A person that has been strengthened through the world would see that a man scamming has reasons he scams, It would already come off as a weakness. It would be a form of sickness. So why would someone want to play in a game of thinking aggression is the way? Is that what you think makes someone strong? But the thing is, is that when you step out of that situation with another human how did you do for yourself, how did you do for the people around you? So the composed man steps out of it collected and unphased. I don't know how to explain to you the strength in that. You're saying it's a sign. When I handed their CD back before they tried to sign it and told them no thank you, I was then hit in the head by one of the lowlife pond sucking scumbags and I was knocked unconscious. Someone got a video of it and as I'm lying on the ground coming to, he gets my phone number so he can text me the video. I was on the ground and out for 10 seconds and no one helped me. This was the weekend before Halloween 2022 about midnight at West 47th Street. I went to the group of New York cops about a block like West 48th Street and they told me that the last person the CD scammers assaulted was still waiting for an ambulance and it was over an hour. Did I want a report I said yes. I told him about the video they looked at the video and then they said they knew who it was and they took off to look for him and left me there stranded. I just took a taxi to my hotel. I was just there to see the show for the first time and I was only there for a day and a half. If I go back there that piece of s*** is going to get what's coming to him.
Normally i never walk through time square so I haven't been bothered to try a mix tape in like 10 years that is until I went to comic con two weeks ago and some dude tried to aggressively shove his mix tape into my hand. I said no multiple times while I was walking and while he was following me and finally I had to stop and yell "I said no". They don't want to draw attention. You start yelling "no" and drawing that attention, they'll back off. I've also found the best way to get people to move away from you in NYC is to start barking like a dog. Learned this during my time as a bike messenger. Nobody pays attention to other people. Everyone turns to look for the barking (and potentially dangerous) dog. When they see it's a human, they back the fuck away because nobody wants to find out what a barking human is capable of doing. 😂
@mountainmash4693 Unfortunately, it actually works. It shouldn't but it does. If you're not afraid to look like a fool in front of NPCs, this is the fastest way to get people to leave you alone.

These days the ones you have to worry about in NYC are the fake monks. Idk why, but this year they've been stepping up their game. I was walking around Rockefeller center with my wife admiring the Christmas tree, then went around the back way to exit (near the small lit up snow village houses) and one of those sneaky monks managed to pocket his beaded bracelet on me at some point (likely when I was looking at tree taking pics) because all of a sudden he's asking for money when im trying to leave the place. I laughed in his face and threw the bracelet into the street. The guy was still on my ass so I lightly lifted my jacket to showe off my piece, that got him to scurry on off like the rat he is. Gotta love NYC

We encountered this for the first time in Vegas a few days ago! The guys who surrounded us were less aggressive than these guys so it was way easier to walk away after realizing what they trying to do...and they didn't even do the autograph thing right since they had my SO sign the CD himself for their "sick sister with cancer" or something
First encountered this in like 2007 when I was walking to the old Times Square Virgin Megastore between classes. Guy signed the CD and everything and charged me. He was definitely pissed when I didn’t pay him. These guys need to come up with a new hustle because no one even listens to CDs anymore lmao. It’s fuckin 2023. I really have no respect for people pretending to be artists.
A good rule of thumb is be extremely wary of random strangers approaching you acting friendly. Especially in big cities and high traffic tourist areas. The best defense that has worked for me is to not make eye contact or acknowledge any attempts by these scammers trying initiate contact with you. If their especially persistent you then need to act very annoyed and make it very clear you’re not a mark. A simple loud “no” is usually more then enough. It is not the time to be soft spoken and say things like “sorry”. You have nothing to be sorry about as these people will not hesitate to make a fool of you and take your money so you have no obligation to be polite or nice to these scum.
I live in nyc. These assholes are everywhere. NEVER have your open hand out. They slap a CD in your hand. They say it's free and they follow you for your money. Stay away from the card guys too, that LET you win the 1st time and slap $20-$100 in your hand, wanting you to keep playing. If you say no and try to walk away with your "winnings", they got guys on the corners.
Please tell me what is their origin, provenance ? Are they native Americans ? What do they do for living ? What is their daily activity ? Only doing this scams ?

This was done to me, lol I took the CD and wished them well and walked away. They asked for a donation twice and I smiled and wished them luck again lol
I usually tell them yeah hold the cd for me real quick lemme grab my wallet and then once they take the cd's from my hand I tell em I forgot my wallet lmao PEACE
If, in spite of deliberate efforts you find something in your hands that you don't want and are not going to pay for, just lay it on the ground, turn, and walk away. It's seriously easy. No excuses, no explanations, no "games". You don't owe them one single word out of your mouth past that first "No".
Same exact thing that happened to me when I was in NYC times square with my mother, WITH MY MOM! These guys don't give two shits who you are or where you're from they will harass you no matter what. If you're in times square and you see these kind of guys from a distance try and walk around the perimeter to avoid them. It's a shity way to avoid them, it takes away the enjoyment out of being in times square, but it's the only way to get away from these creeps.
There is no enjoyment in Times Sq like there used to be in the 80’s, even though the SAME ELEMENT from the SAME SEGMENT OF SOCIETY had a different scam going on back then. It was 1981, I clearly remember as if it were yesterday. You pass by one of those scumb*gs and he makes it look like you bumped into him accidentally. Suddenly he points to his Sony Walkman that crashed to the street, blames you loudly, he gets even more violent by the minute demanding that you pay him $40. Same scam, different era. THESE PEOPLE don’t like to work, they are violent, UNEDUCATED CRIMINALS who call everyone else a racist EXCEPT themselves. Stay away from Times Square. It’s way too commercial anyways and so touristy. NYC has so many other interesting and safe places like Hudson Yards and the Oculus Center on Greenwich Street
Nahhhhh. Screw that. Don't be scared. These guys ain't nothing. I'm a life-long New Yorker...just be stern and direct. If you don't want someone in your face, just say so. Don't be afraid of conflict...because there wont be any. They'll realize you're not a "mark"(buster) and move on. Trust me.
Just be confident and don’t talk to them longer than necessary. Sometimes I just walk right past someone that’s pestering me and ignore them. It’s not a frightening experience at all, unless they put hands on you. Never just accept being touched by a stranger, that’s when you need to be mean and make your stance clear, and move on.
Simple as that all these people expressing this nonsense and then it's going to go from that to how they really feel with the racism thrown around can't get away from that
Did you see the guy in the white fleece? He was sitting down eating McDonald’s with some girl, and came out of nowhere threatening ActionKid to pick up the CD. These CD guys are pressuring and threatening people to give up their money.
I’ve travelled heaps and been lucky never to come across this type of hustle. In saying that I’m not walking around like a deer lost in headlights either. This guy did the right thing by just walking away.
Many years I actually gave these kinda scammers $10 for a cd when I was working in the music industry, generally wanting to support them and enthusiastic to hear their work later. Later on when I put it in the car it wouldn’t play. Ask them to play it for you next time or no thanks. They won’t even have a cd player on them because they know there’s no actual music.
I was walking in Times Square. A guy put the CD on my chest while I was walking. I said “No and don’t put your hands on me”. He said “fuck you”. I said “fuck you too bro”. Gotta love NY
. The key is to walk away BEFORE "they" put the CD on your chest. This is the only strategy that will help you enjoy a nice walk not only in Times Square but all around New York City. .
Growing up I had a friend that did this. He didn’t do it right in the middle of Time Square though. If anyone knows the area, he did it on those dead back streets around that area and on Canal street. A tourist finally went to the police, and he was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery. But he did make a lot of money prior to that. Around $200-$300 a day.
Exactly. And in Times Square, cops are all over the place, even a few feet from these guys but they're busy "fighting terrorism" to do anything about it.
Hell our previous mayor de blasio let go thousands of criminals from murders to rapist gave them tickets to a baseball game and mta cards to travel around with for two years in a row on New Years Day
Had a few of these idiots try their scam with a friend and I over the weekend. I had 3 of them in my face, all handing me a CD shaped paper with a code on it to scan and download their "music." All 3 cards in my hand with them demanding money, I held them out and said "take it, I don't want it." They refused to take it and wanted money. The one guy had his arms crossed so I took all three CD cuts outs and said more aggressively "I don't want it!" I tucked them in between his folded arms and walked by with them, and they didn't know how to react and didn't say or do a thing. I don't think they are used to people sticking it to them like that. Pathetic. The next day we walked by again. Same guys, one held out his card, I said "NOPE" and he said "I'm a real musician, I'm not AI" My thought was "I don't think you are any kind of "I" but what I said was, "I've been a musician longer than you've been alive, you buy my music" and said my website. Still waiting on that purchase 🤣 He's a "real musician" Uh huh. I would have liked to pop a music theory question out and see the confused look on his face. Edit: I was searching for the same guys because I had an idea of how to mess with them a bit. Gonna keep on looking for them.
The first time I visited NYC with a school group when I was a freshman I kinda fell for this scam I suppose. A guy came up to me had his CD in a nice case with artwork and track listing on the back. He signed it for me and took a picture with me and I gave him $3. I was able to listen to it almost immediately because people still listened to portable CD players. To my surprise there was actually music on it, decent music at that. I listened to it for years until I lost it somewhere. I wonder sometimes if he ever made it on any scale, I can’t remember his name but I think it was Yoreal or Yorel. But I can’t be certain. Just goes to show you that sometimes it can just be someone chasing their dreams. Or it could be a scam.

A person that has been strengthened through the world would see that a man scamming has reasons he scams, It would already come off as a weakness. It would be a form of sickness. You start yelling "no" and drawing that attention, they'll back off. I've also found the best way to get people to move away from you in NYC is to start barking like a dog. A good rule of thumb is be extremely wary of random strangers approaching you acting friendly. Especially in big cities and high traffic tourist areas.
