Ur correct our military service members definitely deserve a MUCH much BETTER tasting. MRE. .. I'VE HAD BRITISH AND CANADIAN KOREAN SWISS FRENCH AND EL SALVADORAN .MRE..ALL MIL ISSUES AND EVERY ONE WAS 100% BETTER THAN OUR MRE. BEST SO FAR YET...IS KOREAN AND FRENCH...
Our military personnel deserve the best!!! I cracked up out loud laughing at the statement about the fire inside. Too funny!!! Thanks for the reviews. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
I liked the few lines of CCR... And the "I'm goin full on nastytown" LOL Your sense of humor in display a bunch in this one, and it was great to see! Enjoyed this one, Luke!
I kind of wish he (they/channels) wouldn’t, it takes me out of the experience. Like yourself all I can think is that it’s a lot of work for a staged scene and I don’t like staged reality for the most part. That’s just me though, Luke will do Luke and we’re good with that.
Paul Keating I see your point but if I’m being honest I like the current camera work even though it’s more work on Luke I like the different angles and perspective he provides especially during the gear review episodes. But I can see your point as well.
Sorry to hear.about the condensation issues, I use the army sleeping bag with the gortex bag to avoid a damp sleeping bag. Works out most of the time though. My Marine grandaughter lost her posting due to the corona virus, so no paid vacation in the Pacific. Hope everything goes good for your daughter, best wishs to all active and retired military. Never quit, never, ever forget!! Chef Ken
I think it's gorgeous there in the spring! Love the photography. Your sound quality is so nice to pick up that chattering of the birds, the hawk. Thank you for this delightful camp out!
Luke, I really appreciate your reviews and videos. Very useful information. You've mentioned your daughter, Maddie (sp). My little girl's name was Maddie. She was my buddy, and she loved to be outdoors with me. I lost her to cancer five years ago. I try to spend as much time outdoors now in her honor. Thanks again for the videos, bro.
keep up the good work man! love watching your series, i'm 62 years old and wish that my wife and i could be there with ya, loving the blue ridge mountains. live in florida 40 years now but i'm still a kentucky boy at heart! carry on! great fan. tim
Luke, this was excellent adventure. Your experience and ability to have fun is inspiring. Best wishes and good luck to your daughter. You must be very proud. Congrats
Thank you to your daughter for her service. Being a veteran myself I support all veterans but focus on those who are having troubles re-acclimating to today's society after times of combat or thoughts of suicide. I pray she never has to go through that. I thank you for your support of our military brothers and sisters.
Had to stop the video and comment, that video where you built the shelter and stayed in the sniw storm is to this day one of my favorite videos. Showcasing the military gear and staying in the weather brought back many memories for me. I almost watched it but chose this video. Thanks for what you do Luke, I am layed up from back surgery and now going back to watch over your videos. Appreciate you Brother.
I bought that same Swiss stove on ebay from some guy in Switzerland. He even sent me some real Swiss chocolate. The stove is just a cool item to have around.
This guy is great. Imagine walkie back and forth setting thr camera and retrieving it for getting good shots . a lot of work is put into making your videos. Appreciate it!
In Australia we get a tree along the river banks known as a a ghost gum and they are known to drop limbs for no reason, especially in summer. All you hear is the crack and down comes 40kg of branch. I can remember once on a camp telling someone about the trees and warning them to move their camper trailer. They brushed the risk off and about an hour after dusk when it cooled down came a monster and took the trailer out. Looked like something out of a cartoon.
Thank you so much for sharing these little "adventures" with us. In my past, I was able to do this sort of thing often, but current life circumstances prevent me from getting out there very often. Watching your videos will have to suffice for a while!
Never ceases to amaze me how often the military blows it, when it comes to providing it's troops with gear like this. When I served in the 70's, we went so far as to buy our own socks (anything that wouldn't show) for duty during the cold weather months. They've made a lot of improvements since then, but it looks like they still aren't talking to people who spend much time using this type of gear. With all the money the military spends, I would think they would just ask a company like Z-pack to make them a military version (camouflaged sol-poly) of one of their tents/tarps.
When the UK guys on reserve started hearing about the second go in Iraq, there was a lot of growling about having to buy usable equipment themselves because issue kit was so old it fell to pieces, I’m talking about unused kit that the stitching fell apart on.
Was the same over here in the UK in the early 2003, my wife even went to the local army surplus to buy kit to send out to me in Basrah, eg sun hats, sun glasses, I thought there may be shortages so took my own stuff too, eg coolmax socks, found out you can wear them for two weeks non stop, not enough water to wash clothes in, so bathed with wet wipes and alcohol gel ( medic here ) saying that, 2007 Afghanistan, had more than enough kit, good stuff too, eg camelback and did not have to hand it all in, the Osprey system was one of the best but it was heavy in that heat, anyway, all the best .
I'm retired army [9/92] and the issue kit was CRAP! I always felt that the generals and colonels should be forced to go out for a mont using the issue gear just like the privates to see what crap we were getting to get them to improve the gear we were issued. Same goes for the food. Rear eschelon wieners get much better food and it doesn't come in a bag!
You definitely should go, but why wait until the pandemic is over, now's the time, less people, and what better way to social distance your self than heading into the bush
Really enjoyed watching this Luke. I'm continually impressed by the production value and all the obvious effort and hard work that goes into your adventure videos. Thanks for making great content. Coupled with the gear reviews they're entertaining, inspiring, informative and "agenda free"! I went out everyday of my 5 day weekend this memorial day weekend realized I had a number of products you reviewed thanks to those reviews. Thanks!
Yet another fantastic review, Luke! Gotta say, at 00:10:12 was sure you were gonna say, "Let's get this onto a tray... Nice!" Long live Luke & Steve1989
Drive from either side and meet in the middle for a hike, overnight(s) and just bounce off each other. When two people who know their stuff get talking.. then you listen and stay hush
Those were mud dauber ( aka dirt dauber ) wasp nests ! at about 4:10 . Now back to the show ! Like your videos . Weird question - have you done any just getting started videos ( or recommend any ) for senior citizens ? Seriously , I promise you ! We're in our mid 60's
I stumbled across your channel and I have to say, the amount of effort you go through to set up cameras and then go back to "get the shot" is staggering. My hats off to you sir. I've enjoyed your breakdown and use of equipment and weighing pros and cons of everything. You are doing a swell job, and from one squid to another, fair winds and following seas to your daughter.
You test a lot of gear out. I would like to see a overnighter with your top picks. Your favorite gear, tent or tarp to sleeping bag and cook kit, your top picks for backpacks just all the kit you like the best.
I really enjoy watching tent videos. I’ve just realised that my Dad never mentioned ever sleeping in a tent during 6 days of WW2 from France to North Africa and Italy. Slit trenches lined with sheets borrowed from houses , yes, gas capes, great coats, but never tents.
Good video Luke, good choice not setting up near the tree, always trust your gut. Funny story ,speaking of CCR, my friend always thought the chorus said, "There's a bathroom on the right".....makes me think of that every time I hear that song ...lol, You and Susie stay safe :)
My man was out here making chill friendly camping videos and WARNING PEOPLE ABOUT LONG COVID in *MAY* of 2020. Absolute legend. Thank you! It's not mentioned enough that the 1918 Flu had wide-ranging aftereffects that persisted for years after initial infection, if not for the rest of someone's life. Reduced educational attainment, physical disability, lower income and socioeconomic status, encephalitis lethargica, and elevated all cause mortality.
The 'vulcano' stove (Bordeflasche, Gebirgskocher der Schweizer Armee) is made of aluminum and will not withstand glowing coals! It is not designed to be used as a hobo, instead you should use a (small) alcohol or gel stove inside it (Notkocher 71) Sticks and twigs shouldn't be a problem, just don't expect to use it long term or as a 'heater'.
Thanks for the advice on selling my tent. I put it on ebay and it was gone in no time and didn't lose much either. I'm still stuck in bed almost 2 months now. Not sure when I can walk yet. but I can see the the titanium plate on the outside now and its here to stay.
Watching you walk up that log reminds me of a time I was fishing with a friend on a river in the Cascades. We were working our way up stream along the bank. There was an old fir log laying parallel to the stream. My friend, thinking he'd hop up on that log and make his travel a bit easier did so. On his third step he punched through the log as it was rotten he went up to mid thigh of both legs. Unbeknownst to him, the log was housing a huge yellow jacket nest. Needless to say he had created some serious unrest within the community of hornets. His only saving grace was that he was able to jump straight into the stream and wash most of them off. He was stung about 50 times on both legs. Since that day I have always been leery of walking on old logs.
I always love your videos. Keep them up. That's one hell of military tent and can't remember ever been supplied that luxury when I served in the Australian military. But fantastic to see.
Luke thanks for the update on Madison. My respect to her and all the men and women in the military. And thanks for all you do, in bringing us along on your adventures. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when you said that folders Nasty makes the soldiers to violent.
I remember the winter overnighter when the snowstorm blowing in. Awesome video that one. The nest you showed is the nest of a dirt dauber wasp. They are about 1” long and black. They look evil, but they are not.
@@toddnewsom8129 You got the spelling right and are correct that they are not generally aggressive toward humans. Still, they are implicated in 210 human deaths that resulted from two commercial aircraft crashes. The details are in an interesting Wikipedia article on mud dauber.
Wishing Madison all the best and be safe on her upcoming deployment. Thank you for your service. Looking forward to your video of your shed remodel. Maybe you should bring two of a meal option because as the saying goes, “two is one and one is none”. Lol. At least it was only for one night. Appreciate the adventure Luke. ATB to you and Susie.
I love the shed can't wait for the work to be done. It will look alsome. Like it dose still. They dont make stuff like that she'd anymore ..it was made to last with the worm wood
I'm enjoying your videos, thank you. If I can make two suggestions in regards to the use of MREs... 1st, put the water in the heater then immediately the food to be heated before the heater gets too hot to handle. 2nd, slit the MRE packet lengthwise, not across the top. Much easier to eat with the reduced depth. I cradle the heated pouch with a bandana or a shirt sleeve for comfort. The issued spoon can reach without messing up your hand or clothing.
We’re so addicted to this channel and we would like another adventure, in the shed. Lol! Thank you, for the fun and the entertainment. 👍😁🙏Johnny, Montréal, Canada
Luke its Creedence Clearwater Revival not Clearence!...lol. You must of heard that version at KMart when they were still open! You made me laugh bro! Sweet tent too!
Luke, your channel has been a great reference and inspiration for camping and general adventuring out there in the world. When it comes to MREs, yeah... some of them really suck in terms of taste, but really, they're great to do what they intend to do: keep you from starving. A couple cool tricks for you in the future if you haven't tried it yet; use the drink pouch to keep small papers or maps dry. Also, if you don't use the heating element for a meal, put about half the normal amount in, put it back in the overpouch and, BAM! you have a nice way to keep your core warm for easily over 5 hours in cold weather. Keep up the great work and best wishes for your daughters safe return!
When I served from 92-96 and again from 98-01, we put that cheese in a pocket, worked for a few hours. It heated it up and kneaded it. Works with the peanut butter also.
Luke, if/when you put up the plastic door on the shed, may I suggest you try using a translucent shower curtain. I've used one (still good after 2 years in my shelter) and it is excellent! I ran 550-cord through the grommets to slide it open and close, it is also more durable than most plastics.
Hahahahah I’m only half way in the video and Luke’s away walking up the mountain 🏔 again !! Hahaa man he’s got some energy that fella Love him These videos are gems All of em
I definitely remember the rock outcropping adventure - freakin' awesome! Is that the one where you admitted to being less than fond of spiders? And the shed, yeah, the shed! I remember when you installed the stove - another very cool episode! Looking forward to the renovation project!
It’s still locked down there? Cases are spiking here cause we open back up a week ago. My mom just got it. She listens to Fox News which is a conservative media outlet here. She’s sicker than she’s ever been in her life and now I am at risk because she got bad information And didn’t take the virus seriously.
Do you own a quad or side by side to keep an eye on your property? I noticed the no trespassing signs, do you have problems with people on your property?
@ 3:50, I remember that video! It was the video that I subscribed to your channel after watching. Very informative - daring (with that wind). Mud dauber (dirt dauber) @ 4:04. Yes!! give the shed some love! It will be a good place for an over night camp in very heavy snow.
okay I laughed so hard when you said the folders Nasty makes the soldiers to violent .
Mark G the funny stuff he says with the coffee “coffee jokes” he makes me laugh really hard.
Also when he said "I'm going full on nasty town." 26:54

God that’s got to be a lot of work placing the cameras and walking and going back for them. Thanks for what you do, Luke.
I agree it does seem like a lot of work I appreciate him doing it.

He has a support team that breaks trail and caters the real food he eats; ever notice he has a cell signal?
That on the face of the rock is called a wood dobber nest, it holds a flying insect similar to a wasp.
Hillies are miles a head , they are king of tents without a doubt. Nice adventure 👍🏽

I’m loving 🥰 the knife 🔪. Cracking job 👍💖🇬🇧
Surplus overnights are my absolute favorites.
US Army 84/89 stationed at Ft Bragg NC. I agree that's a real bushcraft shelter. Another great video luke, The Shed is going to be fun to watch. 👍

"At least no tree will fall on me,and that's important."
Sage advice my friend.
That MRE looks nasty. Always had good chow on my carrier.

That was the first of your videos I watched, it inspired me to get back out camping.
I know it goes without saying. But I'm very thankful for your daughters service! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲 and thanks for taking us on your adventures😁
Thank you so much for sharing these little "adventures" with us. In my past, I was able to do this sort of thing often, but current life circumstances prevent me from getting out there very often. Watching your videos will have to suffice for a while!

Hey Luke beautiful spots hope y'all are well much love your way be safe have a wonderful day
In this time it's good to be able to follow along on a virtual outdoor adventure with you. Thanks!!!
All he does is showing his. Self eating
Another excellent video. Stay safe
Chili-Mac, hands down, is the first to disappear during exercises.
In more ways than one.
Yet another fantastic review, Luke!
Gotta say, at 00:10:12 was sure you were gonna say, "Let's get this onto a tray... Nice!"
Long live Luke & Steve1989
Love Steve 1989
They need to do a crossover video in the worst way. Luke is in NC and Steve is in FL so it wouldn't be too bad for them to meet up somewhere.
That would be epic ✌🏼
Drive from either side and meet in the middle for a hike, overnight(s) and just bounce off each other.
When two people who know their stuff get talking.. then you listen and stay hush
That would be something to see👍👍

If Luke did a 5mile walking video it took him about ten miles to do it. Thanks for the great channel
#Bush craft adventure, was the first time I watched one of your posts on TH-cam, and still watching.

You test a lot of gear out. I would like to see a overnighter with your top picks. Your favorite gear, tent or tarp to sleeping bag and cook kit, your top picks for backpacks just all the kit you like the best.
Dude, that was my favorite MRE when I was in the Army MPs. I used to carry bacon bits to make it a bacon western burger.
😂

Yep

Mud dauber... They look like a wasp but are not aggressive.
Mud diver I thought

Also, if you don't use the heating element for a meal, put about half the normal amount in, put it back in the overpouch and, BAM! you have a nice way to keep your core warm for easily over 5 hours in cold weather. Keep up the great work and best wishes for your daughters safe return!
When I served from 92-96 and again from 98-01, we put that cheese in a pocket, worked for a few hours. It heated it up and kneaded it. Works with the peanut butter also.
Nice looking tent to bad it rained and turned the tent into a swing pool lol ty for sharing

A+ Luke. Another great one. I recognized the rock outcrop bushcraft site immediately. Loved that one a lot.
Another great video Luke,Thank You
Luke, if/when you put up the plastic door on the shed, may I suggest you try using a translucent shower curtain.
I've used one (still good after 2 years in my shelter) and it is excellent!
I ran 550-cord through the grommets to slide it open and close, it is also more durable than most plastics.
"I wonder if that person is still alive." 🤣

I definitely remember the rock outcropping adventure - freakin' awesome! Is that the one where you admitted to being less than fond of spiders? And the shed, yeah, the shed! I remember when you installed the stove - another very cool episode! Looking forward to the renovation project!
Tennessee opened last weekend, the 15th, and I was definitely out doing some camping. 4 days, 3 nights.
Love the overnighters!!!!
I really wish I could camp during lockdown in UK
It’s still locked down there? Cases are spiking here cause we open back up a week ago. My mom just got it. She listens to Fox News which is a conservative media outlet here. She’s sicker than she’s ever been in her life and now I am at risk because she got bad information And didn’t take the virus seriously.
Awesome Vids! My daughter is a Marine..So Proad!
Great video, made me hungry
Do you own a quad or side by side to keep an eye on your property? I noticed the no trespassing signs, do you have problems with people on your property?
Alright, let's get this out onto a tray!

@ 3:50, I remember that video! It was the video that I subscribed to your channel after watching. Very informative - daring (with that wind). Mud dauber (dirt dauber) @ 4:04. Yes!! give the shed some love! It will be a good place for an over night camp in very heavy snow.
What kind of backpack is that? Is there a video review?
I'm curious too - it looks familiar, but I couldn't read the manufacturer tag.
