Beautiful lake. I used to live a couple miles from it and go there all the time.

My father and I mounted a transom on his perception outlaw kayak. He ended up getting a Newport vessels kayak 36lb of thrust motor which weighs about 20lbs. From what little research I have done all trolling motors cap out around 5mph because of motor speed. The only reason you may need higher thrust is for a larger vessel and/or for current's drag.
The watersnake for kayaks is almost 1/4 the weight of the Newport vessels trolling motor (~6lbs vs 20lbs). I am thinking that would help out my back when putting in the water! Whenever I get around to putting a transom mount on my perception outlaw I will give my Dad a race. For steering we have a single stick that can be moved forward or backwards then we used a pipe hanger around the trolling motor shaft to hook to the stick. Simple and no hull mods nor strings all over the place.
The last thing I was proud of is we used school backpacks on clearance to hold our tackle and gear. The backpack can then be secured to the seat back. I had issue in the past pulling my kayak up a steep bank, and all my tackle boxes on deck slid out of the back of the kayak into the water.

Sounds like a good set up. I have another youtube video with a similar front mount and stick steer. It's the way to go if you don't have a pedal drive opening.

Can you make a video of how you made the mount for it? I have the same kayak and trolling motor I just wanna put it where the pedals go

I'll make a video of the mount. It's really simple. Just a piece of cutting board cut to shape with a long bolt cross ways that locks in the mounts. i.imgur.com/CcoXwCS.jpg

Im looking at the transom mount. Does it lock up at a horizontal position so it stays out of the water assuming you would have it on a transom mount attached to the kayak? Or is it free moving? I know it locks down at the 90 degree position when it’s in the water.

I'm assuming you are asking about my other Kayak with the motor on the front. If you leave the standard mounting bracket on it, you can lock it in the horizontal (up) position. On mine I have to get out of the kayak to do it, but sometimes I will motor up river to a shoal area and then raise the motor out of the way and use my paddle only. That way it's not constantly hanging up on rocks.

Awesome video! you but your catch through Academy Kayaks? They haven't delivered mine yet. Did you experience a delay? How long did it take to get yours?

I bought a 100 and a 110 about a year apart at Academy. Both were in stock at a local store.

How did you make the mount that locks into the scupper hole? I bought a cassette plug but I was just a tad too wide. I may try to hit it with the heat gun and see if i can get it to fit.
