Great reaction Alan, Onset is a fucking master piece, I have introduced a lot of different people to Band Maid, and it is always Onset that just totally blows them away. No disrespect to Saiki because she is talented as fuck, and I love everything Band Maid does, but Onset is just a game changer.

@@alan-reacts65 I have a great idea my friend, instead of suggesting another track, why don't you connect with me off TH-cam and we can talk and do a Band Maid reaction together! Lol. I am the humbled co-host of The MCU'S Bleeding Edge TH-cam channel/ Podcast, but I also do some reactions myself occasionally, I just call them Bleeding Edge Reactions, if you have a moment check out one of mine, I started with Band Maid and I have since also done some VOB, Lovebites, Nemophilia, BRATS, etc....I have been doing a video reaction collaboration series focused on Band Maid where I introduce the ladies to different creators and friends for their first times, and I share their initial reaction to the songs I choose for them, I actually have several new ones coming out in the next few days. My next goal I decided would be to start actually doing some reaction collabs with actual fans of Band Maid, and I already have started lining some up and connected with several members of the fandom through Facebook, it never occurred to me to just get with another reactor, but it actually sounds like a totally legit idea. Let me know what you think Alan, you can easily reach me at either our Facebook page for The MCU'S Bleeding Edge, or on themcusbleedingedge.org, or at mcusbleedingedge@gmail.com. I would have to go through your vids on your channel and see what you have already reacted too, but if you have not done Voices Of Baceprot yet that would be a good direction to go in, or if you have any interest check out BRATS. I don't get a ton of views or whatever for doing the BRATS reactions, I don't really care lol, I do this stuff for fun and I enjoy the hell out of BRATS, they have a very unique sound and are working with a weird combination of like 90s industrial rock, techno, dance, alternative rock, think a very crude version of Nine Inch Nails but with a more poppy vibe and sort of gothic themes. But anyways, check them out if you want something fun and different to react too. If I do hear from you I'd love to get together and team up to do possibly Band Maid " Play" , or " Domination", something live because I prefer to react too live songs, but if you have any thoughts on the songs we could cover just let me know and I am sure we can find a middle ground. Very good to have a minute to engage with you my friend! I appreciate you pinning my comment and I thought you pulled off a really well done reaction to Onset man. You didn't over talk it, you let the song play for the most part, and when you did pause the song it was because you really had something to say and you pointed out some solid influences and connections with other bands/ musicians. I am not an expert of Band Maid at all, lol, I have only been a member of the fandom for about 3+ months, and they are not only my favorite band, but the band that actually brought music back into my life after for many years I had made peace with the fact that I would never re-connect with my love or desire to hear music. So Band Maid is very special to me and that is my main motivation in doing any sort of reaction videos, other than just trying to make sure more as many people as possible hear their music.

First, the bad news. The venue this was played at, Zepp Tokyo, unfortunately closed down at the beginning of 2022. Zepp, which is a subsidiary of Sony, has two other venues in Tokyo, Zepp DiverCity and Zepp Haneda, plus other Zepp venues. Also, BAND-MAID was scheduled to make their debut in the legendary Budokan in February of 2021, but that was canceled due to the pandemic. Still, it's a symbol of their rising popularity that they were invited to play there. Lastly, the tiny hat that Akane is wearing here has since gone by the wayside because it was too tight.
The origin story you mentioned is correct. The rhythm guitarist, Miku Kobato, first worked at a maid cafe in her hometown of Kumamoto. At some point, she moved to Tokyo and worked at the @homecafe ("At Home Cafe") which has a fleet of maids and an active TH-cam channel. She joined an idol trio called Lil Cumin, but she wasn't feeling the music and resigned after a year. She went to Lil Cumin's management and told them she wanted a rock group and that she wanted to keep Lil Cumin's maid image they had toward the end of their run. The management said okay, so Miku found Kanami, the lead guitarist and composer, on TH-cam. Kanami had previously worked with Akane, the drummer, and Akane knew MISA from music school. Akane and MISA were in at least one music video together before BAND-MAID, too. Miku knew her voice wasn't right for rock music, so they held auditions and found Saiki. Around then, Kanami started teaching Miku to play guitar. Also, Miku Kobato and MISA are stages names, Saiki Atsumi uses her real name, and I'm not sure about Kanami and Akane. I think MISA is the tallest of the Japanese female musicians I'm aware of at around 5' 7".
It's funny that you mention John Bonham. Jimmy Page saw B-M play in 2016 and was so impressed with Akane that he met her and got a photo taken with her. Unfortunately, fans started saying that he told he she was like the reincarnation of John Bonham, but I've never been able to find any proof of that, so I dismiss it until someone can prove it to be true.
BAND-MAID is the first group I found when I decided that my music had grown stale and needed an injection of new blood. They led to me finding so many other bands and artists not just from Japan but from around the world, too. As far as where to go next, "Play" live is always a good choice. It's from a different concert and was the third-to-last song they played that night. Here's a link.

Having read where you talk about feeling stale with music , I think that what I’m realising is that ( selfishly) I’m being pushed ( gladly ) into seeing new bands by the channel , and I love that now . And on reflection I do agree with your feeling of realising now that I was stale ( to a degree) . Band Maid - I’m going to go on that journey now , but slowly and with some grace , to respect my channel and you guys , I want to be open to learning and listening . My John Bonham reference was just how I was hearing the drums and it was high high standard and the percussive element is great and I just genuinely it was in the moment appropriate to bring JB in as a reference . I was actually being very respect, I hope that was clear ? Now it’s time to learn . Thank you for the link , I save them by playing 2 seconds .. as you have given me it , I will react to it , this is why I’m here 😊👍

Jens I absolutely love Band Maid so much that in my 4 months of finding out about the band I have literally purposely only listened too maybe 6 songs total. I totally believe all of you when you say that all the songs are great, I just really want to savor these songs very slowly. And you have to understand what Band Maid personally means to me. I suffered a traumatic brain injury and became physically disabled back in July 2014, and after I woke up from my coma and then spent 4 years just laying in a bed recovering from the life altering physical injuries I sustained and the severe trauma I experienced in the incident where I essentially took on an entire group of white racists to save my black best friends life one night, I lost absolutely all interest and desire to so much as listen to any music at all, just like many things I used to enjoy and lost and pieces of my actual former self that just disappeared in my new/ second life. At the 4 month mark I was almost at 8 full years in recovery from what happened to me, and a few things have slowly come back, but I had just made peace that music was over for me for the rest of my life. And then one day I caught two Band Maid Reaction videos and that was it my good friend! I became a Band Maid fan that day, I started doing my first ever reaction videos to the band, and honestly I had been a content creator for years thank God, I found video content creation during a stage of my recovery where I had no purpose and making content gave me one again in life and became a huge piece of my overall evolution after I really dug in and decided that I was going to fight for any sort of life I could have, anything was better then dying in that fucking bed dude. So I am the co-host of The MCU'S Bleeding Edge YT Channel and I do what I call video reaction Collabs with other creators, friends, I have had other TBI survivors, etc....and I introduce my Guests to Band Maid, I call them Bleeding Edge Reactions, I think you should check one out sometime, you would probably appreciate my clear love for these spectacular young women. Oh and I am 39 and going to be checking out 40 soon lol, I'll let you know how it goes when I cross that point Jens. You are clearly a very dedicated fan of the ladies an I respect that my friend.

A genre busting mix of all rock styles from groovy to thrash metal as well as acoustic material which also still sounds like rock. but generally they are a hard rock band as opposed to Love Bites etc who are metal. Nice reaction- more please- When you see her, the lead singer, Saiki, is fantastic. When Jimmy Page saw the band he liked Akane's drumming and went back stage to have his photo taken with her. Band Maid Info dump
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku contacted her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her. Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo.
Now we have the "Core" members. I'm not too sure about the part but if I am wrong other Maidiacs will correct me in the comments. The 4 members worked out some songs and a setlist and from my understanding, they had actually performed 2 or 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. I may be wrong on that so don't take that as canon. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. (I'm not sure about this part as I can't find the comment I read over on Reddit) She had been a member of a group with 8 other people and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool Clothes", and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until I believe it was 2 days before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract.
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
    ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which only charted to #26 in Japan.

Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill.
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album hadn't even charted, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their TH-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.

@@alan-reacts65 lol don’t worry. While most Japanese acts play metal, what typically separates Band-Maid is that they play hard rock with great vocals you can singalong to while maintaining pop sensibilities (always 3:30-4:20 in length, super catchy, easy to follow melodies and riffs no matter how complex). That said, they also have some metal songs, some punk songs, some pop-rock, punk-pop, early 00s alt-rock, micro-prog-metal, and rainy day ballads and cheerful summer ballads. Even a latin song in Japanese of all things. The best thing to do is to go in with no preconceived expectations of what the next song is going to sound like, cuz you’ll have to reset your brain nearly every time lol.

You've got perspectives, and I always like listening to perspectives. Many of those perspectives, I agree with, including the concept that Metal is simply a variation of Hard Rock. In Band-Maid's case, you're dead spot-on, as the girls call themselves an "impossibly hard-rocking band".

Add me to the list of Rock/Metal fans that's been listening for decades (I'm 55) and who now has added Band Maid to my own short list of greatest Rock bands of all time. And it's not because they have a few awesome songs and then a bunch of good ones; they have many awesome songs and literally all the rest are good to great. My least favorite song of theirs is still a good song, and I can't say the same for hardly any other bands! What makes them special, and so addictive, is that no matter how heavy the song, or how fast, or how progressive, there's always an underlying pop sensibility that makes you want to hear the songs over and over again. You heard it in Onset with Kanami's lead guitar, and that awesome melodic tapping. Their songs are catchy, but with no compromises made in technicality, or composition. My favorite video to recommend is the 2 song live ("on-line live", during COVID) video of "Manners" and "Black Hole". Both songs are on their newest album and show their versatility very well. "Manners" is a groovy classic rock style anthem, while "Black Hole" is a fast and heavy progressive rock gem. That video has official subtitles, btw, if you choose to see the full lyrics in English (their songs are often a mix of Japanese and English vocals).

Nice reaction. You aren't the first to bring up Rush after watching "onset". Many Band-Maid fans are also Rush fans, and many other classic bands. Speaking of those bands, you brought up John Bonham so I guess you'll be told that Jimmy Page met Band-Maid's drummer Akane and the whole "reincarnation of John Bonham" thing but that isn't true. All that we know was said was that he liked her performance and asked for a photo with her.
You're also right about paying their dues. They travelled in a van, touring a bunch of tiny venues in Europe, not speaking any of the languages, while under a deadline for completing an album. Songwriter Kanami (lead guitar) was under so much stress she was literally throwing up. I particularly remember a tiny, dark basement in Poland. Now they are selling out thousands of tickets in the US in 30 minutes, despite the tour being 8 months away. No one works harder or shows more appreciation for their fans than Band-Maid does.

Great reaction to a great band. You have now reacted to the triumvirate of my favorite Japanese rock/metal bands - Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. I don't mean favorite Japanese all-female rock/bands, but my three favorites of all Japanese rock/metal bands. You have gotten a lot of comments for this video, and deservedly so. Although I am not going to read them al, I can guess that you have received a lot of information about Band-Maid. I have created a brief history of Band-Maid (although long for a comment) that I hope you can refer to in the future.
Band-Maid started from the brain of Miku Kobato in early 2013. She had been in an Idol trio that didn't catch on and like many Japanese girls trying to make it as an Idol singer, she worked in a Maid Cafe to make ends meet. When her trio fizzled out, she approached her label and suggested a band dressed like maids but who played hard rock. This was the same year Babymetal was blowing up in Japan (the nest year they would blow up worldwide). I have no doubt the Babymetal success helped with the label giving Miku the green light. At this time Miku was a pop singer that didn't play an instrument, yet wanted to form a rock band. Miku went on a talent search and found the TH-cam channel of a singer songwriter guitarist named Kanami Tono. Miku was very impressed with Kanami and pitched the idea, maid outfits and all. Since Kanami preferred writing songs and playing guitar much more than singing, she agreed to join and even liked the maid outfit idea. Kanami also suggested they add a drummer named Akane Hirose, who Kanami had worked with before. Akane wasn't thrilled with maid outfits and had no desire to join an all girl group, but she respected Kanami a great deal so said yes. Akane had gone to school with a bass player named Misa and suggested her to Miku. Misa, however, didn't like the maid outfit part at all. After thinking about it for a day, she also said yes. Miku had her band.
The label supplied a few songs and the band started playing. Miku discovered a big problem. She realized that she simply didn't have the voice to front a rock band with the caliber of musicians surrounding her. To her credit, Miku started looking for a lead singer. While at her Label's offices, she heard someone singing and was liked what she heard. The voice belonged to Saiki Atsumi who was a dancer and backup singer. Miku told her about the band (leaving out the maid outfit part) and asked Saiki to audition for the band. The audition went very well so the band invited her to join and told her about the maid outfits. Saiki disliked the maid outfit part more than Misa, but she really liked the band. She said yes.
Band-Maid released their first album, cleverly titled Maid in Japan, on January 8, 2014. All the music and lyrics of the 8 song, 30 minute album were written by others. The mini album failed to chart at all in Japan. Their second album called New Beginning (9 songs and 33 minutes) released November 18, 2015 only reached #64 on the Japanese Oricon charts. Again all the music and lyrics were written by others. Two good things came out of that album though. The first was the music video for Thrill, the first song on the album. The music video was released the year prior to no fanfare at all. Band-Maid's small label was going to end the band and make Miku and Saiki a singing, dancing pop duo because New Beginning was not selling. Then suddenly western audiences discovered the music video of Thrill and Band-Maid exploded outside of Japan. The Thrill music video now has over 17 million views. Second, a sub-label of the giant Nippon Crown came calling and signed Band-Maid.
Now with a new and bigger label, Band-Maid released Brand New Maid (8 songs, 31 minutes) on May 18, 2016. In addition a song by Kanami Tono was included on the album, with Miku and Saiki writing lyrics for the song and two others. The album reached #19 on the Oricon chart. Now Miku had a new problem, she didn't really know how to play guitar yet. On the albums, Kanami played her parts and in small concerts she just pretended (she was obviously just holding the guitar on the Thrill music video). In 2016, the new label was sending them on an overseas tour in front of crowds larger than they ever had in Japan. Lucky for Miku, she knew a very talented guitarist eager to teach her - Kanami Tono. Miku started finally to learn to play the guitar she had been holding. The 2016 tour was a success, especially in Europe. They also had a show in Seattle, Washington.
On July 17, 2017, the album Just Bring It was released. With 13 songs it was by far the longest album (50 minutes). I also consider it the first true Band-Maid album. Kanami wrote 9 of the 13 songs and the lyrics on 11 songs were written by Miku and Saiki, primarily Miku. The album reached #16 on the Oricon charts. It also charted in the UK.
On February 14, 2018, the band released World Domination (14 songs, 54 minutes). All the lyrics were written by Miku (except one cowritten by Saiki) and all songs were written by Kanami (3 she cowrote with non-band members). This album reached #9 in Japan and charted worldwide. It is my second favorite Band-Maid album.
In 2019, Band-Maid returned to the United States but only four shows. On December 4, 2019, they released Conqueror (15 songs, 55 minutes). While they were working on Conqueror, they were contacted by Tony Visconti because he had heard them and wanted to produce a Band-Maid song. Kanami sent him one of her songs and assumed that he would changes. He did not. Tom Kenney wrote the lyrics and Miku and Saiki flew to New York to record the vocals. The song, The Dragon Cries, is the 11th track on the album.
They were able to video a live concert in February 2020, before the pandemic shut things down. Videos from that performance have become very popular on TH-cam. Sometime in 2020, Band-Maid changed labels, going from a sub-label of Nippon Crown to a Pony Canyon, a major label, On January 13, 2021, they released Unseen World (12 songs, 45 minutes). All the songs were written by Kanami and all lyrics by Miku. Unseen World is my favorite Band-Maid album and in my top 10 of last year. Kanami wrote the song Manners as a tribute to western classic rock. It is my favorite on the album and possibly one of my favorite songs of the last 20 years.

Best rock band on the planet. ONSET was the first thing that showed me what they were truly capable of.
Kanami creates the musical format, Miku writes the lyrics the others supplement with their parts and Saiki is quality control.
They perform a huge variety of styles, all of which are done with equal excellence.
Miku is the driving force and Kanami, IMO is a musical genius. You mentioned John Bonham, when they were in England Jimmy Page had to go backstage to meet Akane and have his picture taken with her. He made the same comparison.

Great reaction! It's good to hear the thoughts the band inspires, as opposed to some reactors who really haven't much to say beyond, "I like it", "it was good/great", etc. Personal insight is everything. And don't worry about the Band-Maid fans - you may be corrected, but seldom if ever chastised. For the most part we're just very passionate about spreading the word and wanting people like yourself to get to know their music and the incredible ladies behind it (the more you know the more you love them, it really is that simple). Seems to me that Band-Maid have attracted a fantastic fandom of rock-lovers who have heard it all before and like me became jaded with the scene and the egos, only to re-discover that passion and then some with these five magical maids.

I could not do a reaction and say only “ it’s great or I like it “ to react ( in my opinion ) you need at least a repertoire of music behind you and a love of genres beyond what is fashionable! And I don’t mind being chastised a little because it’s mostly to put me in the right track so that it can be a good 10 minutes of escapism into music , for all concerned 😊👍 thank you my friend , that was a great thoughtful comment 👍

It is rare in Japan for a band to play instrumental songs. Rumor has it they do this so Saiki (singer) gets a pee break.
They describe their music as Hard Rock not metal. The maid costumes are to create "the gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing Demure Maids vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. The lead guitarist is the composer and the rhythm guitarist writes the lyrics, she also the founder of the band. They have total control of the creation and production of their music. Both showcase their excellence as musicians and singers.
I am going to give you 2 Nexts; "Freedom" and "Catharsis" acoustic from their Xmas live stream.
They have been touring GB since 2016 and they just announced tour in England in June, details TBD.

FROM JAPAN ◆ Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. BAND-MAID is a real hard rock band.
BAND-MAID is celebrating its 9th year of formation. BAND was formed by a girl who came to Tokyo from a local city Kumamoto of Japan to become a singer when she was about 19 years old. Five unique and talented girls gathered. The members have not changed, and they are continuing their efforts to improve their playing ability. They are constantly writing new songs and cool songs. Three new songs were released at the end of October.
BAND-MAID is a hard rock band, but it's a very diverse band. Listen to different types of songs.
1 Thrill : The first music video that saved them from dissolution. Classic rock 2014
2 Sense : The theme song of the anime "Platinum End". Dramatic, fast hard rock with a classic intro. 2021.10
3 Bubble : A tribute to the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, funky rock
4 Different : First anime opening song, new sense of high-speed rock. Anime is "Log Horizon 3rd season". 2020.12
5 Daydreaming : Beautiful power ballad. Saiki and Kobato vocals and Kanami's guitar solo are wonderful.
6 Dice : Rhythmic hard rock singing women's independence.
The girl blindfolded in the dark removes the blindfold at the end of the song and starts walking into the light.
7 about us : A gift for fans who cannot meet in a pandemic. Beautiful ballad. 2021.02
8 Freedom : A power rock that walks around the stage and conveys a smile.
The transition from drum solo to lead guitar is the best.
9 Manners : Declaration to create new hard rock while inheriting classic rock. Cool hard rock. Rock'n'Roll never die.
10 alone : The song they wrote, composed and released for the first time. Medium speed Hard Rock 2016
11 Secret My Lips & Secret Maiko Lips : Funky Hard Rock. A gift for fans of April Fool's Day .
12 Blooming : Vocals and chorus are impressive, and various types of music are fused.
13 RINNE : High-speed rhythmic heavy rock, inspired by the Japanese horror movie "RINNE : Reincarnation".
RINNE (Reincarnation) is also found in Eastern thought and Buddhist thought.
14 onset : Instrumental song for lead singer Saiki breaks, their great playing power and harmony.
15 Play : A song composed as an instrumental song, but Miku added lyrics as Saiki liked it. With different intros depending on the live.
16 Before Yesterday : Record of the first overseas performance, Sakura-Con in Seattle 2016. Melodic Rock with great lyrics.
17 Choose me : An insert song of the concert scene the Netflix movie KATE, they appeared as BAND MAID. Cool rock song.
18 Dragon Cries : The only song produced by Tony Visconti.
It's not their lyrics, but it sings about the future of human society and the earth. Great Heavy Classic Rock .
19 After Life : A homage to the maid cafe and band formation where Kobato worked. BAND-MAID Hard Rock .
20 Corallium : The song that Saiki wrote all the lyrics for the first time. Hip pop style dancing hard rock.
Added ★ Peace & Love ・ POGO : Founder Miku Kobato's solo project. Pigeon saves the world. Funky pop rock.

Hey Alan, welcome to the quickly growing club mate! I've only been listening to them since early 2020 but I promise, this is the best hard rock band on the planet right now, without exception. Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) are just an exceptional rhythm section, Kanami (lead guitar) is actually an alien in my estimation, she just understands music differently to the rest of us, absolute genius level music writer. Miku (rhythm guitar) is kinda the face and marketing brain of the band, as well as chief lyric writer. She's also a pigeon. No, I don't have time to explain, but yes, that's fact. Finally, Saiki (vocals) is the presence and understated power of the band. Crowd control by the bucket load and the absolute perfect voice for their music.
In terms of recommendations, as I'm sure everyone has already said, anything you fancy mate, it's all quality. However, my personal picks would be either Dice (official video), Blooming (official video) or Manners/Black Hole (official live video). That last one is probably the best example of the variation in their catalogue. Go nuts mate 👍🤟
P.s. If you do more Lovebites, do Edge Of The World (live at Zepp) and if you do more Nemophila, do Oiran (live at Naon Yaon 2021). There's a ton more Japanese bands that are worth a listen too, but one thing at a time 🤣

Interesting choice starting with an instrumental. Wait until you see them with their singer! I suggest 'Domination' LIVE next. BAND-MAID never fake it. They do play to backing tracks, but so have The Who and KISS. That's just to add other stuff so it sounds like the album more. There are only 5 of them and they can only do so much. And they have played without them when the airline lost the luggage. The show must go on. But they do it so well you'd hardly notice unless you hear a keyboard or something. And they don't consider themselves Metal. They consider themselves to be Hard Rock. But they have many influences Metal just being one of them.

  • @LostAgain1970
    @LostAgain1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I can promise you will spend a lot of time with them! They are simply superb. It's hard to put them into a genre. They are mainly hard rock but drift in different directions depending on the songs - you can hear prog-, punk-, pop-, heavy metal-, jazz-, blues- influences in their music. That impresses me most is that all their songs sound different to each other. And that's the thing with them. It's very difficult to choose a "the best song" because they are all good, and I mean that and you will discover it yourself. The classic "beginner song" is Domination. Be sure to select the live version. And here's another thing about this band - they really shine live. They love to play live. There you can see their creativity and amazing skills.
Welcome to BAND-MAID! You will not regret it.

"Next level of wizardry" is a description that I haven't heard so far, but certainly won't forget in a hurry. And if you'll allow me, I'd like to borrow it from time to time, because I think it describes the music of these outstanding ladies quite well. :) Band-Maid will take you to a 'Wonderland' of rock music that was long thought to be lost and which, coincidentally, would also be the title of a song by them to get to know the fifth of these ladies which is not present in this performance. But since you mentioned that you would also like to see more of the drummer, the song 'Freedom' cannot go unmentioned. :)

I love their crazy hard intro to Real Existence. Not to mention Akane's insane drum outro. That live video is truly epic and worth watching.
At the moment my weakness is the whole YOLO single - (YOLO, Unfair Game, Matchless GUM, YOLO (Instrumental)). It's truly amazingly good.

I'm really not sure if J-Metal even exists as terms in Japan. Band-Maid get lumped into the J-Metal bracket probably because so many of the bands who have become better known from Japan are metal bands, and while not a metal band, they are nearer that than a pop act. Sometimes it feels like people forget that rock can exist in the present day, and not just be a historic thing like telephone boxes, spandex, and the Rubick's Cube.
