  • Parking lot sessions are exactly what they sound like: see a decent parking lot with a cool view, skate it. This one is the Park and Ride in Draper, UT. Cops were in and out about 5 times while I was there doing routine patrol, but they were cool and let me stay.

when it looks so effortless and easy, you know you're watching the real deal.
....any videos for newbie/novice skaters would be awesome :-)

    Joey
This and most of your other videos are truly inspirational. Thank you for taking the time to make them. I love watching them and find them incredibly helpful and very motivational. I take weekly lessons from my coach Massi (formerly Iranian National inline coach, who, fortunately for me, emigrated to southern California a couple of years ago). I've been doing this every week for over a year now, with the express goal of learning the proper double push technique. I'm finally starting to get it, and the feeling of doing it correctly is quite exciting.....even thrilling. But you already know that. Massi and I have an inside joke that involves you. As each week passes and I master yet another of the endless drills that go into producing the right technique, I say to Massi "are we ready to email Joey Mantia yet?" Massi always says "you're improving a lot, but let's put off emailing Joey for another week or so, while we keep working on your technique." It's my goal to finally get my technique to the point where Massi will finally say "OK, we're ready to email Joey Mantia now." That's the goal; I may never reach it, but the effort and the journey are most enjoyable. Please keep the videos coming. Thank you, bern

Parking lot sessions, the staple food of inline technique workout when you don't have access to indoor sessions. Go Joey 2022!

I stopped speed skating in the mid 90s. Wish I never stopped.

Start again. I did and still get the same good vibes when I'm skating.

Jeremy Carver it’s definitely on my mind. Been looking into skates that aren’t to much of a hit on the pocketbook.

virus frame? I don't get it?! With all that power, that frame can't be stiff enough for you. Why no triple X? Would be great to hear your reasoning behind this.

All I can think while watching this (as a new skater) is: “what if he hits a pebble?!”

haha, they're only a problem when they hang out on the road in large numbers, if they're social distancing, usually you just roll right over 'em

Joey Mantia Most of the time, just due to the rounded or bullet profile of the wheels, pebbles are pushed to the side instead of rolled over as would happen on roller skates or a skateboard/longboard

i don't, it's hard to enjoy free skating on speed skates, they're a little too fast and lack the needed support for most urban applications. Also, the wheels are usually not great for powerslides if you need to get out of trouble quick
