    Finally found a good Australian youtube channel that reviews cars. Great review guys. I've taken the 132 tsi Tiguan for a test drive. I found it powerful enough and refined - probably the pick of the range. Haven't test driven the Tucson yet - but will now after this review.

      Rene G.A.C.M I get my 2018 2 liter diesel on the 15th May, initially i wanted a Jeep but priceline pushed me ‘back’ to the Tucson however I’m starting to feel glad that it did as it looks an amazing car. I guess Hyundai save cash by being a major steel manufacturer which gets them off to a good start, then with the Germans designing and the Czechs building alongside Korean business innovation its a real winner.

    Very good review. As for looks, the Tucson is very attractive. I think it’s interior is much more practical too. I didn’t realize the Tiguan’s boot is larger! Wow. I think both cars are very good and it’ll be a difficult choice if you can afford to buy one of these cars.

    I don't know about Diesel Tucson's but I bought the lower end 2017 AWD 2.0L gas version here in Canada which goes for about $30,000.00 (CDN) before taxes and so on, and I find it to be a very nice mid size SUV that has more than enough power when you pop it into sport mode and stand on it a bit coming off the lights, yet out on the open road it runs along at freeway speeds quietly and effortlessly. This vehicle is pretty good value for the dollars and in my opinion one of the best looking SUV's available. As for the VW, it may be a very good vehicle, .... but I can't say I really like the looks of it all that much.

  • @TheWindspeed36
    @TheWindspeed36 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Note that the Tiguan does have a cargo net included with it - it's packed in with the spare wheel. Note that CarPlay doesn't work properly with with Active Info Display - navigation in Apple Maps, phone calls & media playback doesn't appear on the display if you're using CarPlay. Note you can also get the R line version of the Tiguan which gives you adaptive suspension and better seats.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, it's a strange niggle with Apple CarPlay. If you want directions in the Info Display, you'll have to use the car's built-in navigation. The R-Line is very nice - and does improve things further - but here it's only available on the Highline and is another $4,000, so that's an expensive Tiguan.

    Great, great vehicles for features and tech, but VW models for me are just so....plain and boring to look at, both moving and parked. That alone made me pass on them in favor of Hyundai. A fantastic new vehicle for both looks and tech is the Peugeot 3008 - wow.

    I'm not interested in diesels full stop until you get into Touareg sized SUV's. Of these two the Tiggy is the most sober design and to this I think it'll age better, the interior is a major step ahead of anything in its class. That said the Hyundai has a lot going for it and would hardly be a wrong choice but not my choice. In this price bracket in take the 2.0 litre turbo petrol (132kw I think) Highline they offer here in NZ.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep Sarge I think I agree with you on the diesel thing. At the moment we can get a 110TSI (2WD) or 132TSI (AWD) petrol, but not in the Highline grade. It'll be fun to get the Tiguan back once the 162TSI arrives in a few months with that sweet Golf GTI engine.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No tech pack on Highline, so the figure is 53990+ORC if you include the Assistance Pack and panoramic roof, certainly not 60K+ORC. 10% more for the VW feels right to me.

    Ordered one 2 months ago, like the one in review with different paint, I drove the R- line two wheel drive test car with 150 ps disel, I liked, it is very qiuet, but with the 19 inch wheel it was pretty hard so choose different spec. I just hope there would be no disel scandal again !!!

    • @chasingcars

      +sky works I'm sure you'll be happy with that! Interesting combo -- here in Australia we can only get the R-Line package with the top diesel and forthcoming top petrol, plus AWD. I highly doubt we will see another diesel controversy ... massive culture of caution at VW around diesel these days.

  • @letsseeif
    @letsseeif 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So Tom. If Huyundai/Kia made the Tiguan using all the items shown, then it'd be a case of 'all bases covered' re reliabilty, warranty, & reputational damage. However. Aspirational buyers seem magnetically attracted to Euro cars. [ps. In most car comparison reviews globally, the winner is usually reviewed last, which is the 'giveaway'.]

  • @JoskoSpearfishing
    @JoskoSpearfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    We can argue about exterior design. Both cars are beautiful. Tucson looks very modern, Tiguan is more classic. When replaced with new models in couple of years Tiguan will remain better looking car due to more classy look. Modern design usually looks funny after 7-8 years. If you check personally inside both cars I'm sure you'll agree Tiguan interior looks much better and more premium. Not sure about Australia, but in Europe VW is away desirable brend then Hundai.

      I thought so too until things go wrong again and again and again and again, I had mine for not quite 12 month's and was so happy to get rid of it, I firmly believe Hyundai offer this warranty because they know full well it will be needed. also worth having a look here, quite a few problems being reported, not just the lack of apple car play as the name suggests Hyundai: Bring CarPlay/Android Auto to the Tucson/Santa Fe Elite/Highlander

      Sorry to hear that. It's been 17 months I bought mine and I had ZERO problem. According to JD Power, from 2015 to 2016 Hyundai went from 188 to 158 PP100 and VW stay pretty much the same from 165 to 169 PP100 (PP100 = problems per 100 vehicules).

      It's a matter of luck mostly. It sounds funny but it's the truth. Before i bought my Hyundai Tucson, i had an Audi A4. in the 2 years i've driven it, i had to bring it in for repairs on a REGULAR basis. I was shocked and disappointed but wouldn't flag the brand off as unreliable or utter crap. I just had bad luck with mine. I've had my Tucson for 12 months now. Not a single problem so far. I feel like people are missing the point here. Not too long ago Hyundai would never have been cross shopped with a German product, for obvious reasons. But look at them today. Whether they won this comparison or not (which is incredibly subjective) is irrelevant. Hyundai is at a point now where they are a viable option for everyday motoring. Honestly both cars look great in their own regard, one more sporty and the other cleaner sheet metal. As a consumer it's great to see there is an abundance of options to choose from. Puts the pressure on the manufacturer and not the consumer (which is the way we want it).

    When you compare the adequately spec'd Hyundai active AWD in TDI for just over AU$33K it absolutely smacks the crap out of the VW. Servicing costs also far cheaper in the Hyundai and the warranty exceptional. I suppose the VW is a bit more solid and has it's snob appeal, however the cheaper Hyundai's remain outstanding in this line up.

    if you want something rugged, choose the Tucson and if you choose something that takes a lot of time to be repaired, then choose the Tiguan😊

    I'm sorry, but I don't get how he thinks that VW looks better than Tucson. In my opinion Tucson looks much more modern than Tiguan. Tech wise for sure Tiguan is ahead of Tucson, nonetheless I would still pick Tucson simply because of Hyundai's reputation and reliability. I'm sorry but I don't think VW is worth that price tag.

      Cheers - I think that's right. The Tig ends up about 10% more expensive. To me it feels about 10% better, so the price seems fair.

      +Jill Thompson It's hard to say given how new these models are, but the Hyundai has the longer warranty and cheaper servicing plan, which makes for better peace of mind long term.

    But please ... but who is that after the scandal diesel gate still buys VW or other German car brand?
    Not to mention the fact that often from the point of view of design and comfort of the purchase costs are really exaggerated, only to have it ...? a car that from an aesthetic point of view and interior (are virtually all the same) .... Between VW and Hyundai there is absolutely no comparison .... Hyundai tucson forever

      +Iceporky74 Sales figures suggest Australians quickly got over any feelings about dieselgate, and given this TDI has nothing to do with any engine that was involved, it's not a factor I really considered.

    I was able to test drive both cars. And I must say that in terms of interior quality the Tiguan beats the Tucson. Sorry, but in my opinion the interiors of the Tuscon partly felt like the plastic of a tictac pack. If someone doesnt care about the interior of a car thats ok. Everyone has a different taste and values something else. If you choose the Tiguan you get a more premium car. Its even bigger. For this you pay more. I like the look of the Tiguan although its more simple than the styling of the Tuscon. Why should VW change a running system?! They sell their cars pretty well. They got their other brands like Seat or Skoda to test different stylings. But check out the Tiguan with the available R-Line package. It looks fantastic. At least in europe VW targets a different group of potential buyers than Hyundai . I think a comparison between the Tucson and the other SUVs of the Volkswagen Group would be interesting and more appropriate. Especially the Seat Ateca (which looks really great) or the Skoda Kodiaq.

    Mmm did you say you liked the look of the Hyundai, I know its a very subjective thing but the Tiguan I think certainly looks better both inside and out. Caveat here I have the previous Tig so biased.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, as you say it's a subjective thing. The Tucson has some pretty nice wheels. I fully agree about the Tiguan interior, which I think is very sophisticated.

    • @cw205mi16
      @cw205mi16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new Tiguan looks great (especially in higher specs like R-Line). The Tucson also looks great on the road, nice chunky and proper SUV-like. I think the old Tiguan is hideous though; tall glasshouse, awkward profile, awful interior design etc.

    I hear comments of the Tiguans dated look, lol... it's called a classic clean look! it will still look good in 30 years, the Tucson looks the same as every other suv being built today with a big ass front grill, rounded off everywhere. Just because the Tucson is not a dated look does not make it a classic look.

    Would have the Tucson because I got rid of my Tiguan as it came with a load of electrical problems and VW didnt want to know unless you had a Infinte bank account, Hyundai has so much better customer service and cheaper all round and more RELIABLE. P.S. nice to see the VW get over took by a Santa Fe.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's the right attitude regarding the price… 10% more expensive but about 10% better. Well, the Kodiaq is sort of like a last-gen Volkswagen product, so we'll see if it can beat out the Tiguan. Looking forward to driving it!

    The Tiguan looks very dated and has very close lines to a golf from 2004. The Tuscan has great lines and curves that fit in 2017. VW will feel more solid but offer less warranty and is known to have reliability issues, as well as lie about diesel emissions etc...
