runs low pretty quickly but yeah if you have more it's fine ☺️ I'm thinking in getting a prime lens but don't know which one, I'm looking at the 1.2 viltrox, do you like it?
@@xxatchinxx4110 I have picked up an XF 50-140 and used it at a couple of events now. Love it! I've got no regrets with the Viltrox 75mm 1.2. It has produced some of my favorite images. Very sharp and great quality. It's maybe a little slow to focus but not awful. I've used it in low light at f 1.2 run and gun at events and it's missed focus here and there. It's a great portrait lens but not perfect for fast action. There can be some ugly lens flare at times when shooting towards a light source, but I'm conscious to keep an eye out for that now.
100% the only reason I won't switch from full frame (tried Fuji for one year last year) is adapting vintage lenses. It's one of my favorite things and it just isn't as fun with a crop factor for me
I know this video is some months old, but about 1.5 years ago, i switched from Panasonic Lumix to Fuji. Even with my best lenses, the lowlight perfomance was so bad with the MFT-Sensor. A fried showed me some pictures taken with his X-T1 and I was shocked, how good they were even with this old sensor. So I bought a X-T2, which I sold after one year of usage and upgraded to the X-T5. What a nice piece of gear. I love it!
@@rudermanphoto yep... up to 3200 i dont care at all. Even up to 12800 if i really have to get that shot. PureRaw4 will take care of the noise if i dont want it in that shot, but most of the time, the noise is just like shot it intentionally like that. Like some film sims with added grain for the look...
I have shot Fujifilm for years and love them. In my opinion, my GFX 50R with the Fuji GFX 45mm lens is amazing and will blow away anything Sony or Canon has to offer. The Fujifilm cameras also give that wonderful, tactile, intuitive old-school shooting experience with dials rather than ploughing through menus. I also have the Fujifilm XT4 with the newer Fuji 23mm f1.4 lens if I want something smaller and lighter for say a bit of street photography. You shoot some great photos btw.
Thank you! I’ve always wanted to try out the GFX50r, looks like such a great form factor medium format camera, I’ve had experience with the GFX100s but imo it’s far too big to carry around with you, works far better as a studio camera.
not really agree with this, Canon have "Info" on any feature in the menu, where Fuji doesn't have details information with their menu item, some functions are disabled without letting user know why, for example, you choose electronic shutter, you lose the flash.
i went from Canon 5D2 and L lenses to Fuji, XT4 and 16-80. Then many other lenses, and honestly, 100% agreed with all what you said. I really love the dedicated dials, the aperture ring on lenses, the look of the image. Taking photo with Fuji gear is a lot of fun. And as a bonus, it makes GREAT photos.
I recently sold my 5D and 6D and bought an x-e1 and x-t2. No regrets. As great as the classic Canons are, portability, price and the fun factor make that I’ve never looked back and enjoy my Fujis.
I did. I sold my R5, my 85 RF 1.2, my 70-200 RF 2.8 and my 100 RF macro. With the price of the R5 body only I could buy the XT5 and two lenses : 56 1.2 WR and 80mm macro. You loose a bit of DoF blur but I end with a 85mm and 440grs lens compared to the 1200grs of 85 1.2 (which is perfect in terms of performances but too heavy, and too expensive). With the times coming , I prefer saving a bit of money and carry something very lighter. It is a joy. And the film simulations 😍. Now I take time to do photos and it is great.
Fuji color rendition and contrast push out the 3d pop effect so clearly, that you don't need a huge wide open aperture to notice the separation. I have 24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4 on my Canon R, but non of them can push out 3d pop effect like Fuji with 23mm f2 did. I was so confusing, that all along I was running after wide aperture for 3d pop effect and didn't know it was there with Fuji system all along from 2012.
Great video. I have been a Canon guy for forever. I do love my canons, and they have a place for professional work, and there are definitely things I use them for...but I just got my first Fuji X-T5...and I can already tell this is going to be the camera I carry with me everywhere. You are so right about everything you said. I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Canon R5, but i can definitely see it collecting some dust in the near future.
Taking photos on any Fuji camera is absolute fun. I always love shooting on a Fuji camera. Editing them is a joy as well. It’s a shame I couldn’t keep it.
Some time ago , I did switch from Nikon FF DSLR to Fuji X-T2 then X-T3 with good quality glass, and, I was never Impressed with the colors that everybody claimed were so good, JPEGs were over saturated (RAW processing on Lightroom was a challenge too), tried all the film simulation available and got overall frustrated, the only one I really liked was the Black and White (Cross?) , sold them all and bought into Sony FF and been really happy since, said that , I am intrigued by the latest announcement of the X100VI , I could use my A7CII for travel with a small lens, however , that still would not be "pocketable" like this Fuji would, I am tempted to order this and try to see if Fuji improved on their color rendition and this sensor is better than the ones I used in the past, worth the try, if not, will be going back to B&H ---the sensor size is right, IBIS a must on any camera, the big question will be if the lens is any good with this sensor and AF system ......that potentially could be its weakest point .....
Lightroom compatibility with Fuji raw files is now a non-issue, as for the jpegs - I don’t use them so it’s never been an issue for me. The lens in the X100 is basically a 23 f2 which is an excellent lens and pairs great with the XT5 so I think it’ll be great with the x100vi. That said, the price of the x100vi is still an XT5 plus a 23 f2 and I still would probably get that over it seeing as you get the two card slots and interchangeable lenses on the XT5 lol
@@rudermanphoto thank you for the feedback. my goal is to get a portable small camera, I already have several Sony cameras and lenses that are on the same size of the XT-5
I shot using Nikon equipment, and Fuji slide film for years, then digital Nikons. Since last December, I've been selling off old gear to simplify and return to photography from work, to hobby, picked up the XS20, and never looked back. I don't even pick up my old F100 at all. I really love the film sims from Fujifilm, and the camera size is excellent for travel. The next purchase is the XT5 or maybe their medium format camera.
Left Canon for Fuji myself too. I was T2i then M and M50 for mirrorless but left to go XS10 and XH2S. You should try some of the 3rd party lenses for Fuji too. Affordable and pretty good value.
@@rudermanphoto I wish I waited for that lens for traveling. I bought the tamron 17-70 and it’s huge. The plus side is it has VC, F2.8 and gasket. Down side is it’s not parfocal and longggggg.
@@rudermanphoto I got that with the X-S20 for my first camera and thought it was big haha. I'm not the tallest person, so having it around my neck felt kind of clunky and heavy. I'm thinking of going for the XF 23mm f2 and Sigma 56 f1.4 to replace it. I know there are so much bigger lenses out there (and it's super small for a constant 2.8 zoom), but I feel it still looks a bit ridiculous and professional for casual use when going out for fun with friends or on a city travel. I would love a 1.4 in the body of the f2 lenses, but I guess that won't happen anytime soon
@@drchtct really? Without the lens hood it looks so smol and hardly stands out in my opinion, but maybe on the XS-20 cause the body is tiny it’ll look disproportionate, it looked funny on an XH2s with a battery grip haha
@@rudermanphoto yeah it sticks out a lot visually on the X-S20 because of its small body I think. On the X-T and X-H series it looks more balanced. It's not large in diameter but it's kind of long and almost doubles the weight, it doesn't look like a casual digital camera anymore if you know what I mean
Great video Matthew! I just sold my good old trusted Canon 5D mk3 today to get another Fuji lens. I don't regret it a bit. Canons might have been a superior cameras but Fujis are what makes me to go out and shoot. Nothing is more important that this.
I mean, ive started following you because of your gr ii photos and bold terry richardson style portraits way before the switch so i don't think the switch was necessary but if you ve clicked with your new gear than ..good for you. Keep up the good work.
Shoot Nikon for past 7 years or so. It all started with a D3200 that my dad gave me, and I just started to shoot everything on it. Couple years later bought D7500, then Z5, when my hobby became my work. At the end of 2022 I sold all my Nikon gear (Z5+4 lenses) for Fuji X-H2s. The main reason was that I slowly transferred to video instead of photo, and needed good hybrid camera. Never regretted it! Fuji is just amazing, and I love every second with it. It gets the job done when I use it for work, but also it inspires me to pick it up for casual photography, and those film simulations… I fell in love with it. I think Fuji for me is just perfect in almost every aspect. Also, I saw in the comments that you speak Russian, поэтому напишу на русском немного. Спасибо за работу, отличные видео! Желаю удачи и потрясающих фотографий! :)
I started shooting photography 6 months ago, and I had heard good things about the x-e3, so I ended up getting it for 300 bucks and then bought a lens for 400, couldn't be happier, I've fallen in love with it, what a coincidence that our first was the x-e3
I agree with everything you said. I’ve had the Sony A7iv, R6 i&ii and now have the X T5 and X H2s. I enjoy and love shooting with Fuji. As you said the only slight disadvantage is low light. Other than that Fujifilm 100%
the reason im watching this video right now is because I just went into lightroom and wanted to check out my night time photos from the other day. And yet again they are so underexposed I may as well delete them. I took them on the fuji xt30 23mm. Is the only way to improve low light photos to buy a bigger sensor or always use a tripod?
@@dylanmartin9190 if they are underexposed (instead of just being noisy) then it's user error. A better, larger sensor won't make your exposures better, it will just provide better results in bad light.
Thanks, Matthew, for a really great summary of your switch to Fuji. I found it very thoughtful and balanced. I'm about 3 months into the Canon Fuji transition, and came on it very much like you did, via the lovely X-Pro 2 rangefinder camera, and a few Fuji lenses that I loved with it. I did not make the move to Canon mirrorless, so I experienced that big transition when I went to Fuji. I bought the XT-3 about 3 years ago, but it never excited me--I didn't like the retro style after having grown up with film cameras. Anyway, I bought the XH-2, and I love the IBIS, the viewfinder, and the much cheaper Fuji lens family. Like you, I don't do much video, but this camera is inspiring me to try it out. I have only two reservations about the Cropped Sensor format. First, we're working with a smaller sensor and even at 40mp, I think the Fuji sensor comes close to full frame, but it really can't match it. I've accepted this in exchange for the smaller, lighter size of the equipment and the lower price point on lenses, which has allowed me to have a much larger range of lenses than I could afford with Canon. Second, vintage lenses are designed for full frame, and I really love some of the things you can do with old lenses. Putting a 50mm lens on a cropped sensor gives you a 75mm, so it's hard to find anything that works well at 50mm (33mm needed) or less. On special wide angle lenses, like fisheyes or bokah monsters like the Helios, you lose a big part of the full frame image. Other than those two small things, the Fuji X-X2 and the lenses are awesome. There is also a growing source of high quality third-party lenses for the X-mount, like Viltrox.
Yeah, being crop sensor is an issue if you are using vintage lenses, but it can also be sorta fun to get longer focal lengths then you’d normally use - I’m trying out the Nikkor 105mm f2.5 at the moment and it’s like a 160mm lens on my XT5 which is really fun! Thankfully 35mm vintage lenses aren’t that expensive if you want something 50ish mm in focal length too! Viltrox is making some amazing lenses, very excited to try out the 27 1.2 and 75 1.2 at some point in the future! Thank you for watching!
Me too... I have an X-T3 with 23 1.4, 35 1.4, 10-24, 56 1.4 and 55-200 zoom. Recently bought Canon R6 with 50 1.8 & 35 1.8 lenses. The full frame image quality is unreal, but so pure and real life... the photos lack soul and character compared to the Fuji colours and customisation available. The speed of auto focus on the Canon is so incredibly fast and insanely accurate on eyes, is shockingly good. I don't like the Canon limit of 1/8000 (when I like to shoot wide at f1.8), my older Fuji can do 1/32,000. The Canon system is much heavier too. Shockingly the Dynamic Range is better on the APS-C Fuji by about 1 stop! Not sure if the Canon is for me... still early days in trying to find a LR PS editing style process to give the Canon more of a look/feel. But the IS on the Canon is wow good - handheld shots at 1 sec with no blur is just insane. The Canon metering is quite different to Fuji - Canon darker shots in general (midtones too dark). The Fuji exposures much more pleasing to the eye. (Easy to adjust in post, but the DR limits this slightly). Hope this assists someone else who is thinking of going full frame. It's more complicated than you think!
When the D800 came out years ago, I finally bought it and thought I had reached the top of the mountain. It was my dream camera. It also felt like an achievement. But I realized I just didn't shoot very much with it. I came to the conclusion that I really didn't like photography. That was until late last year I figured I would pick up a small little camera to shoot some stuff at a Christmas market. I chose a second-hand X-T30 and holy crap I immediately fell in love. I came back into photography with a vengeance and haven't slowed down since. Specs aren't everything. It took me going through building PCs, and playing guitars, to see the pattern of spec chasing. Always buying into the marketing of buying the best as opposed to buying what's right for you. That wisdom came with age. Now I shoot with my X-T30 pretty much everyday and the D800 is still sitting in a closet collecting dust.
In 2016 I left Sony for Fuji... Not because of upgrading but all my kit was stolen and I did not have insurance (I was studying photography), and a friend shot with Fuji so I could borrow his lenses. I had just enough money at the time to buy a new X-T10 (£500) and I borrowed his XF 35mm F/1.4, 7 years later I still shoot Fuji but now professionally and I still have that XF 35mm F/1.4. I don't care about APSC, Full frame etc as no-one when you produce your images asks what you shot with, pretty sure that the only people that care about what the camera was are people that spend more time buying gear than using it. Personally I am still using an X-T3 really had no need to upgrade my camera yet, we do use several Fuji cameras though from the X-E3/Pro 2 (not as often now mainly because we have more cameras than photographers) to the X-T5 which is used when focus speed and accuracy is important, but for most of the studio work speed is not important. I doubt I would ever move to full frame, If I was going to change it would be to GFX but even then I wouldn't want to carry that setup. The X mount is getting better by the day too, now we have quality 3rd party options (really rate the Sigma 56mm and 23mm) to add to Fujis already stella glass (well mostly, not a fan of Fuji Zooms)
Bang on the money regarding clients not caring wether your camera is crop or full frame, I’ve never had any client ask me what size sensor I use, in fact most are actually happier now with Fuji because I enjoy shooting it more so I think I end up getting better results out of it haha The 35 1.4 is a lens I had briefly when I had my X-E3 and it’s one I’m looking to get back into my arsenal at some point, I ended up getting the Zeiss Touit 32 1.8 instead and I love that lens but I believe the XF 35 1.4 renders a bit differently so would be good to have both. And yeah, the XF mount for sure is getting better and better by the day - I’d recommend trying out the Sigma 18-50 2.8, great little zoom lens and exceptional for travel too! There is really nothing neither my XT5 nor my XH2s can’t do that make me want to upgrade to full frame, for the money that most RF or high end Sony gear costs I’d rather spend a bit extra and go GFX, having had experience shooting with a GFX100 that system is absolutely unbelievable - but massive and the files are ridiculous in size haha
Totally agree with you on the film-looking images that Fuiji cameras and lenses can create. I’m not even talking about the film simulations, just the way the images are rendered ❤
Matthew - such a great video. Appreciate your voice and actually showing your excellent images, too! Am very curious to know your thoughts on the X-T5 vs. the X-H2S? Do you notice much of an autofocus difference between the two? How about build quality, anything to note, does the X-H2S feel much better built? Curious to know anything else for someone mainly interested in photos but wants the best autofocus available!
Thank you for the kind words! As for the difference between the XT5 and XH2s, the autofocus is probably 15% snappier on the XH2s, the XT5 will miss occasionally and doesn’t do as great for fast subject tracking, but single point on a still subject they’re both pretty similar - and very quick. Both are leagues better than my old X-Pro 2 and I have no issues trusting either to get the shot in focus. I’d say if you shoot a lot of moving subjects the XH2s might be a better option though it definitely feels snappier in terms of tracking. Build quality the XH2s is nicer, feels more premium - but I love the dials on the XT5 and it’s not like “cheap” feeling by any means, just not as pro level feeling as the XH2s. I much prefer to take photos with the XT5, and the 40mpx sensor is awesome, I like it more then the 26mpx stacked sensor in the XH2s (for photos) I don’t really notice a massive difference in low light performance, both are great up to around 6400 ISO, but the XH2s is probably a bit cleaner at 6400. The extra resolution and sharpness you get from the extra megapixels on the XT5 make up for it though imo. It all boils down to wether you want a traditional Fuji experience or something far more akin to a canon/nikon DSLR with the PASM dial, I even think the top LCD on the XH2s really reminds me of my 5d mark 3, in a good way. But yeah the XH2s is a weapon for video and I do love the CFexpress cards as well just for the sheer speed! Also the XH2s has a better EVF. Not night and day but the difference is for sure there.
@@rudermanphoto Matthew! Thanks for such a thoughtful and detailed response - really value your experience and perspective on this! What are you going to do when the X-Pro 4 comes out??
@@davedowe6821 would have to see what the X-Pro 4 entails! TBH the XT5 is pretty close to perfect for me at least, while I loved my xpro 2 aesthetic wise I didn’t use the OVF that often, and I absolutely hated the ISO dial - I get it’s meant to be traditional but the one on the XT is so much faster and easier to use! A solid titanium body would be sexy though…
I think it’s all personal preference, when I first got into photography I always dreamed of getting a Sony and I got my hands on a Sony a7 ii and fell in love with it, it was a dream come true, later on I ended up also realizing I liked Fuji cameras a lot too and now very much enjoy using both. Whatever camera inspires you.. USE IT !!
I went from a Fuji X-Pro2 to Canon R6. The Canon took amazing images, but it almost never left the house. I'm not a pro, but as good as the image files where, it was boring (and heavy) to use. So, I traded it in on another X-Pro2 (graphite edition) with there nice primes on an even trade. The files might not be as easy to tweak in LR, but I'm having a lot more fun creating images.
Have you tried Capture One? I generally prefer a Capture One processed RAW to Fuji’s own JPEG, although the JPEGs are almost as good (usually use Provia film sim). And I’m always amazed what it can recover from the highlights.
I went from crop > full frame >crop and honestly the ability at first to recover 5+ of shadows and highlights was cool, but realistically I never find myself running into limitations due to the smaller sensor size. It's far more important that your camera makes you want to shoot rather than it being a technically superior camera.
Full frame Sony guy here ranging from the 7SIII, 7IV, to the 7C. GM glass and third party. I picked up the X100V as they were becoming ridiculously popular, fell in love, just recently switched to the XT-5 with the "kit" lol lens, added the 23 F2, the 33 F1.4, and a Sigma 56 1.4. I am in love with the images coming out of it with those lenses. So much so that I have picked up a Fuji OCF trigger and started shooing my portrait work on the Fuji and leave the Sony in storage. I have even considered selling the Sony gear for a GFX 100S II... Yeah, I said it. 😂
I have an r6 and 24-70 2.8 that I used to use when I would do photoshoots frequently for others. I tend to shoot on my iPhone all the time now even if I have it around because I hate carrying it around and all the annoyance it brings me. I love shooting with my 15 pro max but hate my canon setup for fun. Hoping this resolves the issue 🙏 Looking at the xt4 or xt5 because of the film emulation and convenience factor. Like basically no one needs this crazy type of low light performance unless you’re shooting concerts all the time.
I switched to Fujifilm after 25 years of film and then full-frame Nikon digital. I loved my Nikons, not a bad word to say about the brand. My commercial work was very technical, I needed high resolution, perfect sharpness and colours, so the gear I had was worth every penny and I was earning enough to support it. But, the pandemic killed that business, and I was ready for a change anyway. I decided no more commercial work, I was going to focus on creativity and fine art photography. I had been using an X-E2 and later X-E3 for travel, and I just decided to go full Fuji. I kept the X-E3 and also got an X-T3 as a main camera. I still use both of them and have never looked back. I say this on a lot of threads - people obsess over pixels, vignetting, perfect colour rendition, light gathering, lens speed, all that. And they compare camera after camera, lens after lens on paper and with test charts. I was that guy. But life isn't about test charts. In the end, people will judge the photos you take, not the ones you don't. If you create a beautiful image, no one is going to care about the gear you didn't use to make it. Some people are concerned with technical perfection, and that is relevant in some circles, I get it. But for me, for being creative and exploring my world, I just need something fun and accessible. In the end, it's about using the gear that helps you get out there and shooting.
Agreed, fuji's 35mm f1.4 optically was one of their lenses that scored the worst on charts and tests. But the image quality is so pleasing - and that's what matters!
I know what u mean, I got canon for 7years. I bought an x100f for 4 ago and loved the film sims.sold it cause of the fixed focal length. I bought an xt3 and some primes and fell in love with it. iam using canon for prof. Work only. Xt3 is so much joy to shot and travel
I did the opposite. Had a Canon 5D Mk III, then got the Fuji XT3 with 16/ 1.4, 33 1.4, 16-80 and 55-200. Images were really really nice, when they were focused properly. The AF, especially the eye AF, was garbage. I couldn’t rely on it. Sold the whole shebang and got a Canon R6 with RF 24-105 f4L and the Supreme lens of all, the RF 50 1.2. Images are amazing and AF is amazing. This is my forever camera. I loved the Fuji, but it’s not in the same league.
I just sold my trusty 70D and picked up a X-T1 and I’m super excited! I hadn’t been shooting as much as I’d like just because dragging around a full size dslr with a big heavy 24-105 and then editing photos has felt like a bit of an undertaking lately. It’s also hard not to draw attention to yourself with that setup for casual shooting. I’m really looking forward to the compact size, and the film simulations for sooc jpeg goodness when everyday shooting. Then again I might hate it, so I kept my 6D just in case 😉.
Wow, when I saw pictures taken in Belarus I came up with a conclusion that you must travel a lot! Fujifilm lenses are incredible. My personal favorites are 90 f2 and 33 1.4. Their lenses are so beautifully crafted. I hope I'll get 150-600 one day.
My family moved from Minsk to Melbourne in the 90’s, I was fortunate enough to visit Belarus and Russia for the first time with my grandpa in 2019 before covid and the war, absolutely beautiful country, I had never been before but I speak fluent Russian so it was an amazing experience, I would love to go back some day in the future, although likely not for a while sadly. The 90 f2 is truly exceptional! I’d love to try out the 33 1.4 as well, I have heard great things!
@@rudermanphoto I am from Russia, I do miss times before this crazy war, too. I hope my country will have better days. A friend of mine is visiting Minsk today, by the way, for golfing.
@@kalistratov_photosI really hope so too, St Petersburg is still one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever visited and I long to return as soon as it’s possible!
I have to use a canon 80d for my day job and I hate everything about it. For my personal photography, I use an XT-3 and an X100V. Sometimes after a long day of shooting with that canon, I come home and unzip my Fuji bag and can feel the joy just come over me followed by a sigh of relief.
I had similar experience as you. I had the 600D, then 5DII then the R. The RF lenses are just stupid expensive. Yea you can adapt EF lenses that are cheaper but for some reason it just didn’t feel right and the size of it is just not balanced. A year ago I saw a very cheap xt3 with a 70-300 lens and I just thought I’d buy, sell make a bit of profit but I fell inlove with it. It’s an amazing camera. I now own xt-3 and xh2 and a few 1.4, 1.2 prime lenses. I couldn’t be happier.
Why do you even want the RF lenses? When I shot with the RF mount, I used my EF lenses and they were great. But like you I completely switched to Fuji. Shooting X-H2 in the studio tethered and it is marvelous (with the 50-140 F2.8 mostly at F7.1 and above 90mm). I have the X-H2s for video.
It was just one of the contributing factors, felt weird to use a modern mirrorless camera and totally ignore the modern lenses for it, but it wasn’t the main reason, the main reason I switched was I didn’t enjoy using the camera.
Xtrans sensor technology produces a more organic and "analog" look to images compared to Bayer sensors which have a very digital look. Additionally, Fuji has done an excellent job with film simulations. However, the full-frame sensor can never be surpassed in terms of low-light performance and dynamic range.
I went Sony to Fuji to OM Systems and back to Fuji. Nothing made me want to shoot like the X-H2S and the x-t4. I shoot a ton of Pro Wrestling and my images with other systems were ok, but everything on Fuji because I truly enjoy shooting with it, feel more alive.
Sony shooter here and after 4 years of saving and chasing 3rd party glass and 6+yr old used camera bodies to keep prices down, I've realized the huge amount of advantages I could have by making the switch. I can buy multiple bodies, 1st party high quality glass, get better video specs, spend more money on travel to actually TAKE photos.. The cost of full frame just wasnt adding up and that doesnt even touch on how sterile my Sony was starting to feel. Im about to make the switch!
This video is an example of how everyone values different things and has different preferences. The Fuji X-PRO 2 was the worst camera I ever owned. Also the Fuji prime lenses I had the 23mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 were both the worst lenses I ever used. Finally I never liked the quality of the X-Trans sensor raw files. If you’re watching videos to figure out what camera to get. Stop and rent the cameras you think you might like it use. This is the best way to know.
Exactly what I said at the end of the video, it’s so crucial to try a camera out for yourself before investing or even worse selling your old system and switching.
Got jumpscared with photos from Belarus, didn't thought about the place as a photographers attraction for sure haha. Nice video by the way, had quite the same reasoning going about switching to fuji.
Haha my family is all from Belarus, I was fortunate enough to visit it for the first time in 2019! Minsk was beautiful, loved visiting and would love to go back some day in the future!
@@rudermanphoto oh sweet pre-Covid times! Fingers crossed it would be possible sometime and situation in a region would be in a somewhat better place, cheers from Minsk!
I got into photography a few years ago for fun and shot Canon. Idk why, just the system that interested me. Overtime, lost the spark of interest. A friend of mine just got into photography and chose the Sony system. Never been attracted to Sony. I had my eye on Fujifilm with the hope to get back into it. Plus, I like how compact they are and will be great for travel. So happy with my purchase of a XT30ii and making photography a fun hobby again ❤
I switched to Fuji from Lumix. After a year I'm moving back. I thought there wasn't anything worse than Panasonic's DFD autofocus but then I met H2 and even worse H2s. Everytime I finally found the good settings for AF they released a new firmware that basically destroyed everything. Hands down on my new S5II, I have a camera that actually can reliably focus + the nice bonus is it's much cheaper including the lens. Yes, FF is cheaper and lighter than APSC plus the body build quality is just on another level.
Having switched from the XH2s to the S5ii I completely agree with your sentiments! The XH2s was fucking awful, most unreliable camera I’ve ever owned - it’s a shame this video is still so popular as my opinion has changed quite a lot on Fuji after my severe disappointment with the XH2s.
Man, I am right on the verge of switching, I cannot hold on to my beloved Canon anymore, thinking about how many moons sleeping with 5Dc 1Ds3 5D2 and R and tons of EF L lenses, and now seeing fun and character from Fuji X-T1, it is like cheating man, that feeling...
My view is most cameras of the last 15 years are great for photography and unless you need extra megapixels, the fastest/most accurate autofocus or a particular colour science/look, photos will turn out great if you know how to take photos. For video, particular cameras will do video better, there’s no question on that. I like the older Fujifilm cameras, XT-1 and XT-20 - all I need for photography and the photographic experience I am looking for. Recently got a 5D Classic and 6D and these older Canon cameras have their own character, outstanding image rendering and make you concentrate more on photography and not the tech in the camera.
For sure, in my opinion you can get amazing images out of plenty of modern cameras, just pick the one you enjoy using the most and whatever is actually in your budget and go take photos haha The 5d classic is an absolute beauty though, I’d love to get another one some day - the way that old sensor rendered images was truly special, coupled with something like the 50 1.2 EF…so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing the experience! I shot with an XH1 for 3 years and recently gotten the XH2 for better auto focusing. Still a very enjoyable experience. Been trying to do more shoots in bar scenes, any advice?
@@rudermanphoto I just did and its very informative, could you share more of experience in getting paid gigs? As I am just starting with club/bar photography, been doing it for free for awhile since local bars often did not have the budget or already had resident photographer.
I´m shooting on Sony since 7 years now, started with APS-C (6500) and now I have the 7RIV and thinking about getting a Fuji as a secondary camera for travel, vaccation and almost everything else where I don´t need 61MP
Man I really love this video so so much… I had a eos r and then an xt4 and love the Fuji so much! Recently purchased an a7rv and just can’t get into it….. I mean for work it’s nuts… can’t miss a shot but it’s so so un uninspiring to use! not only that but just really prefer my images coming out of my Fuji.. they are so pleasing ❤️ Again thank you for this great video makes me feel not alone!!! Subbed
Thank you for the kind words!! I’m glad others resonate with what I was feeling, yes these big full frame mirrorless cameras are “perfect” technically but man do they lack soul haha
I've used Nikons since the '60s but switched to Fuji recently. It's more compact and a fun camera. However, I won't part with my older Nikon D700 and D4. They are real beasts but the color rendition is excellent.
I liked my R6 but it always felt like it was missing something. I also felt like I couldn’t get the photo settings fleshed out. RF lenses are crazy high. The highlights in 10bit Clog-2 had deceptively horrible roll off. To top it off they never solved the overheating in 4k even in 24p.
I have an X-T3 and find frustrating to not have what the X-H2 provides (custom settings) but with mechanical wheels that can be overridden by a custom setting (maybe with a red led at the centre if the physical value is no longer relevant (unless you move it and it overrides the custom settings). I would be very interested in a video on the difference in shooting with one or the other. I am not a pro, and if an animal pop his head, I don’t have the memory muscles to switch to AF-C, shutter speed to 1/2000, continuous shooting, etc… unless every time I switch off the camera after taking a photo on a hike, I prepare the camera for a jump scare. On the other side, I feel, I’ll miss the wheels. Maybe I should first at least put them on the right hand front and rear dial and stop using them…. Don’t know. Also I am thinking at switching to Sony because I am not a pro and having an exceptional auto focus would let me shoot with aperture priority, expose to the right and focus on finding opportunities and framing…
Well I do enjoy using the XT5 for photos due to the analog wheels, I feel it’s actually faster for me to quickly flick between settings then using the dials on the XH2s - as for custom settings, I’ve only got them setup for video where I think the different frame rates etc make sense, I’ve never really been in a situation where I’ve had to drastically change camera settings that quickly that the custom settings would be a lifesaver for me, but I can imagine where it may be needed, just a bit of practise though and the wheels can be extremely quick and easy to use though since you can immediately see what setting you want to go to and just flick towards it rather then using the front and rear dials to slowly flick through every speed to get to your desired one.
Hi Matthew Ruderman I have view your video on the XH2S I know how yr feeling and stressed with the S. I plan to purchase the XH2S but after hear yr explanation I change my mind. Can I check With you did XT5 or XH2 worth buying. Because you have use both camera. Tks
It depends on your use case - if you will be doing a lot of video I would honestly just go for a full frame option instead, like a Lumix S5ii, that’s what I did and I’m super happy! The XH2s feels a bit underbaked for how expensive it is and honestly unless you absolutely need a stacked sensor I would avoid it unless you can get it for cheap. If you are purely photography oriented the XH2 will be a much better quality XT5 but it does lack a bit of the “fun” that the XT5 offers with shooting so it’s all up to your own needs and what you are looking for with the camera!
I appreciate yr response and feedback suggestions. What I know Sony A7R5 is much better compared to to Fujifilm The Af detection very good but the price wise to expansive even the lens. That why as beginners I prefer to choose Fujifilm because or simülation. For video I need it not for professional so may be I choose XH2 or XT5 for low price or I view the Lumix S5ii first. Ok my last Question between XH2 & X-T5 which better. So I can decided tks
@@LenSaPrinz they are identical performance wise the difference between them is how they operate - if you’ve never shot with a Fuji before and want a more traditional PASM layout the XH2 is the one to get but if you want a more “fun” and traditional Fuji experience the XT5 is the one to get. They both cost roughly the same so maybe see if you can handle them in person and see what you prefer.
Very good points, I agree (I’m also a fuji lover since a long time 😅) I already have a XT5, loving it, but i want a second camera for my professional shoots (documentary style). So a second camera for having a back up, but not only. Also for having one prime on each body (as I don’t like zoom), carrying both cameras with a double strap. First I was going for another XT5. Same ergonomics, same tactile memories for using both, it seems the natural way to go. However, the XH2 or XH2s could be a good choice too, especially in order to use bigger lenses on it (potentially a 50-140. The 18mm will be mainly sticked to the XT5, and longer focals lengths on my future second body, XT or XH) but I know there is a good grip available for the XT5 (even if it’s not a battery grip). I’m also afraid that I could get confused in the different ergonomics with one XT5 in my left hand and one XH2 in my right 😅 but I probably could get used to it. I don’t do video neither BUT it’s an option in the future so having the XH2(s?) specs could be a good thing indeed. Any thoughts on that? Do you shoot with one body only and do you use your XH2s only for video? Thanks :)
If you want to keep your images looking the same go for the XH2, seeing as they share the same sensor and both will give you great resolution - you’ll get the benefit of being able to take advantage of super fast CFexpress speeds too! I use my XH2s for lots of photo work, most notably events and stuff where resolution isn’t critical but speed and performance is, and I absolutely love it for photos too, but the resolution difference between the it and the XT5 is noticeable and I personally prefer the XT5 files - but the XH2s is amazing too, just depends on wether you plan on using it for video because it’s like $800 more then the XH2 and if you don’t plan on shooting video you’d probably be better suited to just going the XH2. If you do hope to shoot video eventually then I can whole heartedly recommend the XH2s, it’s the best hybrid camera I’ve ever used and I absolutely love it!!
@@rudermanphotovidéo is a possible option for the future but I’m very much into photography mainly :) so I guess I hesitate between a second XT5 or a XH2. I still will be able to do little video work if I need too. And if in the future video becomes more important i will consider the question at this time, I think. Not an easy choice , I’ll probably go with two XT-5 as I love the dials too 😅
Hey Matt. Very much enjoyed the review. Am curious as to whether the recent XT5/XH2 firmware updates have made any difference to your autofocus evaluation?
I have noticed the XH2s seems to be maybe 10% better now - it’s certainly improved with the latest firmware updates but I still don’t think it’s quite as good as my old R6 was.
I only wish the af was slightly better on fuji, other than that fuji is also pretty good in low light for an aps-c especially with a stabilized lens combined with the ibis if you have steady hands, just make sure you use capture one to work on the raf files. What boggles my mind is that images with almost 2 stops over exposed can be saved while on canon those files would be gone forever. I also come from canon (dslrs) and the lack of 3rd party lens support on canon mirrorless cameras made me switch, I don't regret my choice.
While when I had my XE3 I noticed that Capture One processed the raws better, with the latest Lightroom updates I don’t notice any difference in the raw processing for Fuji files tbh.
Buddy, perfect video, thanks, one question so, which one do you use more? XT5 or Fujifilm X-H2s? or srry Fujifilm X-H2? )) thanks, wait for more you're video's
Thank you! It depends really, I use the XH2s a lot as it’s my primary video camera and it’s also very good for photos, but I prefer using the XT5 when it comes to just doing photography.
Fuji is tempting, extremely capable and just a likeable brand. But switching systems has to be carefully thought through. Do you adapt easily to new UIs? What lenses are you going to use? Are there rental options for those special occasions nearby? I was very tempted with Fuji in the past and again when I was ready to leave the F mount. But it was clear for me I wanted a 24-105/120 equivalent zoom to be on the body 70% of the time and a 100-400 20%, the rest with primes. Fuji took forever to deliver a 16-80 and that lens didn't turn out to be great. The 70-300 didn't exist. So I went the Z6 route and couldn't be happier. I use the 100-400 a lot more than I initially thought I would and the 24-120 is excellent as well, as is the 50/1.8 that I threw in, though I hardly use it since the opportunities don't arise as often. The EVF was a pleasant surprise. I can go and rent most other Z-mount lenses, while the selection of X-mount alternatives is very limited. On top of it I didn't have to fight 15 years of muscle memory.
I went in 2019! My family is Belarusian so I speak Russian fluently and it was nice to visit the homeland for the first time ever (I also visited Minsk and Moscow) - I loved it, St Petersburg is the most beautiful city I’ve ever visited, would love to go back some day!
Been shooting Fuji professionally since 2018. Pro for almost 40 years. Currently use the X-T5 as my main. I'd never go back to Canon or even Nikon. My associates shoot Sony. Eh. Yes, high ISO can be noisy. But I ask people "How large are you going to use that 6400 ISO image?" I shoot mostly corporate events. Most image go no bigger than a computer screen. My headshots and portraits (ISO 125) are so beautiful. Why pay those ridiculous prices for Canon/Nikon and Sony?
Depends entirely on what you want from your camera - if you rely on a camera to work no matter the situation it’s hard to beat a Sony - but if you want to have fun the Fuji is a great choice! Since making this video I have gotten back into full frame and now shoot with a S5ii for my professional work keeping the Fuji for fun recreational photography and I think it works great that way, right tool for the right job.
Great video! I bought in to the Sony system. Technically great cameras. I’m only on an A7RIII, and it still does 90% of what I need. However, I agree with you about the lack of soul. No matter how I dress it up, it just never feels fun in the hand. It’s just a tool! I want an old X-E1 or Pro1. Just for my everyday enjoyment. Though I always keep my eye on the new stuff they put out!
My Fuji purchase was mostly a financial decision. I wanted to move from using my phone to a "real camera". When I began my research and shopping it became painfully clear that so many of the popular name equipment was way out of my budget as an amateur/enthusiast. But, I kept researching and eventually found videos about Fuji equipment. After lots of research and patient shopping I settled on the X-T3 about three years ago now. When I saw it I was taken back to the last "real camera" I used and still have, my Ricoh X-RP film camera from 1984. The controls on top were familiar. So, I shopped and shopped and shopped and finally found a barely used kit package with the 18-55, a grip and extra batteries for much less that the price of just a body for the big name brands. I still use it and it's still more than enough camera for me. I was able to then patiently shop for good deals on lenses and have since purchased barely used copies of the xf56mm f1.2 and the xf90mm f2 at great prices(both under $500 U.S.). The 56 was still under warranty as it was less that 6 months old. I've been really happy with my choice. The X-T3 is a really capable camera that has allowed me to learn and grow without having to sell a kidney!! LOL! Happy New Year to you!
AGREED! I really want to go back to Sony [A7iii] or consider Nikon [Zf], however, I have the same issue: Fuji is just so light, reasonably small, affordable, and crisp - I've had to develop tactics around its shortcomings: glitchy autofocus and lower dynamic low-light range. But in the end, applying tactics to overcome shortcomings has been worth it in terms of IQ, ease of use, and portability. One pet peeve: why can't Fuji develop a 56mm f1.4 or f1.6 LM WR? The 50mm f1.0 is a frankenlens [on par with FF weight / heft] and the new 56mm f1.2 is just too much bulk for an APS-c system.
The ZF is one hell of a tempting camera, it’s a shame there’s hardly any matching retro designed Nikon autofocus lenses, although with how great the Ai and Ai-s lenses are I’d be content just using vintage 80’s Nikkor glass on it given its sensational manual focus assist!
Nice video. I switched from Fujifilm to Canon for the reverse reasons basically. 😂 Here's my experience in case it's interesting: I've been shooting Fujifilm for about a decade and with this new price hike and the discontinuation of their compact models, I jumped ship. I was never personally a fan of the colours, ISO invariant low light performance, or AF confidence. I usually shoot in P mode because their P mode is fantastic, so I wasn't using the dials except in the 1% of cases when I had to go full manual. I also don't really require big expensive lenses, so equivalent primes with brighter apertures are cheaper on full frame than Fujifilm. The final nail in the coffin was that the R8 is the same size and about 30g lighter than the X-S20, while only $200USD more expensive. I'm still concerned I might not be a fan of Canon colours, but there are far more customization options in-camera with the bonus of uploading your own curves and HSL from camera window on your PC. Eitherway, compared to the X-T5 with the 23f1.4 or the 23f2, the Canon is smaller, lighter, cheaper, and has better AF and low light. With the added bonus of being able to spend more to get more in the future if I want a more expensive, higher performing 35. Still all that said it was a toss up between the R8 and the Nikon Z30 and the 24f1.7 because I just wanted something small with better AF than Fujifilm at half the price basically. The R8 might be overkill, but it looked like good value to me. 😂
You have some amazing lens options available to you in the EF-S range, notably the iconic Sigma 18-35 1.8 which I long to be made in Fuji mount! (I know you can adapt it thru a $400 fringer adapter but native mount would be sweet) It’s all about what works for you, to be honest with you I haven’t had much experience with the newer lower tier Fuji’s like the X-S20 so i don’t want to comment on their usability, but I know with Canon it was a camera that more or less “just worked” and I think the R8 will serve you very well for many years to come!
@@rudermanphoto I know what you mean. Everyone prioritises something intangible, and it makes a difference whether they'll bring the camera out or leave it on the shelf. For me that thing is compact size. I have a Ricoh GR III which I bought when I got tired of waiting for the X-E4 to come back into stock. It's pretty unbeatable in that department. So I only got the I the R8 to supplement it with a couple primes and low light performance. I really wanted the R6II specs, but know I would leave the R6II at home for the extra weight. I understand the choice to go with Fujifilm especially as a working photographer. It's as good a choice as any, I just enjoyed the difference of direction. ✌️
@@-grey the GRiii is a beast! I had one back when they first came out and loved the images it could produce but got rid of it for the older GRii because I really wanted the built in flash, although the results the iii was capable of was just *chefs kiss*
I sold my Fuji X to buy the Nikon D810, and now I'm about to buy the Nikon Zf, to get full frame as well as retro. I would never ever use Fuji again, it had so many issues and the RAW files were really bad in low light.
What Fuji did you have? The modern Fuji sensors in the X-T5, XS20 and XH2/s have vastly improved low light performance vs the older cameras, although the Zf does look amazing as well.

Fuji doesn't design their cameras and lenses to test well on charts, it's purely for image quality and the creative process. I love it!
Very true!
Your words contains a kernel of truth but Fuji went straight to my heart.
I got a Fuji cuz no matter what it was my Sony always made shooting feel like work instead of “fun”

Preach. Switched from the Nikon D3000 to the original x100 and now XT5. Loving the journey
The XT5 is amazing.
Should I buy the Viltrox 13mm?
So, people have different preferences and that is good :D
And for my professional use, RF L- lenses all the way.
So it should for the price and size difference
Canon shooter for 17 years. Both but shooting both systems. The sooc images out of fuji is hard to beat. Canon is my go to 99% of the time for pro work. Then fuji if i want to be out there having fun.
@bigd7696 let’s go buy a second lens something a bit more practical. Say something for street and portrait aprox 18-50/55 or 24-70/85 😉
I have been a Fuji shooter for many years.
What lenses have you got for your XT5? What’s your favourite?
This is exactly the conversation I'm having in my head, Matt. Thanks for this.
Me too
And like you, I enjoyed taking photos again.
hell ya OM1. I shoot an OM2n. Best vintage SLR. Killer glass. I shoot my OM lenses on my fuji. Love that camera.
@@urwholefamilydied Adaptors are great on mirrorless cameras, a whole new (old) world of glass to play with.
X-T5 here, I think there isn't a better camera for street photography right now ❤and it's gorgeous to see and yes, it's so fun shooting with it!
Love hearing the "It's not about the sensor" argument. Hope to see more videos from you soon!
Thank you for the kind words! I have plenty more content coming in the near future!
100% the only reason I won't switch from full frame (tried Fuji for one year last year) is adapting vintage lenses. It's one of my favorite things and it just isn't as fun with a crop factor for me
Viltrox speedbooster! That was my solution for keeping my Helios on my a6500.
Which 35mm full frame? Because you could easily go GFX at great prices these days on used bodies!
Same here. I enjoy my cheap LUMIX s5 with my vintage glass and laugh about the bad autofocus. But I still enjoy my low profile Fuji gear.
Team Fujifilm here too after trying all the other main brands 📸 🙌!
I love it!
The X-T5 is such a beast hey! Low light performance on Fuji has really caught up to nearly FF levels! It’s so good
@@rudermanphoto yep... up to 3200 i dont care at all.
I grew up shooting canon, but I can’t get over the massive expensive of RF lenses. I’m also considering jumping ship to Fujifilm.
@@UP209D interesting!
I have the sigma 18-50 2.8 and it is an amazing lens! So compact too
@@rudermanphoto I wish I waited for that lens for traveling.
Long time, many decades shooter with Canon. Switched to Fujifilm cameras & invested heavily in their lens lineup. Have NO regrets.
Спасибо!)
I’ve been with Sony for 9 years. Just 3 months ago I made a full jump to Fuji and I LOVE IT.
switched to Fuji myself, was great and loved it but missed full frame bokeh, low light iso and overall image quality that you only get with full frame
I started shooting photography 6 months ago, and I had heard good things about the x-e3, so I ended up getting it for 300 bucks and then bought a lens for 400, couldn't be happier, I've fallen in love with it, what a coincidence that our first was the x-e3
Still such an amazing camera! I miss how compact and small it was haha
Great price!

I agree with everything you said. I’ve had the Sony A7iv, R6 i&ii and now have the X T5 and X H2s. I enjoy and love shooting with Fuji. As you said the only slight disadvantage is low light. Other than that Fujifilm 100%
Is the autofocus accurate and fast on the XT-5?
the reason im watching this video right now is because I just went into lightroom and wanted to check out my night time photos from the other day.
Bang on the money regarding clients not caring wether your camera is crop or full frame, I’ve never had any client ask me what size sensor I use, in fact most are actually happier now with Fuji because I enjoy shooting it more so I think I end up getting better results out of it haha
The 35 1.4 is a lens I had briefly when I had my X-E3 and it’s one I’m looking to get back into my arsenal at some point, I ended up getting the Zeiss Touit 32 1.8 instead and I love that lens but I believe the XF 35 1.4 renders a bit differently so would be good to have both.
I’m not even talking about the film simulations, just the way the images are rendered ❤
a nice thing about the fuji 100 mk 6 - take it anywhere. many events don't allow "big pro style" cameras in.
I much prefer to take photos with the XT5, and the 40mpx sensor is awesome, I like it more then the 26mpx stacked sensor in the XH2s (for photos)
I don’t really notice a massive difference in low light performance, both are great up to around 6400 ISO, but the XH2s is probably a bit cleaner at 6400.
USE IT !!
Nice video bro. I made a switch too from Nikon FX to Fuji line-up. XT series are fast and light, perfect for weddings!
The GFX100s II is an absolute weapon!! I don’t blame you at all for wanting to make that switch haha
I use both Sony a7IV and Gfx 100s, and yea, I am considering the Gfx 100 ii as well. :D It's just too good of a camera 😍
Hoping this resolves the issue 🙏
Looking at the xt4 or xt5 because of the film emulation and convenience factor.
Great video mate. Thank you. Helpful and entertaining.
Thank you!
What camera is at 4:00 ? I heard you say its the XH2-s but I can’t seem to find it. Thanks! Great videos!:)
It’s the Fujifilm X-H2s! It might look funny because I have a cage on it :)
I am using a sony a6300 for almost 4 years now and did some smaller jobs here and there, but i really considering changing to Fuji this year.
I wonder how many Fujis and Sonys the lack of third party glass for the RF mount has sold.
i also came from canon r6 m 2 to fuji xt5. I am enjoying photography even more.
👏 so happy to hear! I think an XT plus an XH is such a great combo!
Hi Matthew , just subscribed in London , great video , you did not mention Nikon once , love your photos , some hot …😎
It really is just so much more fun to shoot with Fuji! And yeah I notice because I’m enjoying using it my photos subsequently look so much better!
Glad to hear it! You’re going to love it!!
Looking forward to change every of my canon equip for x-T6 in the future
I switched cameras a lot in the past - finally I own the Fuji XT-5 and keeping it. There is just something to Fuji that goes beyond technical specs.
For sure, in my opinion you can get amazing images out of plenty of modern cameras, just pick the one you enjoy using the most and whatever is actually in your budget and go take photos haha
The 5d classic is an absolute beauty though, I’d love to get another one some day - the way that old sensor rendered images was truly special, coupled with something like the 50 1.2 EF…so beautiful!
If you are shooting a lot in low light indoors in a night club then go to modern full frame mirrorless or use fast primes on the APS-C Fuji.
Also from Canon R7 to Fuji X-H2, because of the RF mount, to pricey. And the Fuji colors are so nice....no way back for me.
Thanks for sharing the experience! I shot with an XH1 for 3 years and recently gotten the XH2 for better auto focusing. Still a very enjoyable experience. Been trying to do more shoots in bar scenes, any advice?
I’ve actually got a video on tips for nightclub photography that also relates well to bars or events, be sure to check it out :)
Does the A7riv not have the option to shoot lower megapixel raws? I thought it could, although maybe that’s me mistaking it with the Leica Q3.
Man I really love this video so so much… I had a eos r and then an xt4 and love the Fuji so much! Recently purchased an a7rv and just can’t get into it….. I mean for work it’s nuts… can’t miss a shot but it’s so so un uninspiring to use! not only that but just really prefer my images coming out of my Fuji.. they are so pleasing ❤️
Again thank you for this great video makes me feel not alone!!!
Subbed
Thank you for the kind words!!
I’m glad others resonate with what I was feeling, yes these big full frame mirrorless cameras are “perfect” technically but man do they lack soul haha
Hi. I'm looking for advice. How would x-t5 compare to R8 for landscape photography?
Hi Matthew Ruderman
I have view your video on the XH2S I know how yr feeling and stressed with the S.
Very good points, I agree (I’m also a fuji lover since a long time 😅)
I already have a XT5, loving it, but i want a second camera for my professional shoots (documentary style).
Not an easy choice , I’ll probably go with two XT-5 as I love the dials too 😅
@@rudermanphoto thank you! I understand but it's not an easy choice, there are arguments for each choice :D

Can you please tell which in camera image settings/WB, color presets/film sim did you use on 6:19 lady's photos

@@rudermanphoto Same things dude :D same things. good luck in you're art ^^
I did not expect to see photos from St.Petersburg =)
What about low light AF? For example Sony a7IV can focus in total darkness with fast prime. Not to mention 12800 iso is totally usefull.
I have 3 canon full frames for the studio and a fuji xt5 as my personal camera.
I love my Sony but I feel like I am picking up a computer with a lens mount. Heading to a switch to Fujifilm X-H2.
Especially with a lens like the 90mm, every time I use that thing I’m reminded how incredible it is!
@@rudermanphoto Yes!! That is truth!
Here's my experience in case it's interesting:
I've been shooting Fujifilm for about a decade and with this new price hike and the discontinuation of their compact models, I jumped ship.
(I know you can adapt it thru a $400 fringer adapter but native mount would be sweet)
It’s all about what works for you, to be honest with you I haven’t had much experience with the newer lower tier Fuji’s like the X-S20 so i don’t want to comment on their usability, but I know with Canon it was a camera that more or less “just worked” and I think the R8 will serve you very well for many years to come!
@@rudermanphoto Fuji X100T for a long time, and then Fuji X-T4.
