Based on Elmore Leonard’s novella “Fire in the Hole,” Justified was developed by Graham Yost and stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens, a lawman who finds himself drawn back to his home state of Kentucky. In Justified’s final season, the long brimming conflict between Raylan and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) will finally come to a head. The series co-stars Walton Goggins as ‘Boyd Crowder;’ Nick Searcy as ‘Chief Deputy Art Mullen;’ Jacob Pitts as ‘Deputy Marshal Tim Gutterson;’ Erica Tazel as ‘Deputy Marshal Rachel Brooks;’ Joelle Carter as ‘Ava Crowder;’ and Jere Burns as ‘Wynn Duffy.’ Yost wrote the pilot and serves as Executive Producer/Writer on the series. Executive Producers on the series include Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Michael Dinner, Fred Golan, Dave Andron, Don Kurt, Taylor Elmore, Timothy Olyphant, and the late Elmore Leonard. Justified is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions.

Actually he plays by what the writers write! It's called acting, he's a fictitious person!

So many people realize too late that Raylan doesn't make threats. He promises, and then he follows through.

He’s a quick draw specialist who was a firearms instructor for the US Marshall Service. It makes perfect sense within the confines of entertainment that he would be the best quick draw on the show he’s the protagonist on. So dumb.
Great from the first scene to the last, Justified is the rare show that never ran out of steam and went out on a high note.

Other than the female prison side quest, I agree 100%. Great dialogue, great action, great characters.
There were about 5 total dragging eps over the seasons. But basically.

Over the years there have been few shows which actually got it right, this was one of them.
The best thing about the show is how colorful and fleshed-out the villains were, even if they only lasted one episode. Obviously not this one in the pilot episode in a five minute scene, but pretty much all the others. Once this show found its sea legs, it was at the top. Reminds me of Firefly that way.

Heck I think even this one. You kinda feel like you know Tommy Bucks after this. It's partly why the "dynamite in guy's mouth" story and this shooting get referenced even through the 6th season. Pretty awesome mileage outta couple min scene, as you mentioned.
Two of my favorite shows ever star Timothy Olyphant as it's lead, Deadwood and Justified.
Check him out in Santa Clarita diet (spelling). Exceptional actor.

I recently watched this whole series again and man, what a great show.
Same I can’t wait for the limited series continuing his story about him raising his teenage daughter and in Detroit i think he is taking down the dixie mafia bosses they are based outta Detroit.
This series is so darn good. From season 1 to 6, it's just the best. Can't wait for primeval.

My favourite thing about this show is that one spectacular stare down and draw situation with that takes place every season. It is so western.
They had me hooked with this start, and it just got better as it went.

Raylan is the Clint Eastwood (young version) of the Hill Billy Country. Watching season 5 - got totally hooked in this series. Love watching him draw. Great acting and most of the scripts are well done.
Which is why he's great as the Spirit of the West in Rango. He's totally a younger slicker Eastwood in everything he does
Raylan is US Marshall Mathew Dillon's great great illegitimate grandson. His great great grandmother Kitty Givens , ran a saloon, gambling and a brothel.
What a show, so re-watchable.

I just finished it for the first time. Thanks to my son. I heard a lot of good comments about Raylan's nemisis.
That doofus never won once in 6 series. He came close several times but always failed. Then Where did he end up?
I was sadly disappointed in the end. I wanted Raylan and his missus back together. Oh yeah I also wanted Raylan in a shoot out with Boyd and Boyd to have a chestfull. I don't mean medals folks.

Yea, part of the Star channel. Disney owns FX, and access to FX is geo-blocked here in NZ. I guess Disney has preferential rights to FX programming because it also has other program rights. International syndication rights outside of the states are a whole different business altogether. NCIS is another strange one. NCIS & NCIS LA are screened by a free-to-air broadcaster owned by Discovery. But another FTA state broadcaster owns the rights to NCIS Hawaii. When they have the cross-over stories it can get a bit confusing. 😂
Best...series...ever.
I knew after watching this scene this was the start of an absolutely epic series. It might have been the best 1 hour drama ever.
This is one of my favorite scenes I have ever watched on the video.
I think it was like, episode 3 of season 2 that was the first episode I ever watched of this show. By the time episode 4 rolled around I had watched the whole first season , the first two episodes of season two, and episode 3 once again just to make sure I was fully caught up. What an amazing show.
I had to go back and buy season 1, because i started somewhere in season 2. Season 2 was the best. You can't beat Mags.
I am so excited they rebooted this series.

This series had the best talent. Walton Goggins who played Boyd Crowder, has a terrific filmography for one example.

well, since the old man is gone they would need, perforce, to rely on pale imitators the way the sherlock holmes ecosphere did decades after sir arthur cocnan doyle died; not sure about that. VERY mixed results from rubbish (cough cough guy ritchie cough cough) to the sublime ian mcKellen in "mr. holmes" (2015).

Just some really nice acting work here between star Timothy Olyphant and character actor Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects). Looking forward to the new season.
They used up a great villain in the first minutes.
I always love seeing great character actors get some respect. Peter Greene does such a good job holding space onscreen for himself opposite some of boldest and broadest talents in the business -- Olyphant here, Martin Lawrence in Blue Streak, Jim Carrey in The Mask.
I adore this series more than anything that has been on TV. One DVD boxed set was not enough. I got one more as a back-up. The writing was so good. The recurring minor characters was a compelling element of the show. And "We dug coal together." That puts my heart in place.
Please, do the fans proud with the revival season. Rumor has it that it will not be set in Kentucky. Won't be the same if that's true. I fell in love with Harlan County during the show's run. I'm hoping to name my next pooch Harlan.
Why not call your next pooch Raylan? Maybe get him a Tan Marshal hat. :-)
Set in Detroit - another Leonard novel that they have rewritten the main character as Raylan. 🤞🏻

Well, if you haven't heard, they're bring it back with a series called *Justified: City Primeval* . It still has U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens played by Timothy Olyphant, but set in Detroit.
Private release date is June 1, 2023. Public release date is supposed to be this summer.
Only issue with it, is that it was one of the very few shows that ended absolutely perfectly. The writers have a Harlan County mountain to climb. No pressure.
Set in Detroit!? C'mon now, the charm of the original series was that it took place (for the most part) in the hills & hollers of Kentucky.
I hope that the guy enjoyed his crab cakes.

Wish they had gone to a wide shot to see Raylan’s draw from a seated position with that patio chair arm obstructing.
Interesting introduction to Raylan. The conversation reveals the mobster had Raylan at his mercy but let him live. Raylan couldn’t have that hanging over him so he forces the confrontation at the restaurant. One of the few times the show had Raylan in a serious position of vulnerability.
He is also a mobster it’s possible he did not have raylan in such a position
Bring it back...New season
Not quite correct. Tommy bucks had Raylan at his mercy, true. He tied Raylan to a tree, then tied another man to a tree across from him. Then he taped a stick of dynamite into the mans mouth, lit the fuse, and walked away. Raylan had to watch a man get his head blown off. (This story is revealed later in the series)
That's why Raylan did what he did. It wasn't because he couldn't live with the fact that a mobster let him live. He wouldn't care about that. It's because that mobster did something heinous, and forced Raylan to watch. THAT's what was hanging over him.
