That jacket is amazing. But, I have to say that your outfit is so perfect that I keep getting distracted by it. I’ve seen both pieces and loved them, but together they are especially wonderful. The joy that comes from shopping from a color palette is being able to make outfits from things you already have. People have asked me how I managed to put separates together that coordinated perfectly, even though I didn’t buy/make them even remotely at the same time. This is what happens when you choose your fabric and clothing based on a color set. Super bonus is that those colors always make you glow. Just perfect! 🩷

Yes! That has made it so easy to get dressed, pack for trips, and fill holes in my closet when things wear out. I know they will all go together!

I love your enthusiasm and story behind how you got it in your head and then executed it! We’ve all been there. Jacket is great! Good job ❤

That jacket is truly one of a kind! Reminds me of a very upscale (Johnny Was) type of jacket. When I first saw your fabric, I was really wondering how you could pull this off, but you did! The suede trim is terrific! My daughter is a thrifter and trash picker (in a good way). She comes across people moving out or cleaning out and gets the most fabulous stuff, designer handbags, quilts, clothing. She recently came across a whole Bo’s full of leather scraps and pieces(I got one piece from it). She donates to several charities and Austin has a craft shop where people donate scraps and fabric pieces.

Oh I would love to go along with her on those thrift trips and visit that craft shop!

@ Enjoy seeing you create unique items and exploring different fabrics. Appreciate your work. It started with the LN Pinaforte and your bold fabric choice. I’m surprised LN didn’t feature it.

I'm adding this to my inspiration board.... my wardrobe words are "Farm," "Fit" (as in they fit my body), and "Function."
I think this piece could be all of thise things!
I would do a very blue 💙 denim for the body pieces with a natural colored canvas for the hood and sleeves and red paisley bandana fabric for the details like the pocket.

I love your jacket and just had to share this with you…
Before Christmas I sent you a link to the TH-cam channel “Milan on Trend”…..
Well I saw a lady on a video wearing a full size coat in that exact fabric!! So your vision was exactly in line with some popular designer. Beautiful!!
    Good job!

When you use interesting material like this, would it be possible to insert a close up of some of the scraps so we can see texture, fraying, hand etc.
    This one is really inspiring

It IS one of the coolest things you have ever made! And You have made some pretty cool stuff over the years. You could put some of these on a rack at Anthropologie, and it would immediately fly off the rack for a high price too!

Good morning Whitney and sewing friends! It is 17º back home in Illinois this morning and snowing so I’m grateful to be a “snow bird” in S.C.! Whitney, you look amazing this morning - Your Farm Rio sweater has always been one of my favs! I think you’ve set the bar way high on this Adrey jacket my dear! Oh my stars! IMO that fabric was EXACTLY made to be sewn into that jacket! And your leather pieces…genius! Color is everything! Any chance you have enough of the leather scraps to create a drawstring for the hood? You may have to purchase metal ends for it and crimp them, but it would be unique! Bravo! 👏 ❤

Amazing jacket, I hadn’t bought anything from Gorgeous Fabrics, but found a wool blend ponte remnant, love that stuff, especially for now, it’s 8 degrees here in Iowa, my sewing is for warmth these days. Will add that store to my browsing ……….❤ thanks as ever, Whitney.

Whitney, your jacket is so cool! Beautiful details with the leather. I’m with you, the minute the Christmas decorations came down I started to sew. Winter seems like the only time I can really accomplish anything. I’m planning a capsule wardrobe for a trip to Italy 😊 in a few months.

Whitney, love your jacket! Would it work in cotton pique? I am mid Whole 30 and--skipping the long story--found 3 yards of a black background with bright white daisies from at least 15 years ago. My colors have gone lighter from when I bought it, but as a jacket with my summer brights or for my daughter (a wi ter/fall) . . . . Here's a newer sewist video idea, how to buy for a stash. I know that there is a list of basic for me solid fabrics in my best colors to be purchased asap. Just a thought. 🎉

I don't see why it wouldn't work in that fabric. Check the House of Hotard social media pages to see other people's jackets for inspiration. Thanks for the video idea!!
