Once a clown walked up to my *6 year old brother* and just shoved a balloon animal in his hand-saying nothing. I assumed it was free and took one too. But then the clown stuck around and approached our parents, pointed at our balloons and held out his hand for money 😤 we ended up just giving the balloons back. Approaching little kids and *giving them toys when the parents backs are turned* & then demanding payment honestly makes this bracelet guy look like a saint

Those scammers annoy me so bad!! I almost fell victim to that bracelet scam while in Rome earlier this year. While I was getting out of the Roman Forum, a man came up and randomly put that bracelet on my wrist. Then he tried demanding $. I was having none of it and I got aggressive with him verbally cause I was also short on time as I had to get to my next tourist attraction I wanted to see. So I thankfully took it off, though two or three followed me and I turned around pointing and yelling “NO!!!”, and I trashed it.
Another sign scammers want your attention: while I visited Venice, a random guy came up to me asking “what time it was” so I looked at my phone and told him. Then he was friendly and threw a bracelet at me and I said “NO!” and walked away. Then I realized “of all people around, why did you have to ask me? And also there’s a clock right in front of you!!” Now I know what to expect the next time I see them within a distance

Those scammers sound very aggressive. Such a shame that the police let's them be some a nuisance to tourists. Asking for the time is a way to see if you are a foreigner or not. It can also be a way to see what kind of watch or phone you have, when you check the time. You really have to be on guard when traveling, especially in areas full of scammers. "My friend, you want a free bracelet?"
    "Free?"
    "Yes, free"
"To be clear, it's absolutely free, you don't want any money whatsoever from me? None?"
"No, no money it's free, a gift for you my friend"
"Well if it's really, actually free, okay thanks"
    [Puts bracelet on me]
    "A donation for my country"
    "Erm, no"
    "You give me donation"
"You said this was free and you didn't want any money"
    "Donation, for my children"
"No, I don't think so. Here, take this back"

I avoided eye contact but he caught me by asking where I was from and gave the same name “samba” and said the bracelet was free and proceeded to place it on my wrist. Then he said he has starving family in Senegal and asked for money. This dude was so huge and I’m only a small female so luckily I had a euro to give him to get him off my back. This happened to me on Tuesday, they were standing in front of the metro exit that is right next to San Siro stadium in Milan. Got a bracelet, told them I don't have cash. They left me and my mate alone pretty fast because there were many more fans walking towards the stadium so it wasn't worth it arguing with us.
I already knew about this scam but fell for it because they chose an amazing spot. We just left the metro where you have to scan a QR code to leave the station so it kind of felt like you were inside the boundaries of the stadium (so they feel "official") even though anyone can just go there. Once they asked for money though I realized that we are being scammed and there was no way I would give them money.

Was at the Vietnam memorial in DC Memorial Day and guy came up to us and said he had gift POW MIA hats and put them on us then said $20 donation for POWs. How can you say no to that!! My relatives were visiting from BCN and paid the man but I don't know if it was legit (probably not) but either way very irritating.

Sounds like the POW hat guy was a scammer. Lowest of the low. I'm so sorry that happened to you and your family. These guys pray on innocent people. Just awful.

They watch to see where in your bag you pulled your donation money from, and later their partner pickpockets you with ease.
