Welcome back to Songs From Home, it’s episode 46 and our country has a new president-elect and the first woman vice president elect!
There are so many bridges that need to be built and we are all going to need to roll up our
sleeves on both sides of the chasm...
This song, “It’s OK To Be Sad" is from my new album “The Dirt And The Stars” and it speaks to my own emotions right now in this turbulent time…I am singing as much to myself as I am to anyone who wants to receive it.
Could there be healing instead, instead of breaking I’m hoping
That the cracks beginning to spread is me breaking open
And if I let everything in, the shadows as well as the light
How else could I know I’m alright, how else would I know?

Yesterday the world took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh of relief! Time to make America truly great again, an America where everyone has a chance at bettering their lives, where all people are free to worship as they choose and marry whomever they want, where all people are considered equal with no hate or bias because of color, sexual orientation, language, or beliefs.

This happens so often with you I’m no longer surprised… Another song I hear for the first time and I think I’ve known all my life! This is the only Songs from Home I didn’t listen to the first day it was up, somehow didn’t even know I missed it until I looked at your channel this morning. Shooting straight in the dark CD. Man was that 30 years ago? Okay so I was 33 years old when I bought that CD. LOL some of the lines that I listen to again made me realize how much I loved your music. You wrote From the Heart. Straight-shooting Mary! "Sometimes I wonder if you've ever heard the sound of a broken heart. It ain't real pretty, it ain't the thing that nice folks talk about." Wow, what a line. "She knew by the way you kissed her, when you're gone you won't miss her." . I guess some of us girls had to live those lines to really understand what you we're singing. Anyway. I love love love your music and it never gets old.

It is a beautiful song Mary, and I agree with the premise of it, however it is also OK to be happy. Happy , as a matter of fact is much better in the long run. Please take time to be happy. And please dont stop playing these wonderful songs for us all! I have come to look forward to them!

Ms. NN, it’s summer ‘21. There are devastations over this poor Planet we call home. Flood in places with normally gentle stream and rivers. Fires out west, in Siberia, drought worldwide. She’s taken some devastating blows so being sad for our blue orb in all that blackness isn’t bad to feel. Just as long we step up and help her heal and take better care of Her and She will take better care of us. Peace & blessings to you

Thank you once again - so much. As much as I feel as though I could an should be elated right now with the election results, I am struggling. Don't totally know why yet. Probably a lot of PTSD from the last four experimental years, and sadness about how horribly divided They have led us to be. Having a hard time finding the joy in much of anything.... except for MCC, Angus and his squeaky toys, and white kitty down the hall. Thank you for being a lifeline.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to figure this out, but just this morning I realized that when you're standing there in your kitchen with your guitar, I can pull down my guitar and accompany you right here in my little shack. Doing my best John Jennings impersonation. Time to get my calluses back in shape so I can play along in my own personal two-man band with MCC! How cool is that!!!

I know it is easy to say but very difficult and unlikely to feel consolation or comfort when you really feel sad, but if possible, carry on Critical Path and try to stay strong. Greetings

Beautiful bright sound on your Martin, it’s a great day to take this song to heart. So easy to feel depressed without seeing the future. You look good in your kitchen..always a nice place to hang out. Love Angus.. we have a mini English retriever(white)/poodle (white Goldendoodle) who has a great personality and keeps herself busy with chew toys and squeakies. Hail to W. Kitty. Cats sleep a lot and know she’s getting on, but she’s a beautiful lady.

Evening Audrey, 11p.m. here in Illinois with smokey skies from the fires out west and in Canada. Terrible flooding in many parts of Europe, reminiscent of what the Mississippi River has done here more times than I care to remember. I hope you’re not suffering through floods & fires in your corner of the world. With all the negatives feeling sad goes with it but each day is a new day with new hopes, new adventures to be had and the opportunity to make this World better one small step at a time. Great tune MCC! We all have our moments when sadness strikes. It is natural, but we have to return to the strong side and find happiness in life. I love the Martin but John makes incredible instruments. I bought my Martin in 1976 when I got out of the service. The D76 number 114 I think. Thank you for the Sunday concert!
