You forgot to mention the transom mount where the sketch is! Can easily attach the transom mount and add a trolling motor! Takes the slow out of this kayak! Can't wait to get mine in the water.
This kayak was basically designed by Zoffinger here on youtube. He designed the the seat by tearing apart 3 seats and building it. The fact you can change out the skeg for a transom mount for a motor was his doing as well. I would love to have that seat and skeg on my catch 120.
Loving mine. It's so nice to be able to put the seat in the booster position or stand up altogether. I honestly prefer fishing standing and this kayak is super stable. No issues casting or setting the hook while standing. I love the open deck and how much room there is. I added a trolling motor to mine and it's been great. Was between this and an old town peddle driven one and I'm glad I went with pelican
Of all the reviews I've seen, this model is my favorite, mainly because of that seat option. I can't just sit in that lower position for any length of time. Great review.
I like your show and wanted to point out a solution that I use to over come the placement of the gear track. I place a longer gear track slider on top of the gear track. This allows me to slide the fishing pole holder or fish finder forward out of the way from paddling.
I just bought this kayak. I picked it over the Pescador and the Outlaw. I am more confident now that I made the right choice. I am really looking forward to getting mine on the water tomorrow.
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
I bought the Catch 130, first generation and loved it but sadly just sold it because I bought a crosstrek and wasn't comfortable loading a 90lb kayak on my back window roller, pelican makes great kayaks, the fact you can stand is huge, my back up lifetime Teton kayak I can not stand up, when I bass fish, I need to stand up to get certain areas to fish, you can attach a rope to the skeg to make it retractable as well so no issue there. Great review, will be buying this.
The rod holder is front is a nice touch. It's there to hold your rod when tying on a new lure or if you land a fish, you need both hands to unhook it. Better then laying your rod in the yak and taking a chance of it getting broken or even kicked overboard.
So I’ve bought the Catch Mode 110, especially after your review. The seat seems like one of the greatest things about it particularly the fold down booster seat. This is my first Kayak and I can just see myself modding future kayaks to work with the 110’s seat and interchanging them. Thanks for the review!
I’ve watched a lot of videos lately on fishing kayaks and had to laugh when you went full circle on that third rod holder because I knew what it was for, lol. The info on having that extension on the paddle because of the seat wouldn’t have entered my mind. Great insight. Had an old kayak years ago with a skirt and “went to sea and surf” but would like one now just to tour and do a little lake and brook fishing. This one, if I can find it in my area might be just the ticket. Thanks for the information. Good job.
I have some mobility issues so a SOT is the easiest kayak for me to use. My 1st Kayak was a Pelican Catch 100 that I added a removeable skeg on the bottom back, at 6' 2" Ihad plenty of leg room but the layout of the deck is different. My only issue with that kayak is it sometimes feels like I'm paddling a cork around in certain waters, calm flat water it's fine. I was able to stop using a cane after kayaking for a few months. Now I have a Vibe Shearwater 125 with the x-fin drive and I really like it much better. I just bout a 270cm Bending Branches Navigator paddle and it is the best paddle I've used to date, cost $340.00, carbon fiber shaft with red Adler and roasted Bass wood blades. I know a lot of people look down theirnoses at Pelican kayaks but the Catch 100 is a nice entry level fishing kayak.
Great video and exactly what I needed This is by far the best I have seen as a first time buyer fisher guy. This is what I will go and buy. What a unit for a combo for fishing sightseeing exercise and just plain simple with out all that extra stuff Thanks for this video and your great work.
Give the Moken 10v2 a try on a fishing river (where it belongs). I’ve been all over Oregon and Washington rivers in mine and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. For lakes try the 120. Edit: I started whitewater kayaking in 1984 and the Moken 10 impressed me to the point I’ve hit class 3 rapids no problem. Note: If you are a new kayaker Do Not! run whitewater in a fishing kayak. As a safety boater/ rescue medic I hate doing body recovery on rivers.
It only has 3 carry handles. No handle on the stern. 13:15 The seat is somewhat wobbly If you apply some force while paddling, it will move side to side. I had to modify the seat brackets so it is not moving. Otherwise it is an amazing kayak. Still working on mods
Great review, it really helped answer some questions I had about this kayak. So after 2 years, if you still have this kayak, would you change anything about this review now?
It’s for sure an upgrade, I’ve owned a few lifetimes. There wobbly right! lol! Get an ascend. Way way way better overall for what you’re looking for in a fishing kayak and similar on cost
Great review. Looking to buy my first kayak and it’s going to be a fishing kayak. I’m trying to decide between the Catch Mode 110 and the Perception Outlaw 11.5. They both seem like they’re very similar and would be good choices, but is there a reason I should chose one over the other. I can get them local and do plan on running a trolling motor at some point. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
Nice video demonstration 👍. Quick question did you test bonafide kayak or perception outlaw? And if so how dose it compare stability wise specifically for standing up??? Thx.
Rod holder in the front is also for when you have landed the fish. You can put your rod in there while unhooking and measuring and retying. Perfect placement if you use it for that as well... Agree on the tracks. Terrible placement. Just add on aftermarket where you want....
I don't mind the position of the gear track. I'm going to mount a 2.3 hp hinda outboard on this thing and won't paddle much tbh. Gotta get that fish finderrr lol
Having kids, a dog, a cooler or even just a collapsible live well bucket when fishing alone, I absolutely hate the front hatch storage of my 2022 model Catch 110. So I'm really happy to see them go back to the flat, open bow storage area up front. Hatch areas give you essentially 20-30" storage with a tiny 8" hole. Everything still needs to be in dry bag or backpack so it doesn't roll around. When not used the space is useless. Your dog can't sit up there. Toddler can't really sit up there. Cooler won't fit in there. My fishing license, towel, rope and toilet paper reside in it. Like he said they're rarely touched. I hate it and I'd advise you avoiding SOT kayaks that have them. As for this model I'd personally look into modifying the skeg. You could possibly drill a hole into the skeg, run a line through a series eyelets and up near the seat to retract it. Just make sure you use silicone and proper kayak rivets when adding any anchoring points to your kayak. For $750-800 this seems like a fair price for this rig. Wished I'd waited a year to buy mine now.
size-wise, how does it compare to the Old Towne Sportsman 136 ? Will I be missing much if I go with this instead of the OTS-136? does it have a live well
Hey bud, thank you so much for this VERY informative video! I'm torn between the OldTown Sportman (around $500 more) and the Pelican Catch 110. I must say, you're pulling me toward the Pelican! I'm no angler, but I enjoy quiet strolls on calm lakes.
If you're not really needing/wanting to stand much, or dont need many of the other features a fishing-oriented kayak is meant to offer, you may be better off with a more recreational-oriented kayak. Crescent CK1 is a good option for a little more, or there are many other options out there. You will definitely feel the drag on these wider yaks vs something more geared toward paddling
Thanks for the review, great as always, I just got this Kayak in the water for the first time And with my Wife we've tested it for a bit of time and I've notices that for both of us the Kayak had a tendency of leaning to the left, when you look straight at it while the person was on the kayak, it was not straight with the water level, there was a bot of current but I honestly do not know if that can play a role, am a complete beginner and would appreciate your input on this, could it be a missing internal foam on that side, a manufacturing defect, the surface current or us being total newbies ? :) Thanks for any feedback on this
Interesting... internal foam won't impact how it's trimmed, but my thought is that it could be one of two things... 1. The seat is sitting slightly to the left side for some reason. 2. The hull of the kayak is deformed somehow. How does the kayak look when sitting on a flat surface out of the water? Is it tilted to the left? Does the hull (bottom) of the kayak look uniform? This is a new one for me! You might want to send Pelican customer service a note, and see what they think. Perhaps this is something they've encountered before.
@@PaddleTV out of the water, everything looks fine, the hull looks uniform / symmetrical on both side, will give it a second try on the water this week end and will advise pelican support if necessary, will check on the chair position as well, I wish it will end up being me/us doing something wrong, just want to enjoy some time on the water this weekend honestly, Thanks for the feedback anyhow !

I'm sorry to hear you're not happy with the boat you got. The good news is that there's a strong 2nd hand market, and so it likely won't be too hard to sell your kayak and get a lighter model. Hope the fishing has been good this season!
Pelican makes some of the lightest fishing kayaks. Compare the weights across the board with rotomolded kayaks. Not the mention you are the one that chose that kayak. Hard to be mad at a company for making a kayak in a weight you dont like when you are the one that chose it. I dont even own a Pelican but come on. I’ve fished the pelican brand….not overly impressed…and I’m being polite. There is no question the build quality is so much more superior on an ascend than what these pelican are made out of. 👍

One downside? I’m not comfortable standing in it….although I’m a heavy set fifty year old too! Although I see plenty of younger people doing it!
Get an ascend friends! I’ve fished the pelican brand….not overly impressed…and I’m being polite. There is no question the build quality is so much more superior on an ascend than what these pelican are made out of. 👍
Look like it doesn't track well
Pelican is horrific for tracking.
It’s called a canoe. Way better than ANY kayak.
Ha! Unfortunately not true for everyone and in every situation, but I"m a huge fan of canoes too.
Yeah this pelican is a canoe kayak hybrid, an ascend brand is similar in this respect….but far better all around. Build quality not the least of these matters….
