Newell is pronounced new weul, not "nouwelle". Just thought I'd mention. I met Carl Newell years ago at his factory and that's how his surname is pronounced. Very pleasant man btw, he helped me personally replace a reel that had been lost at sea... I'm a big fan of his reels and have a large number of them in mint condition.
$170 for that "99" (Silver Beach width) Jigmaster wasn't too bad... You have the Newell spool for that "99" width going for $65 alone on Ebay, not to mention the 300-C side plates as well as the bars and stand. That in-between width was heavily preferred on the West Coast, as it was perfect for albacore. People used to slap on a Jigmaster side plate on a Silver Beach 99, giving it a 4-1 ratio instead of 3-1, since they were both "take apart" reels.
It’s a great reel. You can use it as is or drop some money into extending it to a 344 with a Tiburon Frame and Spool. The gear ratio is as high as it’s going to get.
