Train with your gear, get familiar with the items you carry.
Having that plate carrier 16 pounds can put alot of weight on your shoulders plus the extra pounds if you carry a backpack with extra items.
Im no expert but I think by carrying a backpack to reduce weight you can take the back plate from the vest and put the 8 pound plate into the backpack.

You want the heavy weight attached to you so it doesn’t swing around and throw you off balance like a heavy backpack does.
