I run a Crye SPC with pistol plates. Chest rigs have zero protection and rifle plates are too heavy for me in order to be fast and mobile. I have another carrier with heavy rifle plates but that would be something for sitting in place, not to be mobile with. I think my setup is something most people overlook and I can't understand why because it is light like a chest rig, comfortable, and offers some ballistic protection.
Also: Make sure when you load out your gun belt and carrier you are able to sit in a vehicle, sit in a chair, bend over, etc. I thought I had my stuff dialed in until I couldn't bend over because my pistol pouches were digging into the front of my leg. I finally have my kit srtup so I can bend over, sit in a vehicle, and also carry a pack comfortably when also wearing my belt and carrier setups.

Interesting presentation on the Tacgear. I was active duty Navy 2003-2009 and did a couple of tours in Security and we were issued the old school Eagle Tactical Vest with magazine pouches and emergency flotation and extraction and repelling harness added to the vest by Parachute riggers since we were a Harbor Security unit with both Helos and Boats. We had allot of fun flying down the water in the 30ft boats during 4-6 foot seas at 30-45mphs.
I see where you are coming from with the newer stuff being lighter and easier to be worn but the older stuff was made of 1000 Cordura Nylon which is a bomb proof material that can take allot of abuse where much of the newer stuff today cannot withstand the same type of operational tempo. I still have good friends on active duty that are OICs, SCPOs, MCPOs and even a OPS officer. When the conversation comes to gear as it normally does since we are all into it the word that I keep hearing is that allot of the Super Light Stuff will not last a deployment and many of their guys have had to go back to stuff from Eagle or London Bridge made from proven materials. Salt Water and Salt Air will start to destroy materials fairly quickly so the life Span of a Plate Carrie or Chest Rig made from One of the Super Light Materials is less than that of a 1000 or 500 Cordura Nylon which can take more abuse.
The Eagle H-Harness that you used during your time in Active duty was Originally Issued back in 1999 and it was developed by London Bridge Trading company but Eagle Industries took the design and Improved it to make it more user friendly and able to carry more gear. The H-Harness does go back the Korea War Era but it was made of Canvas back then not 1000 denier Dupont Cordura. Just because something has been used for a while it does not mean that it is obsolete!
You showed your Eagle H-Harness as you had it when you were in the Teams I only counted one 200 round SAW Pouch right hand side and it looks like the one on the left was your IFAK but you did not have the small back attached to the back panel on your upper back and nothing on your sides or back part of the rig which normally the SAW Gunner is carrying anywhere between 1400 to 2000 rounds of ammo plus the other members of the Squad have 100rd belts in their kit as extra incase of a prolonged firefight did you just take off the other pouches?

Back in my day, my kit was a heavy OD green fragmentation vest, and LCE ,consisting of spagehtti straps, 4/ 30 rd. ammo pouches, a first aid pressure bandage pouch with a buttpack, and canteen pouch attached to a pistol belt. later on in time of service, I became a kevelar fragmentation vest, and a kevelar helmet that replaced the old heavy fragmentation vest, and steel pot.

I was a cav scout for 12 years. I'm real fond of my shellback rampage. It's my preferred for area recon, I run the condor cyclone with the skeletonized cummerbund for zone recon. It's light and cool but durable. I still run the old ciras vest for route recon. Maximum coverage and the classics never die. METT-TC dictates set up. Last but not least I keep a spartan armor DL with AR500 plates for weight vest workouts in my truck. Great training and there in case of active shooter. And yes it goes without saying. Look cool. Great video. Being a 11b infantry dude. I ran a slick Improved outer tactical vest (IOTV) 06-07 and 07-09 Iraq.
I had one chest rig I could run over my vest on patrols and room clearing stuff. And when I was on the 50, 240B or mk19 in the trucks. I’d put my kit in the turret to my left and my m4 to my right. It worked great. Lighter while in the turret all day and had access to my kit. We ran that as an SOP mostly because as a gunner. We NEVER left the turret unless we where relieved. Of course unless the wires from the mud hut villages where hanging us up. Then, to the hood I went. Lol.
Overall it just worked. I tried the whole putting all my crap on my body armor. It was terrible lol 😂. Just some sharing of my experiences while deployed.
Keep up the good work with the content. I enjoy the knowledge you share.

This is a perfectly valid way of looking at gear, but you definitely should do more than add extra stitching at stress points. Mesh padding, building out the shoulder straps, scaling it, etc. Gear is obvs majorly mission dependent, but you definitely want to really build it out with Rockywoods, a sewing machine, and a bottle of JD.

As civilians we need more than 6 + 1 mags as we don't have supply drops, and if the kit works for you that's all you need until you can get lighter kit but use what you have to say in the fight. Belt kit is easier on the back for the old and outdated.

I have that plate carrier it's pretty heavy, but I'm a big guy. The new stuff is great but expensive.

Does the Matbock kit setup have a tactical, quick draw comb holster with integrated mirror??? That's the deal breaker...lol

You have to try qd’s instead of lifting the Velcro placard up and down all the time. You won’t go back.
