This song was used as the music to a beautiful commemorative video about my wife who died a few months back from cancer and perfectly reflects her views about the uncertainty of religions but she was committed to the lovely principals that all the great religions have at their core. It makes me cry and brings comfort at the same time - thank you MCC

Just reading this now. Hopefully "time heals" (some anyways?). And, there is nothing anyone can do to separate them from God's love. (That is what we teach at the ELCA Lutheran Confirmation classes).

Tonight is the first time that I heard this song. In my eyes I don’t see Mary as a singer but rather as a poet, and not just a poet, but rather as one of the best that we have, or have ever had!!

She is an amazing singer and songwriter. I’ve seen her a couple of times and she always reaches everyone’s soul. This is a perfect song for these crazy and uncertain times.

What an amazing talent this lady is! Songwriter, singer and musician. I could listen to her play the guitar for hours. She is truly the reigning queen of country folk music.
I happen to agree with you Tom. I spent 14 years in radio. 10 of those years being on a country station in Ontario. When I first heard Mary in '91, I was stunned by her depth of emotion, of personal loss, and lonliness, and how she wrote so honestly from the heart. I think she is certainly one of the most introspective songwriters in the world over the last 30 years or so. Take care Tom.
I echo all of your sentiments. She pours so much of herself into every song whether her own or someone else's. I believe she and Lucinda Williams are cut from the same mold.

Thank you Michael Moore and Stephen Colbert for leading us to this song which is as poignant today as it was when Mary Chapin Carpenter first sang it. I love what Michael said to Stephen on his show last night - that Nature is putting us in a time out. We need to think deeply about what we baby boomers have done to and not done for the planet Earth and what we need to do now to save it for future generations.

Go back and read Genesis again, Eve was the "darling of Creation". God's greatest creation. And Mary Chapin Carpenter is no question part of this gifted lineage. Mary has this "mother earth" sentimentality and intimacy that frames life in the most sensible ways. You can feel it, you can think it, you can remember it in your heart.
This song is beautiful . It also sounds like something Tom Petty might have written. The riffs and hooks are Petty-esque.
