    Jody, I've been learning a lot from your vids, thank you! I'm just a DIY hobbyist, but there aren't any classes in my area so I'm teaching myself with the help of videos and books. My next welding project is going to be a welding cart, though probably out of 1" 0.065 wall square tube, not the heavy stuff you lucked into. Going to try it with your TIG finger and gas lens kit and find out how hard what you make look easy really is! If it holds together I'll be happy enough for a first TIG project. The little welding table I did to learn OA welding is still going strong so there's hope.

BTW I build motorcycles and other projects in my spare time and really LIKE that you provide metric references throughout ! THANKS for what you do !

    Jody, After watching Lanse videos using a cold cut saw, we bought one for work. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread! No more red hot pieces, no more dust and fiberglass debris in the air, and the cuts are very , very accurate. I have the same Makita saw as you at home, but that will go soon in favour of the cold cut saw.

      Jody,
      This one is made by Fein. It is called a Slugger 14" Metal Cutting Saw. Order Number is 72905361120. Up here in Canada it was around $600 and blades are about $150 each. Should be much less in US. The blades last a long time compared to chop saw blades. We have had it about a year now and so far, it is great. Lanse got his from Northern Tool I believe, and for the most part, they are all the same. 1300 RPM compared to chop saws.

    I'm surprised no one has pointed out that using the same grinding media for your parts as your tungsten is an excellent way to contaminate the tungsten and create welding issues. Definitely envious of the shop though. Love the videos.

    • @ssj3gohan456
      @ssj3gohan456 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OSUNickTheGreek Is that a real issue on just straight tungsten though? Especially grinding away from the tip? I'd assume any significant contaminants are ejected away from the tip anyway.

    • @BluegrassGearsAndGuns
      @BluegrassGearsAndGuns 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +demultiplexer grinding direction doesn't matter. you should always use a dedicated stone/disc to grind tungsten.

    When you were laying out the sides to weld, you welded one side, then stacked the other on top to mirror it. Would it have worked as well if you had stacked both sides up at once, then just tacked all the inside and outside edges?
    Love the videos, thanks for all the great info.

    Like it. Looks similar to a cart I built few years ago. Even same wheels. Are you gonna use a drop axle design to keep it low center? Couple of 3 or 4 inch schedule 40 cut in half make nice cable hangers.

    • @weldingtipsandtricks
      @weldingtipsandtricks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like that design, savin a bit of material and it looks cool..kinda floating like, but from a previous question, how "flexy" is it Jody? I've got an inverter myself and may try and copy that design. Did you make it so the welder sits in the middle portion or on top? I'd love to see some finished pics if it as I think it's pretty slick. That little trick with the mag mount tool for the end caps was pretty clever as well. As I'm getting older I'm losing my common sense and seeing that little tool work for you makes so much sense. I think I would have crusted up my gloves not thinking of the way you showed. Thanks and keep up the clean and interesting work.

    In June, I am getting a Miller Bobcat 225. Miller wants $700 for a thing to hold it. No way. haha I have been into making my own stuff, since I got my first, cheap welder in June. So, I know I can make my own cart. There ARE some things I can ask though. First, the welder, with gas and oil, will weight almost 500 pounds. The little welder I have now, can weld 1/4 inch mild steel. Will I be able to make a strong enough cart, with that? Ok, so, let us say I can. I used some wood, to make a model of the cart. I don't want just a flat metal piece. So, I made, let's say a skeleton. Just a box, with beams in the middle. You know, to make it stronger. Alright, then, I would get some of those rods they have at Home Depot and weld one to each side. Maybe stack two, just to make it taller. Man, I got that down. Though I just started, I found I am good at welding. I figure things out you know? The ONLY thing that I am lost to, is the wheels. If I wanted to put a set of, almost tractor tires on the back, be them small, how can I do that? I just got into the tool thing. haha Hey, I just turned 31, so, I guess it is a little late. Those wheels go on tractors no? So, what can I make, that will allow me to put them on the back of a cart?

      +Steven Kelly Frank I am Scheduled to film some dualshield videos with Andrew Cardin in 2 weeks so the first dualshield video should be out shortly after that. Andrew took 5th place in welding at World Skills so a tag team video should be a lot of fun and hopefully more interesting than a video with just me.

      Right on Jody, very much looking forward to hearing more from Andrew, what an awesome and dedicated young man. We need more people out there like him to get kids die hard interested in welding. It's a beautiful and dying talent/career, and kids need to put their damn phones down and get some hood time. Thanks again Jody for all the great videos and projects over the years, you and your talent have helped me grow immensely as a welder/fabricator. Thank you for being you man.

    Sorry, but not impressed with the amount of distortion..You should have a better idea of how much it's going to pull and be able to get it straighter..Saying it's just a welding cart does not mean you should make it crooked..
