Great review thank you :) I would choose the Tucson over the Tiguan. The VW is actually a decent looking car (at least compared the the Golf) but the Tucson is bringing something fresh and distinctive to the segment I think. I would have to check out the wind noise first though, that would be a concern.

Sorry Tomas, your review was not objective at all, although you seem to be trying. You kept referencing the long wheel base for the Tiguan. Why didn’t you say anything about the long wheel base for the Tucson, please do your research. The VW is R line with DSG, the Tucson is poorly equipped with manual. You should have had the 230hp Hybrid Tucson which will be the most popular one. The difference in price between these cars in the presented configuration is 15-20k so what are we even talking about?

It's already an effort to get two comparable vehicles at the very same time, and it's not that the manufacturers would have 20 vehicles with different specs available at the same date and you can pick from them. We were happy to be able to offer this comparison test. The price difference between the 2 cars should be around 10 k, just checked in the configurator. I appreciate your reviews very much; this comparison is a bit too subjective because: 1. You compared 2 very different equipment levels(the Tucson I saw had soft touch material on the rear doors) 2.no word about the warranty that would tilt very much toward Tucson; 3.interior of Tucson with DCT looks very different. So in fact, if you select the comparison criteria carefully german cars always win...bit like AutoBild and Auto Motor and Sport magazines :) I am very interested to see a review with Kia Sorento. Keep up the good work!

I saw the video above and read all the comments below. Maybe it would help if you took a look at the site of Hyundai Germany. Every country has it's own funny but also frustrating packages for this car. I noticed that in Germany if you select the PHEV you do not have many options to choose from. No leather seats for instance. So, I don't know. It might be that Thomas did get a "German premium car" that would be a rather basic car in other countries. But I must agree that this comparance does not hit target. Meanwhile the German Bild has had many review and comparances regarding this car and they (and many others) have stated that the overall score of this vehicle is not match for the competetors. Amongst them cars like the + 20.000 euro more expensive Range Rover. And if you take a look at the privat lease prices you can tell that they expect this car to have a very good resell value. The Tiguan (with or without facelift) can't realy compete. Those buying the Tiguan just don't like this design of are loyal to the VW brand. Or maybe there is no hyundai dealer nearyby for maintenance. Or whatever... But if you select a premium Tuscon, with everything that it has to offer safetywise and value wise and waranty wise and performance wise..... Tiguan is no where in sight.

Me and my friends drove 2L turbo diesel long wheelbase version of Tucson and Tiguan 2L turbo petrol elegance version on the highway on the same day, and we all came to same conclusion that Tiguan drives better at high speeds, has better steering feedback and significantly better noise insulation. On the other hand Tucson is feature rich, looks more modern and is a head turner. May be hybrid version makes less noise but we dont get that in India. And from price point of view in the above 2 models that I mentioned Tucson is the expensive one here with a difference of around 5000$
You have to drive them both on the same day to feel the difference in noise insulation and drive quality at high speeds. If I would have driven Tucson only, then I would probably not have anything to complain because it is much better than what I was driving daily at that time.
For all the people who are saying he is biased. He is not biased, infact he is absolutely truthful with the review. As a reviewer he is trying to be exhaustive with his review and if a car doesnt drive well at high speeds or has more noise, why shouldnt he point out? If you cant drive at high speeds in your country, then you can ignore that part of the review but he is not being biased.

Just bought a 22 Tucson LIMITED. Quietest car I've ever owned, including several Mercedes. I love the handling and luxury features, especially considering the price difference between the two cars here. Priced VW's equipped similarly at over $40,000. Bought the Limited for $37,000. The Tucson used here was a lower, more basic vehicle than my Limited and was at a disadvantage. I have paddle shifters and push button transmission. The reviewer neglected to take advantage of the larger,, more inclusive screen and technology of the Tucson. Never touched the rear and side view technology of the Tucson,, the better navigation screen on the large 10,25" monitor. The all leather seating in my Limited has heated front and rear seats as well as ventilated seats in the front. The US version I have is longer than the vehicle used here and has the largest legroom and cargo space in the class. The VW uses large round knobs on the dash to do simple tasks and looks and feels outdated ,where the Tucson has cleanest, most modern and better layed out design in the industry, It looks more modern than the dated, broken, and cluttered VW layout. All lines inside the Tucson seem to flow together with thought and purpose, all the way around the passengers. No more large round vents and broken lines with clutter, like the VW. Tucson is simpler to understand and use and less distracting. The Tucson is better designed for convenience and safety for the driver, especially the safety features and the pop-up side views when the turn signals are used. The Tucson senses when the driver is not paying attention and a message pops up with, "Do you need a break?". A lot of thought went into the design and safety of the Tucson that is absent in the VW. Finally, the longer wheelbase of the U.S. version gives a more stable and softer ride than the European version.

I love the interior design of the Tucson. The Tiguan was never a looker on the inside and I was hoping the facelift would fix that, but instead it just ruined the ergonomics with all those capacitive buttons.
On the outside, the Tucson's front end is a "hate it or love it" affair (I don't like it), while the back is really nice (except for the turning signals, which should have been integrated in the headlamp, not on the bumper). The Tiguan looks decent with the R-line package, but the lower specs just seem a bit dull and outdated. Also not so SUV-ish looking.
I own the pre-facelift Tiguan and I'm pleased with it. Although it doesn't excel at anything, it does all jobs decently and is still a good allrounder. If I were to buy one of the two versions presented in the video, I would pick the Tucson, as it has the newer look and is a bit cheaper. However, for the same price, I would also consider the Skoda Kodiaq, or a higher spec Karoq.

While i always appreciate your reviews, in my opinion, this one is not fair. The trim levels are way too different for a comparison.
Yes, i understand that you cannot choose the trim level, you have to use whatever the manufacturer gives you, but it was your decision to do the comparison in the first place. So why do a comparison if you could not get a more similar trim level of the cars.
And why didn't you release a full review of the tucson first (i'm waiting for it for months) then do the comparison video.

Happy to see the adjustment to comparison videos on the channel but the spec disparity skewed the objectivity. Both are nice vehicles and it comes down to preference most times. I appreciate when the reviewer gives his opinion rather than leave things up in the air.
I have seen and sat in both vehicles. Haven't been able to drive them as yet but for me the Tiguan has a more contemporary and timeless exterior design. The Tucson exterior is more youthful and playful which the younger customers may appreciate. I am about to purchase a Tucson but I will admit that the side view especially is a bit too busy and alot is going on in the design category. It seemed like they just thrown everything in design wise and it is a bit overdone but it still looks good. The Tucson loose points for the low turn signal but it's still not a deal breaker, for me atleast.
Interior wise.....I think the Tucson is nicer. VW build quality is a notch better but they are comparable. I like both vehicles but the Tucson won for me because it comes with way more features and has a better price point.

Hi the video you have put on is very unfair to Hyundai, the Tucson model you had as a comparison with the top of the range Tiguan R line was a standard model. the model you should have had should have been their NLine.
This would have been a much better test.
Also you had a Automatic and the Tucson was manual??
Also you did not show the large fault the VW Tiguan has got. The delay that the Automatic gearbox has when pulling out of a junction or roundabout, there is slight delay in moving off which I find annoying and dangerous.
the car has been back to the dealers many times to try and fix and they know that there is a fault cannot be fixed,
I have even been told to have the ecu chipped??
so this is one of the reasons why I'm changing to a Hyundai Tucson.

I like Thomas' reviews but i found this one in several parts to be really biased against Tucson and in favor of Tiguan starting by the fact that the two trims were nowhere close. Not the same basis for comparison equals bias towards one or another side and in this case Tucson's inferior trim lost the game by Tiguan's top trim...😩...Many awesome characteristics of the Tucson were not even mentioned whereas the wind noise was more profound and louder on the Tiguan at the same speed. Not satisfied by this review of Thomas afterall😏

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I am not biased at all but what I said in the review counts for every trim level of the vehicles, I would repeat it also when the Tucson had more options. It is almost impossible to get the very same equipped vehicles at the same time, it's not like we can trim them ourselves

I agree Thomas but it would be wise to mention those extra features of the car separately within the review even though they do not correspond to the actual car tested. When the basis of comparison is different viewers must get the big image and this is only achieved by sheer mention of facts even though they are not present on the car tested. I have driven both of them and i can reassure you that there is a huge gap between the manual Tucson and the automatic ones (7speed DCT and 6speed auto) something that would make a difference on the comparison with the Tiguan, too! Also the interior is posher in the automatic ones with that center console in piano black and chrome😉

The previous generation had 200hp on all trims. No TDI option either here. With the Taos coming to the US it's like getting the shorter WB Tiguan but thats a compromise. Brilliant review as usual Thomas!
Reading some of these comments it's clear that car design and trim levels are a very subjective thing and there's a lot of Brand Loyalty towards VW's. I've sat in various VW's old and new, high a low spec and they always seem to be very bland to me and seem far too expensive for what you get.
Personally fake exhausts instantly get a car taken off my shortlist and the haptic buttons on VW steering wheels are horrendous.
Tucson wind noise in the UK should not be a problem as everyone should be obeying the speed limit on motorways (70mph for those who forget) and the N-Line hybrid versions against the R-Line Tiguan to me drive a lot better and have a much more interesting and functional interior.
Again, it's a very subjective thing, I find VW's boring and not very interesting and Hyundai build quality and reliability to me is much superior.

I used to have Tiguan II (1,5 150hp) for 2 years and now I have Hyundai Tucson 48v (1,6 180hp) for 1,5 years, so I can compare them. Main problems with Tucson: (1) no headlight washers and headlights are located really low, so in the winter they get dirty really fast; (2) no washer in the reverse camera, which makes it almost unusable in the bad weather. My average petrol consumption is between 7,5...8,2 L/100km, which is higher than it Tiguan - but Tiguan was 2WD compared to 4WD in Tucson. I did not notice any wind noice, described by Thomas. Interior in Tucson is better than in Tiguan, also it is more spacious. Tucson has somewhat softer, more comfortable suspension than Tiguan. Automatic opening of the trunk, once you stay close to it, sometimes plays a bad role, as I need to come to my car avoiding getting too close to the trunk. Tiguan's headlights are much better than those in Tucson: high beam was like a steam engine's projector, while in Tucson it does not impress at all. Now I already ordered my next car... I don't know much about leasing, but I know the Tucson has had a permanent discount of anywhere between 7000-16000 zł (1600-3600 euro) since the beginning of 2023 for people paying in cash, which adding up to a lower base price can make up for almost a 20% price difference!

The interior is quite unpractical, everything seemed so unfortunate and cheap. The trunk is a joke (580l is a scam). Noise at higher speed makes speech unaudible (but the engine insulation seemed to be very good on par with XC40, i would say). Suspension is average - rather hard. Driving assists seemed to work flawlessly though and were quite highlight. Anyway, one wonder why the reviewers (i dont mean autogefuhl) praises the Tucson so much?

I've had a Tiguan R Line for 4 years now. The rear disc brakes corroded so badly they needed replacing and the front discs were so scored they needed replacing too. Apparently it's because I've not driven it enough. It's amazing I did 140,000 miles in my old 10 year old Audi A4 S line and had to replaced the discs at 110,000 mile, no corrosion to be Sean, just wear. The Tiguan has done 30,000 doing the same trips my Audi did yet it seems to corrode in front of my eyes. Also, don't get me even started on the diamond cut wheels which corrode within 2 years even with regular cleaning with Autoglym wheel cleaner that was recommended by VW. It's a great ride and handy car but corrosion is a big issue on this vehicle unless you are willing to drive the hell out of it and wash it every weekend.

My advice to make the movies better:
    1) add some subtitles of the key information
    2) add summary and some scoring (a"a little better", "way better") is very subjective, you could make the subjectivity a bit more precise
    3) the cameras while driving are shaking (in both cars) - some stabilization
    4) Liked that car colours are similar (in other reviews you have red and white which sometimes is hard to compare and see the details)
    5) picking same class cars would be much more fair. You go with VW R, you compare Tuscon N etc. You cannot compare these versions where VW has adaptive suspension and Hyundai doesn't.
Question to all: do you have some more experience/insights to that "above 130-140 km/h" topic? Some people say it's not good, some say it's good and I am confused :)
    Best.

Yeap. Just tested the new tucson today. Wind noise is a real thing, and really annoying since your are getting a new car .... A deal breaker for me.

In every comparison review I saw till now the Tuscon hybrid is the overall winner, even against the Lexus NX hybrid by far. It has the most equilibrated comfort. The interior noise by 100 km/hr is 60 DB, the Lexus 67 DB. The infotainment system of the Tuscon is in other reviews the most completed and intuitive. The inner space is the best in other reviews, the trunk the biggest of them all. The safety features of the Tuscon is overwhelming and they work the best as other reviewers stated. So what is going on here in this comparison test??

Tested the Tucson PHEV version, and the wind noise at the driver side was horrible! ( at 130 km/h). For the price of vehicle I would expect such important details be spotted and solved before release.

@@marcosolis4374 I was so impressed after a test drive myself, that I bought one myself in full trim. I bought the full hybrid.
I am complete satisfied. This is the most silent car I ever owned. No wind noise whatsoever.
Average consumption with first tank was 4,9 l/100 km. The second was 5,2 l/100 km and now in the middle of my third one, the average is 4,7 l/100 km. I checked the tachometer versus the real GPS speed and there is no deviation at all, so the board computer is very realistic.
The multimedia system works flawless and reacts very fast.
So I don't agree with this tester findings and I am very happy with the car.
My only complaint is that in deep putholes the suspension can be a little abrupt and dry but in general the comfort is fine for a suv.

I'm going with the Hyundai, its Hyundai who has been leading the industry for the last 10 years. V.W, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, GM, Ford. They ALL been around LONG before Hyundai/Genesis/Kia. And yet it was Hyundai who is forcing ALL of them to offer us better better designs, FAR BETTER cabins. Hyundai started offering a premium more luxurious cabin in these non luxury brands. Bigger infotainment screens with very nice screen quality, digital drivers display, safety features in even the entry level vehicles. Now all these other MANUFACTURERS are forced to copy. They hate Hyundai, they wanted to keep giving you cheap plastic throughout the cabin, only offering a 8 inch infotainment in the top trim, only offering any types of safety features in your higher trims. Hyundai is throwing in everything and these other Manufacturers hate the fact they have to follow. So thank you Hyundai. My second car was a 2002 Elantra Used ( 67k ) miles which i had to get because my first car i owned kept breaking down. Bought a brand new 2000 Sebring LXI in 1999. And 3 years later right after the warranty that thing spent more time at the mechanics than it did on the road. So I had to have something for work. I traveled a lot on my job as well, so I was also concerned about the Elantra. It was only a couple years old but lots of miles. Sadly I was upside down with the Sebring, on my own, a job I was barely a year into. Anyways I gave that Elantra to my brother in 2015 with a 173k miles on it and that engine kicked over immediately every time. Broke my heart to give him that car because I wanted to keep it, but he was badly in need. I have now had 7 Hyundai vehicles since 2004. Would of been 8 but once again I'm having separation problems from my 2016 Hyundai Genesis. We also have a 2 week old 2023 Palisade we just traded our 2019 in for

Nope. It's Renault who is forcing ALL of them to offer us better designs and FAR BETTER cabins. Starting with Clio V which conquered the market with it's superrior interior quality and design with giant, high quality, vertical 10 inch screen with superb OS :) Reviewers and car enthusiats called Clio V a B+ class car and no other manufacturer got this priviledge till this day. It even has bigger booth than VW Golf and it sniffs VW Polo with one nose hole. After Clio V all other car manufacturers started putting higher quality soft touch materials in their small hatchbacks yet till this day Clio is the best. Than, when the small hatchbacks got quality interior, more expensive cars needed to adjust to explain their price. That's how Renault, as always since producing the frist Clio, pushed forward the whole industry :)

I drove both cars over the weekend and it is tough. I wish VW would modernize the Tiguan looks a little bit. I liked the drive/ comfort on the Tiguan way better. But the warranty is better in Hyundai. I am torn.

Hi Thomas!very nice comparison ,we were missing this from your channel continue with them they are great.
Hyundai is good car but for me indicators of Tucson and consumption of 180ps engine is crucial not to pick up this car. i saw it yesterday in front of me standing at lights and i couldnt see that he wanted to turn left .
I m now in search of byuing a new car ,i m waiting to see Nissan Qashqai and i ll choose after.Until now i m going with Tiguan.
    Greetings from Greece!
