@@sash0047 you say that like you're tired of hearing it, like you've never had a relationship like this. Nothing to do with mining, but being stuck in something with someone and getting out, taking a different path and paths crossed down the road. Your inner consciousness tells you one thing and your gut tells you another. Love this show, love this duet. The bond that shitty situations make between people are amazing. The respect they both have for one another and just knowing where the line is and where they stand with each other. It's a show, but it isn't fake.
This scene was the scene of season 1 that ensured I was IN for the duration of this series. TV doesnt get any better than this or any better than Justified as a series. Best show on TV at that time.
It was this scene, where Raylan pulled up his pistol and pretend shot at Boyd that I knew Raylan would never kill Boyd, and vice versa. They dug coal together. Those four words can summarize the whole series. This show is so underrated.
Show is massively underrated! This scene alone is better than 80% of stuff out there. The show is basically perfect in the sense that it’s one of only a very few shows that effortlessly pulls off complete episodic story arcs, seasonal arcs and entire series arcs flawless
Well, he wouldn't kill him I Boyd left him another choice. For example when Boyd tried to kill Ava first season. But if there wasn't someone else's or his own life at stake. Nah he wouldn't.
I wish the ending was a callback to this somehow i wanted them to kill eachother or something final cause the whole point is you aint going to make it out of Harlan Alive. Or at least put Boyd Down having him be in jail isnt a satisfactory ending for me.
And with that line, it doesn't matter whether Raylan's got one round left or not. So many of the bad guys on this show are just plain dumb as rocks, but a very few--Boyd, Mags, Quarles, a few others, are smart as Raylan himself, but they've made different choices. And that made the show.
A show the takes place alot in Harlan using Never leave Harlan alive.... Not exactly a hard point to reach. But sure, try to point out the obvious. As people with nothing to say often do.(That's a Raylan line, from the books)
One of the greatest season endings ever. I do know from personal experience growing up in a small southern outlaw town that cops and criminals do form these types of love-hate relationships and alliances. And a lot of it is based on having known each other all of their lives.
Always loved how Raylan knows Boyd is now pointing a gun at his back without looking and several thoughts flash across his face before he turns around. Their entire complicated relationship all in two seconds, friends with deep history who might (regretfully) have to kill the other, and will.
100%. I watched and rewatched this scene over and over all those yrs ago and again watching this. Still moving. Great acting, great show. Wish it was still on.
This show is just plain amazing. The acting, script, everything. I hope it stays like this. Also Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are two of the best actors I have ever seen. Walton Goggins especially is underrated. First Shane Vendrell, now Boyd Crowder. This man deserves awards. And the last minute or so of the finale was amazing. Especially when Boyd told Raylan that he was still his friend.
I don't know if this is intentional or not, but the shell ejector on Glock and "Glock Style" handguns doubles as a camber indicator. Raylans was flat, not raised, indicating the chamber is empty. That also looks to be what he's checking when he changes his hold on the gun at the end of the scene. Either coincidence or really well crafted, but I like to believe Raylan didn't know if he was empty or not - he let Boyd go. *Please note, THIS IS NOT A SAFE OR EFFECTIVE WAY TO DETERMINE IF A GUN IS LOADED! ALWAYS TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS LOADED EVEN IF YOU CLEARED IT YOURSELF
^ Well, it shows you if you have a round ready to be cycled into the magazine, but not if there's one in the chamber. Either, way, as you said, it's a nice detail. They got guns right in Justified, for the most part.
I believe you mean extractor, considering you are not able to view the ejector unless you field strip the pistol or lock the slide rearward and view from top of the ejection port. And unfortunately you may not have noticed but this clip is mirrored so he's not viewing the side with the extractor. So this is neither coincidence or well crafted.
What a difference there relationship in the season 6 series finale has become. And still, it's kinda the same. Just wondering if Boyd would still call Raylan a ''friend''. So sad it's over, but at least it ended on a high note. Thanks for that.
The cast, crew did an amazing job in this series... honestly some of the best writing in modern television as well! And on top of that they knew exactly when the end. Truly a great show
Can we just take a moment to recognise that before the genius acting ability of this 5-star cast, the entire universe was the creation of one Elmore Leonard.
Season 1 and 3 are the greatest. And the use of this track is genius. This was when Boyd had layers to him. I think the writers convoluted him later by making him too evil. Here he was much balanced. Raylan pointing the gun, but making that shooting sound was his way of telling us he doesn't want to know if his gun is empty or not. Rather, he wants Boyd to succeed on his mission.
Love the chemistry of these two dudes, just like a brothers fight,, heart is always there,, never get bored seeing clips like these eventhough i've watched the whole series 3 times
This....This was heavy and sad yet it was the best ending I seen before I mean just imagined if your friend from childhood who you thought was the lowest of the low goes and says "No,Raylan I'm going to bet my life on you being the only friend I have left in this world..." and then drive's off and you watch him that just I can't even express it in words and the song even makes it even better can't wait to see what happens next season.
One of the best shows I have ever watched. It has been so long now I think I can start a new Marathon. Matter of fact it's a good time it will be part of my social distancing
With that first season, and these finally seconds of it, I knew this was gonna be one of my favorite shows ever.... and that “You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive” by Brad Paisley would be one of my favorite songs to listen to, ever, as well. Lol
Anyone know anything about semi-auto pistols. Boyd says he's empty. At the very end Raylan turns over the gun. The slide is not locked back. The gun was not empty. So, I guess Raylan was the only friend Boyd had left in this world :)
Boyd's line might be my favorite from the whole series. They make the best "frienamies" I've ever seen in a series, literally to the very end of the series. The writing in this show was fantastic.
Best show on TV right now!!!!!!! Timothy Olyphant is awesome in everything he does. Every movie. Great song for a great show. Perfect ending to season 1! Can't wait for season 2.
Don't know about anyone else but I do find myself speaking in every day life using the same tones and intonations as Walton did with Boyd Crowder. Helps me feel relaxed somehow. 😂
After the pilot, season 1 wasn't really hooking me. It was entertaining enough, but it started getting really good after Boyd and Bo get out of prison, when the story becomes more serialized. And after this ending... yeah, I was completely locked in.
I agree. While I enjoyed how it was a "villain of the week" type series, it started getting really good a little over halfway when the Crowders became prominent. Then season 2 was just plain awesome. As was 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The song is "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". Old, old bluegrass song. It's been recorded many times, most recently by Brad Paisley, but also Darrell Scott, Patty Loveless, and so on.
Here in Argentina, this chapter was spent long before and are now showing the past, did not quite understand because I developed so I'm looking for space and I really caught the first episode and to many years that a series does not me to put both in a story like Rylan, because I feel identified with the character, greetings and good year for you!

The song "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" was written by Darrell Scott. He is an amazing writer and performer. They probably had Brad Paisley do the song just for his name.

nick two thumbs way up, couldn't agree more.
Fuckin awesome ending to a kickass series that came out of nowhere and rocked out for 6 bad ass seasons.
Yeaaaa!!!!!
"No Raylan I'm going to bet my life on you being the only friend I have left in this world..."

You should seek out the patty loveless version.
The guitar riff as Raylan mock fires his gun then looks at, made this scene as far as I'm concerned.
One of the greatest season endings ever.
I do know from personal experience growing up in a small southern outlaw town that cops and criminals do form these types of love-hate relationships and alliances. And a lot of it is based on having known each other all of their lives.

One of the most moving scenes in a first rate series.
Always loved how Raylan knows Boyd is now pointing a gun at his back without looking and several thoughts flash across his face before he turns around. Their entire complicated relationship all in two seconds, friends with deep history who might (regretfully) have to kill the other, and will.

Plus if he would have shot the last bullet, the allies would have been locked back. That’s the first and biggest clue.
My favorite scene of the whole series!!!! There relationship wrapped up in 90 seconds.
If ever two actors played out a scene it was those two. Well done...
last scene, last epsiode, EPIC !!!
Just finished this series after starting it many years ago. Loved it all from start to finish. "We dug coal together." Says all it needs to say.
What a difference there relationship in the season 6 series finale has become. And still, it's kinda the same. Just wondering if Boyd would still call Raylan a ''friend''. So sad it's over, but at least it ended on a high note. Thanks for that.
Nick revoked it was a really good ending...most awesome closure to a great running series.
Nick revoked And in the end they all left Harlan alive. Who'd have thought.
Yes, I think by the last scene, Boyd would definitely still consider Raylan probably his only and dearest friend. As well he should.
Of course he would. They dug coal together :)
Yes he would not only because they dug coal together, but because Boyd saved him a few times that Raylan is willing to attest to

You'll never leave Harlan Alive.
